Just had a dinner with a friend of mine who is the main distributor for HTC in Europe, and he informed that they will receive the first shipment of Touch Pro3's this summer and they will be on sale in Europe third quarter of this year. This is my main contact for HTC devices and he arranges a Touch Pro2 for me 4 months before it was officially released...He told me that the device will be much smaller and thinner, and soon he will provide me with the evidence including the full specifications Do you guys think this would be something you would purchase or would you rather wait for the Windows Phone 7?

I'm not crazy about WP7, at least the initial release of info. They've killed everything that was great about WinMo and opted for the locked-down, iPhone-like, walled garden approach. I'd love a TP3 with WM6.5.3, more RAM, and a Snapdragon processor...and US 3G bands.
That kind of processor does sound pretty sweet. And the capacitive touch screen. But no hardware keyboard... I don't know what I'd do without it, but thats just me.

Definately but it would have to have the hard keyboard, otherwise it wouldn't be a touch pro would it?!
totally agree with dwboston ...I'm with 6.5.# with better specs Not sold on windows 7 at all so far.

It would be a Touch or HD...The main reason I would buy TP would be because of the hard keyboard...
I'll wait for the first Windows 7 Phone that includes a decent keyboard. Hopefully HTC, but would consider SonyEricsson as well.
I won't be touching a Windows phone ever again after this.
TP2 was a major disappointment for me because of OS, underpowered processor, and (nit picky) the fact that Telus (Canada) would release the version that does not work on their HSPA network.
I'll be swapping to Palm / webOS -- ideally the newer model that will be launched around the same time with a larger display.
Do You Think Screen Shots Will be Released Soon?

I think it would depend on what those specs are... and have a hw-keyboard, of course. I wouldn't buy if all I knew was the name "TP3".
Seriously doubt if I'll be having anything WM again unless something spectacular happens. I like the TP2 hardware but WM really disappoints. I read somewhere that the HD2 is a wonderful piece of hardware crippled by it's software and that's how I feel about the TP2.
Android for me next I think
theres no pictures or specs or anything of the touch pro 3. theres no reason we really need wm7, it doesnt seem to bring much besides a new interface. ill still have my touch pro 2. and if i still have it while the current version of windows mobile dies, i hope android will be as close to 100% running on it as possible. i hope i dont get pushed into buying an iphone.
I would go for HD2+keyboard as TP3..thats my simple & easiest solution for HTC..

Same here. Actually that would be my only replacement for my tp2.
windows phone 7 4 me
The only negs have found with TP2 is
1. Weight ... but it gives a solid feel
2. Faster processor
3. The zoom bar is quite useless - either make screen bigger/create a 'dpad'/make device smaller (not screen)
Have installed ZoomBarPlus today so will see if use the zoom bar more
Other than that very happy with TP2 ...nothing else on maket that would even consider at the moment
i don't see how the tp3 would be the 'upgrade' from tp2, or even tp1 if it's the htc tera as rumoured and specs are indeed as leaked
in fact, it seems like a downgrade and a complete disgrace to the 'touch pro' line (although it only consists of 2 phones, 4 if u include the tytn and tytn 2)
wqvga and a 600mhz qualcomm cpu which STILL doesn't have proper drivers? oh c'mon HTC. our patience is running out
Isn't this old news? Also HTC Thropy is cming this summer. The Debug ROMS are already out on the web....

That's Trophy, I assume...
Only if the TP3 has a processor on crack
I gotta agree that unless the physical specs are much better...such as a processor on steroids, I am quite happy with my TP2.
I like the solid feel, I absolutely LOVE the physical keyboard...and I am perfectly happy with 6.1 as it is super stable (even though 6.5 is prettier). My only complaint is the processor...I want a processor on crack!! Give me that while keeping all the faboo things about the TP2 and I may consider getting a TP3...otherwise, no way!!
As for WinMo7...not impressed with the info out there about it...sounds like a step backwards!!
Tera
I don´t think we will see any Touch Pro 3 in 2010, perhaps in 2011...
As for Tera, I don´t think it´s an upgrade for Rhodium

we know for it long time ago
but ""RAM capacity: 64 MB"" ???
will it be on T-Mo US?
A friend of mine said there's some upgrade to the mda coming on T-mo and it's in blue. I wonder if this will be the device. I'm on T-mo USA and get great service, but Cingular gets the better devices. I can't switch to cingular because T-mo is the only one that gets any service in my apartment...note even cingular, which is also gsm.

