Hi I have a quick question for the New T-Mobile Desire owners.
Has anyone tried the "Google Street View GPS Turn-By-Turn" Navigation? Is it still disabled within the UK?
If so, can you enable it by using the same method (pushing a modified maps.apk) as the Nexus One?
Thanks
Stu

Yup disabled, if anyone knows how to get it working and google voice too that would be nice L
Just install Brut's MOD and you'll have navigation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
No root, no hacking required -- installs as a regular app next to your existing Google maps.
Thanks Guys.
I have another question, does the "Turning off HTC Sense" that was posted in a Video a while back actually work in the Shipping Desire?

Hi,
I'm looking for HTC software (with windows mobile 6) that seems to be like 'stocks' (popular real time stock quotes monitor available to Iphone). Anyone knows anything like that? I need to monitor Brazilian Bovespa stock market index.
Thanks.

Did you even bother searching before you made this thread? or were you hoping for someone to just hand you what you're looking for? Is not that hard and it took me about 30 seconds to find some info on your app, by just using google . Start here. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...or+windows+mobile&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

Yes, I tried search, before post this thread, i've found many softwares for pocketpc, who didn't work with htc excalibur.
I'm looking for freeware stock software, who works with HTC Excalibur (Windows Mobile 6).
I think maybe anyone in this forum, already have the same issue, and can help.
That would not be the objective of this forum?
Thanks Anyway
I'd like to get a way to put the native IM app on my HTC Hero.
I am using T-Mobile and have unlimited data + text.
I found a thread about this but not really a solution. Has anyone been able to do this? And how exactly can I do it?
Thanks
Which native IM app? The HTC one (which is only GTalk afaik) or something else?
I use eBuddy which seems to work well.
I'm talking about the native IM app (The app name is just simply IM) that comes with the T-Mobile G1 google phone (HTC Dream).
I believe it uses SMS and not data for IM'ing, which is what I'm looking for.

It will use WiFi if it is available, but if not it will use SMS over the cellular network. However, it only does this over T-Mobile US - if you have any other provider (including say T-Mobile UK) it will complain that it cannot read your phone number from the SIM card. You don't specify your region in your profile, so this may or may not be of help to you!
Try PM'ing MoDaCo - IIRC he bundled in the IM app with an earlier version of his ROM.
Regards,
Dave
try this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600424
im using an HTC vogue with android 1.6 and it worked for me.
before i would get the same sim card error
thanks fox, I am using T-Mobile US, sorry for not specifying earlier And I'll try and contact Modaco. Cheers!
Interesting find cow like object, I'll definitely look at it and try it. Thanks!
I have just ordered my Desire from Mobiles so was doing some advance reading and in one thread it mentioned running the Nexus One keyborad to get speech to text. The only problem is it doesn't say how to do it, one post says read the other thread but without a link. Can some kind sole point me in the right direction as my searches don't find it.
Thanks
Sully
The thing is that even if you get a keyboard with the speech-to-text button, it won't work, because you lack the engine. However, it has been speculated that only the T-mobile version lacks this function, and that the SIM free versions will have it.
The stuff I read showed a video of it working and the handset order is a unlocked version. Will wait and see I am sure it will be one of the things most users want to do.
Thanks for your reply

What engine are you talking about? Everything is done on Google servers rather than on the phone. It worked on my G1, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on Desire.
Karolis how did you get it to work, is there a tut or instructions
Thanks
Sully
I used this on G1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 but I can't install it on Desire because HTC_IME is in ROM and we have no root.
By the way, here's N1 LatinIME.apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5830176 -- I'll have to try adb method when I'm at home.
I think using that method we should be able to install either IME.
Will report back later...

Thanks fella that is great, Mobiles now don't have stock even though the website shows in Stock so will have to wait a few days for the phone.

I don't have the phone yet personally, but a few people on here have reported that when they try to use the v2t function, they get error messages like "Missing engine" and "Your device does not support this function" (or something like that, I can't remember exactly what they were, but you should find them in the other threads on this subject)
I installed the following app labelled "Verizon 2.1 Keyboard With Voice Input" online. Having installed it I now have voice to text on the desire! It works best just with the android keyboard but it also works with better keyboard. I have not tried elsewhere yet.
I found it on the web site below.
link to warez site removed and then search for verizon
I have no idea about the website but the apk seems to work well. As for the voice recognition. The accuracy for me is good but not great.

