Update: The facebook support page has been removed, apparently it was not official after all anyways we got some useful info from it
HTC support page in Facebook
Update: will try to quote the most important/relavent issues mentioned in the support page so anyone can come and see what HTC has replied on them
Me: some people have been complaining about "pink" hue in the screen of the Desire, ... is it a general issue (AMOLED related)? hardware issue (some batches are defected?)? software issue (can be fixed by an update)?
HTC Support: this is not a problem that has been reported before but we believe this may be an isolated incident if you have any problems contact customer services
Me: also, some people have problems with "very" low sound volume using the headphone (and the loudspeakers) any advice on that?
another one, you mentioned the new update will fix problems with multi-touch, ... does this fix include the "axis crossing" problem found in Nexus one?
HTC Support: The HTC Desire incorporates the most advance sound system HTC has used to date in testing the loudness was limited to prevent damage to the system and the user but not to an extent that sound levels are barley audible once again it more than likely a isolated problem the updates fix any problems that HTC believe effects the multi-touch

HTC Support A Popular Question: Battery Charging and Life
1)it's suggested you charge your battery fully before first use. The battery is fully charged when the notification LED turns green. It is recommended to charge the battery for 8 hours the first time to ensure that the battery has had time to recharge.
2) Battery life may differ depending on how you use your phone. Turning on and using wireless functions such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi will use up the battery faster, as will long duration calls, camera usage, and internet connection. Batteries are consumable items and should be replaced every eight months to a year.

funnily enough, some other guy raised the issue of pink AMOLED, HTC had a different response to it.
Roy Weiss Can you comment on the issues with pink grey colors on the HTC desire? You can see it here:

Nicolai Spohrer The solopalmari guy wrote that the extreme pink was because of their camera settings, the iPhone was a bit blueish. So that specific video is not a good example.
Nicolai Spohrer [somewhere in the comments]
Roy Weiss Okay, sorry about the YT-Link, don't understand that much italian
The other 2 links still stand. I just like to hear a comment from HTC wheter it's a software issue (GMAIL is often mentioned for example or even the htc.com site itself in the browser), a firmware bug, or maybe even a nonexistent problem only occuring on some faulty phones (which can be replaced).
Stefan Dahnken I've also recently discovered the problem with pinkish AMOLED screens in the first batch of HTC Desires. Is this just a problem which can be solved by a software update or are there a lot of faulty devices out there?
Stefan Dahnken As mentioned by Roy Weiss before, there are a lot of complaints here, and its not caused by camera settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654539
HTC Support HTC have received a number of complaints for this issue and they have told every person that this problem will be fixed in a upcoming update the release date of this is not confirmed
Roy Weiss Thank you very much for the (very!) quick answer

Nice one irkan. Looking forward to receiving my replacement although I'm wondering if my replacement will/won't be from the 'isolated' bunch :}

I have just joined and have seen none off your issues i have no pinking on the htc white web-page and my speaker volume is loud enough and booming with my skullcandy headphones.
This might be because i have the 1.2 updated version fresh from tiawan
Can anyone confirm it fixes the multitouch bugs?

I've also read it's hardware related, however I can't see why it couldn't be fixed with software.
I'm no programmer, but just running a slightly different piece of code that keeps better track of the physical change on the device (i.e. the change of capacitance) when fingers are brought close together.
Or at least a correction code, that spots when this happens (again easilly done if it makes a comparison between the physical feedback), and just resets the positions.
I don't think its a major issue though.

it has been out for a loooong time, there is another device similar to the Beam was on July, the other one was on March
both are for Europe market
they don't seem to be very popular
they are from the 8000 family, although the spec are very close to the Galaxy S 9000 family

