You have to hard reset since you are not supposed to set up password during the initial set up. You will lock the device if you do.
Is not user password is a software that pop out when phone is starting
Hard reset your device and just when the device is going to do auto-configuration (after screen calibration and date set is done), quickly soft reset the device (stylus in pin-hole). This way, you will stop the auto-customizations from running and therefore, any software being installed that is requiring you to set a password will not be installed. Good luck!

I have just thismorning installed the 3500 update and got my XDA 2s to connect to my Nokia car kit without loss of connection. (Got off the forum this morning).
However now i cant get any GSM connection to my SP. There is just a '!' next to my signal bar, soft and hard resets dont seem to have any effect.
On a hard reset (original O2 rom) when the pin code screen first appears if im quick enough and type my PIN in the connecting dots go next to the signal bar for about 10seconds while O2 stuff is installing then the symbol just go back to the '!'. Any other time the status symbol just does not change, it does not even try to connect but just representions 'no service'.
My SIM card works fine in other phones and there is nothing physical as far as I can see wrong with my XDA. I simply lost connection upon the installation and soft reset of my XDA after the i-mate bluetooth patch.
If anyone else has had this problem or has a suggestion for me then please let me know.
my msn addy is [email protected] if can/want to use that.
Thanks, Ben.
Also when i try to manually choose my GSM network, i.e. press on either of the 3 buttons, Find Network, Set Networks and Select Manual I get the messages "Unable to register on selected network. Choose another network, or disconnect your data connection and try again" for the first buttons and "Unable to read setting from network. Try viewing settings later, or dissconnect data connection and try again." for the second.
I have also had problem with my xdaiis displaying Invalid or missing sim card. Happened this afternoon for no particular reason, not had a chance to test my sim card with another phone yet but hopefully will be able to tomorrow.
Will let you know the results
I was advised to hard reset my phone multiple times, which i had done, and no change.
So i resorted to re-flashing the ROM,... using the available ROM on SourceO2. What i was not counting for however was that there was a mistake and the file which states for XDA 2s actually should be for XDA 2. As this proggy has erased my ROM, and then kindly informed me that I am usin the wrong version so does jack all.
Therefore I am now stuck with a dead XDA and no means of putting a ROM on there (seached for hours), cant find an XDA 2s ROM anywhere.
Hope you get yours sorted. Let me know if have any suggestions.
Ben.
Hi guys,
Recently installed the latest ROM offered by O2 onto my XDA2s, having firstly been incredibly frustrated that I'd lost all my txt messages and installed applications, I have since found that the phone locks up almost daily now - it particularly seems to be whenever switching the phone on/off with the topright power button - at which stage it'll just freeze.
Sometimes when making a call, I'll dial the number, and when ringing starts, switch the phone display off so as to save batteries, when doing the same since the ROM update, the phone seems to hang.
VERY frustrated, anyone any ideas, or experiencing the same?
Another question, with Bluetooth Audio, is there any way to stream a telephone call through my PC via a bluetooth link allowing me to chat/hear through the PC instead of the phone?
And finally, does anyone else find the Network Connections settings on the PocketPC OS incredibly stupid, confusing and impossible to accurately setup for Internet access through Wireless/Bluetooth??
Cheers, Ash

