Because O2 starts charging the 0845 and 0844 number, I had cancelled my o2 contract, and changed to Pay And Go.
But the previous GPRS setting prevents me to get access to the internet. After I hard-reset the O2 WM6 system, and run the O2 Operator Settings, still no luck.
I quite sure that my number can access to GPRS system, as I received a txt from O2 saying that I have 5M browsing allowance this month.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks !!!
You can't browse the internet on O2 Pay as you go. The only company that allows it on PAYG is Orange as far as I know.
you should be able to go on the internet on any network, payg or contract... it just usually costs a lot on payg.

I thought so too, but just not able to get around it, yet.......
what carphead said in effect is correct "You can't browse the internet on O2 Pay as you go. The only company that allows it on PAYG is Orange as far as I know."
with O2 PayAsYouGo and xda's, pda's whatever you wana call them, you cannot access the worldwide web. you can access wap sites, i.e. wap.google.com, but you have to put WSP:// instead of http://. for example WSP://wap.google.com. by entering wsp:// it then uses the wap connection which is under My Work Network in connection settings and not the mobile web connection under My ISP. the problem is there isn't that many wap sites you can access with the XDA's.

i can view normal websites... but sometimes the site realises i'm on a mobile, and automatically forwards to their mobile version. for example www.google.co.uk automatically forwards to www.google.co.uk/m
it can be done
Connecting a Windows Mobile 5/6 device to O2 Prepay (touchscreen devices only)
Please note that these settings are only for touch screen windows mobile devices (there is currently no support for non-touch screen devices). Please also note that only Mobile Internet Explorer will work with these settings, you will not be able to use or access Mobile MSN or Outlook as these are not supported.
• Go to Start > Settings > Connections > Advanced (Tab) > Select Networks (Button)
• You should now be on a screen titled “Network Management”. Now select both drop boxes to “My Work Network” then tap OK
• You now need to tap the Tasks tab and then the “Manage existing connections” link
• From here, tap the New button
• Name the new connection “O2 GPRS” and select modem as “Cellular Line (GPRS)” then tap Next
• You will now asked for the Access point name, here you should enter: “payandgo.o2.co.uk”, then tap Next
• You will now be asked for the username and password. The username is “payandgo”, and the password is “password”
• Ignore the Domain box and ignore the Advanced button, just tap Finish
• You will now be presented with a screen with your connections listed. Simply tap “O2 GPRS”. (There will now be a dot besides the name “O2 GPRS”. There may be other connections, you can delete if you wish. You also may have an “Auto pick” option, do not select this)
• You now need to tap the Proxy Settings tab
• On this screen you need to make sure that both the “This network connects to the Internet”, and “This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet” tick boxes are both ticked
• In the Proxy server box below the tick boxes, enter: “193.113.200.195”
• Now tap the “Advanced” button
• Tap HTTP, enter server as “193.113.200.195”, port: “8080”, tap OK
• Tap WAP, enter server as ”193.113.200.195”, port: “9201”, tap OK.
• Leave Secure WAP blank (if there is anything in this entry, delete it)
• Tap Socks, enter server as “193.113.200.195”, port: “1080” and the type as “Socks 4”, then tap OK
• Tap OK 3 more times. Then tap X
• Now launch Mobile Internet Explorer to test the new settings
As far as my testing goes your not restricted to WAP sites, I was able to use full google, and and also access a few forums with no problems.
I hope this helps.
Cheers, Kev

gprs settings
Thanks Mate you are a life saver i have been looking for them all over
I'm glad to be of assistance. I've always been a eager reader on these forums and it's nice to post something thats helpfull. It only took me around an hour a half to get these settings working! I needed them myself so i could use my O2 payg sim in my Orbit, and being without gprs was getting annoying so had to get it working. And so I did. It all seems a bit complicated but all the steps are nessesary. And I am still trying to find out if outlook can be made to work.
Anyway cheers all

And t-mobile and the 3 network, its just o2 who wont let you access the net. But i am wondering now, if it is worth paying the 7.50 a month to O2 for the mobile web bolt on

