With apologies for possibly asking a n00bish question but could someone point me in the right direction to find out the User Agent of the web browser on the Desire?
A forum I use has a skin that automatically recognises you are browsing on a mobile which fits much better to the screen but needs to know the User Agent so it can be recognised.
A thousand internets the kind soul who helps me in this quest!
To find/change the user agent, go to the browser and type about:debug and hit the play/refresh button. Once there, go to menu options>settings and you will see an additional set of options at the bottom of the menu. Of these one is UAString which is what you are interested in.
Just as a side not, when you enter about:debug in the browser, hit the play button on the url bar so that the browser recognises that it needs to show the debug menus.
Following the above instructions, it just comes up with 3 options "Android" "Desktop" or "iPhone".
[HTTP_USER_AGENT] => Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-gb; HTC Desire Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
From PHP of my server when I visit it using my Desire, using the latest update, Tmobile ROM
I guess if you find "Android" in the user agent you can assume its a mobile and serve the mobile page.
Thanks for the pointers guys.

I read Opera Mobile 9.7 will come w/ gfx acceleration support via OpenGL ES.
Does TP2 have OpenGL ES support (in 6.1 or 6.5 WinMo)?
I tried reading the specs page, but it's hard to make out for somebody who is not well versed in the world of mobile CPU/GPU-combinations.
Yes it does.
Short and sweet. Thanks!

no one care about browsing?
I use Opera Mini most of the time... It's by far the fastest browser you can have!
Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 is already pretty nice, but for everyday use I use 4.2, which doesn't support multiple tabs.
With the excitement that came with the new Sprint 6.5 ROM also came Remote Desktop Mobile. Remote Desktop is old news and I am sure we have seen it running in the past. But using the Touch Pro 2 and the glory of its WVGA resolution makes the experience a lot more functional. Lets not forget that the hardware keyboard makes this that much better, something the HD2 can only drool for. For those that have never seen Remote Desktop Mobile in action I would like to share my experience I had on my Touch Pro 2 with this demonstration running Windows 7, including loading web pages, photoshop, bluetooth transfer, and MS Office.
Lets have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIzZLKu2tok

I've been using Remote Desktop Mobile on my Tilt 2 to remote in to my office's terminal server for months... very convenient.
Hi,
would like to know if theres any Silverlight capable Browser available
for the Desire.
tryed search but couldnt find anything.
Why Silverlight, Mediaportal offers with ipimp a nice live tv streaming feature,
capable for iphone or also for webkit browsers supporting silverlight, like
chrome does ... working pretty nice here.
Would be great to get live tv stream on my desire too
thanks ahead for a hint.
you can try skyfire
tryed it, no luck there too, but thanks for the tip
Is there something new about Silverlight for Android?
I will use it to watch live TV on my phone.
MS Silverlight is not supported for android at the moment. But there is a project named moonlight that should run silverlight but i don't know how that work.
sky player would probably work if silverlight was able to run too
I've tried with Firefox and Skyfire, but both require the Silverlight plugin to play the TV from my local provider.
There are no silver- or moonlight plugins for these browsers
