Hi all!
I was just wondering...
Can i root, or use some adb commands, fastboot, etc from like an asus transformer to flashor root some other phones or other tablets?
If this is made posible i don't have drag my netbook to my friends or work to flash&root their phones.
And if android is allready there i suppose adb fastboot ps neuter drivers are allready available?
My asus tf300t rooted hydro rom
My htc desire hd rooted cm7 rom
Both have an command prompt app.
So if i wanna root like an htc sensation, can i connect it to my phone&tablet and use the commandprompt fastboot to push the recovery and root to the sensation?... And why not? Lol
Thanks

Wrong forum....this is for Desire HD and not sensation. Anyway, the guide in my signature will help you as an insight for flashing and rooting HTC phones. Make sure that you check Sensation forums before applying something. The tools for the Inspire / Desire HD might brick your device if it is not an ACE...:good:

I have absolutely no idea how you would do that; if you figure it out, you're significantly smarter than I am. AAHK is so easy to use (as long as you read the manual carefully) that doing what you're proposing just seems unnecessary.

Lol i have no clue either...
But why do we still need windows, linux to crack, hack, modify our android devices?
It would be so much easier for me to use my dhd as an device that is able to root, modify other phones, instead of a windows laptop
I think that android is an full OS, so why not use that.
It would be fun to open the commandprompt on my dhd and connect another phone to my dhd and root it, install recovery etc.
I know it cant work..but why not?
When i connect my dhd with the usb cable to my asus transformer they wont pair either. Its to bad i really would like that to work. So i can copy my music from tf300 2 dhd or dhd 2 tf300 without windows or wifi.

Ok guys so.I'm trying to root my desire with .83 hboot using unrevoked because from what I read it works but it doesn't.
I get either " waiting for reboot " or "connect your phone..." am I right to assume I don't need a goldcard? My.networks orange uk
Is there any other method of.rooting .83? Except for unrevoked?

Three other root methods (at least)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah, most guides state if you get stuck there to make sure the hboot/recovery drivers are installed.
Rooting my .83 was a breeze, i coulda done it on my head.
Do some reading on how to root an orange phone. HBoot 0.83 is easy as pie, Orange=PITA. At least that's what I have picked up from these forums, and as far as I know you need a goldcard.
Always make sure you read more than you need to before starting to change such an expensive piece of kit. Seems you missed some steps.
Well. I've made sure the drivers are installed. I even tried it with a Linux live cd.
My.question was is there any alternatives? All the tuts point to revoked.
No need to be a prick about it. All I asked was for help
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
unrevoked works best on a mac or linux machine, windows can have driver issues.
You have USB debugging turned on right? And drivers for HTC sync and for android devices you need to browse to when you connect it? Are you running as an admin?
Turns out I was wrong, people have rooted Orange handsets without a goldcard.
The reason your getting responses that sound like pricks is because all the info is there, people don't want to find it for you.
Second time I've posted this today (no I'm not advertising) search for Root My Droid they have a good step by step guide for rooting the Desire. Unrevoked definately works on Orange as I did it yesterday following the guide they have.
Make sure you have the options to install applications from unknown sources, debugging on and the default connection type as disk drive.
Thanks for the help. Ill try and give it another try. I've rooted 3 desires fine but this is my first .83. That's all. I did enough searches for .83 roots on google. Most of the other root methods were talking about .75 and .80.
Ill uninstall everything and try again with unrevoked.

I had hboot 0.83 and rooted it from my Ubuntu laptop with unrevoked without any problems. Easiest root I've ever done.
i dont have a hboot 83 but i did help a friend do his telus hb83
the guides i read up on stated getting sdk for the drivers and all sorts of other stuff
i didnt.
what i told my friend in short .missing from the guides.
install htc sync then remove the sync leave the drivers part.
download unrevoked and extract the refresh rar/zip.find and run the hboot html found inside and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to have another go at using Linux unrevoked since I think my windows 7 is probably playing up.
Again. Thanks for the help.

Reading through to process of a custom ROM but noticed all the tools for S-OFF seem to be for Windows.
Are there any tools to do the same but for a Mac?