I don't know, mate. But from the settings above, I doubt that you can use Outlook, though I very much like to able to use it too. Becoz from the settings above, you route the internet though a proxy, and outlook itself use a different port which hasn't set in the proxy.
Those settings work for Exchange Activesync too
Good work there, sir.
On a WM6 Pocket PC (sorry - "Professional") I applied the settings you provided, killed the wifi radio and did a send/receive in Pocket Outlook.
It worked. So much for O2's odd attempts to push data users into the contract world.
So, thank you very much. Kudos.
is Outlook part of the Office set of programs... i havent got it on mine, but it would be very useful
Pocket Outlook = Standard Windows Mobile Email client
Sorry, I was using an archaic term there.
What I meant was setting up an Exchange ActiveSync partnership between my Exchange server and my Windows Mobile device, using the built-in bog-standard Microsoft messaging app.
I'd just like to say a huge thanks to kosborn2 for posting those 02 settings, I'd been resigned to being unable to have GPRS on my 02 Exec because I'm a lowly Pay as You Go customer! Every now and again I'd have a quick look on the internet but it was usually the same wrong settings. Well done that man, you've made my day.
From experience o2 do try and restrict some pag customer to some sites a trick work round o2s restrictions and save time and data usage is on you pc (not ppc) right mouse click on the part of the page you want to view i.e. http://charts.moneyam.com/Chart.asp...SV=0&YFormat=g&XFormat=hh&Fix=1&E=UK&Code=UKX
Save to ppc favorites and it should work
Magic!
I've put a PaG O2 card in my old Himalaya (flashed to WM5) with my contract card in my Artemis, and now my wife can use it for GPRS thanks to thoose settings.
Thanks very much
thanks a lot for the settings, this is the only place i could find these settings, o2's website is no help whatsoever. without wanting to hijack the thread have u ever got mms working? i upgraded windows mobile and dont have the o2 active add on bits so i was wondering how i could send/recieve mms? thanks a lot again.
Hi all,
I'm using WM6 on my backup device, the XDA Orbit and have a few annoying niggles. Can anyone advise on the below?
1) I have 2 hotmail accounts - one personal, one business. I would like to have visibility of both in my messages window. To my knowledge, I can only use one at a time and have to switch accounts via Windows Live each time I want to view emails. Is there a way you can have both?
2) I can't seem to syncronise the new folders on the POP3 account I have. Is there a way? It's an O2 account. When I create a new folder on the XDA, it doesn't show when I log in via webpage & vice versa.
3) I'd like to be able to edit the caller display when someone calls. When a contact information is filled out in detail (i.e company, job title etc.), some of the information appears on the incoming caller display bubble. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo. Possible? Fussy I know
4) In WM5, you used to be able to turn WIFI on AND off via the GPRS icon (next to the phone signal icon/speaker/clock). In WM6, it seems you can only turn it on. I know it's lazy as the Comms Manager in the 'System Tray' is only a few taps away but is there anyway to resurrect the WM5 functionality or provide a link to a 3rd party app/plugin?
5) And finally...I'd also like a bluetooth plugin on the system tray for quick access - any links?
Thanks in advance,
GW
Q1 - 2 live mail accounts can be done by setting up 2nd account as POP3 but apparently you need a yearly MSN subscription to be able to use this. Will just make do with the one account!
Q2 - Been advised to set the account type to IMAP4 to be able to sync new folders although this doesn't seem to work with an O2 email account. Can live without it though.
Q3,Q4,Q5 - Appreciate these will require registry changes - does anyone know what strings/values to edit?
Q1: I have my hotmail via a outlook plugin called httpmail. I guess it would work also with two hotmail accounts.
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=225779
Thanks, will check it out.
re: Q2, I don't think the sync can be done on POP3 accounts. Under Messaging > Account i.e. O2 > Tools > Manage Folders, when you click & hold on the new folder that's been created the only options are 'New Folder', 'Delete' or 'Rename'. There is 'Folder Options' but it's greyed out. There are no tick boxes next to the folder like there is for syncing a folder in the Windows Live account.
I've given up on Q4 but I'd really like to fix Q3 if possible, surely just a small registry change required there...just a case of finding what to edit! Anyone help with this?
230 views - come on, who can rise to the challenge of finding a fix for me
Just to summarise question:
is there a way (registry, 3rd party app. etc.) you can edit the details on the incoming caller display bubble. For example, when the 'company' field data is entered on a phone contact, it shows under the name & number when someone calls. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo, no other info.
Is this possible?

Hey I am trying to figure out how to delete an email acc from tf3d but cant find it. I searched the forum but nothing there. I used to be able to do it simply in account management but the option for "delete account" has vanished.
Any help?

Do you have an Outlook account and activeSync on your computer? Delete the Outlook account on your computer and the email account on THD will be deleted too.
I'm using a new Rhodium rom.
Go to Email Tab in TF3D > Menu > Accounts > Delete Account
If you can't delete it in TF3D then try directly in the messaging app. Then TF3D will see it is not longer there !

