my htc p3300 started to give me random crashes, hanging spontaniously without any reproducable scenario.
Sometimes it happens when the device is in power-saving mode, sometimes during connection to PC while being charged, once it gave me during the phone conversation.
The About shows:
CE OS 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)
I can't remember which ROM it was exactly, but I downloaded it from these boards. I hate using original French versions hence I started to look for English one. Oh, and when phone boots it gives T-Mobile boot screen.
Anyways, I did a hardware reset, and it was running without a single crash for a whole day. Till this moment. It crashed again, software reset didn't work, had to do it hard way.
I contacted the vendor, and they are OK to send it for repairs, but it's gonna take around 3 weeks, plus I am not sure that they will be able to reproduce the problem, and what I am also not sure in, is that they may simply reflash the ROM with standard French version and be done with it.
So I am trying to get some help and opinions while downloading Mesche's vanilla v2 ROM to give it a final try.
Any ideas and comments are welcome

no ideas, anyone?
I flashed with vanilla custom rom, and I only got 1-2 crashes so far..
Also when it crashes, sometimes the screen goes gray or dirty white-ish
and I can see vertical stripes on it..
I have exactly the same problem. I think the problem has to-do with cpu temprature. When its a hot day, I get it all the time. I think I am going to open it up, and check if the problem is with dirt inside.
sounds like a over heating problem, the screen usually goes dodgy if it gets too hot (same with most LCD screen products).
Do u have a program to show the temperature? (i use BatteryStatus, so get the temp from there).
thats really strange, i doubt it's a temperature that makes him sick
for example, it went dead last night, it was not hot inside my house, but the phone still went dead, so I had to hard reset it
I am facing the three weeks of horror without my artemis (( since I am out of ideas and going to send it to repair to manufacturer

Seriously.
It may be some software you have running on it. What all to you have? And, are you running the original ROM or a cooked ROM? You may have to warranty it if everything is stock.

Well, i just reinstalled fresh new vanilla something ROM that I took on these very boards.
The original ROM is in French, so that's not an option for me.
And yeh, my artemis is still in warranty, so I'm going to exercise that option, I'm afraid
The Start menu pops up as and when it feels like it. It normally happens when writing sms. While writing, the start menu just pops up and it's bloody irritating.
I've tried hard reseting without any additional softwares on at least 4 different ROMs from here & the problem still persists. I'm convinced that it's not a hardware problem cos Karmba 7.2 Non-Touch ROM does not have this problem but the ROM is way to heavy which causes the PDA to slow down.
Is anybodyelse facing this problem? Is there a fix or something to this? Appreciate any help & advice i can get. Thank you.
P/s: I don't get this problem on my TyTN II, Dopod 838 Pro & Touch on custom ROMs

Oh sorry....forgot to mention. I'm using the Dopod810.

Well, there has been a number of posts on this known Trinity weakness.
I also experienced quite an irritating behavior as well some time ago.
Look through the threads, you should find them. Personally, I do have the impression that since I use FTouchFlo, it is far better. However, this only is an impression ... not sure it helps,, but at least you should not feel like "I am the only one with this damned f..... thing" !
same problem
I have the same problem on my phone! specially when writing sms with phonepad and no stylus. You are right. It`s unbelivable annoying. the problem seems to dissapear when you are using the stylus and not flabby fingers..
Me 2 :'(
I am also having this problem.
I've noticed that it only happens when i press lightly on the screen, not when i press hard.I Suspect that it is a fault in the digitizer, and somehow it signals to the device that the upper left corner of the screen is pressed.
My suggestion for a possible solve is to write a little program that prevents the user from clicking on the start menu on the screen, by introducing a "non-click" zone where the start menu is on the today screen.
As i allways use the "windows" button i can always access the start menu. This, i think, will prevent this fault from happening.
My only problem is that i don't know how to program native C.
I have not tested my above mentioned theory, but i would wery much like to. So if there is anyone out there that can do this program, i would be very gratefull.
Scann69,
I would hate to make you nervous, but when I encountered the same problem you are havin it was the start of somethign terrible. My Trinity was back and forth from repair for over 6 months!!!
They replaced the screen, it worked for almost 2 days. They replaced the screen AGAIN but when it came back the 'vibrate' function of my poor Trinity didn't work. They then replaced the mainboard and now things appear to have settled down (but i've only had it back for a couple of weeks now).
My suggestion would be send it in for repair. Good Luck

