Will post feedback as I play with the handset. Wasnt expecting it quite so early....
Congrats leoni, I would love if you could say about:
- The responsiveness of the screen
- How easy to type using its virtual keyboard (and compare to the iPhone if you have used before)
- And the biggest question, is the voice-to-text included in the virtual keyboard? Probably you may test it on several differents input type. Or it might need to be installed from the HTC apps/widget list?
Thanks!
I still own an iPhone, owned an iPhone 3g, currently (or until today) running a HD2 so I've got a good idea of what I like and dislike about each ;-)
Will update shortly
I've got mine too, just waiting for first charge to hurry the hell up. lol
Does it do video recording? Can't seem to find that in the specs...
[DELETED] I got it wrong
Can you confirm this problem?

Got up early so as not to see the dreada drop-card, not here yet, living in the sticks though! I'm gonna be so depressed if it doesn't come
mine is here!!! just unboxing now!
Just called T-Mobile (150, then option 5, then option 4) and they confirmed mine will be delivered ... ... ... wait for it ... ... Monday ... It's going to be a loooong weekend :-(
Congratz mate, ... big question, how much is the size of the SD card included, 4Gig or 8Gig

Aha!
When I watch the Tracey and Matt unboxing, I found the speech to text setting (see attached).

It is in the setting. Any owner can say about this setting? And test it of course

It is 4gb and pre-inserted. Phone is physically unbranded but has T-Mobile splash screen. Browser defaults to T Mobile Favourites page but is otherwise untouched. Software is pretty much generic.
PHONE IS SIM LOCKED. O2 card tested.
No Google Services setup is required upon first boot; straight to homepage.

Interesting that T-Mobile should call it the Bravo...
First impression of keyboard.....
I'm in love.
Goodbye HD2.
No sign of t2s though...will scrutinize now.....

Nice .. i see that the device is the "Brownish" colour after all
if you could verify wither there is a speech-to-text feature or not, .. you have to change the keyboard to Android keyboard though (if it exists). because the HTC keyboard does not have it by default ..
The Android keyboard is either removed or hidden as the Windows one is on the HD2. Turning off Sense UI doesn't seem possible by clearing data and defaults through the applications menu....Sense just restarts automatically.
I'm pretty sure there is no Speech to Text. I've searched hard to no avail, plus when I installed SMS Popup and pressed the S2T button it said it was not available for this device.

thanx for the updates mate, ... keep us posted about your experience with the great Desire .... any glitches/bugs/lag-ness (hopefully not)
EDIT: and also the battery life!
Mine arrived half hr ago, it's on charge and I'm trying it out.
First impression what a dissappointment....only kidding!
It's faster then HD 2, Iphone 3GS and hero had them all and got rid of them all. Very bright and responsive, very fast keyboard definetly the best thus far. that's it for timebeing.
impressed thus far.
In settings there is an option for text to speech you have install voice data which takes you to marketplace.

Ok.. so I work for a T-Mobile exclusive dealer here in the US.. the HTC representatives stopped by my store today to ask a few questions about how the dash and the MDA were selling at my store.. after talking and chatting for a while, one of the reps pulls out what they call the "T-mobile Wing" which will be releasing late May.. its a really slim version of the MDA with a nice full rubber keypad.. and best of alll, Windows Mobile 6..
I pulled out my 8525(hermes) and compared the OS's.. Keep in mind, I'm running XDALive v0.20.. the official release is very different than the beta that kypher released. Instead of the task manager being in Settings>Memory.. it's located in the top right corner of the screen where the "X" usually is.. instead of the "X" being there, its an arrow with a drop down menu. from there, you can close one or all of the applications that are running.. it will be something like this:
Activsync [X]
Internet E. [X]
Windows L. [X]
and so on and so on.. pretty cool.
ALSO, there is a bluetooth icon and wifi icon on the today screen, to where you can turn either/or on and off. Which is convenient.
Icons and colors, etc are all the same.. but there are little quirks here and there that make the official release different..

That task bar was in one of the roms that we had here (maybe AKU 3.3). except there wasnt the Icon in that area. I found it by accident. I will try to remember which one it was. You had to hold the stylus in the area where the X normally would be with an open application and it would pop-up.

I seriously doubt it.
THAT "wing" is the Universal, and the link you posted from the Reg is from early 2005.
If I had to guess, i'd say that the T-mobile USA "wing" is going to be the VOX.

