Strange problem involving power button, screen and soft rest

Ok, this is a slightly weird but VERY annoying issue..
Today I stopped being able to turn my TP2 on from standby.
What actually happens is when I push the power button, the phone activates, but the screen remains blank.
Pushing the volume buttons turns it up and down ( I can hear the tones)
Hang up and other buttons work ok.
The soft rest button does nothing.
Pulling out the battery restarts the phone, and the screen then works fine. Power button can then be used to turn the screen off, but will not turn it back on again
So long as I then keep the phone awake, all is well, as soon as it sleeps, I am back to the same situation.
Problem number 3 is that the Charging LED is no longer lighting up, but the phone is charging as normal.
I have hard reset the phone, and also flashed the latest WWE ROM from HTC, to no effect.
Charging LED is off even when the phone is shut down.

OMG, i am having the EXACT same issue. powerbutton will sleep phone but not initiate the screen to turn back on, openeing keyboard lights up the keys, closing lights up the buttons under the screen. Ive also hard reset etc.
Any help!?!?
I'm gonna try task29 and see what happens, could that be what caused it? Thats the only new thing ive donw

hmm, also noticed that when booting android, i get an error message: Something used micropkit_lcd_ctrl. This function should no longer be used.
Since the problem deals with the screen/sleep could this be a hint?
BTW: task29 doesnt help at all =[ cant anyone help?

Are you using Windows Mobile or Android?
Hard reset and see if the problem goes away.

running windows mobile and android. Cant boot into android because I receive that error message previously stated... Hard reseting doesnt help =[

Running WM, and I've done 2 hard resets and a ROM flash.
Interestingly enough, the last thing I did before having problems was to run up and play with the latest version of Android, using the cab install version.
Is there some code for that (perhaps used for the power button to intercept the press) that could be remaining in rom after the reset???

this pretty much solves it - mines' also working now

Note: Flashing hard spl seems to have fixed mine too!

Hmm... could this HSPL also cause a problem with not connecting the device to PC? (device is not reckognized)

Hey there, did you just reflash Hard SPL and evertything was fine? or did you hard reset and reflash your ROM also after reinstalling Hard SPL?

Well i tried flashing the ROM, and hard rest but that did NOT work
Hard SPL on top of those did, someone else will have to test JUST using Hard SPL to fix the problem

I just booted up into my current rom(firestorm) and didnt let it sleep, plugged it in and flashed hard-spl, and it works now!! So dont hard-reset, just flash over your current rom.

Just out of interest (as I'm always updating and playing with android) which version screwed with the phone?
Although it seems to be resolved, I'd rather not have to go though the bother of re-installing HSPL

I was using the cab install version
Project Android 031710v2.cab
Just to note further, before using it I had not installed Hard SPL, nor had I flashed my TP2 to any official ROMS

Well I've been in a situation where an app has crashed and no buttons worked including power. I had to remove battery but I'm sure this would have worked. You may need it one day. So be grateful.

Unfortunately, this completely skips the "silent boot" app on relaunch.

I still reboot my device once a day....WM bad habit

this is NOT a factory reset? just a reboot? is that correct? could the users having the "phone won't shut down" issue just use this instead to reboot cleanly?

It's not a factory reset or hard reset. The key combination just does a soft reset. Give it a try; it won't hurt.

when i first got my hands on the desire after installing and deinstalling apps I got the error about a lack of space available when trying to install apps even though i only had 3/4 apps installed, so i got rid of the task manager and now i just reboot the phone after installing or deinstalling apps or if i have been on youtube or doing a lot of browsing, it seem to keep the phone running smoothly and havn't seen the out of memory error
ive not looked in to this so it is just a presumption, the phone runs a clean up on shut down and this is the reason why the phone seems to hang when shutting down as it is deleting unused files, I noticed that when you shutdown (power off the phone) after heavy use it would always take a lot longer shut down the first time, if you then done a power down for a second time shut down was quite quick.
or maybe im talking s********
ive tried the key combo and it seems like a forced reset rather than a reboot? anyone care to comment?

I know what you're talking about. That's what I thought too (ie, the phone does a clean-up at shutdown). But then why doesn't this happen on the HTC Legend? I have both devices and the Legend has no issues shutting down regardless of up-time.
Anyway, I've noticed that rebooting the phone will often recover chunks of internal memory. Presumably it's just freeing some from some sort of cache. I've not noticed whether it behaves the same if I reset via the key combination versus shutdown-and-then-power on.

I'm glad I found this out, When my phone gets to baggy to access a app killer or even to get the power off menu I use this, So much faster than removing silicon case then back then battery and then having to stick it all back together

Is there an app for XDAndroid that will allow the phone to reboot completely, into WinMo? Save a little time?

