Install firmware from SD. How? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi there, My P3300 doesn't synch thru the usb cable, probably a false contact. Moreover, after a Backup it stopped working. I have the backup.exe on the phone, but I can't run it as I get the msg "digital signature not available or one of the components cannot be found ...". The phone is no more usable as probably some sw is missing.
In a few words, can anyone suggest a method to get a Italian firmware, and a method to burn it in, assumed that I could only use an SD card to inject it in the phone?
P.S. I don't care on saving the data, it would be enough to have, again, a working phone.
Thanks anybody for your patience, reading.
Bye

Hi,
I've had synching problems before too.
I've tried everything, but the only solution was a hard reset.
This restored the (active)sync utility and everything was fine after that.
Of course all data was lost!
Have you tried a hard reset?

SD Card Intermittently disappears until Soft Reset?

Hi
In the last week or so my SD card has suddenly started disappearing until I soft reset the device. If I remove and reinsert a different card this also does not appear. The only way I have found to resolve the problem is to do a soft reset. It will then be visible for a day until it disappears again.
I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific application or action.
Has anybody else seen this (or even better know what the problem may be?)
I have had the same problem i found it to be "Spb ToPlay" everytime i used it if i stopped it playing i lost all sound on my XdaIIs and the SD card went missing. removed the plug-in and havent had the problem since...........................do you have this plug-in? if you dont then i have no idea sorry i couldnt help.
I have recently installed spb time but it doesn't conincide with my problems starting. I may try disabling it to see if that makes a difference.
this has happened to me before, but i didnt have anything like you mentioned installed, so it must be a bug or something!!!
I found on my M1000 that the card will not be visible when the battery gets low, most times it gives a message like "the power is too low to support the device"
Happens to me with my O2 XDA IIs. When I contacted O2 about it, guess what their reply was?
Reply number 1:
"Thank you for choosing O2!
With regards to your query below, you may like to remove your storage card and monitor the device. Please note that O2 Asia has tested with different brands of 256MB SD card and works fine. However, storage card of larger size may not work properly and cause the device to hang. You may also like to test your unit with another storage card to verify. Hope the above information is useful for you. Thank you."
Reply number 2:
"With regards to your query below, you may like to perform a hard reset and
without restoring back any data back to the phone, try to change the
landscape again and see if the problem still persist.
**To perform a full reset:
Warning: Clearing memory deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone

data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Before performing the full reset, use ActiveSync to keep a backup of your
Pocket PC Phone data so that if you need to clear memory, you can restore
the data on your Pocket PC Phone.Do not use Xbackup on your device to do
backup for your data.
To perform a full reset on XdaIIs, press and hold the power button, and then
use stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. After the full
reset, you will be prompt to recalibrate the touch screen.

What a load of crap!

downgrade via sd card

hi people,
I have upgraded my xda2 to wm2005, now active sync has crashed and i cannot get a connection going at all with it.
does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade via an sd card. I'd like to put the image on the sd card then do the downgrade from there.
I cannot use the normal methods because they all require an activesync connection.
if you do and could give me a real dummies step by step, I would be very grateful
thanks
First suggestion re-install act.sync on your PC & if your xda2 is the problem: hard-reset that one.
yeah, I have done that. I have tried it on another pc, and re-installed active sync 4
thanks
& that didn't work, too bad. Then you need advice from a xda2 specialist, & that's not me (I only know the magician). Have you checked your device's wiki section?
I have not checked but will do now, thanks anyway
success

