HTC warranty sticker - Desire General

did anyone else receive an extra HTC warranty sticker in their box??? (the one that seals the box)
seems strange that it comes with one...
(now if i were a shady fella, i could use it repackage it down the road and sell it as new...)

Yeah I got one, HD2 came with one as well!

Nope, just a set of stickers with the bar codes on, no warranty sticker.

its standard practice from HTC on non branded/network phones. Was the same on my HD and HD2.

came in the t-mobile branded on i got as well. all phones used to have them.
It used to be that when you went to a shop and got a contract, you had to fill out all the paperwork and they would attach those stickers to the paperwork for the IMEI and phone number and stuff.
now that most of it's electronic in most places, they are generally not needed, but they still include them for those places still using hard copy and not doing it online.

as for the seal, yes you often get two. I got one in the t-mobile box cos t-mobile use their own....

Heh, glad I spotted this, it hadn't occured to me what that sticker was! Feeling daft right now

T-mobile didn't put one on mine, it was sealed just with the HTC Void sticker.

I didnt know what the VOID sticker was at the time until I started messing with it and messed the sticker up. Now I am sending the phone in for repair but need that sticker. I have US TMobile and I didn't get an extra sticker but I am willing to pay for one if anyone could sell me one of theirs I would greatly appreciate it.

Why do you need it? You don't if you're sending it in for repair - only if you're going to try sell the phone off as new

HTC Repair Service / RMA process

There are many threads out there that talk about how awful HTC repair service is. Here's my story:
Bought a Touch Pro2 phone off of eBay. The phone was in decent working condition, but there were some things here and there. There were a few scratches on the screen, dings on the housing, and the when closed, the screen would overlap the keyboard by a mm or so. Otherwise, no problems. I had a free day at work, so I thought, lets try to see what the warranty process is on the phone. It can't be that old. So I called T-Mobile first. No luck. Since I hadn't purchased the phone through them, I don't get warranty through them. Makes sense. I then called HTC. They put in the serial number, and well... The phone was in its last 3 weeks of the 15 month warranty. So Saturday morning, I packed the phone off, and sent it to the repair center via Priority Mail.
The phone got to the repair center on Tuesday. I then started watching my email for a repair quote, or estimate, or whatever. Nothing. That's when I started reading the horror stories. I called HTC service to find out what the status of the phone was on Thursday. The phone was already on its way back! On the phone, I got
- A new keyboard
- New function / home keys
- AND a new touch / digitizer screen!!!
I got the phone in my hands on Friday, less than a week since I had mailed it. Ok.. so what company on earth can claim to have better service than this? All for no cost to me!! Unbelievable!! Way to go HTC! You've made me into a loyal customer!
they do warranty's because of scratch casings? I bought one of ebay and the casing is scratched not sure yet has it hasn't arrived ill call and check when it arrives btw did u habe to pay to ship it? and where did you ship it to?

I don't think they warranty repair scratched casings. In my case, the keyboard was a little messed up. So that was the original repair. When they go through the phone, they either repair things they see as wrong, or they email/call you with a quote to tell you the cost for fixing things not under warranty. In my case, they repaired everything!
You can call 1-888-617-1113 to check whether the phone is under warranty. You ship it to Texas on your own money. They take your credit card number to charge you a "triage" fee in case you don't want repairs and want the phone back. This is up to $39. In my case, like I said, I paid for outbound shipping, but got the repairs and return shipping for free. YMMV.

HTC Not honoring Warranty

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with HTC not honoring their warranty.
My Phone developed a fault a few months ago, where it would get hot and just reboot if it was plugged in. I eventually got round to sending it off and after 2 weeks it came back to the Vodafone shop with a message saying it was not repaired as it had been damaged. So I call the vodafone repair centre for more info and they told me that HTC had indicated that it had been water damaged, this really suprised me as the guys at the Vodafone store had checked the two visible tabs before they sent it out and the guys at Vodafone repair center had also checked for accidental damage before sending it to HTC and found nothing.
Since the phone has come back it is now rebooting all the time not just when charging and HTC won't do a thing the phone has never been in contact with water this is ridiculous the HTC warranty appears to be worth nothing.
HTC can tell if it's been user damaged in most cases, and if so, that doesn't qualify for warranty. Voda has no where near the same tools or understanding of the device. HTC can also call one of the chip manufacturers engineers in to ascertain failures for a second opinion.

