.....allow me to do the first steps of the root process outlined in soooo many of these know hows.
Basically I start the unrevoked3 program and run the custom image and when I connect my Desire (after it's been put in debug and disk management mode) it hangs for over 20 mins without the unrevoked program being done or the phone going to the boot screen.
Please help as I am getting very pissed off with this method when everyone else seems to be having no problems with it.
My handset is Orange UK branded with the bootloader 0.83.0001 installed.
I.m desperate to root my phone with a Cyanogen rom.
Regards,
Paul.
Have you installed the hboot USB driver?
Sent from my Amiga 500 using Workbench.
I had the same problem mate, for me it was because I hadn't installed the HTC drivers that were packaged with the HTC Sync app. I figured because the steps said to uninstall HTC sync, I wouldn't need to install it in the first place.
Anyways I just installed it from the HTC site, then uninstalled the app only n left the driver.
Worked after that
Good luck with it

I dl it and opened it up.
The problem I have is that the steps I've seen I can't do such as having the option for update driver from the right clicking of the Android 1.0

Its to heavy to read? And to look at wat u download? There was a link inside the Unrevoked Install folder!!

u need to remove your HTC sense (leave the driver) and restart your pc. then at device manager when u go to Hboot on your desire u will see android 1.0 then update it manualy by giving the address from the unrevoked folder driver. then is done

You clearly can't read, I said I couldn't get past certain steps not that I couldn't find it!!!
That link you provided I already have and was following the steps until the one where I had to update drivers (an option that I didn't have when I right clicked)
If you can't be nice and helpful, don't post!
Oh and by the way, annoying has 2 N's in it!!
Here is a german instruction with pic´s ...use google translate

maybe it´s helpful..with kind regards..Alex
Thank you everyone, and I do mean everyone for your input.
Turns out I'd left the debug on and that's why I couldn't update driver etc.
I now have the superuser icon and all is well.
Now to get the Cyanogen rom and let the fun truly begin..........

Hi, I have a HTC Desire Froyo 2.2 with a HBOOT of 0.920001.
I've tried to see how to root my phone without having to downgrade the android system to 2.1.
I've seen some forums talking about the unrevoked3 that is capable of rooting my phone 2.2 without doing pretty much anything. :3
But in order to root my phone do I have do anything first like backup my software and other things like photos or videos?
How can I root my phone with the file reflash?
Explain to me as if I was pretty ignorant, please.
Use unrevoked 3.2, it will give you root without any data loss.

Do you still need a goldcard for this or can you use it straight away in stock froyo using hboot 0.92?
My phone is t-mobile but their logo doesn't appear on boot up, just the HTC one.
So I dont have to do any sort of backup on my phone if I use unrevoked3 right?
Just to be clear...I only need to plug in my phone and run the unrevoked?
And last thing...it says that I need to be certain that HTC SYNC isn't installed in my pc...why?
Don't know, just remove it and once you're rooted add it again...
As for backup, no you don't but it's best to have the stock RUU to hand incase you ever need to return the phone
you need to remove HTC Sync and install the modified drivers privided by Unrevoked team inside reflash zip(it's a link that says hboot drivers).

I know you have to install the drivers, I don't know what difference having HTC Sync makes, though...so long as it's closed from your system tray I can't see it being an issue

1) Connect the phone, run unrevoked, you're rooted
2) You need to remove HTC Sync, because it might want to access your device at the same time with unrevoked

i think they are just covering their asses to make sure you incur no additional problems. they just want to weed out anything that might cause a bump in the road. and therefore, avoid the influx of user emails stating "while i was doing something, windows open htc sync and made my boot screen the theme song to M*A*S*H and when it finally boots up, it's the XBOX game "Me and My Pony 2".