Well I am using the standard ROM the fone came with cos i have not had any probs with it. Anyway i do not have any option that says "delete account". It used to be there but has now vanished.
I have even looked in settings and there is nothing there!!!! Any other solutions??
Ive been trying for ages to try and set up push and pull Email on my device.
Ive been trying for weeks now with no luck.
Is it even possible to get push and pull email with my Hotmail account and my HTC HD?
Hello
Yes its possible and for free .
Try this service here.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It works very well and its free.
Enjoy!
Hi There!!
Thanks so much for that!! Ive downloaded it and its all working brilliantly.
Exactly what i was looking for......
Ive only got one question-
to recieve Emails to my WM device, is my device constantly roaming to recieve them, or is my Email only triggered and sent to my device by the SMS?
In other words, is it costing me (constant) roaming time to keep this app running?
hotmail accounts
Hi, im not sure if this will help but use the following method for your mail accounts. Hope it helps. Goto mail and settings then new accounts.
Where example1 etc is written enter your actual email address.
when it asks for your email enter it as follows. [email protected]. your actual password. follow the settings and do not use the net to get settings. put in pop3.live.com for the pop3 screen. and smtp.live.com. on the smtp screen. check the box to allow smtp. and advanced settings. Modify as necessary. Continue and complete other features as you wish.
Once its completed go to settings then the account u just setup. change the last part of ur email from live.com to either hotmail.co.uk/hotmail.com/live.com or live.co.uk.
In the settings for the email you can change from the connection type from Wifi to 3gprs or anything.
If you have mutiple accounts one the first screen of the new account setup enter your password, but for the email add enter:
[email protected]2
[email protected]3
[email protected]4
follow setup as previously.
Notice the numbers 2, 3, 4 on the end this can be changed later if you have several accounts with a provider.
took me a lot of reading up2 do on this mostly thanks to guys here at xda and ppc geeks.
Hope this helps.
That sounds cool, ill give it a try!
but again would it be best to have an unlimited data plan as the phone is constantly roaming for the emails, or is the phone only triggered if i get an email??
unlimited would be better but in the settings when u go into the settings menu for that specific email acc. you can change from "the internet" which would be a wifi connection. or your network internet. mines is tmobile so i can swap when at home an out. but its completely up2u.
Thankyou!
Thats great help. Brilliant.
ur welcome.
Perfect, thanks for this.
And I'm from the Isle of Man so no charges for the texts. God bless tax cuts for companies
Thanks so much Bayhas! My work E-mail is a live.com and my personal is a hotmail account, I couldn't figure out how to get them both on my phone. This tip worked perfectly
It's awesome isn't it
i can't seem to find the option that lets me use only wi-fi (ie in the settings menu you mention above).
i get the options "messages from past xxx days"
and truncate mesages at xxxx kb
am i looking in the wrong menu?
I've been using Seven email client for quite sometime and it works great however I've been recently testing several leo based rom's which have manila 2.5 and now Seven no longer works I've tried new and old version of seven none of them work as I'm dependent on the seven push email I've reverted to manila 2.1 based roms!
anyone have any suggestions or alternative to seven that works well with these newer leo based roms?
How do I set up my email so that it leaves a copy on the server so when I get to my laptop the message can be downloaded? I do my email on my laptop but need to be able to receive / send email from my HTC as well. Thanks!

So ... what is the setting on your TP2 that specifies, "do not remove from server"?
There is a setting on the edvanced settings menu when you setup the account, or go to edit the account settings.
There is a setting on the advanced settings menu when you setup the account, or go to edit the account settings.
use imap instead of pop. pop downloads messages and wont mark them as read on the server or delete them after a month or whenever you set it, and some pop clients delete the email from the server after its pulled. imap is much more advanced and if you can get imap-idle you get push email support.
Leave Email on Server, and other Advanced Settings
I have been frustrated with this issue also. I use my phone for POP email when I am away from my computer. It is almost always business, and I need to keep records of communications in one place. Using Outlook, I archive all old emails to a network server. Since installing my current ROM, I have been unable to find access to the email size, signature and delete handling options. As a result, emails that I delete from the phone also get deleted from the server before I download them to my PC. This is a big problem since I sometimes delete messages from my phone without taking action - planning to deal with them the next day from the office. Dealing with multiple email accounts and up to 50 messages per day makes the phone very cluttered unless I regularly clear them out.
I just discovered the "back door" into the old WinMo style advanced email settings using a tip from another thread regarding email signatures.
I am using the Energy ROM (08-Sep-10, which I love). Here is how to get to the advanced email settings:
1) From any email Inbox (not the Sense screen) tap Menu/Tools/Options to get to the Messaging settings page.
2) Tap an email account on the list.
3) Tap "Send/Receive Schedule".
4) Tap "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the screen.
5) Choose your option under "When deleting messages:"
Other advanced options are also available this way, including email signatures for each account, as well as download size and scheduling.
I'm happy again!
Tim
Thank you for resurrecting this 9 month old thread.
I too thank you for posting this. I needed to change this on one of my accounts but had forgotten where the change needed to be made. You saved me lots of time searching.
Again, thanks much for the direction.
