Does Desire HD have a FM transmitter?.. I think so. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, Im just lurking around with the file explorerer on my DHD and then I found a file named fw_bcm4329.bin in the /vendor/firmware folder, and I thought that maybe this means we have the same chip as on HD2 that got FM transmitter capabilities? (Broadcom BCM4329)

The chip can do it but the software doesn't exist.

If there was any form of public datasheet for it, we could, but it seems Broadcom is not doing that. Probably need to ask them, and sign some NDA (and work for a major mobile phone maker)

But, have'nt someone managed to activate the FM transmitter on HD2? It uses the same Broadcom chip as DHD.
Anyways, I will try to send a mail to Broadcom and ask for the datasheet

Good luck with that. I was an HD2 user and was waiting for a transmitter software but currently it hasn't moved a single bit. I think I saw someone saying that they tried contacting them but they refused.

Have now sendt an e-mail, and im awaiting the answer. Probably takes som hours because of the time difference between Norway and the U.S of A

Any updates on this? I'd love to have the FM Transmitter
I always thought XDA-Devs could achive anything after my very long time using Windows Mobile

It would indeed be great to get access to this FM transmitter !
Any news?
Does some people are working on it?
What can we do to help?

Is there any news of the driver desi FM Transmitter for HD?
Sorry for the translation.

Amazing find! Would be excellent if we could use it.

But no news...Too bad...

FM Transmitter Yet?

Ive seen many threads with questions like these but none of them have answered the question:
Is it possible and will it be done in the future?
Thanks
Ummm, no. The phone does not have a transmitter in it. Just an fm receiver, which doesnt transmit.
it is technically able to transmit but it would need to have that software written for it, the likes of which its taking to get 4g on cm
It needs power going to the antenna in order to transmit, as far as I know it was not designed to do that.

Umm, no. Again, there is no TRANSMITTER in the phone. If there was one, I'm sure sprint would have used it, and touted it as a feature.
the FM chip manufacturer spec sheet lists it as capable of transmitter but htc did not include the firmware for it to work, they also did not include an antenna for it to work (requiring a cable plugged in to receive signal as well) this was discussed months ago in detail, if you search deep in q/a or dev you can find it
found this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693253 it has links to some others
Well, this is turning out just like the other threads, some say yes, some say no.
Is there a developer that thinks that an FM Transmitter is possible?

The phone has the Broadcom BCM4330XKFFBG 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC/Baseband/Radio with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM Transceiver/Receiver. Not sure if we're going to have to be rooted to utilize this hardware but we have the internals to broadcast our music to our cars with our phones alone.

Hmmm....think of the possibilities. With a lot of states requiring hands-free cell phone operation, could this be made to work as hands free device for your vehicle? It would definitely save us consumers from having to buy yet ANOTHER piece of hardware for our phones, which can damn near drive our vehicles for us anyway.
Are there any in the market that has been tried?

Noone has gotten fm transmitter stuff working for any phone with these chips, even og epic had the chip capable of this. Probably the feature cause interference so it was not enabled. It would be a killer feature and u would imagine one manufacturer would enable it if they could. So native something preventing then if doing that. I'm pretty sure HTC and the chip company took it into account. Now it's possible they made some errors and a software update might fix it.
Can anyone tell me the manufacturer of the WiFi/Bluetooth chip and if it does FM too ?
EDIT: A ROM indicates Broadcom BCM4330 in /system/etc/firmware. This is one of a new generation of Broadcom combination chips that I've seen to be sensitive enough to even decode RDS with no earphone plugged in as an antenna.
The One X and One S are using a Qualcomm chip, which is a big departure from the TI and Broadcom chips HTC used in the past.
If someone could send a log from my app there's info about that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26102918&postcount=3
Thanks !
The H1S has a Qualcomm BT chip, the H1X has a BT chip from TI.
Looks like the H1V is on the older and you would hope more reliable Broadcom chipset, the 4330 is used in many other AOSP phones.

That's interesting...
So the H1S is the only HTC device with the Qualcomm chip then... ?
But then why does the teardown for the One X say it has that Qualcomm chip ? : http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-htc-one-x/6363151?seq=54
There's an AT&T variant that has a hidden FM app, but I'm not sure it's the same chip as the International H1X with NVidia Tegra.
The Qualcomm chip is the baseband/modem for the phone, not the Bluetooth/Wifi module.