I appreciate you trying to help us all out, but that's a warez site and you can get banned for posting links like that...
Interesting enough, there seems to be no moderators on Desire forum

works a treat for me thanks a lot, how do you actually use it to speak in the message app? I can click on the app and talk and google searches. Oh and i have changed the keyboard to Android in settings, it says when you change it "are you sure you want to do this blah blah due to keyloggers etc" and i have enabled voice input.
Ohh didn't realise it was warez soz..
Hey, that is interesting ... Dont you need to have "root" access?

@topic
what happens when you switch the sense off? isnt the sense keyboard removed?
Sense UI and HTC_IME.apk work independently.
I have triend instaling modded HTC_IME as well as N1 keyboard via adb, but it's a no-go for a non-rooted phone
You will be disappointed when you get it i had it on my old phone the Milestone before i sold it and its not that good, doesn't get all the words right and its slow.

i email HTC to ask if the voice to text feature was disabled on the Sim Free version of the Desire and this is the response i got....
Thank you for your enquiry about voice to text.
Well the device does have voice to search via Google, so it should do. The only thing is you'll probably have to install some apps from market on the Device, hope this helps..

So any one with the desire ATM does the above work? (i.e voice to search) i find the answer vague so i have asked for a yes or no answer to the question i asked. i quoted the desirehtc website where it states this feature will be available.
if anyone else has emailed HTC on this subject i would be interested in the response you got.
UPDATE
HTC have now resopnded with a Simple "NO" you will have to use a 3d party App.
no voice search here.
cos it's using the HTC IME, it is missing the microphone key that you get on the Android keyboard to use the voice to text functions.
whoever answered that at HTC obviously didn't have one to hand to check and was probably looking at the nexus....
Afternoon all,
After enabling the 'Voice to Text' as shown on How To Enable Voice To Text using one of the links on page 2 I have now got Google search by voice working on a T-Mobile Desire.
You don't have to change over to using the android keyboard if you don't want to use the main voice to text functionality, but now pressing and holding the search button brings up a pop-up on screen with 'Speak Now - Google Search' and a microphone symbol.
Seems to work fine to me.
works fine for me too.
Maybe it's coming in another update, this is from the htc website desirehtc dot com
" Android 2.1...
What's that all about then?
Launched in January 2010, and known in the trade as Eclair, this is basically an update to the operating system. In laymans terms, it's a sexier looking interface. But it's not quite that simple.
Now, for example, your Wallpapers can be animated, injecting your screen with a new lease of life. This works particularly well with the AMOLED screen.
Rather excitingly, it brings us into a realm where voice-to-text is a reality in all text fields. Imagine sending texts or emails simply by talking to your phone. Now do it, we're there. "
I'm sorry but voice search has always been there...

Here it is, tried and tested.
1. goto settings
2. goto text to speech and install voice data
3. goto http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UQC37DJC on your desire
5. download it
6. install it (you may get a prompt saying that you need to change your settings to allow it to install, so do so)
7. next in settings again goto language & keyboard
8. tick android keyboard
9. click android keyboard settings
10. make sure voice input is ticked.
11. go into messages and hold down on TAP TO COMPOSE
12. select input method
13. then select android keyboard
14. click the mic and start talking

Cheers mate... great help, 1 more reason 2 love Desire...
Back to my orignal post.....
HTC tell me the voice - search is available by default (i.e not installing any other SW) they say it has to be enabled in settings then it work when using the search key/menu?
any one confirm this?
Actually, I also got a similar answer from HTC. I'm from Singapore though. Thus, most likely it is an unlocked version. My question was:
"Does the HTC Desire support the speech-to-text function out of the box? Does it also support AVI files? Thank You."
This is what i got.
"Thanks for contacting HTC.
For HTC Desire, it does have the function for Speech-to-text, but it doesn't support AVI file.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again."
From this reply, it seems obvious what the answer is. But the truth, from those who already got the phone, are far from it. I had specifically said out of the box. But, as told by owners, you need to download apps and everything for this function. Just FYI, I do not own the Desire...yet XD
HTC says NO! to voice enabled in default.
hi all.
I've recently converted to Android and more importantly the Sense implementation on Desire.
For the most part I'm impressed but I've noticed that when it comes to "dismissing or snoozing reminders" the only option seems to be dismiss/snooze all.
Does anyone know of a way (either Sense setting or app) where I can dismiss/snooze individual items?
Thanks in advance.
Solution
Yes, use "Calendar Snooze", free in the Market, or pay for adfree. I solved this stupid issue in Android!
The developer is always available.
Enjoy

Any other suggestions - I tried calendar snooze and whilst it's ok, I've found it crashes too frequently especially if my phone is screen locked.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks in advance.
