This is an awful little thing. Is there a way of removing it without having to prevent all O2 extended ROM stuff from installing? Or is it an all or none thing?
Couldn't find it in the forums.
Joe
go to foder start up in windows and delete the file name: conecntionink (not sure but the icon is green palm). Soft reset and you wont see the o2 icon next to the start icon anymore,if you want to remove the O2 active, you must go to foder Font in window, change the name of the file in Font foder and go to setting to remove O2 active => soft reset and that 's it.
Be careful. I recently removed that horrible 02 icon, and the next time I took the battery out my phone hard-reset itself causing me to loose a load of recent photos. I don't know if these event were linked, but my phone never did that before. Just a warning xx
you can set the xda2S into corporate mode but this means doing a hard reset. when installing it will give you an option of a personal installation or a corporate. for the corporate mode you will have to enter this code 0506 by doing this it completely removes all of that o2 active crap. however it will still setup your gprs which is a bonus.
there is another way to do this so you don't have to do a hard reset but i think this is the easiest just remember to back up your files.
Maybe something like this should be made into a sticky ???????
and as using the o2 icon is a way of switching off GPRS, then once its gone, you cannot disconnect with that, you can on the other hand, press and hold the red hang up button on your blueangel 8)
Thanks for the replies, and I will do what you all say and see what's best.
If I go the corporate 0506 route, I guess it tells it to install all the non-O2 stuff and leaves out the O2 icon, and the O2 today screen stuff. Is this correct?
Also, if anyone has any ideas about my audio niggle, then please have a read and reply to my other thread from 13/6/5.
This forum is great and I will soon start playing with ROMs and get with the cookery.
Joe
yep with the corporate way you will just get the standard windows 2003.

I was in the process of applying an upgrade to the ROM using my laptop.
Everything was going fine so I went to make a drink. When I returned the screen saver was active on the Laptop and the screen on the XDA 2 was grey showing a progress report of 55% complete. When I looked at my PC sdreen there was an error message saying that my USB connection had failed (not the exact words) and offered to try to re-connect or end connection. I tried both but couldn't get activesync to reconnect. I have since tried a soft reset and hard reset but all I have is the O2 start screen with the bubbles. I can not switch off without removing the battery. Please Help

It looks like the screensaver screwed up the connection. Not to worry, your device can still be upgraded.
Put the device in boot loader mode by pressing and holding the jog button (bottom centre of device) and the power button at the same time and press reset button. This should show the bootloader screen (dark screen with Serial V1.0x displayed). Put the device in the cradle and it should then display USB V1.0x. You don't need Activesync as the upgrade process looks after its own connection.
Make sure that the cradle is connected directly to th USB port on your laptop and not to a HUB and that the power supply is connected to the cradle. Disable the screensaver on your PC , restart the upgrade and it should work OK.
Hi there, I am from Malaysia, have feel question:
1) I am currently using Rom 1.72 which WAXX posted it earlier. Should I upgrade to this version that dcs posted? Is it necessary?
2)What is Blckberry that u guys kept on mention?
Thanks you very much.
You are a STAR Sir
Thank you very much for your help. It is people like you that brighten up the dullest of Manchester days. Your advise worked a treat and saved me from returning, what was a paper weight, to the "O2 Service Dept" (who are subcontracted by O2). Why they couldn't have given me the same instructions I will never know.
Just to alert others to the incompetance of the whole system. Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to switch off the screensaver, (I suppose with hindsite I should have checked it myself!!!).
I spent the best part of an hour on the phone being passed around different departments as I questioned why it should happen and why nothing was being done to rectify the matter.
I am informed by the O2 Service Dept that a memo highlighting the Number of people returning machines affected as mine, has been ciculating the offices of O2, and distributed to Dealers for the last week. Wouldn't it be easier to temporaraly remove the download or add a warning about screensavers, or is this just another way the Service Dept has to make money?
Once again Thank You

