Rating-thread-issue - About xda-developers.com

Hi xda-team,
I got a problem with rating threads (1-5 stars). To me it seems that if one person rated the thread nobody else more can rate the thread anymore. I got always an error like "you already rated this thread" when I want to rate a thread that already has some "stars". Is this only my problem or is it a bug of vBulletin-software?
THX in advance!

The admins are already aware of this Fault, it has also been bumped in the mod forum for an update.
Dave

Too many fanboys

Is there a way to ignore users permantley from my thread display? People that just say 'thanks!' or 'wow this is awesum!!', 'donation sent!'. Trying to bring up the S/N ratio would be useful.
Anyway to do this yet?
I think the Signal to Noise ratio is fine most of the time, and as a new member of the forum I'm sure you will soon find that the posts with low signal are usually in response to a thread with low substance.
There's an ignore list here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/profile.php?do=ignorelist
netmasta10bt:
There is no "your" thread.
STOP LURKING!
DaveShaw:
No he ment if he can disable useless posts in ROM threads.
Wow great donation sent, cheers man , this is awsome.......
as above, stop lurking
i find this thread funny, eventually one day hes gonna end up saying "donating thanks man!"
gah people these days just cant deal with it and just move on
Hi,
even though I dont want to whine, I have to admit that a thanks/donation sent system would make threads shorter.
Seeing a 50 page thread, is um, demotivating
There is one already, just rate the thread 5 stars.
Well why not, if user says thanks, thread gets automatically 5 star yay!
WOW! Thanks! This is just Awesome! Donation [email protected]@@
hahahaha i can see myself using the "godmode hack" puttin all the mods and admins on that list
Hey, this is a great thread! Wow, thanks man!

[Q] Where are the moderators?

It seems like the forums have gone to complete hell lately with flames junk topics like "lol, socks" and "omfg 2.2 root!!???".
Is xda-devs short of moderators to lock and delete crap topics and flames? I thought the forum rules spoke against this.

Hey, great thread...
2.5 MILLION members
100 or so moderators
Care to calculate the member to moderator ratio?
Maybe you could start a new thread with the answer..

You were being facetious I assume. I'd be more than willing to do that math, but since you were able to find letters on a keyboard I assume you also can do it
P.S. I came in when I saw "lol, socks" in the preview. I still don't get it.

It would be more accurate to calculate the # of forums/moderator ratio.
I'm interested in any alternative suggestions you might have. If you care to look at the threads, it's only a relatively small handful of trolls and junk topic creators.

My point is threads like this do nothing to help the situation.
We had a day long "town hall" meeting several months ago where the mods and users came together to discuss ways of improving things.
If you think a thread is junk or is in the wrong forum USE THE REPORT BUTTON
The mods don't have time to read every single thread and determine if it is legit or a waste of space. They asked us members for our help and said the best thing we can do to help is use the report button as it is intended.
Not to mention that with all the bullcrap threads that get started every day you are going to complain about the mods???
If you are going to complain about anyone it should be about the jerks that come in here with tunnel vision on the "New Thread" button and start new threads without reading ANYTHING
Is it an inconvenience? Does it clutter the forum in a HUGE way?
Yes and Yes, but complaining about the moderation is the wrong perspective.
Reminder: The mods here are V O L O U N T E E R S ! ! ! Help them out, go on a bullcrap thread reporting frenzy.

Calm down. Having a bad day?
Also, if you're going to spell out "VOLUNTEERS" at least spell it correctly.

Having a great day, I just dont understand why you complain about the mods regarding a problem that you are contributing to with this very thread.
Take your own advice:

Your just adding to what your complaining about. A thread like this pops up almost daily.....

The moderators are out not making new threads in a wrong place.
Alternative to thread-making altogether, just send them a personal message to get your issue resolved.
I like to type things... And you are reading this...