But it hasnt been water damaged, and if it had how could water have got into the internals without passing one of the two external indicators.
I had this exact fault on my phone too. I just called up my provider (Virgin Mobile) and they swapped it, no questions, no inspections, just a direct swap. It's definitely not a water-related issue, the motherboard itself is at fault. You only have to search the issue in Google to find many others with the same problem.
Yep I am aware of this being a very common issue, and it would appear that most other networks are just replacing immediately due to it being such a common fault, not only have Vodafone not done this they are offering me the "REALLY GOOD DEAL" of paying backdated phone insurance of £95 to get a replacement desire, sorry but as this issue is so common and if it was happen again, I dont want to have to pay cough up another chunk of cash, so if I have to pay out I think I should be able to get a different handset.
I'm having the exact problem, and it's specifically HTC AMERICA that is the problem. They are like a rogue nation, not even respecting their corporations own customer legal agreements.
Please see my thread here to read my conversation excerpt with Customer Service and tell me if it sounds anything like the kind of treatment you got. If so, we need to start a list, and I promise you, I am going to swing hard.
I have history. Long story but MacWorld, Wired, others covered it: I organized about 20 nations to pressure Apple back when they had their G4 desktop MDD which made excessive noise to issue replacement power supply units to every owner across the world, for free -- and it was the first time ever in the history of Apple where they issued a product replacement without their being a formal recall. And all of this without one lawyer or lawsuit. I'm just saying....
But it took cooperation, and complete documentation, and there was no way they could win. And I am tired of putting up with this bull**** from HTC AMERICA. They are pond scum who do nothing. HTC China are the brains and design geniuses who built and maintain an amazing company. HTC AMERICA is out to KILL IT.

I did... or thought I did. And made an unfortunate mistake. My last 2 phones I bought insurance through great company called "Square Trade"... Had a warranty problem with -- of all people -- HTC America -- on a 2 week old HTC Hero, and, long story short, Square Trade paid out fully in 48 hours, after a month of hassles with HTC America. (They require you go thru warranty first)
I bought it for the HTC DESIRE, but missed the fine print.... They only cover phones bought in USA... and this was bought from UK vendor... so, even though they accepted the payment, I submitted the proof of purchase, etc, they informed me when I went to try to file insurance claim here "hmm, says you bought this frm UK vendor" "yes i did"
"insurance is void"
So, for that I am technically at fault, but when i went back and checked, it was pretty small print -- and what threw me was, the HTC HERO which was covered by them and paid out by them, was also bought from UK, but it was bought via a USA vendor who imported it... hah hah. So, in any case, it just didn't occur to me that there was a restriction, but i was wrong.
Having said all that, I'm curious:
I always find it odd when people reply as you did. Do you really find that helpful when you are on the receiving end of something equivalent to:
WELL YOU'RE SCREWED THIS TIME, YOU SHOULDA DONE THIS IDIOT.
??
I for one never find it helpful. But, uh, thanks for your typing time.

Does anyone have insurance on their phone?

I was wondering if anyone had insurance through their carrier? Telekom here in Germany offers it for 100 euros out right and you pay 10 percent of what the phone is worth.. I passed on it but after hearing people having some issues I was wondering if I should go back to the store and sign up for it. I suppose I could always use the nexus s I have laying around incase something happens to my x

If there a difference between warranty and insurance? Because I heard if you root the phone you will lose the warranty... Anyway I'm from Canada and when I search on ebay.com and amazon.com I'm only seeing int version "no warranty" so I have to choice to buy it with no warranty for 550$ or to buy it from amazon.co.uk for 700$ with a warranty but I don't really see the point since I want to root my phone... I'm a bit worried if the issues start after the 30 day return delay T_T
Well the insurance is directly from the phone carrier and you deal solely through them plus I think they cover accidentally damage. The warranty through HTC would just cover things that might become faulty?

I just bought a 7£ silicone case to take all the psychical damage, had the same case for my desire and it worked just perfect! For hardware damage I'm counting on my insurance company is gonna pay
I have phone insurance with my Bank account in the UK, much cheaper.
It's worth getting insurance. Especially if you root. Anything goes wrong you "had it stolen".