this problem have been there since i bought the phone a year ago. Htc replaced my mainboard around 5 months ago because of some cameraproblems. I think Beebo has a good point about the digitizer. that would surtenly explain why it dont happen to me when i use the stylus. the problem mostly occur when i use my fingers on phonepad while writing sms..
i also got this problem...quite frequent
first, the changed motherboard, nothing solve and still happen quite frequent
second, changed lcd screen, happen less around once a day or 2 days once
i found this problem quite easily by using finger but now even using stylus it also appear....
how u guys solve this problem? got send to service center or just leave it?
Yep this isn't a WM6 issue
Yep it is a Trinity issue
Yep it is a hardware issue, something to do with the LCD screen. Some have said it gets worst if the phone is heated.
You might have seen improvement after installing touchflo because of the increased reaction time to touch.
No I don't know a solution

but this not the way to solve it. this is the trinity's hardware problem. why need us to bear this problem.
what the technician do is change lcd touch screen. it will not solve becoz after a while it will come back. i go to service center until i tired
after monitoring, it still popup at least once a day....
i really don't know how they solve the problem....damn frustrating....
i have this problem too, but only recently.
who gonna be help?
first prob is the start button popping up, next step is that it continually does this and infact will not allow any screen inputs....as in total piece of #$%(ing crap. I have a dopoid d810 in canada , started 2 months into owning the phone , htc will not service it, and pretend like they dont know why this is happening ( there is info all over the net about it, many people think it is the chip that is improperly mounted to the mouther board that controls screen input). AS Dopod has the service contract on this phone htc will not service it for me and of course dopod does not have international warranty. HTC screwed me hard and long.....I have never been so disappointed with a product in my whole life ( even cereal box xray glasses were better than this)
i had this too on my m700, i think it is an issue with the screen mounting, certainly heat and things may well affect it. Possible the casing pushing the top corner of the screen or something.
I had mine replaced by orange.
rjefferis,
what did orange replace for you? touch screen or whole unit pda?

Yes, all you said are right.
the trinity, there are two problem:
one is the LCD mounting, if you touch the LCD slightly, it will push the screen to the corner as click start menu. for the people who met the problem once in few days, it is all right.
the second problem is serious, as you said "worse when heated", that is because a resistant near CPU is designed in wrong place. the problem will happen freqently everyday and worse when phone is hot (cuz the NTR resistant). once it happens, it will get worse and worse till the motherboard breakdown.
i know some people they replace the resistant to fix the motherboard by them self, and they write down all the progress. if some one really handy and insist to fix the problem, i am happy to translate the progress in to WWE
that day i asked staff at service center, they said never occur this problem so far
i asked htc staff(my friend), he said don't know got this problem. seem like htc don't know this problem....
why my dopod 838pro sometime it cannot detect a radio rom and show a NO GSM, but if detect it a radio rom and it will hang about and half hours and reset will turn back to NO GSM, is hardware or software prob, anyone can give me a solution?
Provide more information - OS version and Radio version. Its probably a hardware problem but you may try to reflash to a manufacturer's shipped version and retest.
I had the same problem basically. Phone would freeze up, get repeated NO GSM messages, drop the radio even when it finds it after several minutes of use. I did buy the phone off eBay used and it did freezeup in WM5 ALOT.
I took the phone apart and cleaned all the contacts - same problems. Reflashed manufacturer's rom again and it took. Before it sometimes would hang up - looking for GSM radio. Took it apart again FULLY and put everything back together. It is now working for the past week. No freezeups or drops. Seems to always find GSM on bootup.
last time using a official rom wm6 also freeze up, then flash it to manila2d rom, it also got a same prob, try reflash a radio rom, but always get stuck at 6%, but try and try then 100% done, but also same prob.
so ur solution is try Reflashed manufacturer's rom again?
Thats what I did but the flash alone didn't fix the problem. I don't think a rom flash will bring your phone back but you may get lucky. I had to open it up and clean and reposition things. For some reason it worked. I still get screen fade to white and the directional pad on the front sometimes doesn't work - you move the scroll wheel and it will work again. Might have to replace the dPad circuit board or flex cable. The HERMES seems to have MAJOR problems with quality control and the radios. I personally think the battery presses against a backing plate which rests directly against the chipsets. The silver plate behind the battery does flex and it shouldn't. It probably should be a little thicker to prevent flexing. The heat from charging and the pressure from the battery I think causes the radios to fail. Bad soldering also may be a problem but any pressure on a motherboard and chipsets isn't a good thing. Also screws that are too tight also may contribute to the problem.
My phone has been working for about a week. Prior to that it was getting constant NO GSM errors on bootup and dropped calls. Today the phone was out of the house for the first time in weeks and it worked without any problems - no freezes (did a lot before) and no dropped radio. It has been sitting on my desk for two weeks without any problem. Will try it a few more days and see.
herm200 no GSM
Hi! I have read all thread about no GSM from here.
I have already do many many tests, tried to flash any radio rom extracted, hard reset, mtty with set 1e 1... I have already dissasemble and reassemble it
but no one fix the problem No GSM.
I have the same probleme, sometime no gsm and sometime ok.
So please, if anyone find everything which can fix this problem please post it!
Sorry for my english!
Thanks a lot for all jobs and helps.
Hello all, my hermes had this problem too!
Sometime it works, " 1.56.70.11" and sometime no! "NO GSM"
i have done about twenty flash thinking it will resolve this problem...
After reading a topic on this problem, i have understand it was an hardware problem. Something unsolde.
I have buy "double face scotch", i have disasemble the phone completely.
And on every chip and on the "battery"( little round and flat) i have put a little piece of scotch. it will do a pression on every chip to keep chip connected on the motherboard.
From this moment, the phone has never freeze, no more "no gsm" message!
ALL IS GOOD
Sorry for my poor english.
Many things can affect the radio
Try this...
Un plug your batt... insert a big piece of aluminium under the batt over the gsm chip... it wil not work properly... Magnetic issues... the batt do this things too i prove it on a Nokia... the batt without the stick = radio problem no signal...
Abd here i got the same trouble no gsm sometimes i realized that has been a lot flashes but noup, was a dialer that makes this issues 3G phone canvas,.... back to touch dialer 3G or 2G and its good now... think the CPROG and some other is not so compatible.
Desperately please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!
hey dude try another rom... the roms with HTC phonecanvas 2g or 3g do this issues on my hermes dunno why... thats th reason i dont cook anymore phoncanvas on my roms.
Update Radio ROM to 1.47
I had same problem just recently, and the recommendation that I got was update your Radio ROM ONLY...I upgrade to Radio 1.47 as all the time I was loosing service connection as well as No GSM...after this, my Hermes took live again.
I had 1.16 Radio...!!! and that issue came up after upgrading to one of the so many cooked ROM...I don't remember which one...
Check this link for more info, it saved my life!!!

