[Q] Unrevoked 3.2 problem

Hello all,
I am having a bit of a problem here.
I managed to download Unrevoked 3.2 to root my HTC Desire GSM on the official 2.2 Froyo.
Ik installed the Hboot drivers correctly and when i start the tool everything goes well untill he reboots. After the reboot this message comes up:
"Failed to load recovery image".
Am i doing something wrong or what?
I have a .zip file with a recovery on my SD card.

I can bet you have HBOOT 0.92 or other than Unrevoked can't make

How can i see my Hboot version? Is 0.92 not supported? Will it be? Why are smurfs blue and why am i asking so many questions?

Power on your device with the volume down, the HBOOT version will be the third line down. If you have 0.92 than you need to downgrade.

Ah offcourse. So i have 0.92. And so it isn't possible to root my device on the official Froyo update (yet)?

I was under the impression that UnrEVOked 3.2 could root later HBOOTs without a downgrade.
However, the point is moot at the moment, because 3.2 was pulled due to some bugs, so that may well be what is causing the OPs issue.

3.2 Is indeed also for Froyo devices. But 0.92 bootloader is an exeption maybe?
3.2 Was pulled down because of some problems with 2 Evo users. It should be working on the Desire tho.

The 0.92 bootloader came with the Froyo OTA.
So, if UnrEVOked 3.2 is supposed to root Froyo based Desires, it stands to reason that it should be so with HBOOT 0.92, because if you've got Froyo with an earlier bootloader, you must've already rooted at some point.

Why, if 3.2 was taken down for bugs and screwing up peoples phones, did you try and use it?? Seems like a silly idea to me...
And 2.10.405.2 is HBOOT 0.93

It went offline for 2 EVO users. There were no Desire problems.

But it was taken down as it COULD cause issues for any device. Just cause it was 2 EVOs doesn't mean it won't kill other phones as well...if it was OK for all phones they'd still have it on their site with a note that it might cause issue if you have an EVO

Thanks for the confirmation 0.92 does indeed work. I removed HTC Sync execpt the driver. So. I did everything right. That's why i started this topic. I am clueless atm.

did you install hboot drivers w/o errors?
connect turned on and select mass storage mode. don't forget to have usb debugging checked.retry and post results.

One thing I would say about UnreEVOked in general is that I found the Windows version by far the most difficult to get up and running, whereas the OS/X version just runs with no messing around with drivers etc. I'd imagine the same is true of the Linux version.

I've used unrEVOked once using Windows 7 x64 and it worked first time - was VERY easy...I'm back to stock now but does anyone know if HBOOT 0.93 will be supported when it's back out?

Yes i did install the drivers correctly and connected my device in mass storage mode with debugging turned on. Running on Win 7 64BIT but that should not be the problem. I am willing to try it on MAC OSX if somebody wants to give me the OSX files in a PM.

yes it is said that it will support any hboot. i did mine yesterday because i wanted amonra's recovery. i had no problems whatsoever.

[Q] Questions about unrevoked method

I am about to root this EVO for my first time and want to use the unrevoked method. I am still a little scared as I do not want to brick the phone. Is it really just one click or is there some more steps I need to know about other than installing the HBOOT drivers. And also does unrevoked automatically flash 2.2 or do I have to do that also? Just looking for some more general info on what I should know before I actually go ahead and do this, since the website does not provide much.

Make sure your phone is up to date before you root. Menu-System-System Updates-HTC Software updates. You should be on the latest OTA 3.29.xx. Then you don't need to worry about flashing a rooted stock rom.

With the HTC Sync issue, is that something I have to uninstall on my phone or pc? I dont think I have it installed, is it a program or driver?

Download and install htc sync on your computer. Then reboot. Then uninstall htc sync from control panel but leave the htc drivers in place. Reboot again, and run unrevoked.

Leave the HTC Driver installer in place you mean?

Unrevoked3 issues

Trying to use Unrevoked3 to flash my Desire GSM, but I can't seem to get past the "Waiting for device" part.
I have installed the HBOOT drivers properly, and I plugged in the phone via USB and I have USB debugging enabled.
And yes, I have tried running it from Administrator.
As far I've read, these are the only required steps for it to work. Am I missing something?

Did you install HTC Sync for the Device drivers whilst booted and not in hboot?
this isn't dev related btw, please post those things in Q & A or general, thx

I have the same issues on my 0.93 hboot. Deinstalles HTC Sync and installed the usb drivers? I'm stuck at waiting for device

check if youe phone is listed as having correctly installed drivers in device manager, if so, did you maybe forget to activate usb-debugging?

As in the HTC sync must be installed first, then uninstalled. The HTC drivers is a requirement for unrevoked to work.