I'm not sure that I did. Is there a way to see a version history?
im right here, everyday and night. i would suggest reporting posts that are in violation of forum rules. i do my best to read as many threads i can and at least drop in and check out the conversations taking place. that said i cant read every post in every forum. the solution to this isnt to start a thread in the spirit of complaining about things not going the way u want them to. the solution would be to take action and report the posts that are out of line. this is a community and every member of the community can report people. at the second a post is reported most likely a moderator will handle the situation.
so please instead of complaining. do something to help out. contribute something to the community. dont add to the problem by flaming back or starting threads to complain about it.
that said... this thread is closed and ill leave my answer for everyone to see. i alone cant see everything. but we all together can bring those who are here for the wrong reason to light, so they can be dealt with.
PS this was posted in the wrong section. Questions need to be posted in Q&A. hence the title of the subforum(Q&A)

[Q] Query - posts dropped to 0

Hi,
Apologies if this has already been covered or if this is the wrong location to post this.
I am a fairly junior member. Although I have been a member for 5 years or so, I have been more of a reader than a joiner.
I noticed today, that my posts number next to my user name dropped to 0. I may have not poted much in the past, however, not sure why they dropped to 0.
I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks.

Hmm, I cannot see that any of your posts have been deleted (moderators can see deleted posts), so I'm not entirely sure what's gone on...

I as well only see 3 posts, which were posted today. I will notify the admin of this
@ miller-might This can happen if you made all or nearly all of your posts in one thread. If the thread is then removed / merged / deleted then the posts can disappear completely.
If you think you may have posted in a single thread, then give us an idea what the thread may have been called or it's subject if you don't remember the title. However, I should point out that as others above have said, if the posts still exist the Moderators would be able to see them even if deleted.
Mike
Many thanks for the help. I think they may have been originally in the same thread as at the time I was following developments and roms for my the HTC touch pro.
Not to worry, I was just a little confused, but makes more sense now.
Thanks again.

Forum Double Notifications

Hi,
I'm subscribed to a few threads in which I'm participating here on XDA but when I'm quoted by someone I receive 1 email for being quoted on that thread and another for someone posting on it, both regarding the same post. This is quite terrible if you start a discussion on a couple threads. It would be great if someone in charge could take a look at this ASAP. Also, I think it would be great if people with the same problem dropped a line here as well.

Questions for Mi Max 3 owners

Looking to get some feedback from the actual device owners. Someone, who has this phone, the box and documentation that came with in their possession. I'm not interested in links to any websites, including official Xiaomi / Mi sites, or any specifications, pasted from a web source. I just want to hear back from device owners. If you do not own the device and have thoughts/opinions to share, please create another thread for that purpose. Thank you for understanding
Does the phone variant you have support wireless charging? If not - have you tried using wireless charging receiver with it, something like this one?
Can you list FDD-LTE bands your phone supports? They should be published either on the product box or inside the documentation that came with (again - no web links or sources, please)
If you don't mind sharing - where did you buy yours from?
TIA
Sir, please know if this thread turns into this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3819107
It will be quickly closed too, and there won't be a third. And I'll be subbed to this one. :good:
Keep it civil and respectful folks.
Thanks!

Edit : And again, you cannot control who posts here. You'll need to open your own site for that. Not sure why you'd start out on the wrong foot again?

Since you closed the other thread, I replied to your comments and your decision to close it in private, but if you want an answer here - I'm absolutely fine with that. The answer to your question is: I don't consider having started anything on the wrong foot, either now or ever. Targeting specifically device owners with questions is not unprecedented, not against forum rules and is actually quite common on XDA. There are hundreds of threads, where people ask owners for device review, or ask questions like "where did you buy it from?" or "How is the battery life?" - all of these can only be answered by someone, who owns the device. On the other hand, your notion or "suggestion" that there is something wrong with asking for owners' feedback is rather uncommon, and unprecedented in my 10+ years of experience as XDA member (and a lot longer as unregistered reader). I am sincerely hoping you will reconsider your position and retract your comments. In other thread, which you closed, I provided details explanations why I want feedback from owners (even though I didn't owe anyone explanation about target audience for my questions), so I'm not gonna repeat it here. There is really, absolutely nothing wrong with asking for owners feedback/advice and it is done all the time - let me know if you want some examples of such other XDA threads.

I won't reply to anything above here. That can be discussed privately.
All I've asked is for this thread to remain respectful for every one, unlike the last one, or it's fate will be the same. Never once did I imply the topic is invalid, only the senseless arguing was.
Thank you. :good:
As a suggestion: you could contact Xiaomi support. I'm sure they'd give you a more trustworthy answer than anything you read posted here, as you can't verify the poster is telling the truth. So, as the saying goes, get it from the horse's mouth - and then you could inform the community of your findings.
Nope no wireless charging.. have a whole bunch of wireless chargers from my Nexus 6, LG G3, S7 Edge and S9 Plus. It's physically impossible to have one too.
