Hi,
since I upgraded my TP2 ROM with the WinMo6.5 from HTC I encountered two issues which really make me regret this from time to time:
On incoming calls very often the caller name is not displayed even if the phone number is known in my address book. Also in call history i just see numbers, not names. This worked perfectly in 6.0.
When I receive a call, i press "take call" but the phone simply wont take it. Instead it silences the ringtone but there is no chance I take the call.
I searched the forum but couldn't find anything that would help. There was some registry entry about setting the size of phone numbers which should fix problem one, but the issue here is, that German phone numbers don't have any fixed size, so the suggested fix is not working. Also I'd wonder why I have to set something up when just the same thing worked perfectly in 6.0. As for the more annoying "can't take call" thingy, i am absolutely clueless. Has anyone of you encountered these issues before and if so, were you able to fix them?
I can't find the link readily but I thought I remember reading that adding (or removing) the "+" in front of phone numbers in your contacts helped the first issue.

Hi folks,
I have found it from time to time too easy to dial a contact resulting in an accidental dial to someone. This is usually due to the fact that I thought I was selecting a contact when tapping on it rather than immediately dialling the number. Perhaps I am too new to the TP2 and Windows Mobile phoning, but it seems to me that it would be useful to have a popup yes/no window to confirm that you want to dial out.
It is a bit like the delete in the email section which deletes without confirmation. I accidentally selected a few emails and then accidentally tapped delete and then saw half my email disappear.. No big deal. But no confirmation box or undo facility that I could see.
Perhaps there is a way of altering the behaviour for the above...???
Any thoughts appreciated....
Sam
Same here. On the missed calls screen I always tap a contact to go to their contact card, but instead I obviously call them immediately.
For me it is just the change from going from Symbian to WM...
I'll get used to it eventually
I think that an extra "Are you sure you wanted to do what you did?" screen would get REALLY irritating very quickly

True.
However the number of times I have accidental touched a contact name (even during call) does make you wonder...
I ended up installing Pocket Shield to prevent it and handle the much to sensitive power button.

So you have PocketShield really running correctly?
I tried, but it's a weird program - installation is correct, changing parameters etc. is no problem, but when it should cick in it gives me errors.
Hi,
The PocketShield Program is an interesting program and potentially solves issues that I have not come across yet probably cos I am new to WM6.1. However I can see the touch screen being a problem, so good find.
HOWEVER.... I do not think this solves my underlying question and that is that once you tap on the contact be it accidental or not it will dial and I think it would be good to have the option of having a "confirm" screen. This is also true with "delete" for the email inbox. I have yet again accidentally deleted an email and even could not get it out of the "Deleted" folder.

Same problem for me.
I found that the contact sorted top on TouchFlo favourites page would get dialled accidentally. I solved this by setting the default number for a contact to be a dummy invalid number. So now at least no call is made when the contact is dialled by accident. This approach may work elsewhere. Not ideal but...
when i go to my call history, 95% of my calls, made or received, come up as unknown! it is pissing me off. all the numbers that are showing up as unkown are number that are stored in my contacts. when the call is made or received the name and picture show up. but a couple of days later it is switched and is shown as a unknown caller! i heard it may have something to do with active sync,, but iam not sure of that. on all my other wm devices this has never happened.
please give me some feed back
anybody else notice this?
sorry, don't have an answer but same problem here.
i second the pissing of the offness.
my unknowns seem to be happening for no reason at all as well.
Unknown numbers can be down to three factors (also on many other WinMo devices).
1, You have the same number duplicated in Contacts under different spelling causing a search error.
2, You have synced Outlook with another software (ie. Nokia or Samsung) that causes slight changes in the Outlook Database. (This can also cause "+" to be omitted from numbers when synced.
3, Not using the latest Activesync software in XP.
Solution I found is to erase all contacts in Outlook (they will remain in the deleted items folder for restore so if all fails you can transfer them back). Edit items in the phone so all are tidy with no duplicates. Then resync.
It's none of those things for me. It just says unkown during the call. If I click View Contact, it'll go to the correct contact in the address book.