follow the above thread. I found by doing what it said about removing o2 active stuff I havent had to soft reset since..
I would also add that I have also upgraded to radio rom 1.12.00 and Blue tooth 3900 (shortly after so not certain it was due just to that but likely)
If I can be any help at all PM me and I will try and assist maybe talk on instant messenger..
But I must repeat it hasnt locked since the above and the battery life seems much much greater.... for instance I left it on from 6pm last night until 7am this morning and it appeared to loose only 10% battery including making a couple of calls..
I would do it again with and uk xda2s
Hope that helps
as for the rest of your questions no idea LOL
Stay happy
Thanks for your reply, I did install the upgrade in Corporate mode having read that thread first, but its still installed all the O2 Active stuff - so should I now remove the bits from my Startup folder that relate to O2?
Also, I now cannot find any easy way to disconnect GPRS once its connected????
yep
I would get rid of the active bits as said.. to disconnect gprs simply press and hold the red hang up button
I will look again at your posts and answer anything else I can.. dont know if you have noticed but this site is slow so sorry for the delay in replying
have you upgraded the radio rom and BT version?????
stay happy
did you enter a corporate code when setting up in corporate mode?
0506 i belive
stay happy
Ahhhhh, I thought Corporate Code was for the screen password lock or something, so I just entered my usual code - should I rewrite the rom upgrade again, or can I run the setup program separately on the XDA to enter the 0506 code??
I'm currently running...
Rom V: 1.31.00 WWE
Rom Date: 12/13/04
Radio V: 1.06.00
Protocol: 1337.38
ExtRomV: 1.31.139 WWE
Is that the latest? got from the official O2 website.
Thanks also for the GPRS disconnect, that helps, shame it doesn't tell you, hehe!
you should just be able to do a hard reset and put it into corporate mode. do a backup first though..
The versions you are running are the latest from O2 I think.... however you can find the ones I am using on this forum... I have found them much better and if you are going to do a hard reset you might want to do them first....
anything else just shout..
stay happy
Yeah but if you back up then you are backing up the O2 active stuff as well. When you do a hard reset and choose corporate ok. But when you use backup restore the O2 active gets restored. I use Sprite as backup and i can't see offhand how to backup everything EXCEPT the O2 active stuff so that it won't reinstall on a restore. I've manually put back all my progs etc and then backed up so O2 Active won't come back.
I have to say that the latest O2 Rom update using the personal rather than corporate mode is a disaster. My phone was locking up every day. I was getting really p***** off with it. Now I have got shot of the O2 active stuff everything works fine.
Hi
Here are the instructions I got form Brian at O2 data Support. Back up to PC rather than storage card and restore from there. Here goes:
Workaround - setup a 'Corporate' install that doesn't include the Active
User Interface
Before starting insure important data is saved by syncing to Outlook on your
PC if needed (do not use backup/restore)
* Hard reset.
* Near the end of the custom applications auto-install you will be
given a choice of "Corporate" or "Personal". You should choose "Corporate".
Note: you will only have approx 5 seconds to choose this option, after which
the 'Personal' option will be automatically selected
* You will be asked for a pin. Enter 0506 (that's zero five zero
six) and tap Finish
* You will see the message "Welcome corporate user, O2 Active won't
be installed". Your device is now ready and you will have everything except
the Active User Interface.
Important: the mobile web, WAP and mms settings WILL still be preset.
Hope this helps
Regards
Chris
This is an awful little thing. Is there a way of removing it without having to prevent all O2 extended ROM stuff from installing? Or is it an all or none thing?
Couldn't find it in the forums.
Joe
go to foder start up in windows and delete the file name: conecntionink (not sure but the icon is green palm). Soft reset and you wont see the o2 icon next to the start icon anymore,if you want to remove the O2 active, you must go to foder Font in window, change the name of the file in Font foder and go to setting to remove O2 active => soft reset and that 's it.
Be careful. I recently removed that horrible 02 icon, and the next time I took the battery out my phone hard-reset itself causing me to loose a load of recent photos. I don't know if these event were linked, but my phone never did that before. Just a warning xx
you can set the xda2S into corporate mode but this means doing a hard reset. when installing it will give you an option of a personal installation or a corporate. for the corporate mode you will have to enter this code 0506 by doing this it completely removes all of that o2 active crap. however it will still setup your gprs which is a bonus.
there is another way to do this so you don't have to do a hard reset but i think this is the easiest just remember to back up your files.
Maybe something like this should be made into a sticky ???????
and as using the o2 icon is a way of switching off GPRS, then once its gone, you cannot disconnect with that, you can on the other hand, press and hold the red hang up button on your blueangel 8)
Thanks for the replies, and I will do what you all say and see what's best.
If I go the corporate 0506 route, I guess it tells it to install all the non-O2 stuff and leaves out the O2 icon, and the O2 today screen stuff. Is this correct?
Also, if anyone has any ideas about my audio niggle, then please have a read and reply to my other thread from 13/6/5.
This forum is great and I will soon start playing with ROMs and get with the cookery.
Joe
yep with the corporate way you will just get the standard windows 2003.

no probs, i askd and someone on here gave me the pointer, .
I've installed the new ROM - so far mostly positive.
There is one thing driving me mad (no not the time on the today screen )
I leave the Jasjar switched on and connected / charging via USB. It stays on OK but keeps going back to the password screen.
What I want is to enter the password when ever it switches on. If the device stays on then I don't want to have to enter a password.
Anyone got any ideas???
do you have push mail setup?? if so it could be exchange policy enforcing it.

More information...
The problem is with the device password - NOT the SIM password which works as expected.
Under...
Settings -> Lock
I have ticked "Prompt if device is unused for" and set the time to 0 minutes.
In the previous ROM this meant that when-ever the device is switched off / on it would prompt for the password. However if the device stays on, for example when it's connected to external power then it just stays on - the password screen never appears.
In the new ROM after 1 minute without being used it reverts to the password screen. If you change the "Prompt if device is unused for" time as above then you can make this longer but then you lose the benefit of the switch-on password for this ammount of time.
What I want...
If you turn the device off it prompts for password when you turn it back on.
If the device stays on it never prompts for a password.
I suspect this is a side effect of the new security features that allow IT administrators to set a password timeout. They probably wouldn't want the user bypassing this by leaving the device on. However they have chosen what to me is a strange behavior for "0 minutes" with a timeout of 1 minute when the device is on.

even without push email ... once your administrator decides to install Exchange SP2 the e-mail sync won't work without password setup unless he manaully disable it (the default is simple PIN and time is 5 minutes).
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
It's driving me nuts so I've had to turn the password feature off, but I'd really like to be able to turn it back on.
Thanks guys.
Hello everybody,
still no solution for this password problem.
I'm having the same problem since upgrading the rom on the tek 9000.
Even if you are using the TOM TOM the pda after about a minute it reverts back to the password screen.
Anybody??????????????????????