A phone can have more than one Qualcomm chip.
Qualcomm is a chip manufacturer, and they make SOCs, as well as BT/WiFi/FM chips.
They've also acquired other companies, such as Atheros, adding to their chips portfolio.
This One X teardown: http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-htc-one-x/6363151?seq=54
Says this: "Qualcomm WCN3660 dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM radio combo chip (WCN3660 PFN634G6 A201002)"
And here's a press release for that chip: http://www.qualcomm.com/media/relea...ghly-integrated-connectivity-solution-superio

Here is something intresting, I read an article on wikipedia about bluetooth 4.0 and got to know that its actually a downgrade in terms of its functioning. Bluetooth 4.0 is also called as Bluetooth low energy, designed to consume less power from battery, and some of the major features are-
(A) Its speed is less than classical bluetooth.
(B) Its latency is less.
(C) Its range is greater.
(D) It is not voice capable (which means BT headset won't work)
Check out the whole comparision table and more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_low_energy

FM Radio.. anybody

Does anyone know how to enable the FM radio inside the G Pro (assuming ATT kept it inside). I know from past smart phones that FM radio ability can lay dormant inside the handset until software enables it. This was the case with a windows phone recently. I do know that the international model had the FM radio. I need to know if ATT removed the FM chip or disabled it with software. I hope some one has root ability to offer some type of FM radio on this device (or using the Bluetooth radio as FM). Thanks for any help!!!!

It's more likely to work if you're rooted though.
If there is no FM driver in the kernel, an alternate kernel may help.

Any way to retrieve the necessary programming?
If the FM antenna pin is grounded, as it is in most "Western world" phones now, nothing short of an extremely expensive and/or "heroic act" will fix it.
Do you know, or can you afford to hire, someone with access to thousands of dollars worth of micro-soldering and multi-layer PCB reworking equipment. And the skills to use them ?
In 4 1/2 years devoted almost exclusively to FM radio on Android, I have only ever heard of 1 successful case: A Chinese Android tablet that had an easily accessible antenna jumper. He used my app but we could never enable audio, which can be another huge hurdle.
Vast majority of devices use a PCB ground trace, that can be thick and very difficult to break. Then you'd attach a wire to a 75 cm or more long antenna/headset cable. Never mind the few coils or caps etc that need to be installed too.
TL;DR: Forget about it and get a new phone with stock FM, or a BT/FM headset like Sony MW-1.

I presume we were emailing about this ?
My ability to support a device is directly related to how much support I get from customers. If it's enough, I buy the phone to support it better.
I was dismayed all variants of the "normal" GS4 had no FM. I expected to buy one, but got an HTC One instead.
I'd be happy to get some GS4 variant with FM, again, if there's sufficient interest in supporting me. I'm working 70 hour weeks and making about the legal minimum wage here for those hours; That's nice, but don't imagine I'm living in app dev luxury or some such.

I think we can blame the US market for the lack of recording in most FM apps. I think there's some group or something that charges $10 or so for "FM recorders". And as always, US market effects often hit the rest of the world.
I think this is why there are virtually no MP3/FM players that record. It's a simple feature addition is many cases, so it's omission seems strange.
And only one company, Samsung, has (had) recording in their FM app on International high end phones (GS2, GS3, Note, Note2). And none of the US carriers sell/sold these International phones.
I presume that whatever groups demand ransom for FM recording have either never heard of my app, or figure I'm small potatoes and not worth pursuing.

Hi,
so I have tried turned off the RDS and it doesn't help.
I live in the Czech Republic and I found several stations with this problem.
The first was Country radio 89.5 MHz (Prague)
My phone is i9195 with Cyanogenmod 10.1 (problem is same on all modifications based on the same kernel) so problem is probably there.

My phone is i9195 with Cyanogenmod 10.1 (problem is same on all modifications based on the same kernel) so problem is probably there.

So it's likely not a "station/frequency problem".
This only happens when Spirit FM is running ?
Yes, if you can, try another kernel or ROM.
And send me an email.
