I am having an issue with the Contacts app. I am running eras2r e2 ROM but not sure it is ROM specific. Periodically the default list view of all the contacts in the app (Pocket Outlook) shows up entirely empty. Quiting and relaunching the app does not correct the problem, however, a soft reset does. Unfortunately today the soft reset fix no longer fixes it. The contacts are still there as the dialer accesses them and I can copy contacts from Outlook to the SIM, etc. It is just that nothing shows up in the app itself. Anyone else had this issue? Any work arounds or fixes? Thanks in advance.
Update: After multiple soft resets still no change. After a back up with Sprite Backup the apps functionality has been restored. I sure would like a different/better work around than this...

When i scroll through TouchFlo 3D everything works except when i land on the mail tab, at which point, Touchflo crashes and then immediately restarts. So i can use every tab except for the mail one. Apparently this has something to do with restoring the registry while the PIM.VOL is still active.
Is there a way to solve this problem without a hard reset?

maybe its disabled in the new update

I done that too, and I enabled large picture under the 'display contacts picture' setting. still no luck
in that case its probably an issue with handcent, itll probably get updated soon so keep your eyes open you can always leave a comment on the market?
You can add me to the list . I thought it might have been something I uninstalled, but doubt it.
Contact the developer of the app.
I got the same problem , only a few pictures works ...
It seems to work well with Chompsms, but i dont want those damn "iphone" bubbles
I'm having the same issue but I am doubting that it is due to Handcent.

I have my contact sync'd from Google and Facebook for HTC Sense on my HTC Incredible. Any SMS or MMS message I receive will show the contact image except the 10 or so contacts that I have in my Google Talk list. I have tried "un-linking" them but it didn't correct the problem. The same thing is happening in the original Messages application so that is why I am questioning the cause being associated with Handcent.
Any other thoughts about this?
I'm having the same issue. I recall I fixed this once by going into the contacts application and clearing the data. Everything synced up again.
OR perhaps I just uninstalled Facebook for HTC Sense and reinstalled it..I can't remember. Damn.
Yep..uninstalled FB from syncing, and reinstalled..takes a while..but they are all back in hancent.
After doing a restore and wiping my phone data, my contacts disappeared. I'm a little confused, because I thought that since they were stored in Google, they would reappear the first time I synced up. (I may have done something incorrectly here.)
I have Lookout installed, and restored from a contacts backup I had on there. While contacts appear in my dialer when I start typing their name, they don't show up in the People app built into Android.
Does anyone know of a way to get the contacts that are obviously being stored somewhere on my phone (since Dialer can find them) back into the People app?
Interesting behavior is happening on my phone and I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem.
Rooted my phone. Backed up everything with Titanium Backup (except the People app, didnt think about this time i started investigating this problem). I did back up Accounts & Sync, though. Wiped phone, flashed a new Rom (currently running Evio 1.7). Restored everything via TB. Now, all my text messages resolve to their proper contact. And if I type in a name or number via the dialer, the contacts show up. They even show up if I add the All People folder to my homescreen. But, whenever I open up the People app, it's blank. If I go into Menu -> View, it doesnt list Exchange there as an option.
I would like not to remove and re-add Exchange, only because the re-enables my company's wireless policy that forces me to lock the phone. Which I found can be circumvented by restoring Accounts&Syncing information from Backup after flashing a Rom. :-D
I've done this before and had my contacts show up. Not sure why it's not working now.
Has no one else experienced this issue?
Quite often (few times per day) when typing SMS, the keyboard stops responding for a few seconds then goes insane and starts typing random letters by itself, even sometimes holds backspace itself and deletes the whole message. I have to leave it alone for a few minutes/force close because otherwise it keeps on doing it. This only happens when typing SMS, no other app/activity is affected.
I have tried calibration reset which didnt work, and have also reduced the number of messages per thread from 100 to 30 which also hasnt worked. This is very frustrating, as sending SMS sometimes takes more than twice as long.
The phone has not always done this, just the last few months.
Running Froyo build 2.29.405.5 (latest one I believe)
Any solutions?
Has anyone else had this issue?
Well, you might first backup your messages, contacts and any other personal data using your favorite app (sms backup and restore on the market, for sms, and for contacts just sync them using your gmail account - titanium back-up for the rest - as suggestions), then do a reset to factory defaults.
Another solution would be to root then flash different roms, of course
or maybe try diffrent keyboard like htc_ime mod and change sms app to a 3rd party one (handcent or GOsms) and see if problem persists or wheter its keyboard or appliaction related

This is a last resort if all else fails.

The problem isn't keyboard related. I have tried Handcent which did not have the issue, but (suprisingly) I didn't get along with it, it was far slower than the stock HTC messaging so I switched back and stomached the issue I'm having. What is htc_ime?

I believe there is a program called GO SMS, or something similar, may be worth a shot