Thank you . To be fair though, until you had this happen, I never thought about the consequences of a screensaver activating. It is something I can add to the list of things to be aware of though .
From what I have read from different people on this forum, however, I agree that O2 support is sadly lacking in basic knowledge for these 'modern' devices, and one would now expect their installation instructions to contain the things they should have learnt from people like yourself. We will have to see .
I saw a post on here about the progs in the windows/startup folder. Someone mentioned that removing the "connections" executable file had made their XDA more stable. It seems to be the exe that places the O2 icon on the task bar at the top of the screen.
I tried just that...moved the file out of startup to a temp backup folder and did a soft reset.
That was a couple of days ago and I haven't had to reset since Previously I was having to reset 3 or 4 times a day just through very light use!
Thanks for the suggestion Wilesd
Hmm not sure what .exe you are talking about in the windows\StartUp folder.
All I have there are:
Code:
aPerSaveStark.lnk
Camera_Detect.lnk
CheckAutoRun.lnk
ChgDfLnk.lnk
cPerSaveStar.lnk
IA_Caller_ID.lnk
nPerSaveStar.lnk
O2 Connect.lnk
poutlook.lnk
RegNotify.exe
Run_BTTrayCE_10.lnk
Spb GPRS Notify.lnk
STK.lnk
tPerSaveStar.lnk
As you can see.. The only .exe I have is the RegNotify.exe.
The closest that I get to O2 is the O2 Connect.lnk shortcut..
Is that the one you moved?
I don't have the "02 Connect" link in my startup. The file I moved was called "Connections". I can't see on my pda what the file extension is so I don't know if it was a .lnk or a .exe. The mention in the previous post I got the info from was that it was an executable though.
THIS is the post I saw it in.
Maybe it's a country specific thing ?
After all the crashing I was getting with the 1.31 ROM and O2 Active which I never used I decided to do the Corporate install that does not put on the O2 Active rubbish. My phone has not crashed since before I was getting at least 4-5 lockups a day!
Glad I could help, anyway I had to hard reset mine after i installed some dodgy camera upgrade Cab file so decided to give the "Corporate" option ago this time, just select Corporate during the Boot up and type 0506 when it asks for a corporate code.
No looking back now, basically you get a clean WM2003SE install without ANY O2 rubbish but all the GPRS configs etc.. intact. I have not had to do a single reset since.
Recommend this method to any fed up with the O2 active stuff screwing up your IIs. I can honestly say I can't fault the device now.
Thanks for the info guys.
I been holding back from doing the ROM update on my XDAIIs due to everyone saying they have to keep sot reseting their device.
I've just removed the connections.exe from startup folder on my existing setup - make sure i'm happy to carry on without the O2 icon at the top.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
Great I shall try this tomorrow.
I've been getting regular crashes on my XDA 2s since I upgraded to the latest ROM.
D
Thanks, removed the O2 connections as suggested 2 days ago and have not needed to reset since.
Was having to reset 2 or 3 times a day since I'd upgraded.
difference between corporate and personal
Whats the difference between corporate and personal mode?
Corporate mode basically doesnt install O2 Active at all so you're left with the default windows screen (presumably so you could customise with your own corporate guff)

Thanks and what do you mean "0506" as corporate code?
thanks ...yellow screen?
thanks guys the corp version seems to do the trick, look very stable now. who need o2 crap. however i can't fail that notice that the screen is slightly yellow from certain angles. it look whitish when you are right in front of it but from any other angle it looks yellowish...anyone else with similar screens? don't remember this to be the case with my previous trusted xda 2...it's a nice device though...