Is it a SLCD desire.?
when flashing did u use the custom file in unrevoked and added the clock work recovery file.?
and did u use rom manager for flashing custom roms.?
pls help
I have the led sreen Desire but it also works for the SLCD.
Just install the unrevoked drivers, download the software and open it.
Just that simple.
As for installing custom roms I use Rom manager and titanium backup for backing up my apps.
After you root your phone download rom manager and backup your current rom before installing a new one.
so should I use the nandriod backup before I root? Can take away the root by just resoter from the backup?
Is unrevoked also install some new recovery image ? Or it just give root access ?

Hi I'm new here, and I have two question: Does unrevoked root my Desire with Froyo? ANd does it make a backup or recovery to the original ROM in case if I have any warranty problems?
Many thanx

Unrevoked is a rooting process. It just adds a recovery ROM to your device and gives you Superuser access. If you put it on Froyo, you get Froyo, put it on Eclair, you get a rooted Eclair etc..
Once you root with unrevoked, you can backup immediately and restore to that point of time anytime.
If you put a Froyo ROM after rooting, you get a rooted Froyo..
Recently I was finding a way to root my phone with froyo. I found that unrevoked 3.2 was out and I was downloading it, the real version was out but was taken away due to some problems but there is still a test version for those who want to root devices with froyo.
I have tried it with 2 HTC Desire devices and it still has not worked, see how it works for you. Any ideas when the actual versions will come out? The problems I have faced were that unrevoked reflash program did not recognize my phone when it was connected to the computer. Any way to make it work?
Thanks!

Hey all,
As you may have seen elsewhere, we've been working pretty hard to bring you unrEVOked 3.2 with out-of-the-box, one-click support for all Android versions on the GSM and CDMA desires.
Available for Linux, Mac, and Windows:
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Please start by visiting the help page and reading it through:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
1. Windows users MUST install the HBOOT drivers for this to work:
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install
2. Windows users need to uninstall HTC Sync or any other program that might talk to the phone over USB (doubletwist, etc). Disabling HTC Sync from the system tray is not enough. They interfere with the root process and will cause problems.
3. When asked for USB connection type, select "Charge Only" and "Remember this".

If i use unrevoked 3.14 with an slcd display and bootloader 0.92 do i still need the custom image for slcd?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I bought an unbranded/unlocked Desire a few days ago, and it had Froyo preinstalled.
It REFUSES to connect to HTC Sync, and it seems impossible to root using unrevoked too (i've tried Vista, Win7 and Ubuntu). All without success. I have tried EVERY method/guide/tutorial out there.
So my question is this. HOW DO I ROOT?!
I'm thinking of using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
And then using unrevoked on the stock 2.1, but in that thread it says
Update:
The new version of unrevoked3 (3.21) can now root froyo ROMs directly, and a downgrade is no longer necessary if you just want to root and install custom recovery, although there appear to be a few issues with this new release. If you want to rebrand/debrand your phone, rooting won't achieve this and you can use this method instead. If you cannot get the new version of unrevoked3 to work you can also run this and use the older version (3.14) that works with Android 2.1.

So i have no garauntee that unrevoked will work on 2.1 either, and i'm not downgrading for no reason.
Does anyone have any ideas, cause i'm running out of ideas here.