You can uninstall the software itself after installing it while keeping the drivers.
Anyway, the drivers come with the software so you gotta install it at least once ;-)

Thanks, this fixed my issue

Now that my Desire is rooted, do you guys have any suggestions on what ROM to use?
Just used the default one that came with unrevoked3, but I know that there are more out there.
Preferably one with Froyo or Gingerbread (not sure if its available yet tho)

check out what they offer, most are different but have lots in common as well. Gingerbread ROMs are not available yet.

[Q] Desire 2.2

I bought an unbranded/unlocked Desire a few days ago, and it had Froyo preinstalled.
It REFUSES to connect to HTC Sync, and it seems impossible to root using unrevoked too (i've tried Vista, Win7 and Ubuntu). All without success. I have tried EVERY method/guide/tutorial out there.
So my question is this. HOW DO I ROOT?!

And then using unrevoked on the stock 2.1, but in that thread it says

The new version of unrevoked3 (3.21) can now root froyo ROMs directly, and a downgrade is no longer necessary if you just want to root and install custom recovery, although there appear to be a few issues with this new release. If you want to rebrand/debrand your phone, rooting won't achieve this and you can use this method instead. If you cannot get the new version of unrevoked3 to work you can also run this and use the older version (3.14) that works with Android 2.1.

Does it have a new H-boot that unrevoked cant do yet? What is the H-boot on the phone?
Does unrevoked come up with any errors? Have you instaleed the correct drivers, adb for it?

What is your hboot #?
Power off, press down volume and power on should tell you at the top.
Then check the sticky topics, at the top of dev section, as they have solved newest hboot problems.
Ps this is best for the q&a section, good luck, and sure we'll all try and help.

HBOOT number is 0.93, take it this is too new?
The non-connection to HTC Sync worries me, if it wont connect to the manufacturers software, what is there to make me think it will work with anything else?

Don't quote me on this but unrevocked should work on 0.93,

Do you have ADB yet? because you can use adb devices to check to see if your desire is connecting to your computer, but as cjm1979 said you need to get latest drivers from the adb, but seem to remember you have to uninstall htcsync anyway to use unrevocked. But it should all be there in that guide.
But getting adb and drivers is important.

Solved: I never install HTC sync.
Read all post found similar situation and I install and uninstall HTC sync. Problem resolved.
Never used htcsync for myself anyway.

Ok guys, i found the problem.
This is embarassing, But i forgot to uninstall DroidExplorer which unknown to me, was cocking it all up silently. Uninstalled that, ran unrevoked and it looks to be working, i'm currently on the ClockworkMod recovery screen. Yeah, all working now, and i should be rooted now.
Am i correct in saying that since the phone was unlocked/unbranded, i can now just whack an update.zip on my SD and flash it? Or is there anything else to be done before that (I know enough to do a Nandroid backup before that step)?

I've uninstalled Sync, moved the drivers to system32, ran unrevoked as admin, ran it in compatibility mode, nothing. All required drivers/softwares/fairy dust is present. I really have tried nearly everything listed on tutorials. I've damn near broken googles servers just searching for a fix!

You don't copy any drivers, HTC sync installs in 2 parts - the program and the drivers.
Once installed, go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the program but leave the drivers. This works fine
Then make sure unrEVOked is running BEFORE you connect your phone, and make sure USB Debugging is enabled on the phone

One of the tuts i read said movng the drivers to system32 might help, but did it hell. I'm all rooted now, just installed TitaniumBackup, is it meant to ask for permissions 2000 times every time i do something? It just asked me about 20 times O.O

Yes meant the remember box, is the box always the SU box or is it a grey notification box saying SU access has been granted.

Its always the SU box, asking me to give permission, but the remember box is always ticked.

AlphaRev and unrevoked have finally released a way to gain s-off for the official gingerbread ruu update!
we now have s-off + custom recovery to flash custom roms!

also custom recovery succesfully installed.
only quesiton is, can i install custom rom the normal way, not that i get a bricked desire?

everything works fine!
i am back in the rooting & custom roms scene, and i can confirm that acesmod007 works just great! so probably every custom rom works fine on the new gingerbread official ruu and s-off'd by revolutionary!

just fill out the form after you download from revolutionary.io. use your serial key in settings --> about phone --> phone identity

zerge root taking to long +5min. is it normal? doin it with usb debuging enabled. or i should run it in fastboot

This is the first time that I try to mod my Desire, so I would like to ask some (maybe silly) questions just-in-case:
1) Do I have to do everything listed into "[Video Tutorial] Noob Proof Everything Desire Guide", or does revolutionary let me skip some passages? Which?
2) Should I simply connect the Desire with the usb in debugging mode and launch the .exe, like installing a RUU? And after that proceed with the points from 5 and so on of the guide above?
I'm sorry if I could have asked some questions whose answers could easily be found elsewhere, but I prefer to be sure before using a pre-release tool... And I am quite astonished by the difference from the "complexity" of unrevoked+alpharev and the simplicity of revolutionary... Is that really so simple?
