[Q] Query - posts dropped to 0 - About xda-developers.com

Hi,
Apologies if this has already been covered or if this is the wrong location to post this.
I am a fairly junior member. Although I have been a member for 5 years or so, I have been more of a reader than a joiner.
I noticed today, that my posts number next to my user name dropped to 0. I may have not poted much in the past, however, not sure why they dropped to 0.
I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks.

Hmm, I cannot see that any of your posts have been deleted (moderators can see deleted posts), so I'm not entirely sure what's gone on...

I as well only see 3 posts, which were posted today. I will notify the admin of this

@ miller-might This can happen if you made all or nearly all of your posts in one thread. If the thread is then removed / merged / deleted then the posts can disappear completely.
If you think you may have posted in a single thread, then give us an idea what the thread may have been called or it's subject if you don't remember the title. However, I should point out that as others above have said, if the posts still exist the Moderators would be able to see them even if deleted.
Mike

Many thanks for the help. I think they may have been originally in the same thread as at the time I was following developments and roms for my the HTC touch pro.
Not to worry, I was just a little confused, but makes more sense now.
Thanks again.

Please stop asking the same question over and over again. I have seen this same post in 2 other threads. People have seen it, if they don't answer is because they might not know the answer.
I googled this a bit and found nothing... I recommend you doing the same and see if you can come up with an answer. Since there are still new versions leaking, I am sure that they have not "finalized" 6.5.3 yet. I did read somewhere that they may be planning on a 6.7 (before releasing 7, that is... but that is only a rumor).

Sorry if I offended you. I posted it maybe once(?) that I recall, and assumed that you where either busy with other things, had forgotten, or where not able to find an answer. Those of us addicted to the forum tend to read everything, but many users either don't have the time or interest in reading EVERY post. Since I had asked about this a week ago, if memory serves me (short term memory is not what is used to be before my stroke) and you didn't answered, I decided to ask in the general upgrade forum. Not trying to be annoying, just persistent

I am not pissed or anything, don't get me wrong, but you are not supposed to double post. It increases the amount of clutter that is already a big issue in this forum (mainly due to the lack of moderators). I didn't mean to sound pissed... I just had a little too much coffee today, that's all

Re: Forum Suggestion /"State of the Site"
i tried posting in where i felt was the appropreate thread linked to in the "state of the site" but it has already been closed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10673299
anyway i completely agree with many of the administrative decisions discussed there. i just have some suggestions to help those work, coming from my experience as a new member my first few days. (few weeks ago)
first of all how did i come here? google searches for questions i had about my captivate. after finding info on XDA few times through google, i realized this is a place i may want to check out more, but it took some looking around just to understand the BASIC POINT of what XDA was all about. Something that would really help people understand "THIS IS THE PLACE!" could use a short, straight to the point "sub-title" at the top of your webpage beside your xdadevelopers logo. something that reads like:
"the home for smartphone development, troubleshooting and ideas.."
the second small issue i want to bring up is new users not being able to post in development forums. WAIT!! I AGREE WITH THIS. BUT, when i was new here i was seeing not able to post in a dev forum talking about something i needed info on, and i was seeing other minor members in other threads getting "chewed out" for posting in a "developers" forum.
HERE WAS MY CONFUSION: www.xda-DEVELOPERS.com it appears to a noob straight off the google express that the whole site is developers...
i started looking for www.xda.com forums.xda.com ect....
it took a bit of searching around the site before i realized the "Developers" section that i couldnt post in was the SUB-forum of the Captivate sub-forum.
it was just a bit confusing until i saw the layout of the site for all the different phones and the sub catagories each had.
i hope these suggestions can bring forth some ideas that can help the integration of new members.
Thanks for your opinion
Yah, I really like your idea. We're going to consider it.
what ever happened to these suggestions?
dude i flet the same when i first got here! great recommendation!

Hi there,
I'm a noob and this is my first post so please don't rip in to me for this or for the fact that I am resurrecting an old post
I thought that it would be better to quote a post that reflected my feelings and possibly (hopefully) answer my questions.
I have an HTC Inspire that I imported into Australia from gsmnation.com as I liked the feature set of the phone and it was compatible with my carrier over here unlike the Desire HD that is available locally but not compatible with my carrier.
I have lurked around these forums as an unregistered user since having my phone and used the great advice shown to root it and put Android Revolution 4G 4.0 by mike1986 on it.
Have been very happy with it but now I want more.
In particular I would like to put Gingerbread onto it with Sense 3.5.
I had been following a thread about RCMix3d Runny v4.0.
I took the plunge and registered at XDA but now I can't even view the thread without getting the vBulletin message saying that members without a post count of 10 or less cannot post in developers threads.
Fair enough I say but surely we can at least view the threads.
I can view various other threads but i cant even find the one mentioned above.
Can someone tell me if the thread has been deleted (all 1264 pages according to Google cache search - I was up to page 127!).
Have tried searching using XDA's custom Google search feature but can't find the thread anywhere.
Any advice about whether the thread still exists or if I am doing something wrong that is not even letting me view the thread.