Cheers,
Hello dear friends!
HTC let me down Kind of stupid phones indeed at least desire...
I have my phone for quite a time now, it is rooted with unrewoked, clockwork recovery and s-on. I flashed many different roms in the past and everything was brilliant. In a pas half-a-year or so I stayed with only one ROM - MIUI-Au. I kept updating it to the newer versions and so on and on. Never had any random reboot or something. At least maybe it was because of some strange app or something else. But now it started to reboot randomly and constantly!
Phone gets hot abit and it just reboots, and never comes to android homescreen again, until I put out the battery, hold it for few minutes, pop it back and then it boots. But as soon as start to play music, or run a game the phone gets hot abit and reboots again. and so on and on. I thought maybe it was a miui issue. So I tried to flash different roms, but guess what? None of the even boot! The main screen shows and with the same second it bootloops again and forever!... (
Even from recovery it sometimes reboots randomly. So i managed somehow to flash my miui back and it at least boots. But it is very unstable now, I barely can use my phone now
PLEASE WHO CAN HELP ME????
My warranty probably out of date, and my phone is rooted, I dont think HTC would accept it...
any thoughts? friends?
What have you set the CPU max to?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thank you for response! Appreciate, really!! I didn't set it, I left everything by default I think! Because as i said, i even tried flashing different roms, not only miui.
What else could be? By the way, with stock froyo rom If I remember correctly, sometimes it became extremely hot, but I didnt get any reboots from that. But now, it gets just a little bit hot and it seems that this causes the reboot...
Now what I just noticed, I get reboots even when the phone is idle. And it is not even warm!
If its not getting hot then I'm confused lol. It sounds like a actual hardware fault. Sorry I can't help with this one