Does it have a new H-boot that unrevoked cant do yet? What is the H-boot on the phone?
Does unrevoked come up with any errors? Have you instaleed the correct drivers, adb for it?
What is your hboot #?
Power off, press down volume and power on should tell you at the top.
Then check the sticky topics, at the top of dev section, as they have solved newest hboot problems.
Ps this is best for the q&a section, good luck, and sure we'll all try and help.
Desire is the source of all suffering.
HBOOT number is 0.93, take it this is too new?
The non-connection to HTC Sync worries me, if it wont connect to the manufacturers software, what is there to make me think it will work with anything else?
Don't quote me on this but unrevocked should work on 0.93,
Best is to get suck into this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146&highlight=unrevocked
And see how you do.
Goes through the whole deal with drivers etc.
Do you have ADB yet? because you can use adb devices to check to see if your desire is connecting to your computer, but as cjm1979 said you need to get latest drivers from the adb, but seem to remember you have to uninstall htcsync anyway to use unrevocked. But it should all be there in that guide.
But getting adb and drivers is important.
> Uninstall HTC sync 3.x version from your windows box and install 2.x version and then try it ( Important: Disable any firewall/antivirus tools when doing it)
The latest version of unrevoked should work.
Just found this in the unrevocked topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725738&highlight=solved&page=36
My HBOOT version is 0.93.0001
Follow the instruction to unrevoked,f after installed the HBOOT driver and enable USB debug, run unrevoked as administrator and connection "charging only",
the unrevoked still not start as follow, any idea?
Solved: I never install HTC sync.
Read all post found similar situation and I install and uninstall HTC sync. Problem resolved.
Never used htcsync for myself anyway.
Ok guys, i found the problem.
This is embarassing, But i forgot to uninstall DroidExplorer which unknown to me, was cocking it all up silently. Uninstalled that, ran unrevoked and it looks to be working, i'm currently on the ClockworkMod recovery screen. Yeah, all working now, and i should be rooted now.
Am i correct in saying that since the phone was unlocked/unbranded, i can now just whack an update.zip on my SD and flash it? Or is there anything else to be done before that (I know enough to do a Nandroid backup before that step)?
Thank you all for helping an idiot solve his non-problem!
I've uninstalled Sync, moved the drivers to system32, ran unrevoked as admin, ran it in compatibility mode, nothing. All required drivers/softwares/fairy dust is present. I really have tried nearly everything listed on tutorials. I've damn near broken googles servers just searching for a fix!
You don't copy any drivers, HTC sync installs in 2 parts - the program and the drivers.
Once installed, go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the program but leave the drivers. This works fine
Then make sure unrEVOked is running BEFORE you connect your phone, and make sure USB Debugging is enabled on the phone
One of the tuts i read said movng the drivers to system32 might help, but did it hell. I'm all rooted now, just installed TitaniumBackup, is it meant to ask for permissions 2000 times every time i do something? It just asked me about 20 times O.O

Once, when you've ticked the box,
Unless your talking about superuser notifications which you can turn of in the superuser app
Desire is the source of all suffering.
You mean the 'remember' box? Yeah, done that too but it keeps popping up asking for permissions anyway.

Yes meant the remember box, is the box always the SU box or is it a grey notification box saying SU access has been granted.

Hi all!
I was just wondering...
Can i root, or use some adb commands, fastboot, etc from like an asus transformer to flashor root some other phones or other tablets?
If this is made posible i don't have drag my netbook to my friends or work to flash&root their phones.
And if android is allready there i suppose adb fastboot ps neuter drivers are allready available?
My asus tf300t rooted hydro rom
My htc desire hd rooted cm7 rom
Both have an command prompt app.
So if i wanna root like an htc sensation, can i connect it to my phone&tablet and use the commandprompt fastboot to push the recovery and root to the sensation?... And why not? Lol
Thanks

Wrong forum....this is for Desire HD and not sensation. Anyway, the guide in my signature will help you as an insight for flashing and rooting HTC phones. Make sure that you check Sensation forums before applying something. The tools for the Inspire / Desire HD might brick your device if it is not an ACE...:good:

I have absolutely no idea how you would do that; if you figure it out, you're significantly smarter than I am. AAHK is so easy to use (as long as you read the manual carefully) that doing what you're proposing just seems unnecessary.

Lol i have no clue either...
But why do we still need windows, linux to crack, hack, modify our android devices?
It would be so much easier for me to use my dhd as an device that is able to root, modify other phones, instead of a windows laptop
I think that android is an full OS, so why not use that.
It would be fun to open the commandprompt on my dhd and connect another phone to my dhd and root it, install recovery etc.
I know it cant work..but why not?
When i connect my dhd with the usb cable to my asus transformer they wont pair either. Its to bad i really would like that to work. So i can copy my music from tf300 2 dhd or dhd 2 tf300 without windows or wifi.