Thanks for the quick response...Very impressive.
Is there an alternative for this ROM or another sticky for that one around the place or has it been obliterated from XDA?
I have downloaded the ROM to my PC but if there is no longer any support for it on these boards then my quest for a nice GB ROM will have to continue.
I wonder how receptive capychimp is to noobs? I am in awe of the guy

My issue with the 10-post rule

Hi all,
This will probably get deleted, but I'm just trying to contribute to discussion and get around what I consider a poor thought-out rule at the same time.
I am a long time reader, particularly of the [ROM] ICS 4.0.4 BCM RC3.4U0 GSM/CDMA <2012-05-19> (Bravo CM9 HWA) thread, but first time poster.
I consider myself to know more about the topic than a large number of the posters in that thread, though I certainly don't have knowledge on the subject anywhere near that than the experts in the thread. However, there have been many times when I have had the answer to someone's question, but have not been able to post.
The reason I cannot post is because the thread is limited to users who have made 10 or more posts. I can understand the need to filter out people who are asking the same question over and over again, but in doing so you filter out those who can genuinely contribute to the discussion. Just because I am not an active member in other forums of XDA, does not mean I am not able contribute to this thread.
So now, I have what I consider a reasonable question for the author of the thread, or another expert who may come across it. This question hasn't been asked before, and it bothers me that I cannot ask it. Other people may also benefit from me asking and receiving an answer to this question.
I thought about just creating 10 pointless posts in the general forum, but decided that would benefit no one. So here is my contribution to these forums, followed my 9 pointless posts. Kidding, I'll see whether I get responses to this and respond accordingly myself.
Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Shaun
P.S. I have to wait 5 minutes between editing posts as a new user to prevent spam? I've been here 5 months and not once posted anything, let alone spam.

If you know more about that topic, then you could have been sharing it all those months, by just making a few posts in your device's General thread. Or in it's Q&A thread. Or in a thread in the General Forum here. Or in the Off Topic forum. Pity.
Here is excellent advice on how to achieve 10 (and more) QUALITY posts.
Welcome to XDA.
One other thing, Dev threads are for development. If you want to help more people, start a thread like this one in your device Q&A area. You will be amazed at how many people you can help there.
Thanks for your response, the link you gave was interesting and I should have looked for such information prior to posting. Considering I was quite blunt, I appreciate your helpful explanation.
Personally I still feel the rule is limiting many people from contributing from discussion that would otherwise get involved. I know there aren't exactly any other solutions to reduce the number of repeat questions, but my opinion is that more discussion is better than less, provided it is on-topic (even if it may be a "stupid" question).
I'll admit I'm not here explicitly to share my knowledge, I am here to gain knowledge for myself. I think most users here would be the same, although obviously there is a great community here that are not just in it for themselves. But if I see someone struggling with something that I know the answer to, I would be pleased to have the opportunity to give them a hand and give back in that manner, rather than lurk in silence.
I also do not consider myself an expert in any area XDA relates to. However having read the entire thread, referenced in the first post, over the months it has been contributed to, I consider myself able to help out there more than anywhere else on XDA. The Q&A type thread you mentioned is not specific to the knowledge I have gained from following the thread and it seems to more sensible to me to give my knowledge back to people where they will be looking for it.
As an aside, I'm not sure how much I would even consider the thread a development thread. For the most part it is one person developing (combined with his using work from other developers etc). What he does is excellent, no doubt about that, but it is basically him alone developing. The thread itself is mainly substantiated of feedback to improve to ROM or questions on any issues or the like. It is not used for collaboration as such. Any additional discussion would not hinder development collaboration, rather it would allow for more feedback for the developer and more knowledge for users of the ROM.
Thanks again for your reponse mf2112.
To be honest, I'm not sure what I thought I may achieve by posting here, as I'm sure you've seen it all before. So that said, if you wish to finish the discussion here that's fine by me, but if you do have more to add, I'd be happy to hear it.
Thanks.
I'm just like you, struggling to get something more in this forum. Just never give up.
The first few post restrictions are mostly for spam control. Otherwise new accounts would be opened and we would be flooded with spam posts advertising stuff in every forum.
Your device appears to be the HTC Desire from the ROM link. If you want to learn more, check out the other Desire subforums. Knowledge is everywhere on XDA.

