Insurance deals? - Desire General

I've been looking around for a good insurance deal for my desire. I want to pay for it annually, not monthly I found this deal with insureandgo it's £26.01 for the year it covers me for:
accidental damage, theft and Accessory cover of £50 which is all i need.
i wanted to know if this deal is any good and has anyone found a better deal ?
Link: http://gadget.insureandgo.com/
Thanks

Ive been looking around for insurance too and that seems better than anyhting I can find. Although I'd go for the £42 version just to be safe

What about ringing up your home insurance & asking them how much to have it added?

That is the insurance I purchased, went for the platinum package at about 40 quid as it seems to be the best price and you get all the cover you need.

Im covered by my home insurance, but my bank account also has mobile phone (inc Iphones, PDAs) cover with no excess.

I use my bank phone insurance and have a third party insurance for airtime abuse which costs me £2.49 a month, because I'm a sucker for believing I need things like that.
My bank insurance is excellent though, and considering it's included in what I pay for all my other extras with my account, a very good option.

Be carefull whitch chargers you buy

I bought a car cahrger that said it worked for HTC evo on Amazon.com and it worked fine. But I bought a wall charger, said it worked for evo but it didn't charge it, it had an led light said it was on but didn't work. Then I decided to buy a difernt one that didn't work either. So I had to come up with some more cash and drive to bestbuy and told them I will buy it if it charges my phone right so they took it out of the box and worked fine. So if you buy online do your research first.

cool story bro
Never buy anything more expensive than 20 bucks at Besy buy... Worst customer service/return policy/warranty service EVER. i wont buy there again even with deceptively low prices... spent too much in gas going back and forth , time in argueing with them, and not having my laptop, and didnt get anything out of it except a wiped hard drive, lost charger, accessories, restore CD's etc... AND IT WAS A MOTHERBOARD PROBLEM!!! the idiots wiped the OS because it was blue-screening -.-... so ya... avoid bestbuy if you can.
As for chargers, i did basically the same thing... I can charge it with the wall charger IF I turn off wifi and everything else, and make sure that nothing is running but it is really slow.. the car charger will fully charge it in <30 minutes.
when I buy a brand new product WITH WARRANTY I expect to get a free repair/replacement if the product is faulty. thats kinda how a warranty works. I am slightly put off that you chose to take my criticism of Best Buy personally. Maybe you are one of the best workers that Best Buy employs; That still doesn't change the fact that in this area at least (and I've heard similar stories from many MANY people, not just in this area) at this store that I went to, the employees, managers, Geek Squad staff, etc. were all either disrespectful, aloof, or incompetent. Its my choice to deal with my experience with BB and even to share it with others. Go flame war somewhere else. its really immature.

Do they sell anything for less than $20?
Well, besides the candy bars at the front.
A $30.00 charger at Best Buy costs $5.00 on Amazon and $10.00 in Walmart. There is no best buy at Best Buy. Everything is jacked up enormously. nd the best buy employee on this form thats mother ****ing their customers, probably not going to help.
I did not by any stretch plan on turning this thread into a "LETS FLAME BEST BUY" thread... If we want that, then have a Mod rename it and throw it into an off-topic thread. I did notice however that the rude BB employee only has one post and found that amusing...
which is worse? best buy or radioshack?
The title should be changed to "be careful which thread you open up." Garbage.
Just make sure you look at the amperage rating. If it's low (less than 750ma) you will probably not get a decent charge out of it, regardless of the light coming on. I always try to get 2 amp chargers.
BTW not all Best Buy employees are tools, but the bad ones sometimes make me feel ashamed for working here.
Everyone needs to stop hating on Best Buy.
I worked at Radioshack for like..3 months, and it was the worst experience for me. Customers *****ing because i told them not to buy something, and it doesn't work how they want it to. They make their money off of accessories to phones, you can think of it like the movies. Theaters don't make any money off of the tickets, they make money off concessions..which is why they're jacked up. This is why i do all my shopping online. I just bought a ipod shuffle cord off ebay for 3$ shipped, or i can go to walmart and pay 20$ for the same exact thing. You have more mouths to feed when running a store in real life than you do online.

Exactly why I posted here giving my two cents on Best Buy and his rude attitude, but it got deleted by the mods because you can't be an asshole to an asshole.
i have used blackberry chargers since day 1. always worked well for me,
Most Best Buy employees I have worked with have been wonderful. It is not the employees fault or any customer service issue that has driven me away. It is the shear markups and unreasonable costs that has put me off.
Simple example $24.95 for a simple audio cable to hook my wifes iPod up to the AuxIN in the car.
Same brand cable at Walmart was $14, was $9 at TjMax and $5 online.
I prefer any of the 3 options above to Best Buy.