Over here in Australia insurance payments generally add up to about half the cost the phone (sometimes even more, depending on the phone and when you purchase it). So I find it a waste of money. Besides, in my over 12+ years of using phones I haven’t had any serious mishaps (hope it stays that way).

What kind of issues are you referring to ? All hardware faults (display issues, overheating, WiFi issues etc.) should already be covered under warranty. Insurance is needed if you want protection against theft, lost or accidents. However, if the phone breaks due to poor build quality (e.g: the shell or the display cracking due to bad design, buttons stop responding etc..) then claiming warranty will be hard because its is difficult to prove , in that case insurance could come in handy.
if im not mistaken insurance covers your phone for anything...
even if u hard-bricked it as its independent of htc's warrenty
and there is no need for the phone is stolen blahblahblah
bank account insurance sucks ****, the best insurance is with your carrier and the only 2 carriers that I know provide good insurance is Vodafone and O2 both give you replacement if you accidence damage your phone, drop it, lost or stolen
Yes. I have.

they offered it to me indeed, I had it on my last phone, but now I just bought a case to protect it from damage and skipped on the insurance.
I didnt think i would need it with my HTC Desire and passed but on my One X, this is too great of an investment to not take out insurance.

Suspicious HTC One X

Hi, everyone. I just received my international version HTC One X today from new egg. At first i was thrilled(it got here two days earlier than it was supposed to), but as soon as i opened the box i started getting a bad feeling... This thing looks used and at $579 dollars i think it really should be in new condition. Its possible its new but i really, really doubt it. The first thing i noticed was how filthy the HTC boxing was. It was just covered with grime, the two halves looked like they'd be crudely forced back together and the paper wrap around it was just sloppy loose and also just covered in filth. I was too worried at this point though i was a little disappointed at HTC's packing abilities. Then i got that open and it just got worse and worse. The phone was just filthy two with like gray dust/dirt. It looked like someone had dropped it in an ash tray or somethingAnd the protective plastic on the screen had like sand/dirt under it like itd been pealed off and put back on it was also just about falling off. All the hardware(accessories) was sealed in plastic bags at least and they didn't appear used but the rest of the situation has me feeling very uneasy. There's also some minor scuffs on the back of the phone that i didn't notice until i cleaned all the grime off it, so i'm just not sure what to do. Advice anybody? Is this normal for international phones and its just neglect on HTC's part or does this sound like a return to you(thats what im thinking)? If you guys want pictures i can post them. Right now i'm thinking i'm going to have to email new egg and request either a partial refund of a swap for one that's actually new... but i thought it best to make sure im not imagining things and make a fool of myself, so please voice your opions and or indulge me in any wisdom/advice you guys might have to offer Thanks...
I would definitely ask for a replacement. if you are paying the fullprice they might aswell hand you a new one and not a half assed crapply wrapped bull****.
That's what i'm thinking... there was also a warranty card in the box but it wasn't from HTC or new egg. It was some place called brainstorm, and i've got to say i find that a bit odd considering its an HTC phone, that i bout directly from new egg(it wasn't drop shipped or sold by a different seller or anything like that), so that leaves me with, um who the heck is this brainstorm out fit and why do they have a 30 day warranty card in my HTC phone? Also there are some stickers inside the box with imei numbers on them that say they are to be attached to the phone to claim service or repair... and there's four of them. I'm not sure if that's normal or not but the whole deal makes me leery.
Just get it replaced under distance selling regs, worry finished!