The 10 post rule is for dev forums. If you have less than 10 then it is supposed to stop you from posting there, however it seems not to be enforced sometimes in some dev threads.

Similar situation here, but the rule is pretty standard at a lot of forums. Nothing to do about it but try to make 10 productive posts. Here's my first one. I noticed that the introduction threads are in each device forum, so an intro for each device will put me pretty close.
I'm a huge fan of the XDA community, and like the OP, I've been reading different threads for months. Looking forward to learning with you guys and hopefully contributing eventually. My experience in the field is limited, I learned basic web development in the early 2000s and have barely kept those skills up in the last decade.
Rooted EVO 4G - off contract, used mostly by 4 year old
Wife has stock EVO 3D - had S-ON root but got it put back to stock for her
I have an unlocked and rooted Motorola Photon, running CW7
Asus Transformer running stock ICS
Samsung Galaxy 10.1" running stock HC
I'll be getting an EVO View in a few days, will update at that time.
i too am a long time member here in XDA, since i got the XDA II hmmmm or was it the casiopia
anyways i recently became active just this 2012 when i got my hands on the HD2 - what a magnificent phone & there are alot of magnificent devs & chef here in XDA.
just by asking a lot of "meaningful" question i got through the hurdles of flashing & upgrading & even made my own tutorial for the ultra noob's
whatever Rule or Restriction that is in placed now is for the good of the site & it's user after all this is a FREE Forum/ site & at the same time you get to learn from some of the greatest.
now this is something else lol

Forced?
If people feel the need to spam to reach ten posts then I dare say that they have nothing worth contributing to a development forum.

Well, let's look at it this way. What happens when you start to look for threads you can contribute to? You start to post and be a contributing member of XDA instead of a leech. No one likes leeches - they suck the life from XDA. So why don't you take that fury that you evidently are feeling and turn that into a force to be reckoned with? Become someone who is known for contributing.
I understand being frustrated by the limit. However, once I decided I wanted to post in the dev forums, it took me less than two days to make 10 good posts. Two days sounds like a lot, but I would take that anyday to keep these forums as clean and awesome as they are.
The moderators already take on a huge responsibility - look at how many threads end up getting locked because someone gets on here and asks the experts to draw up a 20-step program for their own personal use instead of taking a few hours to read and process the large amount of content that is already here. Imagine how much worse this would be is such posts were also mucking up the dev forums.

That is exactly what happened to me when I started here a few months ago. I wanted to post a question in a Sensation dev thread, ran into the limit, and now just a few months later, I am on here for hours every day in my "jobby" helping people in various threads in multiple forums.
It's really easy to get 10 posts in less than an hour. Just answer some questions in q&a and general and yes, if can't easily answer any questions on this entire forum, then you really shouldn't be posting anything. Ever.

Still not authorized to reply to a dev thread.

Hey, I really hope I'm not missing something here, but here goes. When I first started reading XDA it was maybe June... by later in the year I really wanted to post my ideas or some useful scripts I've made. Unfortunately whenever I tried to even respond to a ROM thread, I got that 10 post error. I guess it makes sense, seeing as there's probably a lot of garbage an unsuspecting newbie can post to a thread. But anyhow, today when I realized I have posted (exactly?) 10 posts, I'm still unable to respond to the dev section or make threads. And it's kind of unnerving. So where would I attempt to find the information on:
1. How to post in those threads when you meet all prerequisites
2. How to become stated as "Member" as opposed to "Junior Member"
3. And.. ... how to get a signature... even though that's less important.
I really hope I'm not missing protocol here.. I searched around and there were some old vague threads that didn't help much. I used good keywords, I do web SEO as a service so I think I searched hard enough. :/
Any help is definitely appreciated.

It should be automatic, it might just take a few hours for the system to put you into a new user group.
You go from "Junior Member" to "Senior Member" when you get 100 posts.
Thanks . The dev forum allows my posts now, which is good. And I am a Junior Member still but that makes sense, it's not like I'm a longtimer on the XDA forums. Also, how can I get my signature going? I always enjoy having a signature.