Just bought mine a week ago from StarHub (the official retailer for galaxy beam).
I second the subforum idea. How about starting a google group as well since the community is so small.
For those who wish to purchase the phone:
You need to place a reservation at StarHub Center before making the purchase. It takes about a week before your phone is ready for collection.
I was lucky enough to get it immediately because someone cancelled his reservation.
waiting for mine, deseperatly ....
i'll check with Admins and Sr Mods to see if they want to create a new forum for it
That's great! Thanks man.
nocomp: you may try bugging their hq at cuppage road. They might just have an extra handset lying around like mine. Haha
i ve bought it from a local shop in singapore, they were agree to send it to me to france.
still waiting for the delivery...... the singapore post tracking service, isn t much alive since 2 days......
i guess that ll be a change from my nexus, what i am pissed of, is that you can t use an app that use camera and projector in the same time
it seems that what has to be done, (part of find a way to upgrade it to froyo):
get gps working when projector is on
get projector working when camera is on
can you tell me if the galaxy beam has also the tv out like galaxy s?
best regards
herve
I have some bad news for you. Samsung has officially stopped software support for that device last month and said there's no plans for official froyo for it as there's just not enough beams out there to warrent the support as it was only sold in Singapore and very small numbers. They now have all development on tablet and galaxy s models. Google for more info. I read that last month someplace

hi
thxx a lot, that news has been goin on here and there fr a while, surely some ppl can adapt 2.2 to the beam model.
i finally received mine )))
bad news, impossible to install an application from android market :'(
never happend before with the nexus, i get the message "unable to download" either i am in wifi or 3g
any idea why?
herve
Hmm never had a problem with market. Have you tried replacing the stock market app with a generic one from ipmart? Perhaps it's locked down to Singapore or something.
Topic moved to General until and if a new proper forum comes into place for this device.
hi,
well i ve took sim card off n sdcard off, and then it was working over wifi.
put the simcard back again and market was working.
no idea wtf happend.
hi,
how can i know what software update is current?
my version is 2.1 update 1
I8520DXJ11
kernel 2.6.29-zeus1
can t find in the setting menu the update section
thx for your help
btw i ve found this, anybody tried it?
http://shomblingteam.blogspot.com/2010/08/samsung-i8520-galaxy-beam.html
My phone is running the same firmware version as yours. It's released on 1 Sept which is more recent than the July version on that blog.
hi,
thx for the news, so if there is an update it ll appear in the "about" section right?
do you know any trick/tweak for allow to run gps when using projector?
herve
Probably, but I doubt there will be any more updates since the beam is not getting froyo. Hopefully I'm wrong...
I'm not aware of any tricks but if you have the time and expertise try editing the source code? Haha I'm no expert either.

Supposedly use of the stereo jack aggravates the problem. I see this a lot in Europe and very little in the US. So far.

Yeah it would be helpful if you post saying you are having an issue if you would also say what version of the phone you have. US or UK or whatever else is out there.
Seems mostly like there are two hardware versions, but I could be wrong.

Honestly I only see the reboot on the non-US Motorola forum: three or four people in the UK. They are claiming it's related to loss of 3G?
i think it has something to do with specific SIM cards (3n or 5n). theres more info on the german forum of android-hilfe.de

Where are you? I'm hoping they'll replace mine as opposed to sending it off to get it repaired.
How long have you had the new one?
Less than a week and no issues as of yet. I have had two random reboots so far but both were when my battery was under ten percent. Only issue I've had this far is battery life but I think its in part to me running launcher pro and not rooting yet, and the fact I use my phone ALOT. Overall I'm happy though, so much so that I will pay full price for a second one for the wife!
I am in Germany. They wanted to send it in for repairs first but i had them exchange it on the spot. The second one is on it's first week now. Didn't play around with the headset but am calling myself every now and then to check if the earpiece still works
Must say it's a little worrying reading about this issue. I guess the advice ought to be to simply avoid using the headphones socket! Out of the question for some perhaps, but I would point out that bluetooth headphones/headsets are actually very affordable now. £20-£30 gets a fairly good pair of headphones, which will render this issue kinda harmless (if usage of the socket is indeed the culprit). Plus, who wants cables trailing out of their mobile phone anyway? Unless you absolutely need to use the onboard FM radio, you may as well just leave the 3.5mm socket alone, especially if there's a risk of breaking the earpiece speaker.
Despite this minor issue, I think the Defy is an awesome android phone, and highly recommended. Perhaps in the coming weeks Motorola will acknowledge this problem and sort it out completely - fixing the jack properly for future production, and maybe offering free bluetooth headphones to those who've bought a Defy with this weak socket/earpiece speaker issue (well it would only be fair, certainly cheaper than furnishing all early customers with new Defys... or would that seem to be a far-fetched dream? - help me out, I've no experience with Motorola's aftersales support! Lets hope they feel obliged to do the right thing for all of us who've decided to go for something a little different to the iphone/bberry/htc crowd)