First.
there may be a new Task Manager in the final Wm6, and a new on Todayscreen Comm manager. among other things. whether it will be HTC developed (likely) or 3rd party software(less likely)
"Neither one may be initial available upon the Herald release but in subsequent rom updates. or for purchase from the Marketplace/Handango." it is unclear. as i understand it MSFT is going to be pushing an integrated software ecosystem a la itunes for phone software cept integrated into the device.
I know that microsoft is really going to push this marketplace thing this year, thats one of the points I got out of the Windows mobile folks @ the vista launch event. we should see a much more organised system for getting software than what we have seen in the past. Im really excited.
Second.
He saw the Herald.
Third.
This thing is going live sometime during/after april

Tmobile May not end up with the vox unless the price point gets lower. (I have not heard anything about this device in awhile, it could still be coming) - it doesnt really make sense though since the price point on the dash is so low and the specs r almost the same.
fifth
the HTC wing is a 3g Phone and I have heard nothing about it since it was initial announced.
sixth
I have no idea why im numbering these.

Hi
Has anyone seen a countdown timer that sits on the todayscreen? I am looking for a freeware version.
The reason is I am off on a holiday in less than 3 months and want to know how many days and hours till I go just by looking at my phone - (without opening a program hence the today screen) I have searched the forums for a few weeks but haven't found anything yet (but that could just be my searching technique!!).
Once the holiday is up I would look to use it for other events that are coming up.
thanks in advance
Wow, you must really want that holiday badly.
Job sucks, huh?
lol, yep!!
i'm going to new zealand for 3 weeks (and visiting someone out there ) - going to be hard to come back after!!
I'm also competing in a Half Marathon a few weeks prior, and need to know how many days left I have for training at a glance. So ideally the today app should pick up on the dates from the calender and then display them on the today screen (I think thats the ideal way...but i'm not a programmer so wouldn't know for sure! lol). I've seen quite a few countdown type programs but none that sit on the today screen (from what I can tell - want to preserve battery life so don't want it running constantly which is another reason why I like the idea of it going on the today screen and the Touch HD (or mine at least) needs the battery life preserving as much as possible - usually manage 2 days before charging - have run it out in 12 hours and less though before now....and once managed 4 days before charging....but that was without talking to anyone at all!!!)
Still no luck finding what i'm after - searched here and other forums - if anyone has seen something that is similar to what i'm looking for, please feel free to pm me.
does anyone know how to program this?
cheers
count down timer
Hi,
Try this little CAB used to use it on my tytn but not tried it on my HD.
Hope it works, enjoy your holls.
(it works on the today screen so cant use it with TF3D)
install then soft reset, then activate through settings.

Thanks Jon, just what was needed and another satisfied xda-dev customer!
Edit update:
installed and running fine on the HD so far.
Have a great holiday. Hope she's worth it.
(BTW, whereabouts in NZ are you going?)
So do I!! lol
Going all over, visiting both Islands -North and South and trying to see and photograph as much as possible. Will be there for 3 weeks but the time will fly by too quickly before the reality of coming back to work sets in
My next task for the HD is to find some New Zealand maps for TT7 (in English of course) .....time to start another search!!

Hi
I set mine up by going to the Start menu (I'm not using TF3D) settings, Today icon, then the Items tab, then touch T-Day Counter and press options on the right, then just input the the date you need to count down to and press OK top right. (making sure that it has a tick on the tickbox) and it should appear on the Today screen telling you how many days left
hope that helps

If such a ROM exists, i would like to use it to brand my phone to 3 to get the free skype calls, is there such a ROM?
what do you mean to get free skype calls?
You would still have to be on the 3 network.

Sorry but perhaps you should be clearer next time about what you need and why.
You actually don't need a rom you need the software. You might be better off putting this in the general hacking section as I am sure all you need to do is get it from a WinMo based device. Not specifically a diamond.
Hi all, perhaps you may help out here.I have an HTC touch diamond and I'm in South Africa.
Now,I want to flash my rom as well to escape all the problems that are ROM related.I came across this rom:1.94.421.2 wwe,has anyone tried it and saw it is any good for a South African based HTC Diamond p3700.
Thanx

you do actually need to download the 3 skype software, they don't let the normal skype software use the free calls things
http://www.three.co.uk/Internet_Services/Call_chat/Call_chat_service?content_aid=1220455597804
the only way to get the 3 skype software at the moment is to either buy a 3 skype phone, or use a ROM that has the software on it already. i also have a kaiser which i have heard has an official UK 3 rom, but don't use it as my primary phone.
3 have said they will be enabling all 3g phones to use their own version skype software later this year though, but i want to start using it now.
nice idea along with me being on 3 - ive scanned plenty and cant seem to find anything
keep reverting back to the Sony if i need it but sim swopping is a nightmare

Yeah it works for the free calls. I left it running on a skype call for half an hour and my voice minutes remained the same.
I'm not sure if there's a 3 windows live messenger for windows mobile. Someone got a java version working but it's a little low res for the diamond. Works great nonetheless.