Hello everybody,

Lets try to keep this thread open to see if anybody while come up with an idea.

Not a complete fix but you could set the timeout to something like an hour.
I've got the password set on mine and don't find it too intruative with a decent timeout set.
I'd guess that it doesn't activate with certain apps as I've not noticed it locking with TCPMP though I may just end up pausing it before the timeout occurs and resetting the countdown.
Ok, after being extremely peeved about this bug I just found a solution that works fine, at least on my Universal:
http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=221
This official M$ password utility from the stone age of Pocket PCs works as it should. (Just remember to turn off the WM5-password lock before turning on the old password utility.)
Hello every1
after a lot of searching for the past month after I did the Rom upgrade on my Qtek 9000 I've find the solution to stop the Password screen to appear when you are using TOM TOM Navigator 5.
Go to this URL and you well find the instraction on how to do it.
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=51293
Hope this well be helpful to someone.
I've been using it for a month now and it works fine.

That fix is too complicated for me.
Anyone else got a simpler solution?
This password reset is driving me nuts too!
If Windows Mobile 5 is supposed to be more secure, this just makes me want to turn the password option off - making it less secure!!
NEW ROM - £$%$^ Password screen keeps appearing
I have a fix! (I think)
1. Get a registry editor (I used minied of sourecforge.net, because its opensource, but there are many others available)
2. Go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\LASSD\AE\{50C13377-C66D-400C-889E-C316FC4AB374}
- The value called AEFrequencyType will be 1. Change it to 2.
- Ensure the value called AEFrequencyValue is 0
Exit the editor and reset the device.
From now the device should only lock to the password screen when the power shuts off, as per pre-AUK2 behaviour.
Note that if you go in to the lock settings screen, it will try to change the AEFrequencyType value back to 1. Also, this will *not* work if you have an Exchange 2003 enforced policy for this setting active. The policy will overwrite it.
Mine says ASFrequencyType\0 (0x0)
Is this what I edit?
When I click to edit, I have options of 'New DWORD' or 'New String'
Not sure what to do now.
Any idea please?
Which registry editor are you using? It sounds like when you're clicking, it's trying to create a new value, possibly the default value for the key, rather than edit the existing AEFrequencyType value. Most registry editors have a tree structure of the keys in the left hand or upper pane, and the list of values in the right or lower pane. Make sure you have the value highlighted in the right or lower pane before you click edit.
First though, my apologies, one step I missed: Before you do the registry edit part, make sure you have set a password and set the device to prompt if device unused for 0 minutes in Settings -> Lock.
Lastly, can you clarify - is the ASFrequencyType or AEFrequencyType you've got in your registry?
hey "Mutant"....I just tried your method by changing the registry AEFrequencyType from 1 to 2, and it seems to be working fine, thanks a lot. Have you up to now, found any other problems?
Hello folks, recently took delivery of two nice new XDA Execs at our company. I upgraded one to the latest ROM image from 02, but since doing so all the 02 enhancements have dissapeared from it. I upgraded the other and it still has 02 Active and some other 02 icons.
The only difference with the first was I selected to enter a password on initial reboot after the ROM flash. When it rebooted, it asked me for the password but wouldnt accept any input at all, from the screen or keyboard so I soft reseted it.. it works fine just hasnt got the 02 bits..
Any ideas how I can get them back?
Just hard reset it,that should do it. (Press the 2 softkeys on the keyboard whilst pressing the button on the side with the stylus).

..I've done this. When the device restarts amongst other things I get an 02 screen asking what type of install I want, Basic or Corporate.. have no idea what the difference is!
..also, when the device finishs restarting and installing all the enhancements, the Internet Explorer doesnt connect to the internet. I launched the 02 Active first time I tried this and it seems to further personalise everything but I found the interface to be a little bit much! ...prefer the standard interface.
Not sure what to do!
o2 enhancements
you should probably choose the consumer option when the device starts up (it is the default Setting). not connecting to the internet means the device probably did not set up properly, sometimes any interferance with the setup procedure-entering sim pin etc can cause this to happen. try resetting it again or there is an option to reset the connection in the active menu- if this is the device with the active menu, it is called extras use the connection settings option this will reset the connection settings..again you need consumer gprs and uk

If you really want the shoddy interface of Death, run o2 ActiveUI from programs.
I hate it.
