I have a T-mobile HTC Touch Pro 2 that I paid to unlock and am about to resell it. I want to reset it back to factory settings using the volume up/down method. Will doing this return it to a locked state or will it still be unlocked?
it will be unlocked. also it only reset the current rom. So if you have a custom rom then hard reset will give you a clean install of that rom
I havent installed any other roms on it..just factory instalation..but I want to erase all of the messages..internet settings ..and phone numbers...ok..thanks

Yes, following the steps you mentioned is known as a "hard-reset", and will erase all user data and apps put on the phone since it was new (or since the last hard-reset). However it will still be 'unlocked' (assuming you're referring to a SIM- or carrier-unlock).
FYI, you can also perform a hard-reset simply by choosing the "clear memory" icon in start>settings.

Ok I noticed something and feel free to mention it if i've missed something, but when you do a factory reset from the stock rom, after the first boot up ALL the data is cleared, including specifically what phone number the phone is programmed for, meaning the first setup prompt has you do the activation call. However, I made my own custom rom with dsixda's rom kitchen, but when I do a factory reset from the custom rom, It doesnt ever ask me for this activation call, just procedes with the normal setup, Is that something that CWM or the custom rom simply cannot do? Or am I missing something? It seems like wherever this specific data is being stored is not being cleared. I've formatted all the partitions in the recovery menu and done a dalvik cache and data reset, still cant figure it out, its the only thing that I dont quite understand. It's not that I really need it to do the activation call but it's kinda a reassurance that EVERYTHING has been cleared (yea i'm kinda OCD about phone flashing and stuff) just hoping I missed something easy.
It will only do a true factory reset if you are on the stock recovery, as the wipe is performed from within the stock recovery on a stock rom. If you want to update your activation or make sure its fresh just dial *228 and select option 1.

There is no Verizon in my country, so I use the Droid Incredible with my local operator. It means that I bought and got the used unlocked Droid Incredible. In my first attemp of flashing I did the factory reset from stock and my local operator setting were gone so I can not make call, SMS and internet. Now I return it back to the seller to set my operator setting again. My question are: in what area the operator settings are stored? ROM, Radio...??? Will the operator setting be erased when I do factory reset from CWM? Will the operator setting be erased again when I flash another ROM? How to avoid of operator setting being erased when flashing ROM?
Opperator settings are always cleared when you do a factory reset from hboot or from within the settimgns menu in a stock rom. You can use the factory wipe in CWM without wiping programing.

I actually did not know that. Then again I never use the stock reset and probably won't knowing that info.

Well its not a big deal to wipe programing if your on verizon, you can just do a *228 option 1 (it will prompt you on first boot after reset). But if your on some other carrier it can really cause you some hastle having to take or send it to your current provider to get reprogramed as doing a *228 will try to contact verizon for programing. Im not sure where these settings are stored, as flashing a new rom or radio will not loose your programing so it must be stored below rom/radio level.

Today I get my Incredible back and I encourage myself to flash a custom ROM and of course I wipe everything in CWM. Yes...the operator setting do not change or wiped, I still can make phone calls, SMS and internet. Thanks cmlusco
After unlocking & rooting if I "Factory Reset" will my phone be again locked and unrooted and do I have to repeat the process again??? (I want to Factory Reset once, to make more internal memory with link2SD)
I unlocked and rooted my WFS by installing CWM Recovery method given on the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437545
Youll be ok you wont lose root or unlock mate
Yes, you don't lose the root if you do a factory reset, but if then you install a non rooted ROM you'll losed it

Factory Reset only clears your data partitions. Even if you flash a custom ROM, you'll still retain it after a factory reset. The user data will be reset along with the extra apps you installed.
Edit: I just realized that I am not in the Atrix forum but can't seem to delete the post. I apologize.
I rooted my Atrix 4g a couple of days ago and managed to unlock it yesterday. Now when the phone loads up I have lost root and continue to get "Can't establish reliable connection" when I try to add my Google account to the phone. Browsing the internet works and all things on the phone work except for what requires having a Google account (gmail, youtube login, android market).
I have read that the only solution to this is to do a hard reset. If I have unlocked am I safe to do a hard reset?
My other thought was to re-root and restore the Titanium Backup I took before unlocking. Maybe the system settings I saved would fix it? However when I go reboot to Fastboot and try ADB shell it no longer finds my device (USB debugging is enabled and my drivers must be up to date if I rooted three days ago).
If the easiest thing to do is just hard reset I am more than willing to do that I just need to know whether it is safe.
Help ! I own an LG G3 and randomly had a problem with the stock messaging app as it was failing and crashing, so then I decided to reboot my phone but as it rebooted, it was still the same except it had a stock background, no knock code, and my home + recent apps buttons do not function at all but show touch feedback... also when I long press my recent apps button it brings up the settings tab which it should do, which is odd, also my return/back button still works fine. I switched my background to my original one and enabled knock code again, then tried rebooting, hot booting, and powering off and on the phone but nothing worked it even reset my background again to stock and disabled my knock code. I can answer any questions other questions, Any help would be appreciated, Thank You !
Edit: Notifications do not show and the stock camera shortcut ( Hold volume down ) stopped working.
I'd probably try a factory reset if you haven't already. Also list your current software version and carrier info., which might be helpful to us in helping you.

