SD Card Intermittently disappears until Soft Reset? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi
In the last week or so my SD card has suddenly started disappearing until I soft reset the device. If I remove and reinsert a different card this also does not appear. The only way I have found to resolve the problem is to do a soft reset. It will then be visible for a day until it disappears again.
I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific application or action.
Has anybody else seen this (or even better know what the problem may be?)

I have had the same problem i found it to be "Spb ToPlay" everytime i used it if i stopped it playing i lost all sound on my XdaIIs and the SD card went missing. removed the plug-in and havent had the problem since...........................do you have this plug-in? if you dont then i have no idea sorry i couldnt help.

I have recently installed spb time but it doesn't conincide with my problems starting. I may try disabling it to see if that makes a difference.

this has happened to me before, but i didnt have anything like you mentioned installed, so it must be a bug or something!!!

I found on my M1000 that the card will not be visible when the battery gets low, most times it gives a message like "the power is too low to support the device"

Happens to me with my O2 XDA IIs. When I contacted O2 about it, guess what their reply was?
Reply number 1:
"Thank you for choosing O2!
With regards to your query below, you may like to remove your storage card and monitor the device. Please note that O2 Asia has tested with different brands of 256MB SD card and works fine. However, storage card of larger size may not work properly and cause the device to hang. You may also like to test your unit with another storage card to verify. Hope the above information is useful for you. Thank you."
Reply number 2:
"With regards to your query below, you may like to perform a hard reset and
without restoring back any data back to the phone, try to change the
landscape again and see if the problem still persist.
**To perform a full reset:
Warning: Clearing memory deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone
to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while
data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Before performing the full reset, use ActiveSync to keep a backup of your
Pocket PC Phone data so that if you need to clear memory, you can restore
the data on your Pocket PC Phone.Do not use Xbackup on your device to do
backup for your data.
To perform a full reset on XdaIIs, press and hold the power button, and then
use stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. After the full
reset, you will be prompt to recalibrate the touch screen.
Hope the information is useful to you. If you have any further enquiries,
please feel free to contact us."
What a load of crap!

Missing internal storage...

Hi all,
This has happened twice in a roll now... I removed the battery to replace my SIM card the other day and after reboot, the internal storage was missing. I couldn't get it back online and had to do a hard reset. Everything (or at least it seem) went back to normal after that.
And I had to replace my SIM again today and the same thing happen!!!! The internal storage is gone again from file explorer and all the RAM management tools report it isn't there as well. The SD card though is showing up just fine, only the internal storage is missing... Is there any easy way I can bring it back online??? And anyone know what could of cause this?? Thanks!
Very strange behaviour indeed... Wish I could help... I remember changing my SIM once using my PDA2k, but everything was normal as it should be.
Good luck !
It's happened to me twice on my PDA2K in three months.
The only way I've found to get it back it a hard reset. Thank god for Sprite Back Up.
This was once discussed and we narowed it down to being O2Plus version screw up. Do you have that installed? If you do, then a hard reset IS THE only solution. Other than that, I have no other reasons why your storage drive would disappear.
Yup, I have O2Plus 1.6 installed... I just did a little test as well, right after the hard reset, I removed the battery again and everything seems fine, the storage is intact. And then I do a full restore with O2Plus 1.6 being there and the storage disappeared again after disconnecting the battery!
I think I removed the battery couple of times when I have O2Plus 1.5 and everything was fine then, so it's version 1.6 that's causing the problem???
Yes, I had a problem with 1.6 and missing storage as well. I stay away from O2Plus altogether, but some members have had success with v.1.5. But just make sure to have a backup handy just in case.
this might be a little off topic just cuz i use a different phone but the same thing happend to me. i use the 4100 audiovox i presed the reset button along with the rocker button i got the boot loader.
there is an option to format the flash in there. after doing so it did come back. i dontknow if this will help you or not but good luck if u havent already .
Hmm....
I have this problem even when I am not running O2Plus....
I use Magician
Diamond Missing internal storage
I have discovered the same issue of the Internal storage missing, I have tried flashing it with the latest and greatest firmware and nothing appears to bring it back. It just does not show up when the phone and when I go to memory it just says that the Internal Storage card is not installed.
Any help would be fantastic.
I do not have any other applications installed (including 02Plus)