Try helping yourself. I know, it's a tough concept.
There are three or four threads right on the very front page of this subforum that will answer all of your questions.
Have a cow? I'm not having a cow. I'm sick of people that can figure out how to post a completely redundant question without following rule number one of the forum.
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news

Nobody was being an "ass." The forum rules say to search first. There are at least three threads on the front page that say "noob" and cover what the OP had asked for. Typing a response to the same question over and over because "noobs" are too lazy to help themselves is tiring.
If the OP is incapable of following directions, of reading where others had screwed up and how to fix it, a video isn't going to help.
Never called u names, so let's not start.... I will just move on, thanks for your warm suggestions. Have a good one

Come back in a couple of weeks when you can start yet another thread!
Someday u will get out of your mom's basement. Get a life
There are a few videos on YouTube but the rooting is scary. My N4 is my only phone so I read up and took the plunge. It all worked out but not without a few hangups. People on XDA will help you out of a jam if needed.

My mom is dead and I'm 600 miles from her house, but thanks for playing. See you in a couple of weeks. Will you be bringing a new sock puppet?

Did you join just to post this or are you a sock puppet?
Nobody was being an "ass." The forum rules say to search first. There are at least three threads on the front page that say "noob" and cover what the OP had asked for. Typing a response to the same question over and over because "noobs" are too lazy to help themselves is tiring.

Joined just to post this. I've been lurking the forums for a long time as I have a rooted Note 4 but never had a reason to post. You showing very little respect for your peers on the forums caused me finally create an account so my voice could be heard. If you still believe I'm a sock puppet you can google my username and find I am active across a wide range of forums and platforms. I'm in no way associated with blastoff but I have been in his situation before so I understand where he is coming from and have sympathy for him. He tried to be civil about it and you are throwing accusations at him about making puppets without any possible proof other than it being a new account. This is a place meant for people to converse, ask questions, and be friendly and yet somehow you have managed to do the exact opposite. I get that he posted a new thread instead of searching but instead of posting a snappy response about how he broke the rules and should help himself you could maybe show a sliver of kindness and welcome him to the forums and inform him that all his answers are in previously posted threads. This will the last time I respond on this thread as I'm not going to waste my time arguing with someone on the other side of a screen.
With that said, Blastoff, if you need any assistance please feel free to message me and if I'm able to I will assist you. Good luck on your journey to rooting your phone!

This is blastoffs 2nd thread with the same question. Both times posting ridiculous questions about note 4 root. If he had searched, he'd have his answer, and that's the point. Douger1957 has assisted tons of people with root, unlock, firmwares, etc. So before you pass judgement, search a little yourself, and see how douger1957 responds overall, not just with trolls.

That's the thing , I read alot how to root. Rooted many other phones myself. Maybe my first post wasn't in the right spot... Tried to be very civil about it. But just got way to many negative vibes . I have read post , how to root in this forum . Never once this guy pointed me in the right direction... I really think this guy has failed this Forum. .. :/

Oh, look. Two sock puppets talking to each other. How cute.
I didn't fail the forum, Bunky. I failed a troll. I won't lose any sleep over it.

Yes there's plenty of vids. I've rooted plenty of phones, but can't seem to root this one. The vids say use kingo root, but I tried every one I found and none rooted my note 4 verizon.

You did fail the forum. It sounds like you're usually pretty good on here, but there's almost a page of garbage here now because of your initial reply. This thread could have been 2 posts. "Is there a vid" and some time in the future "http://hereIsThe.vid".

Ok ......here's the thing...On July 9th Douger1957 gave blastoff a link to the threads that explain in detail the processes to help him get rooted and unlocked. Then exactly 10 days later blastoff starts a new thread asking for a video....sorry, vid...this isn't rocket science. No need for a second thread, no need for drama.....simply search first, help yourself, ask informed questions that show you've at least tried something, anything! .......root?......vid? Of course you're going to get a response with some frustration included. In the last couple of weeks more 1 post members have shown up than ever before, with disrespectful questions, comments, and responses. Wtf. They drop these questions, get helped, don't thank anyone, show no respect for the members that have helped the most. Tons of people come, ask, take, complain, and don't contribute or thank the devs. Hsbadr has complained about this very thing, hundreds of downloads and a minimal amount of thanks or donations. So, go ahead and say what you will, my opinion is, the people who are assisting others all the time, should get the benefit of the doubt when these situations arise. And the single post members should exhaust all avenues of search before asking questions about things that have 4 or 5 detailed threads already.
