Hello,
I have an FSC N560 and have since the memory update to 128 MB through the SRS company in Germany great problems with the device.
It is WM 6.1. Newplow installed (latest version with 128 MB support).
The device is a RPDA (waterproof by Andres Industries Berlin) with an active GPS antenna and power battery.
The problems:
I am using TomTom7.916 and Igo8.3.4.102680 and before the ram update , everything works super with WM 6.0. (Newplow)
Since the ram update error messages come I have not seen before.
Igo8: Fatal Error occurred in main thread. 000858dc address 0 * / 0 * c0000005 Exeption
TomTom: Not enough memory is aviable (?????????)
The error messages seem to follow any particular system, even running igo8 (or TT) for hours without any problems before the crash comes, other times freezes the software (regardless of whether or not to start a Igo or TT) already at.
I have a route in Igo simulated over 2500 km and have them run - 2 days long! without any problem. Then I finished Igo - quit when the error came back.
I have already tried in my desperation now each Newplow Rom! and also various versions of igo8 and TT (all before) ran - always the same problems.
Other Data.zip and Branding.zip not help (Igo).
The joke is:
I can leave everything to programs running simultaneously on the PDA (even Test), the two navigation programs and and and ... ... .. , brought down enough to provide 5-10 MB of free RAM and the N560's going great - for hours. Or, as has been already written igo8 freezes alone after a few minutes.
I now believe that the new Ram has an error - how can I find out that now??
Is there a memory test program for PDA like PC as the Memtest?
Can you help me?
Bubalabaer.(Germany)

Ahhh... new ROMs are so exciting! How much free RAM after install?
I do the upgrade it's ok
This is the first time I tried your ROM. So far I have no complaints. Speed is comparable to Indra's Beta 5 without anything installed. Both your ROM (Ivan) and Indra feels a little faster than JWright's 1.90.96. What I like about your ROM is the clean look it has, like an official Microsoft released ROM. Thank you for this ROM.
thank you
my very first upgrade
works perfect
Thanks, I'll try it later this week (currently running your beta14)
One Question: you mention
'No Extended Rom needed anymore'
in your changelog. Does this means I no longer have to unlock the Ext_Rom manually? Is it available for use right after flashing, or am I misunderstanding something here?
thanks, very very good work, but this is a transitory rom... well.. when the great change?
Some screen shots plz

But that happened on beta 14, too. Seems to be an MUI issue.

Sorry, what is "German MUI issue"?
Thank you...
I do not have the issue of the disconnecting Wifi (the reported "bug")?. So for me an excellent ROM.
Great job once again!!
When I reset the Qtek 9000 I received the message
" sddaemon.exe not present!! "??
Many Thanks
I have installed this rom, after some hour of use the memory ram comes down under 15 mb and must make a soft reset ,but this is normal? someone of you has tried wisbar?for me qtek9000 it is a fantastic device if I resolve the problem of ram ((