It seems to be a thing with the latest XDA2 "s" and "i" models as it didn't happen on the original XDA2. I did read that the original had Sony screens but the newer ones are made by someone else.
Regardless of this minor inconvenience, I do think the new screens are much brighter that the previous ones...Just my opinion of course

increase brightness levels
yes they are brighter indeed...also, the xda2s by default reduces the light of the screen to conserve power when used on a battery...if you fix this the yellowish feel goes almost away...why can't they get their sceens right, same probs with bloody apple products, don't they understand that their screen are the most important interface with their devices...

connections.exe in start up
I removed the connections as advised in my XDA IIs and yes it did improve the stability, but after several days I found that even though the PDA was working well the phone would not work properly, either the phone would lock or it would not dial out, or you would answer a call but the caller could not be heard. On two occasions my blue tooth connection was lost. though this only happened on the first day. This was solved by a soft reset. So I have come to the conclusion that yes connections is the trigger but also it dose serve some purpose. I am therefore going to use the corporate mode which seems to be a common solution on many forum topic subjects. I hope this feedback helps others.
I have only just got an XDA2s & noticed that I was resetting 5 or more times per day. I have now removed connections.exe from the startup folder and also removed all references to O2 Active from the Today program and the Start Menus
I'll post results in a few days

I tried corporate mode with removed connections.exe and installed beta of the new today screen.
I have noticed an issue with losing connections too, and your comment about not hearing caller reminds me that happened to me but I thought nothing of it at the time.
I have noticed a bit of a pattern to the not dialling out issue
Basically if the phone loses all connection for a while (not sure how long) then it seems to not get it back when you get to an area you can receive. A soft reset sorts this out.
But this is highly annoying for me, I live in London and go to work on the underground (subway to you yanks) and when I come out if I forget to reset my BA it will not receive calls or dial out.
XDA IIs Stability
What ROM version or versions are you all using?
I'm also having to reset my XDA a couple of times of day and would like to improve on the stability of the device. I've looked in my \Windows\startup and have various links (one is O2 Connect) and two executables (CommLoader.exe and RegNotify.exe).
Also, when I have had to do a hard re-set I have never gotten the option of 'Corporate or Personal'. Probably because of different ROM versions.
Also have any of you experienced problems with the Bluetooth no starting because of low memory on a regular basis?
Do any of you have an O2 XDA IIs from Asia?
Thanks
No resets in 3 days now I've removed connections.exe & stop using O2 Active UI Not using corporate mode though - I'm not brave enough yet to try upgrading my ROM
Ok, I am getting increasingly frustrated trying to resolve an issue... my Xda O2 IIs keeps "waking itself up" ....aaaargh!!!
I hit the power button on the top to shut off the display (it saves power and enables me to lock the other keys from being accidentally pushed) but after a very short time, the screen comes on by itself, and I can't figure out WHY!!!!
While just sitting on my desk or out on the road, not in the cradle, I noticed, from time-to-time, that the "G" Icon at the top is often replaced by an "x" and the 'left/right sync arrows' ...so I naturally thought it was trying to connect to something.
I thought it might be trying to connect to GPRS, so I removed the connection. It didn't fix the issue.
I thought it was a Bluetooth File Transfer issue, so I deleted that connection also... still no resolve.
I checked my ActiveSync settings, and it all looks ok.
PLEASE HELP, it's killing the length of life in my battery on a daily basis!!!
i had the same problem when i was on the o2 rom, i sorted it by getting shut of the o2 rom and installing the imate 1.40 rom.... it runs faster, better and never needs soft reseting, with the added bonus of wm10.
but i kinda came to the conclusion that when the fone itself talks to the network every so often, ( ya know when u get interferance when its next to a radio or ur desktop speakers.) as it did it at those times, maybe u should stick it next to something and see if u get the radio interference, and see if it does this in flight mode......
also maybe think about removing the o2 active if u have that, and as a last resort, if no-one else can halp with a fix, maybe think about upgrading to imate 1.40 rom...
Mine did this for a while. I can't remamber the EXACT setting, but it was activesync trying to sync on a schedule (like every 5 minutes) over WAP.
If its the same problem, a bit of rummaging around the activesync settings should sort it out.
-Mike
Thanks joey jojo. Thanks mike freegan.
Joey, where can I get iMate 1.40 ??? Although, I really don't want to use the iMate rom. Ideally, I'd like to find and fix the problem I'm having with this O2 rom.
Mike, I checked my ActiveSync settings on the device... everything looks ok to me. Under ActiveSync/Tools/Options/PC Synchronization: 'Use this PC' is set to ZEUS (which is my computer name) and the other two boxes are UNchecked for 'Use mobile schedule to sync with this PC' and 'Sync with this PC during manual sync' ...then when I click on the Options button, the 'When cradled' dialogue appears, the checkbox for 'Enable PC sync using this connection:' is CHECKED and the connection to use is set for 'USB' . Then, under the 'Mobile Schedule' tab, everything is set to 'Manually'.
BTW, when I put the device in 'Flight Mode' ...it doesn't mysteriously 'wake-up' by itself.
I agree, it appears to be trying to use GPRS to 'connect' or 'sync' with something... I just can't seem to find what or where the cause is located. Aaaargh!!! Any other ideas guys?? Anyone else?