Upgrade to WM6 fails ERROR [260]: CONNECTION

Hi everybody,
I'm stuck trying to upgrade my TyTn to WWE WM6 (HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe).
After following all the steps of the upgrade wizard, the screen of the Tytn goes black and subsequently the ActiveSync connection is lost. After a while i then get the dreaded "ERROR [260]: CONNECTION".
I am running the original ROM (ROM 1.18.255.3) , and active sync 4.5 on Windows XP SP2. I downloaded the WM6 upgrade directly from HTC website after properly registering my device.
I even tried upgrading to SPL version is 2.10.olipro, but i still get the same behaviour.
[EDIT] Another thing i noticed is that when launching the upgrade executable, when it "veryfies informationj on my computer", if the TyTn is already connection via ActiveSync, it automatically resets into bootloader (4 colors window) and i am forced to perform a soft reset before re-trying the upgrade.
Could anybody help me out here?
Thx!
few people have seen this - no solution as yet.
Best workaround is to use the SD Card update method. No USB connection required.
todd_jg, could you please point me out to a procedure for upgrading to WM6 via SD card?
Thank you in advance.
dondobert
There is a description in the WIKI, just go HERE for instructions on how to flash from SD card.
Best wishes
I'm having the same exact problem....
I'll try the SD card method I guess. I'm suspecting it has something to do with how activesync recognizes my phone, because when I just sync normally it doesn't do it as well as previous phones, for example when I plug in the phone it wont auto recognize, I hafta manually start active sync on my computer before it starts.
this is because the usb port in the device is crap...it gets worn and then the cable gets lose....im having the same problem ,it is a nitemare...new usb cable sometime fixes the problem.i have tried 7 new cables the same happens. it gets so bad tha you will be unabled to charge the device,im afraid we got to send the device to htc for repair.
Still nothing...
Just tried for a few hours to perform the upgrade via SD card... but no way!
After reading various threads on the forum i think i tried every tweak and twist in order to have the upgrade via SD card method work (made sure the SD card is formatted as FAT32, not corrupted and with only the HERMING.nbh on it; tried also with SSPL-HERM.exe; etc.) but still no success at all.
Like other users i read of, after entering bootloader, my TyTn just sits there and the only way to proceed is to perform a soft reset.
Any idea?
Has anybody who has the USB upgrade problem been able to succesfully upgrade with the SD card method, or does there seem to be some kind of connection between the two failures?
Thx
@dondobert -
i assumed, you have already tried to uninstall and re-install ActiveSych 4.5 and recreate the synch profile.
OR
try this -
#1. on your phone device goto start-settings-connections-USB to PC
and set the tick mark to Enable advanced network.
#2. synch your device via ActiveSync
#3. do your upgrade OS or Radio
#4. once you are completed the install, undo #1.
Note 1: only do the above steps if you are having continously encountered the lost connectivity to ActiveSynch during the OS or Radio upgrade.
Note 2: your device must has either HardSPL Olipro method or SuperCID
The best way I have found to work around error 260 is
First disable Antivirus software
Next Go into Windows Firewall then exception tab, and search for "Windows Mobile-based Device Connectivity". Check it as an exception.
For the people who use Microsoft Live OneCare,
Go to "Change OneCare Settings" then go to the "Firewall" tab then click the "Firewall Connection Tool" . Make sure the Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center is checked on
Good luck
Let me know if this works

I had this problem, and managed to upgrade with my SD card just fine. In fact, my upgrade died and the device was stuck on bootloader mode.
The SD upgrade method is so reliable I may just do it now for every upgrade.
@dondobert -
on your reply post #8, you have mispelled on the HERMING.nbh file name. it should be HERMIMG.nbh
please verify the file name on your SD card, and rerun the SD procedure.
I had the same 260-error. Fixed:
- Did a "Clear Storage" (factory settings)
- Did all the "settings up your new device"-stuff.
- Did new active sync to computer (vista)
- Flashed just fine from original exe. (And i do have olipro SPL)
I have problem and resolved
Hi I have a same problem but, i just try to upgrade with mobile in boot mode and appears the error, but when connect normally mobile to pc and start upgrade error dissapear, and upgrade full, schap's spanish and radio 1.50 try this method cheers
Had the same problem and got it working
You need to set you TyTn in bootloader (4 color screen) mode and then connect it to the computer. then start loading the WM6 and you should be fine. I had done it using Schaps wm6 and it worked fine...
good luck.
Hi there ...
I had the same Prob with error 260 ...
- After i disabled the "USB-TO-PC" extendet function
- Reboot the PC
- Soft Reset my Vario II
ist works, but i don't know why
I hope it will work on yout decive to ... CU No.Trace !!!
Successful!!!
Thank you all for the great support!
For all of those out there still struggling with the problem, for me it finally worked following hellomotto's suggestion.
Regarding otoro_315 remark: yes, my mispelling int he post, file name on SD card was indeed HERMIMG.nbh.
Thank you all again!
Cheers
Had exactly the same problem. Resorted to SD upgrade - went very smoothly (Official Cingular WM6). However, will keep these suggestions in mind for the future.
I think the SD upgrade probably also eliminates some possible points of failure. According to wiki instructions, SD must be erased except for the img file - takes a bit to transfer 2G to/from SD. Don't know if this is a must - but didn't want to take a chance. Might just buy a cheapie SD just for upgrades.
One more for the SD card method. Extremely quick too ...I was really amazed that a 45MB ROM would flash in less than 5 minutes.
And it worked fine for me WITHOUT even formatting the SD Card first, I just pasted the extracted .nbh file to the root folder and loaded the SSPL file.
You mean the SD card was not erased and there were other files on it? (You don't say that explicitly).
I too was amazed at the speed - the wiki said it takes about 30 minutes - when it indicated complete in less than 10 min, I let it alone for about 15 min. because I thought it was going to do something else!