Hehe... Don't sweat it. My RAM virtually never goes higher than 12 MB and I have no problems running any applications at all. Cheers!
Camera
Thanks for the update. I'm just wondering how come "New Camera 3.00 still says 22844 instead of 22864 for beta 15? Please let me know. Thanks!
Report on the new ROM (upgrading from O2 UK 1.30.162 ROM):
Booting seems much faster (after installing several apps and having rebooted it a few times). I guess this is due to RAM disk.
True VGA mode is waaay much better than 1.30.162 ROM - system fonts are properly aligned and the only problem I found so far is battery settings and dial pad (the latter is fixable with vinay's application).
Speed and responsiveness seems to be better than my previous O2 AKU2 ROM.
There are a few problems though:
there are some compatibility problems - like InterKey virtual keyboard causes hangs every now and then and it was working perfectly well with AKU2
Battery life seems to be worse than AKU2 - before I had my device on standby with blootooth enabled for the whole working day (8:00-18:00) with an hour of reading with Haali reader and it was hardly below 80% (75 or around). Now it was down to 70 % in the first few hours. And for the curious - I did checked all the usual stuff (receive all beams - off and so on)
Other than that - great
I have installed this ROM, it seems perfect.
I have now tried all the Roms (Helmi, Indra, Jwright, Ivan) and believe I have the solution for a stable upgrade. Individually they all work well give or take speed issues and forgetting inherent bugs we discover in beta versions.
However when we cross platforms - IE go from an Indra Imate base to a Helmi O2 base is always when I have struck real problems. I had been using Jwright's Imate 96 version for a month or so and just swapped to Helmi AKU 3.5 1.3. After flashing the Helmi ROM I had awful problems from pathetically slow response to the unit completely freezing after installing several large applications. However after a 100 or so hours of extensive experimentation I have several key reccomendations that form the solution.
Now I can say the Helmi 3.5 is blisteringly fast and stable followed by Indra & then Ivan and Jwright in the AKU 3.2 flavours. By the way I have also attached with this post my extended ROM that I am currently using with Helmi and it works a treat! (Basically it is many useful applications from Jwright's rom like Candello, loaded into Helmi less any incompatable applications.) Speaking about incompatable applications I can now unequivicably warn you NOT to load the following applications in the 3.5 flavour ROMs: (EVEN IF THEY APPEAR TO WORK)
Battery Pack Pro (no versions)
Resinfo 1.5
Voice Commander 1.5 (NOTE: 1.6 IS OK!)
Device Lock
Sprite Backup - current version (IT DOESN'T RESTORE PROPERLY - USE SPB BACKUP INSTEAD - ALSO ATTACHED)
Here is my list of recommendations as a professional systems analyst:
1. Before flashing the new ROM reset the existing one to its default factory settings but dont let the extended rom load. (IE reset again when the "will customize in 3 seconds" message appears)
2.After flashing the new ROM (and resetting it by pressing both softkey application hardware buttons & reset then selecting '0') THEN FLASH IT A SECOND TIME! (I don't have any scientific evidence to support this but I know it works a treat! - maybe some old registry settings or system files are not properly overwritten.)
3.Only load ONE APPLICATION AT A TIME then softreset then if the PPC is still working perform a backup using SPB BACKUP ONLY. (This way you also find out straight away if you have an incompatable application and then you can go and restore your last good SPB back up - without going back to the beginning!)
4.Using the supplied registry editor DELETE any Today plugins that you donot use. (Search for either 'TODAY' or 'ITEMS'.)
Lastly regarding memory leak. I am not convinced this occurs in any of the roms tested. Remember WM 5 - all AKUs uses persistent storage so movement in and out of memory will vary constantly and appear to alter for no reason because it needs to. (Helmi's 3.2 1.2 rom is a good example where the memory movement seemed far less than the others but I found this rom unusable one I loaded nearly 2gb of applications onto the storage card.)

Took a deep breath and start to try out your recommendations... despite that my device looks work quite well... but I always hope that good things can be even better
Alternatively, unlock your extended rom, and delete all the files in it, hard reset, then flash with the new rom of your choice.
It has the same effect, only quicker.
Hello,
I've searched around but have been unable to find an answer to my question.
A few months ago I decided to jump from WM5 to the official HTC release of WM6 on my TyTN (Hermes 200):
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1437 (Build 17944.0.3.1)
ROM version: 3.54.255.3
ROM date: 07/05/07
Radio version: 1.48.00.10
ExtROM version: 3.54.255.104
Right away I noticed that after browsing on IE Mobile for a short period of time, memory runs out (Program) and has to be shutdown...
(example: was on this forum earlier following a thread and went from 26 MB down to 1 MB in 15 minutes.... No other program running in background.)
Storage memory also takes a hit and can only climb back up to a measly 15 MB after I clear history, cookies, and delete web content.
Needless to say, it's a pain in the ass. Never had this issue with the Rogers branded WM5 ROM.
Has this issue been resolved with 6.1 and can someone confirm this? Would like to make sure before I move ahead...
Thanks in advance,
C
hi there,
i've been using WM6 and WM6.1 now, but i've nvr had ur problem b4.. if i do start up IE, it would eat my memory for sure.. but after i close it, the memory will be freed..
i think its because u did not close all running programs wen u start IE.
my 2 cents.
not experiencing with this problem, you probably gone with the official rom with extended programs installed.
I find recently that if I flash with original shipped ROM first then the cooked ROM, it seemed to be good after that. There are a few chefs around. CRC is for one is good, PDA Corner, Marahox, and PDAViet & Co are also good. You need to try those out and select your preference.
No memory leaks with any of the WM6.1's flashed since January!
Are U running Oxios Hibernate? U should run it at least daily to free up memory...
Also, make sure that you have a task manager like WkTask so that you dont leave any running apps in the background.

