I pray that somebody else magically comes up with a better answer here, but I have been looking high and low for the same thing, ever since I got the TP2 last Nov, and I haven't found any way to get a different BT stack on here

O2 in "possibly got it right with IIs" shock

So the IIs's (what IS the plural of IIs??) arrived today so serious playi.... er ... product familiarisation has begun.
First off, the colour of the O2 version is very nice (I think the II is looking old fashioned already). The case is ok (I'm not a case fan, I prefer to just lug it around in my pocket).
The keyboard is probably far too fiddly to ever get used by my normal sized pinkies but the blue backlight means that it will look good next to my PS2 even without BT turned on!!!!
The software seems to be up to scratch too, they've even added a decent battery life monitor to the Active and Today screens (The Active screen actually seems fairly usefull this time round!). Not had much of a play with the additional software, apart from those that came with the latest Xda II ROM upgrade ("phone Alison" ....... why is it dialing Colin??), but the GPRS monitor is a welcome addition.
Now onto what, for me, is the most essential part - WiFi and Bluetooth. Let's not beat around the bush, the II was rubbish for both, only really with the latest ROM was the II capable of anything like decent performance with BT Headsets and still didn't support Handsfree. As for WiFi, I used a Sandisk SD card with my II and it was a pain to connect.
Whilst waiting for the release of the IIs we've been playing with iPaq 4150's which have great BT & WiFi tools that even our execs could use!
*WiFi*
Turned the phone on at home and it immediatly sniffed my network (Linksys router) and asking to connect prompted me for my encryption key followed by faultless connection to the internet. Exxxxcelent
*Bluetooth*
My boss had a Nokia CK-7W carkit fitted a few weeks ago, oh how we laughed when the latest II ROM still rendered the II useless in his car!!!! So it was with slight trepidation that we turned the ignition on only for the IIs to find/bond and work perfectly with the kit at first time of asking.
So all in all I'd say that O2 must have actually been listening to us after all (despite not updating the website FAQ's properly since the original Xda). We have a few very good contacts within O2 and had seen a fair amount of info prior to release and received assurances on the above functionality, but I have to say that I didn't believe it till I saw it all with my own eyes!!
Now for some serious testing to see if it's beauty goes further than skin deep

 similar experience when my friend was trying out the Fonix voice stuff on his XDA II. We were in stitches at his attempts to phone my mobile (with "Phone Dave Mobile") and it either not understanding or coming up with a suggestion which was hard to see why it thought it sounded like it. It even suggested a number for my friend's expletive of "Oh f**k this"
lol, fonix is hours of fun for all the family ........... cos it could ring any one of them when you're trying to phone your boss!
The next big test for the IIs will be the built in BT phone kit in the 5 series BMW, hopefully one of our directors will be around today to give it a go.
does the bluetooth in new XDA IIs support audio through your headset?
it would be great if it did, but i doubt it
WiFi / gprs bridging
Can the gprs internet connection be shared out through the WiFi? I'd like my notebook to see it as an access point and use it's network access. Never got this to work with xdaII bluetooth and my powerbook, Apple's BT stack doesn't recognize the widcomm bt "server".
I'll buy one tomorrow if it can bridge the 802.11 and the gprs!
Audio through your headset? not sure what you're wanting it to do here but I'll list the options on the BT new connection Wizard
Hands-free/Headset Setup
ActiveSync
Browse Files on a remote device
Connect to a network
Join a personal network
Exchange Business Cards
Explore a Bluetooth device
As for sharing the GPRS connection via WiFi, it may be possible if you set the connection on the Xda to NOT connect to the internet, otherwise the WiFi settings seem to overide GPRS. Sorry not much help! Couldn't you link them up with BT instead?
GOOD NEWS though
Successfully paired up the IIs with a BMW X5's built in BT phone stuff so it's another tick in the box for O2
Can you hear your MP3's or tomtom voice through your bluetooth headset?
no

Hi there
great report
just a quick question..........I have been ringing o2 daily to enquire about the arrival and keep getting told that it is 'next week'........where did you get your unit from ?? I tried o2 Salisbury on Thursday and they told me that they hadn't received a release date yet !!
cheers!
The phone is out at o2 now, has been since late Thursday evening. It will not be in the stores until Wed/Thu next week.
just call up and order it. I did
Could somebody with the XDAIIs please post the extended Rom files.

I would also need them... please
I ordered ours through our dedicated o2 business team at the beginning of the week, as our commodity manager sent us the product code when the launch got delayed (internal pakaging problems!). The advantages of working for a big company with a corporate o2 deal!
Price wise we don't do so well on hardware, prob cos we pay next to nothing for line rental, I think they were 350 gbp each (ever noticed how u don't pay as much attention when it's not your money?), all "in contract upgrades". I'll double check when I get to work.
Anyhoo, a big box arrived on Thurs and opening it revealed 11 cool gadgets! Still waiting for the accessories to be released though.
I'll check for the cab file later.

How to do it?
Unlock extRom using the unlock tool attached.
reset device
Browse to the extended rom from your desktop computer and copy the files - zip them up and post them here.
is extended rom unlocker the same for Himalaya and Blue Angel?
It unhides both, but it doesn't unlock the Blue Angel. But you can copy the files out of the extROM once you can see them.