XDA III IIs IIi Waking UP
I've found that if I leave my bluetooth switched on it does this I'd love to have my bluetooth on all the time but as it does this I have it off unless I'm using my GPS.
Can this be fixed ?
Thanks Carl n Adele,
I tried your suggestion, shutting off BlueTooth, but after doing so, and then pressing the power button, the device STILL wakes-up after about 20-30 seconds. So, that wasn't the problem.
Is there any O2 subscribers that can call O2 Tech Support and ask some questions? I'd even call myself if I could pretend to be someone else. Just a thought, if there was anyone willing to help out.
i will try to get u xda support number, i work at o2 so i might be able to ask someone too... tho i guess they wont know, cos there idiots.... lol
I had this problem too. Found that Activesync was still running in the background and was using "mobile schedule" to sync via GPRS (even when set to manual), check that ActiveSync does not appear in the Running program list...
Thanks joey jojo, I really would appreciate the help!
m4ttyw, you are correct, ActiveSync was running in the background. But I had set everything in ActiveSync to MANUALLY SYNC. Nevertheless, I STOPPED ActiveSync in the Running Programs List, then pressed the Power Button again, and with fingers crossed and holding my breath, I waited to see if the device would 'wake itself up' again... and... sure enough, it did. Same thing as always! DAMN! Nice try though, thanks.
This is really frustrating me. The manual shows NOTHING about that Icon at the top if the screen (see earlier message in this thread) and what it is doing, so I can only think that is is still trying to connect or sync something... AAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!
Hmmmm, I wonder if it might have something to do with the GSM Band setting? It's currently set to Automatic, I am not sure what it SHOULD be set to for Rogers in Canada???
Darn think waking up
checked all my settings and its def the bluetooth causing my problems
Not mine, Carl... I have BlueTooth SHUT OFF and the device still wakes up by itself!!!
NEW Observation: When the device wakes-up, it takes about 5 seconds before the "G" icon changes to the 'sync' icon with the 'x' (see pics earlier in this message thread) but, I've noticed that signal strength drops off to nothing except a few dots "..." as if it were searching for a signal. And then, immediately comes back to normal signal strength.
sol
This is sometimes caused by a conflict between ur current radio stack and the frequency ur network is using.
What i mean is, the 'G' icons only represents the availability of gprs in ur current coverage area.By default, ur phone syncs with ur provider every x interval
in seconds, by which the state of gprs availability is changed (Hence, its icon) in ur case, ur pda wakes up whenever ur pda syncs with ur network. A temporary solution would be to choose a network configuration (under settings - connections) which doesnt have a gprs connection. This might, or might not cure it. The best thing to do in my opinion is to change ur current Rom ( or atleast ur radio Rom) that would definately cure the problem.
Try both solutions and post.
Sorry for my worse english.
I met this problem for several times, and it seem to cause by active sync inside the PPC.
I have to connect it to PC and have a Sync Operation, then solve it .
My Device :
Simpified Chinese Dopod 696
The Version Number is fogotten Because I had upgraded it .
Thanks gz_lgz,
I think you are CORRECT!!!! I started to think about what you said in your message, and decided to INSTALL the NEW VERSION of ActveSync 4 on my desktop pc.
After installing ActiveSync 4, I did a sync, removed device from cradle, pressed the power button on the device and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... AND it did NOT WAKE ITSELF UP!!!
It seems there was something happening with the ActiveSync installed on the device that was not working properly and therefore kept trying to sync itself again & again, but since installing the new version of ActiveSync, it corrected the problem.
NOTE: I suppose that uninstalling and reinstalling the OLD version of ActiveSync may have done the same thing... but I never tried to do that.
Nevertheless, I am very happy that it is working properly now!!!
Thanks EVERYONE for your time and patience and WILLINGNESS to help!
Gentlemen,
After upgrading to the latest Dangaard ROM I've got a problem that seems to have the same root cause although the symptoms are slightly different.
If Bluetooth is switched on and my hands-free Logitech is paired with the Blueangel, it wakes up every minute. Once the hands-free is switched off, the device sleeps normally. Another lame thing is if the phone call is long enough for the device to go to the sleep mode (longer then 1 minute in my case), the Bluetooth connection is dropped and the sound is transferred to internal speaker.
There is no need to mention that Activesync is stopped. I'm quite sure that all these problems have something to do with the power management of the device. That's why I'd like to ask if somebody uses any additional software for the power management and if you've got any recommendation on the subject.
Hope it could help us to get rid of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. My device details are mentioned in the signature.
PS. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful forum. I must admit that the idea of BlueAngel was as great as the implementation sucks...
Update: Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21235
I think this workaround is good enough.
just a thought, but open active sync on your xda, and make sure that on the PC tab, the box marked 'use mobile schedule to sync with this pc' is not ticked and the other marked 'sync with this pc durin manual sync' IS ticked
also on mobile schedule tab, all selections are set to manually, and the box marked 'sync outgoing items as they are sent' is not ticked.
dunno if that will help, but its a thought anyway!!!