Haha Best buy is ridiculous and they think god made there stuff so we should pay that price.
Example: Laptop power cord Best buy = $79.99 - 89.99
Laptop power cord online (ebay, newegg, amazon) = $25.00 (shipping included)
Also, I fully understand that retail will always cost more than buying online. You have the overhead costs of a physical store, employees, advertising, etc so the product has to cost more in order actually make a profit and cover the costs of operation.
However, clearly if a product costs $5 online and $55 in Best Buy, there is some serious gouging going on. It will never change though because people continue to shop there and pay that price.
Sounds odd, but you can also try an AT&T store. While the chargers are generally $30 you have a one year warranty in store. Even if you're not their customer if you have the receipt you have the warranty.
For those who are on a budget I'd recommend Amazon, but some of those are iffy on the quality side.

[Q] Verizon Users: How Many of You Have Insurance?

So, I'm curious about this. How many of you have insurance on your GNex? If you do or you don't, are you subsidized or did you pay full price for your device?
I've never smashed a device, dunked it in the toilet or damaged something to the point to where I need 3rd party insurance. If I paid $7 every month for insurance on every device I've ever had, I would have wasted almost $1000!
Buying insurance from Asurion/your carrier is pissing away money. Full stop. If you want damage protection, there are far cheaper alternatives. Squaretrade is highly rated, but there are cheaper alternatives still. Your credit card may have protection for free.

I agree, totally agree. I also take much better of my devices when I buy them unsubsidized. My Vibrant is nearly 2 years old and it's in mint condition other than a couple of microscratches on the bezel from taking it apart so many times.
I purchased a $129.00 full coverage insurance for the full 2 year period. As an added bonus, the insurance will buy back the device when I'm ready to upgrade in 2 years for $175 guaranteed.....and it covers every scenario that could occur in that time period, unlike Assurian.
Sent from GNexus w/CM-9 & franco.kernel
Asurion and SquareTrade both have a $99 deductible for phones. At $7 a month, that's almost $200 in the first year for Asurion. Easier to buy a used phone at a pawn shop or Ebay. The free Lookout app (and others) give you remote locate/wipe. My credit card offers short term loss/breakage protection and doubles the warranty. So why pay?
I don't ever keep my cell phones long enough to warrant insurance.
Also consider AMEX gives you 90 days accidental warranty built in and most credit cards warranty phone for the 2nd year. Unless you are a total idiot who drops phones a lot, there is no need for insurance especially with high deductibles required by cell phone companies in addition to monthly insurance charges.

Phone Insurance - Ensquared - anyone have any comments or suggestions?

Ok, I waited too long to pull the trigger and will have to wait for another week or two to purchase a Galaxy Nexus from the play store. Anyways, while I'm waiting I'm looking for some input on insurance.
My plan is to purchase one and then the this insurance from Ensquared. It looks like a good deal. One of the things that I like when I did have a contract phone was the ability to have insurance and then only have to pay $50 - $100 deductible for a new one. Once a year I will undoubtedly loose one or damage one.
http://www.ensquared.com/catalog
$60 for one year and that gets you 2 replacements for $75 each.
$100 for 2 years and that gets you 3 replacements for $75 each.
And this does cover lost or stolen phones as well as damages.. SquareTrade only covers damages... so if you loose it you are SOL.
compared to the $5 - $9 that Sprint charges for insurance it's very competitive and they charge $100 for a deductible.
I see this as the main plus for buying a new phone from Google vs a used phone off ebay as they will only insure new units and not a used phone that you just purchased.
Any thought? Are there any other companies that offer full coverage fro phones that includes theft / loss coverage?
Thanks...

Shattered screen glass

Just a warning. 3ft drop to the corner of the device when you have no case on it WILL totally shatter the screen. Wife dropped it. $200 to replace the device. Sprint warranty for $11 a month is a joke. Better to get external insurance.`
I sadly don't know how mine broke. Quite fragile if you ask me

Best Buy Black Tie Insurance. That is why I don't have one yet, won't get it (or any phone) without Black Tie..And I sell phones, not for Best Buy.
Worth Ave Group. Insurance has NO deductible. Like $70 (guesstimate...but it's really cheap) a year for a $700 policy.
Call them. I have my wife's DSLR insured through them $2500 for $205 bucks a year. Theft is included as well as damage. Stupidly, I had not renewed and added this phone to her policy yet this year as it just expired like 3 weeks ago...and I was going to add her phone and cancel Sprint rip off $11 a month fee.
I'm an idiot for not doing it immediately.

Buy a case for the replacement yet?
I know I would rather pay $200 than shell out $650 for a brand new one. I keep the Sprint insurance for the lost/stoled coverage and the in store repairs.
Sucks to hear that it had such a short life
Has anyone found diy screen replacements yet?

A short drop even on concrete is not guaranteed to cause the screen to shatter. In most instances you'll just get minor cosmetic damage to the case, tough break though...
Now all this insurance talk is pretty interesting. Sprint charged you $200 to replace a phone under warranty? That sucks. Any better options for those of us who purchased through Sprint?