Hard reset required?

In one of my more thoughtless moments I have installed the emoze client on my S620. Now the phone locks up after every restart. Is there any way I can stop that software from starting or do I have to do a hard reset!
hopeful
Adrian
I guess you never found an answer here? I have the exact same problem. Old versions of emoze worked fine... new one, killed my dash.
I haven't tried it, but from other posts I've gathered that you can remove the SIM card, start the phone, do NOT clear the error at boot, connect USB to a PC and launch ActiveSync, then remove the offending program from \Windows\StartUp. This avoid the hard reset.

I'm not really familiar with this app, but just out of curiosity, did you install this on your micro-SD card? if you did, then remove the sd card and then reboot. This will make the startup link "fizzle out" since it's pointing to media located on a piece of hardware that is not installed. This should allow you to then re-insert the micro-SD card (after a couple of minutes) and then go through the settings-->>remove programs ...portion
Thanks for the feedback.
I cant remember where I installed the offending software.
I have done a hard reset since the original post and all is working fine, but I will snaffle those ideas away for future reference - should it ever happen again.
I love this forum!

[Q] [Please Help!] Recovery of Data from Factory Reset on SGH-I747

My company's IT department set an enterprise-level Exchange 2010 ActiveSync mailbox policy that enables a local device wipe after multiple failed password attempts. My child was playing with my phone and apparently enacted this, creating a factory reset and complete wipe of my phone. I am now looking for any way to recovery the hundreds of pictures (and videos and other data) that were stored locally on the phone's internal memory. Note: I do NOT have an SD card and unfortunately I did not back up the files in the cloud or anywhere else. (shame on me)
I have scoured this board and others and been unable to find a solution or work around. Or, the things I've tried have been thwarted by issues. (example: apparent inability to enable USB Mass Storage (UMS) on an un-rooted device?) I'm fairly savvy with computers (mainly Windows) and am very logical and methodical in troubleshooting but I don't have dev experience, Linux familiarity, file recovery experience or any advanced knowledge in this area. I would be very grateful for any insight. My basic question is this:
Question: How can I recover deleted files from a stock 4.1.2 SGH-I747 after a factory reset?
I will actively monitor this thread and answer any additional questions. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!
admitch4
Just wanted to bump this thread as I am still desperately trying to find a solution.
Also, here is an update/recap:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747) running Android 4.1.2. My phone is rooted. A factory reset was inadvertently performed on the phone that wiped the entire internal memory (I do not have an external SD card). I had many very important pictures of my children, family, etc. that I would really like to get back if it’s at all possible. I installed DiskDigger and performed a scan for all .jpgs. The tool sees “/data” of 12.24 GiB (and other devices) but the scan does NOT result in any files. Does this mean none of the files are recoverable? Or, would it help to try another tool? I’m happy to purchase DiskDigger Pro or try anything else if it will help at all. Or, I'm also up for trying much more drastic measures if there is a reasonable likelihood of some recovery. Thanks in advance for any information or feedback.

Hi, you should try "UnDelete"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete&hl=en
This may or may not work on the phone as long as you didn't overwrite many files. ( I have not tested hard resets.)
Thanks
EDIT : Sorry! I was wrong! I just tried a different app, and it recovered half of a deleted image on a phone I was repairing. Its called DiskDigger.
Search in /data (that is the internal SDcard)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger&hl=en