I love the phone too, but we shouldn't have to work around problems like this. What's the point in having a jack if you can't use it?
Except I believe the radio (FM) will not work unless earphones are physically inserted because they act as antenna.
Looks like they're hustling with updates.......not sure how legitimate this is going straing to 1.32

Well, what could be included in improvements / bug fixes?
Improved battery performance
It is clear that new and new radio ROM HBOOT
Tegra 3 fixes
The data will be fixed to determine who does not know what I mean, CLICK .
Other small fixes that we'll only see the changelog ...

whispered says everything ... it could and it could not be true ... let us focus on the new update now im sick of waiting for fixes from them ... that will probably be my last HTC ... just have to decide where i will leave (no samsung and no apple) ...
I spoke to a Service Center tech, and he said this update will fix the screen flickering issue which in turn will correct the misbehaving battery. So i think that'll fix most of issues we've been having as of late.

I'd guess that's what they mean by "Teg3" fixes. Nvidia code controls graphics and the stepping of the processors. Tweaking the latter is what affects battery life and benchmarks. AnTuTu scores seemed to drop between 1.28 and 1.29 so we'll have to see what 1.3X brings.
It seems the second incremental update to 1.29 update fixed the SD issues some were having so if the graphics issues get fixed things should be in decent shape. The multitasking's driving people crazy but the SGS3 is behaving the same way so that might be something we'll have to live with. Now if assembly and QC tighten up we'll have nothing to talk about.
hopefully it fixes erthing
It looks highly dubious to me, everything on that page screams blackhat SEO. Probably just generating traffic past the link to their Amazon store to buy the phone.
anyone who's even remotely familiar with SW Dev. shouldn't be surprised HTC has different branches under development at the same time. So highly possible they merge something and release from 1.32 tree, possibly test until prod release.
who knows...time will tell. what sucks is that they don't provide any info whatsoever on changelogs

I want a good mobile camera but I've heard about camera freeze issues every 5 photos or so? Is that fixed? And how good is the camera really? I've heard different opinions about that! And what about that Sony forget about their "older phones" is that true? I know Z1C will get Android 5.0 but after that? Do they send out bugfixes frequently? For how long do you guys think that Sony will support Z1C? Anything else I should be aware of or forgotten to ask about?
I'm not buying any other phone than one of these so please don't suggest any other ones, thanks in advance and sorry for my english

Good morning,
your English is just fine, but your questions. Sorry, you can find all the answers on the net. Who knows now how long Sony will support Z1c? Lollipop is coming sometime in the first half of next year. I do not really know the G2 but for me that size is already too big. I have never experienced camera freezes and never hadproblems with picture quality (which is a personal issue I think).
Hope that help.
Best regards

1: Are you happy with the phone overall? 2: Is there lots of support from people on this site? I mean Sony will stop the support to Z1C in the future and it would be nice to know that I might be able to get the support from people on here for atleast a couple of years or so when Sony stops sending out updates/bugfixes
Thanks for taking your time.

I am absolutely happy with my "precious". Despite the fact that you better use protection from the 1st minute, it will satisfy my needs for a long time. As for support, I am quite sure there will be developers to provide some very fine custom ROMs for the device for a number of years.
Best regards

You won't regret it for sure!
I bought three G5 with 3GB or RAM for myself, wife and mother. The plus model was not available at the time here in Sweden.
All three of the phones have a very strange and in your face garbled metallic sound when filming video. This sound distortion makes video in places where there is natural background noise unbearable. Is there anyway to fix this problem? Am I the only one with this issue? Lost a lot of video of my newly born baby because of this sound issue =(
Thanks
same thing here, G5 3GB RAM and mic sounds like rubbish, seems like the same issue the Nexus 5 had, where the filter were too aggressive and instead ruined the sound. the solution was to completely disable the filter with some kind of patch.