Be sure to backup your messages/address book, that problem sounds like an excellent candidate for a factory reset solution.
redduc900, you have a private message from me.

It's a Sprint phone, software version LS990ZV4
I was gonna use that as a last resort, but I'll give it a try. Guess I'll have to reroot my phone... Again

Well, if you are rooted, you might try going into your custom recovery and wiping cache and dalvik-cache.
Since you suspect the messaging app, maybe wipe the data for that one as well? You'd lose all your messages, of course.

I don't have a custom recovery, whoops. The messaging app was fixed after the first reboot, which is when my phone booted that all the other problems occurred. Thinking of just backing everything up and factory resetting, although I wonder if I back up my phone and reset it then load my back up would the problem persist ? as maybe it stems off the soft/firmware, feel like this is the problem since the buttons show touch feedback but do not work.

Glad you seem to have it resolved.
BTW, a couple of notes and suggestions on best practices:
1. If you root and intend in any way on using the elevated permissions to modify your system, you should install a custom recovery, such as TWRP. This will allow you to backup your entire system at any time and restore in the event of an oooops! event.
2. If/when you have a custom recovery:
NEVER accept an OTA (over the air) update. It will bork your phone.
NEVER perform a factory reset from a stock ROM. It will bork your phone.
Hello everyone.
So I recently attempted flashing my CN ZF2 to WW and I followed the steps and everything from the Official Guide Here. Once I was done with the command prompts on ADB I unplugged my phone and restarted it. Once I plugged it back in I realized that my computer wouldn't recognize my phone. I restarted my computer and reinstalled input drives but I would still get no response. I even realized that I couldn't even take the phone off USB debugging. Every time I would try unchecking it from the settings menu the phone would automatically reset itself.
I thought I followed all the steps correctly, but obviously my phone is acting a lot different now and I really need someone to lend me some help. Thank you.

I'm trying to avoid factory resetting since it's quite a hassle setting everything up again on the CN model. Although, if there are no other options left I will most likely resort to it.

Just to be clear (based on above), a factory reset will not revert your device back to CN. It's a misconception, only because a typical user is not meant to tinker with system functions. The system is modified to WW, and there is no flip-of-a-switch to go back.
Rather, a factory reset will just wipe your cache and userdata (so you will need to set your apps back up again).

I am aware, but thank you. I never successfully flashed my phone to WW so a hard reset will still revert it to it's original CN settings.
You could try just clearing your cache from recovery to see if that helps. Just be aware it takes ages and will appear to be doing nothing so whatever you do don't try and power off the phone because you think it is stuck.
BTW why do you want to convert to WW? You can root, unlock boot loader, flash TWRP , change kernel, install xposed, install playstore etc on the CN firmware.

I have an old Verizon Note 4 that I'd like to give to my wife's bed ridden grandmother. She could really use something to pass the time and talk with friends.
I wiped the phone to remove all my old stuff. I rebooted into recovery mode, wiped the cache partition and did a factory reset. When I rebooted and started to configure the phone it gave the message:
"The phone is locked because of an abnormal factory reset. Sign in to the Samsung account that was previously used on this phone to confirm that it belongs to you."
I never had a Samsung account, and I don't want to start now. I think the best course of action is to install a custom ROM. I dislike all the Samsung bloatware anyhow.
But I can't boot this phone because I can't get past this "abnormal factory reset" screen (presumably it's an anti-theft thing?). How can I install a custom ROM on this phone? Everything I've read says that I already need to have root before installing the ROM, which seems impossible since I can no longer have access to this phone's OS.
How can I proceed?
Dou you have TWRP? If not, make Odin Download Mode, put Rom Stock, and try again... root/unlock bootload/Twrp/customrom, etc