I was looking at squaretrade for 125 for 2 years, and I am thinking 100 deductable. I am curious if best buy will let you buy it after the fact that you got it at sprint?
Best Buy handles the IPhone differently but..As for Android:
You should only buy Best Buy insurance IF you purchase the phone with Best Buy.
Once you buy the phone from Best Buy you have 30 days to add insurance for $10/mo. There is NEVER a deductible. Most phones are on "rapid replacement" meaning that they give you a loaner until your new or newly refurbished comes in in 2-3 days max. They cover water damage, physical damage and even bricked phones from rooting and screwing them up. The ONLY thing they don't cover is lost or stolen.
IMO, I would return the phones to Sprint and grab it from Best Buy. I would have done that myself except I have a Buy Back on my GS2 for ~$220. If you get it from best buy, you can STILL get Sprint's Insurance. While traveling just after getting my GS2 I kept both insurances for about 2 months encase my phone was lost or stolen.

Yep.
http://www.worthavegroup.com/
Way better.
Cell Phone Insurance
2 Years Coverage
Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Coverage Amount: $599.00
Deductible Amount: $50.00
Price:
$118.00
-$5.90
$112.10 (2 years)
Processing Fee: $5.00
Total: $117.10 (2 years!)
Vs. $200 deductible and $11 per month for Sprint which is $264 (two years).
Sprint= $464 to get back a $300 valued through them phone. I called, you do NOT own the phone after this, and I do not know if I can just cancel the Sprint insurance after using it either.
vs.
Worthave= $167 and they give you $600 back.
I could feasibly run the Worth ave for $600 and if I kept Sprint's insurance pay $200 to replace the phone and keep the remaining $400. unless I have to turn the phone in to Worth Ave group. Then that wouldn't work because I know that Sprint wants the phone when it is being replaced.
But if I had to choose one over the other...Sprint for $464 (over 2 years and plus the $200 deductible) to NOT own the phone...vs...WorthAve at $167 (for a full two years) and I get $600 towards owning the phone which I think costs $700 right now.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
Woooow Worth Ave insurance is amazing.
I just called Worth Ave. If My wife takes 1 single online course. They will give her a college bundle discount with a $25 dollar deductible for up to 4K of insurance!!!!
For...drum rolllllllll
$110 a year. She just has to be enrolled first. Unreal. Best deal EVER.
Oh...and after the course is done...we can keep the bundle package as long as we don't let it lapse year to year after that.
4K of insurance (laptop, phone, camera, lens) accidental damage, or theft...for $110 a year.
Done deal.

Yeah manufacturers warranty only covers defects to the device not damage caused by a consumer. On a side note about dropping, it either slid off my bed or was something in my pocket, but I some how managed to puncture the bezel right above the s-pen. Perfect hole in the bezel but luckily no screen damage.
I put on an invisible shield type protector on the screen. Figured the sheer size of the screen would lend itself to possible damage. The extra tackiness of the protector isn't an issue, and the drag on the pen feels nice. Every little bit helps. It's one of those soapy water type protectors, fyi.

I refuse to apply any zagg protectors to any customers phones >.< Things are such a pain in my butt.
I actually throw a bunch on at one shot. One on the GN2, S3 and my Cowon S9. It's a touch more fuss than a normal protector, and if it's cut well, lasts a lot longer and is more protective. It's only hard if you skimp on the water.
Final post in here guys for me.
Check out the WorthAve thread. I just put the whole final story in there. You don't have to be in college or enrolled in ANY online class to get their insurance.... 2k worth with a $25 dollar deductible for like $67 dollars a year (using that 15off promo code I found and purchasing online).
Someone actually accused me for working for them. Even though I have been at XDA for over 2 years and have over 600 posts. lol. Whatever. Check out my thread over there...decide for yourself.
I dropped and shattered my screen last night too. EXTREMELY fragile. I haven't even had this phone 12 hours. Sad panda, that's what I am. Does Sprint fix screens? I have TEP, but just had to file a claim on my Evo LTE, so I will get dropped if I file another.

Broken Screen
My 23 year old daughter paid for the phone and pays for the service. She still lives at home. But a daddy still wants to make the hurt go away.
We have the insurance but the $175 is more than the $149 down payment. It will be a life lesson that she can afford. The funny thing is that I bought her a $6 (it's not really a case) soft cover that sticks up a little past the screen level. She said it slipped out of her hand. I've done that many times with my S3 with no problem.
I was hoping for a suggestion to get around any payment. All I could find in a search was that the S4 broke easier than a Iphone 5. If, sometime in the near future it is shown that the screens are "defective" that I was hoping to make a claim.
Back to reality. She'll pay for it. Then maybe a heavy duty case.
Thanks for the comments.

Pay the deductible now, unless you purchased with a credit card. Many - including virtually all American Express cards and Chase-issued Visas - include accidental damage protection.

If you paid with some kind of credit card most companies have a 90 warranty on the phone, covering loss (wink wink) and other accidents. I would get in contact with my CC company and find out what kind of purchase protection they have before dishing out any more cash

There is almost no way it's been 30 days considering most T-Mobile pre-orders shipped within the past week or two.
He can still buy the $99 SqT warranty.
I broke an N2 screen and the cost to repair by Samsung was $178 including taxes and 2 day shipment bot ways.
If the glass is cracked but the screen still works OK (mine did), there was a tread where the glass only was available for $25 and the OP replaced it only. I requires skill and patience and some other materials and possibly tools, but it was the cheapest path.