Upload an example file to mega/yousendit/whatever, please - I'll examine it.
This is from the other day on my own phone. My wife has a zillion videos that sound the exact same way on her phone. This weird noise only shows up if there is background noise.
All three phones have this issues. All three phones are bought here in Sweden:
Moto G5
3GB RAM
16 GB ROM
64 GB SD card
Version: PVT1
SKU: XT1676
Build number: NPP25.137-15
Software Channel: reteu
Baseband Ver: M8937_8000.122.02.40R
Any clue on what this is and how to deal with it? Should I just return all three phones?

I also bought mine in Sweden and I have the same problem...I already contacted Sweden Technical support. Please do the same so they are aware of the incident. If you check lenovo's forum there's more people with the same problem.
You can contact them in motorola rest of europe (roe) section. I'm not allowed to post links :/
Cheers!

I'll call them tomorrow! Ericsson bought 50 G5 XT1676. All of the phones have that trash background noise when I asked around. I was given a phone but I bought two to give to my family.

They offered me to replace the unit on the mails, but it's obviously a common issue, so there's no point. Maybe they are more understandable on the phone. Also remember to ask if they know when is the spring finally arriving to Sweden
Tack!

Sweden only has two seasons. 1) Dark season 2) Rain season

This is what Lenovo had to say. I returned my phones. Some of the others might do the same. Unfortunately for Lenovo Ericsson was going to buy a bunch of Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptops. They are freaking expensive. That is not going to happen now since Ericsson is afraid that Lenovo will not back up its products with fw updates.

Just finding this thread. I bought a G5 in Denmark a few weeks ago. I've noticed the same issue. I think it's either a over aggressive noise reduction scheme they've incorporated, or a result of low quality mp4 audio bitrate for recording. Probably a combination of these. Have you found a thread on Lenovo - Motorola that I can find more info about this on? Cheers,
Damn, I'm starting to evaluate the possibility of giving it back and get another one (obviously not Lenovo). Screw them, couldnt they just release a update for it? I record a lot of videos usually and this is really annoying...
Thanks for the update though
Hey, looked into it some more. I used the Cinema FV-5 app and found that by disabling the "Automatic Gain Control" of the microphone the sounds are recorded more clearly.
So, the metallic garbled sounds are most likely largely due to an overly aggressive AGC setting on the native camera app combined with whatever settings they have on audio conversion.
Wouldn't it be nice if Moto made an update to the camera app so that you could disable the automatic gain control if you wanted to....
I talked to Motorola Support and they told me they're already working on it, but they can't give me any date. At least I know it will be fixed at some point.
I am on day 1 of my G5 testing, and yes, I also experience this horrendous "Finding Nemo" underwater sound, caused by overly aggressive audio filtering and/or AGC. FIX IT LENOVO!

Don't abandon a potential ThinkPad purchase decision based on crappy consumer mobile phone product lines. The business-oriented ThinkPad laptops are superb - I have three ThinkPads here - R61, T430 and an R500, and as a service engineer who ONLY deals with quality equipment, let me tell you, you won't find better laptop hardware from ANY company. The "ThinkPad" range is a continuation from IBM's original line of ThinkPads, and they are the only laptops fully tested, approved, and signed off for use on NASA and ISS missions - that's how robust and dependable they are - the stuff of legends. The consumer <blah>Pad products are not worth a donkey turd, but the "ThinkPad" lines are hot stuff my friend, ANYONE worth their salt will back me up on this view, it's a given - they are built like tanks with carbon fibre composite, glass fibre reinforced plastic, and magnesium alloy construction - not the usual creaky, paper-thin plastic crap palmed off on the vanity market, aka consumers.

No doubt the Thinkpad X1 Carbon is a really nice laptop. Its just the buyers for Ericsson want nothing to do with Lenovo now. Instead that department bought 25 'Dell XPS 15 9560' =(
Looks like the G5 is now has some ROMS! Yayyyy!