i get the same problem with mine - ever since i turned my active sync onto manual it started with the problem so i turned it back to automatic.. just seeing if that fixed the problem i've been having..
also Downloading the lastet Active sync 3.8 and see if that helps..
I've figured out that its Sprite Backup Software v3.0 thats causing my XDAIIs switch on all the time. Disabling the Scheduled Backup seems to resolve the problem.
However, I've upgraded to SBSv3.14 which works even without turning off Scheduled backup.
Hope this helps
Hello,
I'm using schap's WM6 ROM 3.30a
I was wondering if someone knows an app to initiate a 3G/GPRS/EDGE connection.
I use radio streaming programs that don't initiate the connection by themselves. So I would love that kind of button to connect/disconnect easily from my 3G ISP.
If you think it's possible...
Thanks !

Schap's CommManager has a button to do this
I've downloaded schap's comm manager ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310650 ), but I don't see any button to do that. There is a button to switch between 2G and 3G. But I dont' see a button to start or stop the connection.

How about BandSwitch...

As I understand you want a way to disconnect a 3G connection... right?
If so, you want something like the HTCustom Tweak Application... it allows you to display the GPRS/3G Disconnect and Timer option!

does the button I mentioned in the comm manager not work for you?
sorry I found it out.
But I would prefer something faster, with one click only
First off this has nothing to do with WM6... second all of the tweak apps have a setting for connection always on! and the option to show a dissconnect button on the top! third in most commangers there is a data connection button that you simply tap and turn the data on and off... searching the forum would have been a much easier way to find your answer it seems that people love to be spoon feed around here and are not willing to go through the trial and error that real devs do to get what they want. until senior member stop feeding into this the problem will never stop. I know everyone wants to be a nice guy but damn if we don't stop this no we might as well change the name to HoFo2...