Cannot find 'Storage'

Hi, my xda is functioning normally but when I soft reset my xda, I got the following error: Cannot find 'Storage'. After few seconds or a minute, it would be ok. What does it mean? Anyway to correct the error message?
Actually, thats pretty similar to an issue I'm looking at. The storage card doesn't seem to accessible sometimes after a soft reset or after the device has been in hibernation.
Just reformatted the SD as FAT32 and waiting to see if it is still a problem
I have sometime the same issue...but I think is a matter of the internal storage and not of the storage card..
Anyone every come up with a solution to this? I'm getting this Storage is not accessable every time I reset now.
I do not know how close my issue is to what you are facing, but I had that issue when I upgraded to WM5 and then downgraded to W2K3.
The only thing I did was to run the repartition tool (Repart_DOC.exe) and created a larger extended rom (16,000 was the number that I used).
And placed the files (cooked extended rom 1.4.125) in the extended rom, and hard reset the SX66, and the message went away...
I do not know how close this is, but I think that extended rom has something to do with the "Storage".
One more thing, there is a distinction between "Storage" and "Storage Card". The above method worked for me to gain access once again to the "Storage" and not the "Storage Card"
Yeah I'm on WM2005 now so technically there is no storage. I've been running fine for weeks but starting getting this a week or so ago on hard resets.
\storate missing
upgrading to rom v1.40 doens't seem to fix this, i thought it would
i'm on tech support of more than a hundred blueangels and it frustrates me to hardreset the device everytime this problem occurs .. any help will surely be appreciated.
another problem, 'permanent save' causes the bluangel to hang, so we had to do away with it.

In the Extended ROM - Delete RestartRadio.exe
and/or alter config.txt so it won't be started.
just do a manual Restart (flight mode)
And now you won't get the error anymore.

P3300 keeps rebooting (endless)

The other day my P3300 was somewhat slow and I decided to give it a soft reboot. Ever since it keeps on rebooting. It reaches the phase where you may enter your pincode but when it wants to load the user interface it reboots again.
Sometimes I have luck and after 5 loops or so it finally gets into full WM5.
If I remove the SD card the problem dissappears. So I expect it's the card (which never corrupt(ed/s) on me).
Another option would be it has run out of main memory. I'm a little short on that one. Would it reboot if memory was too low?
I think a hard reset or format of the SD card would solve it but that is the easy way. I want to know the reason so it won't happen again.
HTC P3300 T-mobile Compact III
2GB Sandisk microSD
WM5 and updates original as a danish virgin
I installed the Artemis SD patch
I had this a few times and the only way around it was a hard reset followed by a recovery of the phone from SPB backup.
It always seemed to follow me installing software, but never the same application so I thought it had corrupted something in the startup. You can try booting without the card installed and it should be OK, then you may be able to work out what app ./ reg entry is causing it.
HTH
I rebooted without card and it worked
i put the sd card in my cardreader and defaced some .exe's in my autorun folder (the 2527 folder). Than it worked again. Until... a few days ago it started all over again.
did the same procedure but there was no .exe anymore in the autorun folder.
I dont want to do hard reset. Do you guys have any clue if i can see in the register what it tries to run?
it's defenitely one program doing this. It boots straight into WM5 and is responsive but after let's say 3 seconds BOOM there it reboots again.
Mine did the same, deleted a few folders from the storage card Program Files\ folder, think from memory the progs causing mine to reboot were CE Converter Pro, Pocket Weather & E Wallet Pro, but as already mentioned it can be any number of different programs, I didn't delete any reg entries, just the actual folders on the memory card, it seems to be a common problem I a very serious bug as far as I'm concerned, definitely one that needs addressing.

Xda Exec - hangs right after restart...