Soft reset not fast enough for ya?
You can do the whole power off routine, but I assume that's what you mean by 'save a little time' - is that is too time consuming, and actually powers off the device.
I'm sure there's a widget or some such thing...

I use Quick Boot (you can download it from the market) then add the reboot widget to your home screen, one tap and you're set.

Don't you need root for that? I would obviously assume XDAndroid has root, but idk enough about android haha

There's no soft reset in XDAndroid. Are you thinking of Neopeek, where reset is available next to power off by holding down the power button?
But back on point, I was also using Quick Boot for a while, but it reboots so fast, I'm very suspicious of it. I get enough random SD card errors creating FOUND.01 or whatever folders without using reboots that presumably aren't following the shutdown routine.

Every phone has a soft reset. There's a little pin you press with the stylus that's under the battery cover... Are you not familiar with hard/soft resets..?

Well...actually, if I hold down the end key, it will power down, go silent, blah blah blah. It's a little screen that pops up and shutdown is an option, so it's not just Neopeek's version that can do this. As far as reboot the phone, you are correct that there is no stock way to do this, but as pointed out earlier in this thread there is the app on the market with a reset widget. Otherwise, you could always learn to alter the code and make this option available yourself. That would be cool. I would appreciate it

[Q] My home button has stopped working completely (help!)

When I plugged out the charger this morning and turned off the wifi my phone suddenly crashed and started to reboot. I put the phone in my pocket and didn't think much about it seeing as this is a very common problem for a lot of people and it usually happens to me once or twice a week.
One hour or so later I pick up the phone to check something on the web and then press the home button to get me back to the home screen. Nothing happens. I press it again. Nothing happens. I have to then press the back button a bunch of times in order to get back to the homescreen...
After testing this a bit more I realize that this behavior doesn't go away, it's permanent, the button just doesn't work any more, which in itself is odd for a software button... Not only that but my lockscreen is gone as well even though it's set to "drag" in the settings and the "minimalistic text" widget on my homescreen sometimes have trouble loading up...
Rebooting the phone does not help.
Does anyone know how to fix this or even know why this has happened?
(ps. the phone is a swedish yakjuxw)

it may be static on your screen pull out your battery an presst the power button repeatedly for about 30 secconds insert ther battery anr seenif it works. Report back to me.
Edit.. also if your in aokp see what happens when you re-arange the soft key to a differant place and see if it works.

I pulled out the battery and mashed the powerbutton for about a minute, but the problem is still there.

Nope, the device is stock.

I saw a dutch user on a dutch forum with the same issue. a Factory reset solved this for him... Not sure what caused it and it's a bummer if it happens to you but at least it worked for him.

Try using an app that puts your device in landscape mode and see if it works then ans when you switch back to portrait.

Thanks for the replies, but I did a factory reset and it solved the problem.

Had a similar issue when i just got the phone, systemui kept crashing and when i'd reboot none of the soft keys worked - had to wipe and factory reset as well!

Damn. This happened to me too, just spent forever getting stuff on my phone.

Black Bar Screen Error

So, I have had my M8 since around May and it's been perfectly fine up until July/August when I have two problems;
1. The first is that occasionally a black bar pops up on the phone and says hold the volume up and power button for 10 seconds to restart. I don't know why this keeps happening.
2. Secondly, when I'm using apps like Whatsapp and swyping on the keyboard, it'll just stop typing/go into the contacts profile/do other things with the phone when all I want to do is type.
Any ideas as to why? I asked HTC Support and they just said to clear the cache. I did that but to no avail.

Yes, am using stock. Always have been. Tried a soft reset and ever a hard reset.

Nobody knows why this happens?

I was going to say maybe its a malfunction of the power button. But actually, if you hold the power button, the Phone Options (Power off, Airplane mode, Restart) dialogue appears first, and the Reset countdown appears a few seconds after that.
If this isn't happening for you, I suspect a software error or some sort.

Take no offence please, but 150 posts, and you don't know what a recovery is? Are you rooted? Do you have TWRP or CWM installed?

No, I know what recovery is, but how would that help exactly. I mean, I've already done factory reset, cleared cache, done all that customer support has told me to do besides give the phone in for repairs.

Maybe a screen shot would help.

Like you know when you change the volume on your phone a black bar pops up? A bar like that pops up and says the phone will restart in ten seconds and then I just press the volume up button and it dissapears.
Like when you press the volume up + power button together, the bar that pops up? That comes automatically and often. I have no idea why.

I have no idea. It's very strange. Have you tried installing a different ROM?
Also, are you running a custom kernel perhaps?

Yes, I tried installing a different ROM. Still happens. I'm running stock sense. What comes with the phone. I just recently did the hard reset.