If there is no memory leak, there shouldn't be a need to run Oxios to free up memory?
Hi
I've a HTC P3300 which I bought 3 months back. It came with Windows Mob 6 Pro on it. But its kinda slow, on a hard reset, it shows free device memory as just 25MB out of 37.36MB and Program Memory is hardly more than 20MB free out of 47.90MB. The product page on HTC site says ROM is 128MB & RAM is 64MB in the device. So I'm a bit confused, I got it from an HTC dealer & its not branded or locked to any carrier.
1) Is this due to the current default Windows ROM on device that these numbers are so low?
2) Will using another Windows ROM (maybe a Vanilla one) will use less space on device & keep more RAM free? If yes then which WM6 Pro or WM6.1 Pro Vanilla ROM is recommended? I would also like .NET 3.5 compact on it, shall I install that seperately myself?
3) How can I backup my existing Windows Mob ROM so that I can later put it back on the phone to make it in the same condition as I got it from dealer?
This is my first Windows Mob phone & I've not flashed a ROM before. Any help would be most appreciated.

I've already gone through the Wiki yesterday before I put the thread here. The wiki has answer only to my 3rd question about backing up the existing ROM but it has no mention if I'll be able to install it back the same way any other cooked ROM is installed ie., by connecting to PC via Active Sync and then executing the EXE file in the ROM folder on PC.
Does no one here feel like helping out??
1) The numbers on the box are 'total size' and they are calculated in multiples of 1000.
Just as with storage media. The computer on the other hand counts in multiples of 1024.
This means that 64MB on a label is in reality 61MB. Some of that is reserved by the OS so you can not see it and some is taken up by various services and apps that run on startup.
As for the ROM the '128MB' (122 MB in reality) is both the area available for storage and the area taken up by the OS (were it is installed).
So the numbers you get are pretty normal.
2) There are some minimal ROMs that reduce both storage and RAM usage and improve performance.
3) Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the procedures for your specific device and with the ROMs available for it. I recommend you look in the forum section dedicated to it for more information.
Thanks for the replies levenum. Your reply to #1 pretty much confirms what I've read here hanging around & at some other places, though at first I thought that there was some problem with my device with it showing just 40MB out of 128MB!!
I'll look around for procedure & ROMs.
Hi,

This will help for sure!!
I have installed SDHC-Artemis.cab (119.4 KB) and now 8GB HDSC card is working on my Artemis [HTC P3300 - windows 6.0 pro]!
Im yet to do performance benchmarking but by running media and other files i felt it is as fast as my old 1GB card.
~~~ Thanks a lot for the patch!
Steps i have followed:
1. copy this patch to Pocket PC
2. Switch off and Remove existing card (if any)
3. Boot and install patch.
4. Using desktop computer/laptop, format the new 8GB card as FAT32
(and copy all media and other files you want; its faster )
5. Switch off and insert 8GB card.
Hi,
Re-checked, just install a Kingston 4GB SDHC and the process works perfectly.
.... Thanks ....
SDHC upgrade from 2Gb default to 4Gb - Success
As a newbie around XDA Forum, I have been searching the Net and most other place for ways and means to improve my beloved Artemis.
This is one way that works - first try. I have attached a log, for other noobs to follow. (I may be a noob here and on other WM // PDA / WinDev sites, but as to my age, am 42 and moving on rapidly. 90% of IT that I know and have applied over the years, have been self taught. Currently employed as Wireless Network Engineer). For those who need to improve these (P3300 - Artemis) devices, do this, follow these steps, you will gain lots of space - now I will load apps on my device and test performance.
Main reason for much needed extra space, I run some apps which require MS .Net CF2, others .Net CF3 / 3.5. Owning this phone now since September 2008, I have discarded the TomTom, mainly use GoogleMaps, various other gps related apps, to log trips, visits and pinpoint sites - very accurate re : up to 28 digit grid reference, altitude, speed - horizontal and vertical. Also quite handy for FTP, RemoteDesktop, Skype (relatives in UK and Denmark, friends all over), WiFi, RAN network Benchmarking -{still trying to find an app that works more scientifically on WM6 - one that does not require a Nokia, although I like my N78 as well.
Before I forget and maybe go to bed, Thanks to POF, tom_condon, binuvs, indiacam, juliuscezar, Shady313, and many more members here and over at htcpedia and dhakamobile. Your insight, experience and willinness to provide comments are appreciated.
I have surfed, searched and FOUND. Now to cook my first ROM....
regards
My logfile of the process is not uploaded... I will gladly supply it to any newbie who wants the process explained in simplest steps. If you can read and use Google Translate, it will be easy - 25minutes or less.
regards