Thats strange, maybe it could be down to the rom youre using. Ive tried it on several roms and it worked fine.
The only thing I do is change BackupHost, CallURL, DefaultSKHost and BaseURL to http://mobile.three.co.uk/948, and run the program. That guide doesnt tell you to change 'BaseURL' which could be the problem. Do you change the phone number in the registry or anything else?

i tried it on the reconstructed 3 rom which was probably a bad idea, as the rom is a bit old now. i did change all those values to http://mobile.three.co.uk/948

anyway i am off sick from work, so gonna try out a few different roms
annoying thing is, it did actually work. but when i exited, it just reverted the settings back to the defaults.
btw, which roms have u tried it on?
edit: yesssss, got it working again, using shifus latest rom.

Thats great that its working now. The link I provided had a different number to the one that came up in my registry so I think 3 changed it, therefore it wouldve been a bad idea to change the number in your registry.
I tried it on Nataly 2.4, Shaks 4.20 and several Energyroms. I think some roms revert the registry back to default after soft resets.
just as an aside, i recently bought a skypephone (S2), this is before i found out i could use iskoot on any WM6 phone.
the version on the S2 is 2.9.18. it doesn't appear to be a java app, but the voice quality is a lot lower than what i get on Windows XP Skype.
is the latest WM Iskoot version the 1.1 version? has anyone tried signing up through their form to see if they have updated it at all? i might give that a try...
3 have stated on their website that they will soon make the skype software available to all 3g users. i'm guessing they are going to do this using java, as how else would they be able to support the myriad phones OSes out there?
edit: looks like 1.1 is the latest....
I just got a TP2 today, one little annoying thing is that it doesn't wake up when I slide out the keyboard.
There must be a setting for this surely? I can't find one anywhere though!
I have a Vodafone UK handset if this makes a difference, looks like they just skinned the touch flo comparing it to my wwe HD.
my does wake up, so I don't know what yours does not.. think what you've installed.
I've only copied my contacts over and used SMS... That's it nothing installed!
I even did a master reset and it didn't work 'out the box'.
Does the screen auto rotate if you have the phone switched on?
No mine doesn't open when I slide the keyboard out either. Also Vodafone
This is what someone from Voda said on their forum:

I responded saying it was not the case with HTC ROM, waiting for a reply now from them.
Surely there is a registry hack we can do to enable this? It's a really minor thing really but it's occasionally useful.
I noticed there is no YouTube player on the Voda ROM either, they've removed it for some reason!

Thanks very much!!!
I haven't figured out how to do anything except insert the battery and sim but WOW .. My totally honest first impression is maybe I like it as well or better than my iphone .. That is saying A LOT !!!
If you like it already, just wait until you figure out how to turn it on!
And of course when you start flashing ROMS and so forth...
It is better than the iPhone yes, but it is an entirely different beast. Don't expect it to run perfectly stock. If you spend a little time hacking it you can get it to run almost exactly how you'd like it to.
And really, isn't hacking half the fun of owning a WinMo phone? I think so. Even after I have my phone set up perfectly on one ROM, the urge to reflash is so strong that I can only hold out for a month, maybe two at most, until I start all over again. Yay.
congrats! Once you start figuring your way around the phone be sure to visit this thread full of great apps:

If you have any questions you know who to call ghostbusters!
enjoy your new phone
That thread that burton gave you is definitely the best place to start, to learn about all sorts of things you can do with and to your new fav gadget.
Installing apps and tweaks to your phone is usually a simple matter of obtaining a .cab file for whatever you want to install, copy the .cab to your phone (to a file on the SD card is best, so you can leave them there for future re-use), and clicking on the .cab to run it. Once you're comfortable doing that, I would highly recommend running the two cabs I've attached here, they're a good idea for any new TP2 owner; they improve the native memory management in the phone, and free up memory much better once apps are done using it, and they'll go a long way towards making your whole experience better (without them, your memory use will keep creeping up on you until you reset).

You are so right. I have the HTC Shift pretty much since it came to the USA .. I bought one - unleashed FULL WinMo .. sold it .. then missed it and bought another. I have Full WinMo and Phone on it .. I think all I need is blue-tooth on the WinMo side and for WinMo to recognize a memory card. Pretty sure neither of those hacks have been worked out. I can wait!!
PS .. thanks for the link and the files as well .. First thing I am going to do is sync my contacts .. then PLAY ..
Well the Shift is an even more different beast. That thing really is a mini-computer. Not sure how great of a phone it would make.
Anyone know if HTC is planning on coming out with a successor to the Shift?
The shift is for sure a computer. I have Win7 on it and WinMo 6 I think .. There is no bluetooth on the phone side so voice comes out of the speaker. If you held it up to your head it would look ridiculous.
Still ... it is nice to have a phone in it, only because you can

That is partialy correct. It actually brings up your call log. To pull up a number from your contacts just start typing on the keypads (either the number i.e 818 555 1234 or the name ie. Dad = 323). You can also click the all contacts button and go to a pure list of contacts, which you can then scroll through with the touch screen.