Bummer! I will have to buy XP and do the dual boot.
Thought someone would have done something for the MAC as the jailbreakers have done for Windows.
Just come over from the dark side having got board of my IP4 so purchased a DHD. Rooting it is turning out to be a royal pain in the arse

One thing on there it says to downgrade to 1.32 if your on 1.75/1.72
My Software is showing 1.40.61.2. Does this need to be downgraded to 1.32?
No need to downgrade.
I have a mac, the visionary r14 gave me s-off and then I had to use a pc because I couldn't work out fastboot on my mac. None of the commands work. But once you get that. Eng s-off can be done on the phone. And really mac and Linux are a similar, it should be easy, not having the need for drivers, its just all the people on this forum use PC.

So I have a vast amount of experience in rooting phones (done my own Samsung Fascinate, HTC Thunderbolt, friend's HTC Evo). I have been rooting, flashing roms, kernels, making custom themes, etc for the past year and a half so I know what I am doing. However, each phone seems to bring a new learning experience. I have read up a bit on rooting it but I am a bit confused at the best method to root this phone and flash a rom...any suggestions on a good guide/what-to-do? I was thinking of flashing CM7 or MIUI
Keep in mind I have a pc so I can do it on a pc but he has Apple computers that can dual boot into windows as well, but keep that in mind.
use unrEVOked to root. Check the stickies in the development forum
you'll have clockwork recovery after that so i'm assuming you should know what to do from there with flashing roms, backing up etc.

Yes you can use ADB on OS X, but it isn't needed to root. Just download the unrevoked app from their site, and run it. No drivers required, no ADB needed. Plug 'n play! (Phone needs to be set to charge only though, with USB debugging on)

doesnt have the right software needed on his mac he has old osx so cant do it on his so i will have to try on my windows laptop
Well it works on 10.5 and 10.6. So it's either Tiger and earlier or a PowerPC. I think it only works on Intel based Mac's (Leopard +). I don't think it's a universal binary.
I haven't had to do it on Windows, but you should just be able to get the drivers from their site as well. HBOOT Driver Install
In which case you do need drivers. I think they're packaged with the unrevoked tool, been a long time since I've used it though.
Rooting on the INC is easy.
It's not like most other phones because you don't have to deal with ADB, the unrevoked team made it easy.
1) Download droid incredible driver (easiest way to download the correct driver is to get HTC SYNC)
http://www.htc.com/us/support/droid-incredible-verizon/downloads/
- OR -
Apparently they're also packaged in the unrevoked tool, in which case just get it from there.
2) Download and run unrevoked:
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Follow the 3 steps in unrevoked and you're done. BAM. Rooted.
Also S-OFF is highly recommended (allows you to do more stuff to your phone and ensures that root will not be taken away)
I have a problem I can't install a Rom primexl error E: can't open/sdcard/primexl3d.zip why?
I Know You Can Root The evo 4g With The Revolutionary IO Website .. But Thats On A Windows. Please , Id Hate To Pay $250 Dollars For A Damn Brand new Phone Too , Have A Good Day ;D
I would suggest finding a friend's Windows computer. You can root Gingerbread with Revolutionary.io on a Mac, but you have to do it via a Linux virtual machine.

Was able to get it to work using Ubuntu through VMWare Fusion
1) Make sure phone is connected to Linux by going to "Virtual Machine" --> "USB" --> "Connect High Android 1.0"
2) Ran revolutionary through terminal using "sudo ./revolutionary"
3) Copy and pasted serial/beta key as described on this thread many times
4) Program froze on "zerging root..."
5) Letting terminal sit there for a few minutes, I checked the "Virtual Machine"-->"USB" and noticed the phone had disconnected. Clicked on "Connect High Android 1.0" again
6) It completed root and rebooted to fastboot twice and gave me s-off.

If you are lucky enough to still have Froyo 2.2
Since it is not compatible with Gingerbread 2.3, revolutionary would be your only choice IF you have gingerbread. Go to Settings - About Phone - Software Information and see which one you have.
I Have 4.53 -.-
I Cant Downgrade Cause My Main Version Update Always fails.
Is There Another Way I Can Get Froyo , Or At Least A RUU I Can Run In A mac ?

You have to get s-off before before you can run a ruu to downgrade gingerbread on EVO....so that won't help you. I recommend installing virtualbox and run Ubuntu. It will take about 30 minutes to download and install all necessary files, and plus, you learn some new stuff. Revolutionary works very fast after you have Ubuntu running.
I'm an avid Mac user at home but when I am away from home I use Ubuntu on my clevo p150hm. Both are great platforms and have their plus and minuses.
And also, a "ruu" is technically an exe file that runs for Windows environment. Rom Upgrade Utility.
If.you need help with any if this feel free to contact me via pm.