BMW Driver's Please help

Hi guys,
Just found this forum and it looks great. Anyhow, i'm the middle of buying my first ever phone/pda and have decided to go for the TMobile MDA III/xda iii.
I have one major issue that needs answering prior to buying it and hopefully someone here might be able to assist.
I drive a 320d sport touring 2004 model, this has the standard bmw business tape player but also has the Bluetooth Phone option installed by factory, currently it works like a dream with my Nokia 6310i.
So, my questions is, Does anyone know if the mda iii would work in my car.
I have tried many BMW forums including bmwland/e46fans etc etc and no one can give me a answer, i have also checked the X5 forum however its not listed on there list.
I hope someone can assist as its the only thing holding me back on buying the unit.
Thanks to all.
Roger
Well I would say to give it a go, there shouldnt be any reason why it wouldnt work. If it didn't work and you bought it from an o2 shop you always have 14 days return guarantee. I have a BMW 7 series but didnt go for the bluetooth option as I have the wired factory telephone kit fitted but just give it a go.
s1nn0n
No waY. The MDA III does not work reliably with BMW bluetooth. I've spend hours patching the darn thing. Sometimes it works, most times it doesnt. Somethings badly screwed up here.
stick the widcomm bluetooth drivers on the phone, I bet ur using the crappy microsoft bluetooth stack!
I had the Xda IIs working in an X5 with the standard BT kit, although it occasionally decides to disconnect. No such luck with the iDrive version of BMWs BT kit, pairs up but doesn't work at all. I can't really recommend it for use with a beamer, maybe after the first ROM update is released!
From previous posts on here I'd say the MDA version of the phone has even worse BT so definitely don't go there!
thanks for the reply guy's.
have decided to go for it anyway as i need somethng like a phone / pda.
Cheers

External gps antenna & driver for gpsone chip?

Hi all!
Every body actually knows about the trinity gpsone activate.
Now, the guys here succeeded to port the driver & put it in a cab!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294113
I understood that the radio should support it, is there any chance to do that?
+++++
one more thing
+++++
We have 2 external output for antenna in the side of the universal device. maybe it should fit & connect anyhow to the gpsone chip?
Any ideas?
Gil
Only the new Qualcom chipset supports GPS; Trinity, Hermes and Breeze have this chipset. Unfortunately Universal's chipset does not have any GPS ability (at least this would be a big surprise to me). Too bad, the Universal is still my favourite PPC.

Universal's radio has MGP6200 chip. This is so-called "assisted-GPS". But we need to patch radio to turn it on. And I don;t think that it would be well-working.

Man... O2 sold me this phone on the understanding that it would support Gps... they are soooooooooooo crap! Mind you, guess I should have researched it myself Still love the Exec though!
well i belive if it can be done...it will be done,,,,specially with the guys who specialise in reversing....maybe someone will have a look at the new rom release for trinity???? (is it) that activates gps

Thanks for enlightening me! That's really interesting... What is the exact state of knowledge? After a quick look at the "Internal TyTn Herm 200 Pictures Inc. Chip Sets"-thread in the Hermes forum I saw cr2 stated that the Universal lacks the GPS RF amplifier, but also - to quote him - "AFAIK, the radio on the HTC Universal includes the GPS-related code". That was at the beginning of the whole Hermes-GPS-research, so with the state of knowledge of today, are there any new conclusions regarding Universal?

is it possible to have fm transmitter software for the blackstone

hi all
i whas wondering ive it is possible to have the blackstone send a fm signal
a friend of mine bought a nokia n85 last week and it has the possibility to send the audio that he is playing over fm signal and i can pick it up on the radio of my car
ive this is possible than it would be nice and it will save me and other people i think a lot of cd in the car
let me know youre 2 cents about it
miniterror
i dont think its possible as u should have a hardware to allow the ransmission.
however u can find on ebay such a transmitter fr the blackstone
just search for it

Does Desire HD have a FM transmitter?.. I think so.

So, Im just lurking around with the file explorerer on my DHD and then I found a file named fw_bcm4329.bin in the /vendor/firmware folder, and I thought that maybe this means we have the same chip as on HD2 that got FM transmitter capabilities? (Broadcom BCM4329)
The chip can do it but the software doesn't exist.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD.
All the snapdragon chipsets come with a fm transmitter/recever

So, how do we activate it?

If there was any form of public datasheet for it, we could, but it seems Broadcom is not doing that. Probably need to ask them, and sign some NDA (and work for a major mobile phone maker)
But, have'nt someone managed to activate the FM transmitter on HD2? It uses the same Broadcom chip as DHD.
Anyways, I will try to send a mail to Broadcom and ask for the datasheet

Windows Mobile is based on Windows CE, i dare say the drivers for simlar broadcom chips already existed for that enviroment

Good luck with that. I was an HD2 user and was waiting for a transmitter software but currently it hasn't moved a single bit. I think I saw someone saying that they tried contacting them but they refused.
Have now sendt an e-mail, and im awaiting the answer. Probably takes som hours because of the time difference between Norway and the U.S of A
Any updates on this? I'd love to have the FM Transmitter
I always thought XDA-Devs could achive anything after my very long time using Windows Mobile
It would indeed be great to get access to this FM transmitter !
Any news?
Does some people are working on it?
What can we do to help?
Is there any news of the driver desi FM Transmitter for HD?
Sorry for the translation.
Amazing find! Would be excellent if we could use it.
But no news...Too bad...