I did NOT (for example) changed/upgraded ROM. I just put new 2GB SD card and scanned some folder on it in Today Player for mp3s. It hanged. So I restarted it, aaaand I can't get to my phone at all
Sometimes it gave me message with something about Voice Commands (and hanged) and now it just hangs on Today screen - bottom "buttons" (Calendar/Contacts) aren't displayed on the screen, but everything else looks "proper". It just isn't reacting to _anything_ (I mean keyboard or touch-screen).
update1: I just noticed that Calendar and Contacts _do_ appear for less-than-a-second then disappear - and at this moment system gets unresponsive
update2: the message that sometimes appear is: "Voice Command has encountered a problem. Restart Voice Command and try again.". I googled for it but nothin helpful.
HELP!
Of course I will probably try to perform some ROM upgrade, but... (for various reasons - don't ask) ...I didn't perform any synchronization. Is there any way to backup data (most important being Contacts and SMSes) ..before performing any ROM upgrade (and assuming it will going to work)... ((
Funny thing is: I was postponing ROM update (from current 6.0) for some time, because I didn't want to loose any data...
Have you checked your battery?
Are you sure you flashed a ROM according to your RAM capacity? (128Mb or 64Mb)
Have you done a hard reset?
Please have a deep read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549207 (post 2)
Hope it helped,
1. I did NOT flash the ROM. It happened "by itself". the only thing that I could suspect is TodayPlayer trying to read folders recursively and writing something in memory.. (some kind of buffer overflow?) ..damaging the content.
2. I don't want to loose my SMSes and Contacts, so I didn't try hard reset *yet*. It's the last resort and basicaly I would be willing to even desolder the memory to get the data from it - even loosing the phone. (yes. everyone -including me- will now say: if those data were so important - why didn't you made a backup? that's why I said in my post above: "don't ask")
Is there ANY way to get to those data from software that boots from SD card? I mean - when upgrading the ROM - is there any way to backup other-than-rom contents to SD card?
Sorry to ask a simple question, but can you connect via active sync, or is the system unresponsive to this too?
I don't know what 'Today Player' is, but it sounds like that it cached stuff to the main memory (maybe making a database of music files) and has filled it up without respecting to leave any memory for the OS to use.
no prob.
I tried that and apparently it freezes cold within that fraction of a second. computer reacts to "new device" but then ActiveSync hangs because it's already unresponsive...

HTC Touch Pro 2 / Rhodium: Device lock bypass

Hello.
My HTC Touch Pro 2 encountered the following problem:
Additional to the PIN (for SIM-Card) I have also set a 4 digit PIN to lock the device, which is activated automatically after 5 minutes.
After accidentally deep discharge of the battery (forgot my phone in the drawer of my desk for over a week) and loading the battery afterwards, the phone refuses to unlock the device. The inputting device lock code, which is 100% correct, does not work anymore- no matter whether I type it on the touch screen or keyboard.
Even after several soft reset - not change. The PIN (for SIM-Card) works but the device-Lock PIN does not. No possibility to unlocked the device – it tells me always “entered code is wrong”. Even after connecting to a PC, the computer does not recognize the phone - so I cannot even read out the data of the phone via a computer.
On the phone are important data, photos, entries that I will not delete!
HTC has got - as usual – no idea of their own devices and the German support on the phone told me that I should buy myself a new cell phone - very helpful!
A hardware reset / reset of the device, I do not want to do otherwise the data all are gone.
Is there a way to circumvent/ bypass the device lock and hack the data in some way out my phone?
The emergency plan, which I do not want to try by now, would be a hardware reset and subsequent data recovery using the software "File Scavenger ®" This works very, very good with defective USB sticks and accidentally deleted computer hard disc drives (deleted system volume information etc.) . Unfortunately I have no idea what kind of memory, the HTC Touch Pro 2 uses (it's been no SD card inserted in the device).
And I do not know how the phone reset works - simple device reset witch clears memory only (which would not be that serious) or if the entire memory will be overwritten (which would be fatal).
Maybe someone has a solution and can help me, how to get my data out of my cell phone. Thank you!
If you have the data on the SD card, why worry? Photos, music, etc should all be on the SD card, not the phone itself.
Either way, I doubt you'll be able to recovery anything. Good luck.
If your data is on the sd card/sim card then I would pop it out and do a hard reset on the phone. Put it back in and hope for the best after the reset.
If your data is on the phone you are screwed. When you do a hard reset it will do lots of writing to the nand memory, and overwrite anything you might try to scan for data recovery.
I have never heard of anyone finding a way to get into the data on these phones when the pin didn't work. It is also the reason I never used that feature.

OP mentioned that he does not have a SD card inserted into the device. I think that is why he is so concerned!
Any updates there OP?