How does that work? I'm assuming your abbreviating distant selling regulations. I've never heard of that before... Sorry about my noobishness but this is the first international phone I've ever bout.
Can you get a refund?
Just email them and explain the situation and that you want a new replacement asap, do the imei numbers match on phone & box?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
I'm going to try to get something out of them. I really don't want to have to ship this thing back as i needed the new phone. My other died and i'll be without a phone if i have to send it back. I would probably be alright with a partial refund as the damage is all ascetic and it doesn't appear there's anything physically wrong with it however i don't think there's any way i should have to pay full price for something used especially with the condition it came in. Do you guys think i should try and get a full refund along with getting to keep the device or is that asking too much? Maybe i should just try for a partial refund or possibly have them send me another one and then ill send back the apparently used one when i get the new one?
And ill have to look on the phone itself but the imei number on those stickers matches the serial number on the paper wrap around the box. There isn't any number or printing on the box itself. It just matte white(all be it very dirty) shaped card board, feels almost like the stuff Mc Donalds makes there drink holders out of only white.haha
Well, i just got done live chatting with a customer service rep from new egg. After i explained everything the most they would give me was a $20 new egg gift certificate that i'm required to use within the next 90 days if i want it. They wouldn't even give me the 15% refund which is what they charge for restocking. They swore there was no way it could be used as they are an as i quote, "Strict re-seller." They also said new egg doesn't open any of the phones it sells. I'm hoping they'll send me an email copy of my live chat so i can post it. I intended to print it for my records but as soon as the rep disconnected the window closed and i wasn't allowed to print off the conversation. I've yet to get the gift card they said they'd email me either but i guess i'll give it some time before i bother trying to go through the process again. They said it was either that card or i could ship it back to them and they'd replace but i wasn't about to do that as i need the phone so $20 dollars is all i get. I just hope this thing doesn't have problems later on in life... Oh well, guess i'll see how it goes.
Here's a helpful hint. Always buy your phone from an authorized reseller. NewEgg and Amazon in the U.S. aren't authorized resellers. The Teg3 One X isn't meant to be sold in the U.S. and is considered a grey market phone meaning no one is authorized to sell it in the U.S.
Negri and Expansys get their phones from authorized resellers and their authorized affiliates abroad. They also allow you to send the phone to them any time during the warranty period and they'll handle getting it repaired for you; even if they have to send it overseas.
I always buy my international devices in the UK from an authorized reseller that's based there. That means it's not a grey market product; it was purchased in its country of intended sale. There can never be an issue with the warranty that way.
Samsung's really tough with grey market devices and provides no warranty for any device purchased outside its country of intended sale. HTC seems more liberal but it's not (to me) worth taking a chance if they ever decide not to be.
If you're in the U.S. you can buy a One X from Handtec and have it delivered overnight from the UK for $589. The only downside of getting a phone from the UK is you have to pay return shipping if it needs to be exchanged. But you'll never have warranty issues and you'll know you'll be getting a UK device. Your device could be from Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, or South Africa if you buy it grey market. It can even be a carrier-branded phone that's had its SIM unlocked. No big deal if you're going to flash another ROM on it but it could be a big deal for updates, installed features, and included languages if you don’t. And with HTC now voiding the warranty of phones unlocked on HTCDev that adds a whole new dimension to getting a grey market phone repaired.
Just something to think about.
Please say you paid with credit card. If so contact the credit card company, they will refund your money send it back and get a new one someplace else.

Reading your experience it's weird the phone is filthy with dust while the other parts are not, I would say the box has been opened.
Just a friendly advise, use your common sense and ask they refund your money as you don't accept it in this condition, it's your right.
To my opinion it's is simple as that, no need to ask other people's opinion.

I did pay with a credit card but its not worth it to send it back as of now and to get a new one from somewhere else. They offered to do a return for refund(im guessing they'd stick me with a 15% restock fee), but for one thing i don't have another phone so i'll be without a phone then while waiting for the next one, and two as far as i can tell there's nothing wrong with it physically, it was just very poorly packaged and had some very minor scuffs on the back cover. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it originated in the UK. Based on the language options. They have 7 different English options with none of them being European. They're like Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Right now i have it set on English (Singapore). Not sure how this'll be a problem as i can't see any differences in the English. However the update deal is a little bit of a concern, that i wasn't aware of. I wasn't planning on installing a custom rom or anything. I was just going to stick with the stock rom and then use a different launcher as well as locker. Am i going to have trouble getting updates for this thing now, or what am i in for?
That's what my box looks like its just a bit more dirty. They're not sealed in plastic or anything so i guess i can see how there could be some dust in there but still. A computer chassis/case i ordered from them once was dirty like that too but just on the outside of the box as it was sealed and no big deal then. on the phone though I did request a partial refund(all i wanted was the 15% they would charge for restocking if it was returned and then id just keep it) but they said they could only give me a $20 gift card as a courtesy as they claim none of their phones have been opened. If it has a problem in the first 15 days i can return to new egg for a refund without a restocking fee, and if it has a problem in the next 30 days i can return it for a replacement without a restocking fee, but if i send it back just because i'm not "satisfied" with it it looks like they'll pin me with that 15% restocking fee.
That sounds like a AT&T version rather then European.
So I'm pretty sure you will have problems if you like to flash EU roms.