Hello
I've had my Desire HD for about 9 months now and i'm wanting to have a go at rooting it.
I came across "Ace Hack" in this thread:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
I'm pretty sure that i understand the instructions on how to root using this method...
The one thing that i don't understand is the "Gold Card"......i know that it's create automatically in this rooting process.....but...
Can i use my existing 8gb SDcard that's already mounted within my phone to create the Gold card......and if i did would it erase the data/photo's/music/files etc etc that i have stored on that SDcard ???...
Or......do i use a different SDcard and use that one instead for the Gold card and then remount my original SDcard after my device has been rooted ???....
Thanks in advance for any guidance.....
Yes you can use the SD card you already have and no, you shouldn't lose any of your personal information.
This is the video that I used to root my inspire4g and it worked perfectly. First follow the manual that comes with acehack, then just follow this video. I had absolutely no issues. Took me maybe an hour the first time, just because of paranoia, but if I had to do it again it would only probably take about 10 minutes of actual "work".
Also, you'll need the HTC drivers, so make sure you download those before you start the rooting process.
Good Luck!
Just read. It's all there. And welcome to the world of S OFF.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD with Beats Audio using XDA App
Just used it on my Mac using Lion 10.7 , worked great.
Read the documentation very well and make sure to follow the instructions.
The Ace Hack is a one step process and the gold card creation is one of the steps.
Depending on what firmware you have on your phone it is possible that you will lose everything on the SD card (again, read the documentation).
When I used AAHK to unlock my phone, one of the questions I had was exactly this one, with the gold card. AAHK will use make the SD card a gold card but once the process is finished you can use any card you want in your phone, the gold/a card is no longer needed.
Thanks for your replies...
I have looked at my phone and it will be downgraded during the process.

So it seems that i will lose all the data off my SDcard.......i'll just backup everything onto my computer first !!!..
I'm away from home at the moment so i don't have access to my computer but i think i will try and use Ubuntu.
It seems that once i insert the link from the manual into terminal it will automatically download and start "Ace Hack" once i select 1 from the Ace Hack menu.
Even through i'll be using the Ubuntu operating system and not Win7 i take it i will still require the HTC drivers in the Tools/wndrivers folder to be installed ???...
I would just go ahead and find out for myself, but i'm away from home for the next week.....so i'm just asking questions and doing some "prep" work.
If that's the case then i think that i'm now happy to proceed with this .
Thanks again for your replies....
I think drivers come with AAHK when you download it.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD with Beats Audio using XDA App
Yeah, the drivers are included with the "Ace Hack" download.
To answer my own question in my previous post as to wheather or not i need those drivers installed if i choose to use Ubuntu as opposed to Windows 7.
I've read the manual again, the way i'm reading it now is that it's a prerequisite that these drivers have to be installed no matter which computer operating system you choose to install "Ace Hack" with...
I've never used Ubuntu before, so i'm intrigued to use it !!!...
Cheers....
Drivers are universal and required no matter the system. However, just cuz you haven't done it on ubuntu before, I suggest wait till you can get ahold of windows. In my experience, knowing what you are doing never hurt lol.

..... i have to admit that i'm pretty familiar with running windows and cmd prompt's.
I have two Windows 7 computers at home, one of them has been heavily modified/overclocked and has USB hubs and all manner of other gaming "peripherals" attached to it...
My second computer is a small netbook, a much slower machine by all accounts but "untouched" and pretty much still stock after 3 years of use.
The manual underlines the importance of a clean enviroment in which to install the hack with, so machine 2 would be the machine of choice.
Unfortunately i'm away from home so i'm going to have to wait another week before i can hack my Desire ........Those custom ROM's sure look good !!!!.
Just one more noob question :-
Once i Clockworkmod installed is it possible to take an "image" of my phone so that i would be able to return it to stock if i ever wanted to ?...

I guess a Nandroid backup with the Clockworkmod would do the job, but im not sure.
What I'm sure of is that you'll never go back to stock ROM. Once you go black, you NEVER go back
I would suggest using 4EXT recovery.

Thanks for your replies djolebih & ordevski, can't wait until i go "black" !!! .
I rooted using the Ace hack kit about 6 months ago and haven't looked back.I did have to manually download htc drivers myself. Once they were installed it was a breeze.
Back up everything with Titanium Backup, then once rooted ROM Manager is great for you rom backups.
Once you are up and running, you will never want to go back to stock.
One warning though, and be extremely careful.....ITS ADDICTIVE ;-)