Its None of those for me as well. I just noticed this and yes the contacts are stored in my phone correctly. Hope someone comes up with a solution soon. The call history feature is effectively useless this way... except of course, you have a super brain and can remember all your numbers!
iam the original poster of this problem and also for me these aren't the problems, i try it out and still the same thing, contacts are stored, but still shown unknown number in the call history, that is located in the home tab of touch flo
I've noticed that when my phone is ringing, caller ID works fine and displays the person's name and contact picture. But as soon as I answer the call, it sometimes says "unknown" (though I just received a call and it displayed properly).
I synced my contacts with my exchange server via direct push, not Activesync. And I don't have any dupes.
It just seems like caller ID is a bit on the wonky side...
I also checked dupes and other things.
It can't figure out the pattern.
I called someone today who's phone number I know is in another contact record but it showed the correct call.
Then sometimes I get the "unknown".

This is exactly what I see on my tilt2 as well. I can see who is calling, I answer, and then when I pull the phone away from my ear to hit the end call button it says "unknown caller". The caller information DOES show up in my call history, so the only time I am seeing this problem is during the call.
First a disclaimer: I have searched for this quite a bit, but with software updates happening so quickly, and so many different roms out there its hard to find a conclusive answer, and different people have different needs, and with my searching at least, I have not found the answer to my specific question.
So I'm new to the Android thing, coming off a Blackberry 9700. I'm trying to figure out this whol voice dialing thing, and the only conclusion I can come to, is they based this on 1980's voice dialing software. I should mention Its rooted running CM6.
So here's the problem. I want to just push the button on my BT headset like I would with my Previous BB, HTC touch or even Samsung a920 an say "call bob". If the message was not heard, or if there is more than one Bob, I want it to say something along the lines of either "say again" or "did you mean "bob smith" or "call bob mobile or office" at which point it waits for my response and then dials.
What happens is I say "call bob". If it doesn't understand it just gives an error at which point I have to hit cancel on the phone, push the BT button once to close the connection, then again to try again. If at that point it registers, it then gives me a list of close matches with which I have to choose the correct option on the phone. What else I don't want it to do (Which it is doing quite a bit) is just randomly start to dial a string of 10 digit numbers that sound nothing like "Bob".
I can't imagine that with all of Android's/Froyo's advancements on the smartphone front that they would neglect something so important. Especially with all the new hands free laws coming into effect.
So to make a long story short, does the HTC desire/Android/Froyo/CM6 have true totally handsfree dialing? In other words can I dial a contact from my bluetooth headset without ever having to touch my phone? What am I missing here?
I apologize in advance if someone has asked/worked on this before, but I couldn't find anything specific, except someone asking the same question in the AT&T GS2 forum.
So something that bothers me is when I go through the call logs, it lists each and every call as a different entry, even if it is to the same contact. I came to Android from a Nokia E71x, and in that, the call log showed one entry for multiple calls to a contact. Just that when you selected the entry, it showed you multiple entries in that for incoming/outgoing/different times. I hope I didn't jumble up my problem too much. Basically, I want to know if a) there is a ROM which does this (I don't think there is) or b) if there is an app that does this.
Thanks!
Hi All,
I just got my HTC One a few days ago, and while I'm definitely loving it, there is one oddity that I seem to be unable to resolve. It's a rather odd issue, but basically here's what happens:
1. Person A (whom I've added to my People list) calls me. Her name shows up as it should on the screen both while the phone is ringing and also during the call.
2. However, while on the call, if I pull down my notification dropdown, the indicator in the dropdown shows that the phone call is with a different person altogether (her mom).
Being that the notification dropdown is displaying the name in a [LAST NAME, FIRST NAME] format, and also that it is displaying in all caps, it seems it is automatically pulling this data from somewhere other than what I've entered. Her mom is the accountholder on her family's cell phone plan, so this potentially makes sense. I initially thought it might be because of the "Caller Name ID" app that came pre-installed on the phone. However, I've already cleared the data for that app, and also Disabled it, and the problem persists. I like to only have my locally-stored contacts on my phone, so my People app only contains contact information stored on my phone, and not from Google, Facebook, etc.
Does anyone know where it is pulling this odd contact information from, and how I might disable it? Thanks in advance!