My first thought would be to look at a program called 'mortscript' in which you can create scripts and attach them to shortcuts or hardware buttons. You can do just about anything with these scripts so is probably your best bet for a 1-click option
Be happy with what is out there. If you feel you want something faster and one click, you might be better off writting your own apps to fit your needs.

Sorry for Hijacking this thread.
After I got the WM6 image on my device I lack the button / link for initiating the 3G/UMTS-Connection (before I was able to click on the "U" (="3G") logo in the menubar, and the Connectivity-Bubble gave me the option to initiate the data-connection. With the new image it only shows me a text that "there are no data-connections active. If necessary applications will initiate a connection. Go into "Settings" to change your connection settings." (Freely translated from the german version)
Anybody know how I can get them back? I'm aware of the reg-hack to get the disconnect-button in HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2, what are the settings of Flag2 and Flag of people who are able to initiate the connection from the menu bar?
TIA, Ulf
PhoneAlarm can include a button to initiate or stop a data connection (as well as BT or WiFi buttons), with one click. It's also an awesome program for other reasons if you haven't used it yet.
Hi!
I live in Europe and flashed the Dopod rom..
The thing is, ever since the upgrade when I connect to (mobile) internet, it doesn't show the UMTS sign, but the Edge/3g sign. Internet is a lot slower than before as well.
Does this have anything to do with the fact I get an error when I boot saying it's for Asia only, or do I need to do something to connect to the UMTS network?
I've been using two PRophets and my last adquisition was a Trinity (Qtek S300) - HTC 3600.
The magic question is:
Is there any WM6 ROM (including originals...) that let me USE EMAILS, AND USER PASSWORD without loosing it after a soft reset?
How can everybody uses WM6 with these GREAT bugs?
I don't understand....
Thank you early.
Disappearing wifi and email accounts is a wm6 issue there's some thread about it,just use the search feature.
Thank you, i use to use search as much as you can imagine. No clear response to this problem anywhere. Give me an example.
Examples: Wm6 issue (just take a look.. Nothin related directly. so much ****)
WM6 Bugs--> Nothing.
Maybe i don't know how to search...
So, finally (for future people who use SEARCH...):
Is this a bug, and there is no solution. We have to **** up with it, dont we?
Nothin related directly. so much ****???
Come on give me a break.
Let's see if this helps you:

[!] For prevent password and account dissapearing u should (you should make this procedure immidiatly after first soft reset ):
1. Set up your connection settings
2. Open IExplorer / Set up Ineternet connection / Open some internet page
3. Click Disconnect button to close internet connection
4. Hold power button and turn off your phone
5. Power on your phone.
After that procedure your password wont dissapear. I think that you should repeat the same for mail account (set up mail account / try to send or recieve your mail / hold disconnect button / turn off your phone)
Thanks to mun_rus

Dont know with CIDs devices, on my Triny that never hapens to me, I m using now Mary 3.6 and is working fine...
I personally never encountered any problem with disappearing stuff after poking the reset hole on my non-SuperCID Trinity - but then it's actually quite seldom for me to poke that hole anyway since the cooks here produce quality roms. When I need reset, I usually did it the soft way.
THE solution !

My solution:
1. Always use power off->on reset
2. NEVER use hardware reset (stylus reset or remove battery)
3. If some installation program asks you to reboot, ALWAYS say NO, and power off->on yourself
4. If your Trinity halts for some reason (maybe ATI video chip bug), and the power off button does not work, just bind the Button 1 (Hold) to <Soft-Reset>. It always WORKS!
And you settings are there after.
I just used to live with this bug.
Maybe gurus can help with this issue, maybe not, maybe it's hardware malfunction, and it's time to change HTC to some other brand