All my international devices were received open. Handtec and Clove check their units for defects before they ship overseas. Also, U.S. Customs typically opens electronic devices with high-declared values. Any devices purchased from a carrier in the U.S. are typically received opened too as they either put the SIM in the box or in the phone itself. As for CPW, that's a UK thing.

Hows that possible? forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't the ATT version have the S4 in it instead of the Tegra 3? Or is ATT using the international versions out of the states? And if thats the case shouldnt there be ATT branding on the phone?
I go into specs, and it says it has the Tegra 3 and it also has the 32gb of storage it should have. There is no sign off ATT branding or bloatware anywhere on the device. I would think if it were ATT it'd have some indication of that such as flashing the ATT logo or something during boot up. I could be wrong but that's just my reasoning. The only branding on it is the HTC logo.
Forgive me, my fault. It's because you mentioned non European countries.

Anyone use Uh Oh yet?

Did the replacement phone look brand new or was it refurbished? I dropped my phone today and the metal housing is all scratched and dented. The screen has some scratches but is not too bad that I need to replace it but I'm so OCD about my phones.
I got a brand new phone with the charger in retail packaging just like the original. Of course, HTC can repackage a refurbished phone into new retail packaging and I can't tell but I think it would be more time consuming for them, compared to picking a new phone and shipping it.
very frustrating...HTC won't send me a new phone first even though they advertise it.
They want me to mail my phone back first and wait for who knows long. This is false advertising!
What the heck?? It's clearly on their website! "Get a replacement next business day before you send us back your damaged phone. Requires a $599 credit card hold until HTC receives damaged phone." I'd keep calling or chatting until you get someone who knows what they're talking about.

I used Uh-Oh 11 days after receiving mine back in May. Cancel your service order and call back in, file an Uh-Oh claim. They are processed differently and it sounds like yours got started as a standard service claim.
With an Uh-Oh claim you will have 2 options depending on stock on hand: advanced replacement with the $599 CC hold (can ONLY be shipped to your CC billing address) or on site swap where you send in your phone and they send you a replacement within 2 business days.
In both cases you should get a new replacement.
The caveot is how you initiate the service claim. You must start out expressly saying its an Uh-Oh claim.
The reps are not the most knowledgeable people and can only operate within the options in the system. Trying to bully, intimidate or threaten your way around their limitations is pointless and will not net you any gain.
It is best to cancel your claim, call back in (not online chat, actually speak to them) refile your claim.

Dang! So they just replaced the screen? My screen cracked and I'm sending it as soon as I get my other phone for the meantime. So I should expect my same phone and not another one? How long did it take? Thanks in advance for answering my questions lol

Little over 2 weeks. They quoted 7-10 business days
Has anyone replaced their phone through Uh-Oh and requested a different color than the one originally bought? I wonder if this is possible.
Just took advantage of Uh-oh protection here too. Sent in my phone on a Thursday, got it back the following Tuesday. Got a new phone (idk, it could be refurbished for all I know). All I know is that it is not the same phone... But I am glad because I am selling it in this case haha. Overall, great service!
Has anyone that used Uh Oh unlocked with HTCDEV? Or do most use Sunshine to avoid the warranty snafu's? I'm still trying to figure out what all I'll lose from the Warranty if I HTCDEV unlock.

Unlocking through HTCDev is covered in Uh-Oh. You would have to read the policies for using non-oem software to unlock but I don't see why using sunshine would be a problem if they accept water damaged phones that no longer work. But in terms of WARRANTY, sunshine is not covered whereas HTCDev unlock is.
If you have the opportunity to unlock through HTC, I don't why it would make sense paying for Sunshine when you can get the same thing from the oem for free with the warranty intact, saving hundreds on buying another phone.