try and get it taken back to stock if you dare.
The phone hasn't been out 2 years yet, which is how long the warranty is.
Thank you! But is there any possibility to fix it without HTC involvement? Maybe it is not hardware issue ? Can it be because phone is rooted and I flashed many roms to it ? I didnt try AOSP roms since reboots started, I will try to pop in Cyanogenmod or other and see if I will get reboots.
Would rerooting my phone and updating my recovery fix the problem?
and Note: yesterday I tried to S-OFF my phone, but I can't even do that with my unstable MIUI. It rebooted in the middle of the process..
I had a similar problem, apparently it's not uncommon on the early revisions. I sent mine to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Thank you for answer! But what if my phone is bought through a contractor?
Can just call HTC and ask the for repair? Or should I contact my contractor first ?
Just give them a call and they will try to help you out. I had a very good customer service experience with them when my desire had some issues.
They will require a proof of purchase though. If you managed to get the receipt from your "contractor" (I am unsure what you mean by a contractor), then there should be no problem.
Sorry for misleading word, I meant T-Mobile. I bought my phone under contract. I think I have a receipt. I even have whole box and stuff of the phone somewhere in my drawer.(just sayin ). So how is customer service of HTC? Poor, good ? I heard you need to tell them that you did a factory reset and that didn't help. Is that true. Also if I will unroot my phone, will they know it was rooted anyhow?
Ahhh....this overheating issue seems common. How they can release faulty phones?? No clue.
thanks for answers mates!
In Singapore, HTC service is really good. Phone was still under warranty.
It took me just one (real) call to confirm a repair order. The first call I was just checking to see what options were available to me.
The second call was an actual repair request. And the third call was me pestering them for a pickup date. heehee
In Singapore, repairs were done via courier. They picked it up and 1 working day later, they sent it back.
Naturally, you will probably need to impress upon them that you tried everything to fix your phone (which I hope you did which includes proving to yourself that it's not the ROMs fault).
You will definitely need to reset everything back to zero. In my case, I downloaded an RUU to totally reset everything back to STOCK, which included removing clockworkmod recovery. You WILL need to create a goldcard for this though so bear in mind that it's not exactly a case of a simple flashing procedure. At least not if you don't already have a goldcard.
Sorry if I overread it at some point, but you speculated at the beginning there could be some faulty app causing this, but you never meantioned performing a full wipe. Have you full wiped yet? Just to make sure it is indeed no software problem.
greets
Thank you for your answers. At the moment I have SuperNova classic ROM. ( 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1) But my phone crashes again and again, it is so annoying and causes me so much trouble.
I never tried a reset or unroot and return to original rom. Im just wondering now, would this help to remove or at least remove those reboots?
Today I was in my work and i was keeping my phone in my jeans pocket. it got hot as u would expect when keeping in pocket and suddenly it rebooten, then it went into a bootloop and started to bootloop 7 times in a row quickly. then again and again. It became very hot at that time.
For the interest, what exact hardware faults causes these reboots and why phone gets even hotter if you keep it on boot loop. If I keep phone cold, the rom usualy stays normal, without reboots. but as soon as I start using my phone, texting or calling for at least 5minutes of using it just reboots.
as I said- really annoying thing :S
I remember my happy times with miui, apps and no reboots Was fun!
cheers for helping!
I would give full wipe / factory reset a chance, and maybe RUU.
At least try it before sending phone to htc.
It is hardware problem, search forum. Fresh ROM without SD card, enabled WIFI and GPS, running G navigation, back of the phone is warm - restart after few minutes.
Maybe someone know how to read info form the phone right before reset? We could understand why the phone is reseting and hopefully add some patch.
Reboot-loop experience
Hey,
i had the same problem over the last few months: In the beginning my phone restarted only when it got hot, but it got worse over the last few weeks, in the end i was not able to use two apps at the same time (music and mytracks) or even to surf the internet longer than a few minutes. The problem did noticeably decrease when the phone was cool - tested by putting it on a fan or in the fridge. Yet, Skype was regularly killing it. As i really love my phone (and especially the AMOLED-Screen!) i did not want to resign. The battery cover contains some metal which is supposed to enhance heat dissipation - so i attached a little thermal pad to the hotter bottom of the phone to improve contact with the head spreader. Unfortunately it did not entirely fix the problem. Yes, it improved the situation a little, but it got even worse after a week or two - in the end i had to turn it in.
So i decided to take it to the Telekom-Shop. They were very kind and told me they would call the other day to confirm that the replacement would have been shipped. It took a few days longer, but i got a phone with the AMOLED-Screen! The employee said it was a used mainboard in a new case, completely refurbished. They only replaced the main unit, i kept the battery, sd-card, charger and so on. Now i have a working Desire again!

This happened a few minutes after flashing a rom i have tried restarting and going into recovery and it is exactly the same in there. Any advice on the matter would be much appreciated thank you

Same in bootloader?
If yes... not good.
Don't think it's due to the ROM you flashed (even if hardy overclocked).
Put back original ROM and ask for warranty.
Hi the phone is exactly the same in the boot loader so it must be the screen. Maybe it was just something waiting to happen but it seems a little strange cause it literally happened 2 min after flashing. The phone booted up and and looked fine then a min later I unlocked it and the screen went as I did it. I don't think the phone is under warranty any more But htcphonerepairs.co.uk quoted me 60 to replace internal LCD so think I will go with that. Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
It sounds like a screen problem. before paying, flash back your previous ROM.
I don't think it will change something but it cost nothing to try.
You're not the first one to have a HW fault just after flash, but I can't understand why it could be related. I think all ROM you can find here use the low level pieces of software from HTC. So the HW is manage as in the original ROM.
(and if it had happen before you flash the ROM you will not have posted it )
Tuning a ROM is easy and with a visible effect. Tuning the low level (kind of drivers) is hard and the effect is hardly visible for normal user.
(hope dev will not read this... I mean 'easier', not really easy)
The only modif I can see is OC. but they OC the proc, not the video component.
But I don't know everything, I can be wrong of course.