I'm sure this phone has Sirf III GPS too, but it didn't say that on the linked page. Actually considering that the Hermes has been out, I think this is a bit of a disappointing upgrade...
Same RAM, same QVGA screen, slightly better cam (but HTC cams are crap anyway), got WM6 on hermes already... YAWN!
yep, nothing really to upgrade for... still keeping an eye out for a new device though, none have really caught my eye. If i don't find anything soon, a treo 750 could be the winner.

No SiRF III GPS, same "GPS One" which is built-In the Qualcomm 6275 co-processor in a simillar application as on the HTC Trinity.
At least this are the current plans and since launch is not that far from today (in R&D terms) it is fairly sure to belive this is not going to change.
More reading on GPS One and Qualcomm 6275 here:

well,
im getting the imate Ultimate 7150 when it comes out.
it doesnt haven built in GPS (i use my globalsat anyway), but the other specs blow everything else out of the water.
ETA mid 2007.
I'm with you on the 7150 JJ, any expectation of porting black 6.5 onto it or do other phone manufacturers make it harder to flash than HTC?
Well I needed to hear reasons not to jump to the Kaiser and I got them. Honestly I like the Tytn's front and very smooth face buttons. The Kaiser's buttons looks like the Cingular 8525 which is too japanese looking for me. I prefer sleek european design personally. Also I wonder if theres a postive to having the GPS reciever un attached as it uses it own battery and saves us that power problem, in addition to having the latest Sirf Star chipset.
I work for OrigenAE and its funny but the Tytn reminds me of our S21T HT PC especially with the Aluminium accent although I wish the entire phone was one solid piece of Aluminium liek our cases. By the way any of you get electro staticly shocked when you touch youre Tytn? Happened to me twice and getin worried it may do damage. HA I have never goten shocked with my S21T case ever!

T-mobile Wing
T-mobile is releasing a new device might call the wing aka HTC Atlas. Please check the link below for more information.
www.mymobile911.com
Looks very simmilar to the Kaiser but a 201mhz processor WTF? and the screen doesnt pivot up like the Kaiser either. I like the USB cover! but another part to wear off. Honestly the Tytn (not 8525) looks very smooth for years to come again not all plasticy and crap.
Now, my question... When the keyboard slides out, is the Hermes considered Left-handed, or Right? What about the Wing, or Kaiser for that matter? And why the difference??
I just heard about this today from my friend at cingular. he said the next ppc would be out mid summer. i like the screen tilt.

Agreed, but I was not sure it was that much bigger than the 7150. I have my eyes on the 7150 as well. I guess I better look closer
I'll take your TyTN's
If you want to jump ship to the Kaiser. I've looked over the specs, and besides being a bit thinner, and the fancy flip, no diff. We're getting WM 6 for TyTN (but still will run black, need something to load on it when I sell on eBay).
Anyone looking at the Advantage may see a dis-Advantage in the size and weight. (pun intended, sorry). For me, the TyTN keyboard makes it the ideal device.
I don't think they have made the device that I'm actually going to fall in love with yet, but the TyTN comes real close.
Hermes bigot and proud of it.

According to Engadget Mobile, AT&T will have its own versions of the Touch Pro2 and Diamond2. Some old, leaked documents indicate that these devices will come to AT&T (soon!):

This is a leaked, most likely internal, document that summarizes its features, specs, selling points, etc. Unfortunately, as expected, AT&T butchered the keyboard from the original offset keyboard, which is a huge selling point for this device. Head on over to Engadget to read the full story. See the photographs here. Notice the "WM 7.X refresh awarded with Sept 09 launch date", it seems that this device will be upgradeable to WM7.x, although I doubt it will come in September, considering the amount of delay they've had with WM7 so far. And although it might be the proximity sensor, there also appears to be a camera on the front of the device.
One point that the article makes is that the "Fortress" will most likely NOT be released on the 25th of May according to the documents, but will probably be released later, because these documents are old and most likely outdated in terms of ETA to the network. 'Tis a very exciting day for AT&T subscribers everywhere!
Dave
PS: If this is old news, or has been posted already, please feel free to take this post down, Mods. Thanks.
I'm an ATT man, and it looks like I'll be shopping for something unlocked.
I just saw this on a twitter post from pocketnow.com and it really made my day!! I don't know if I'm digging the red keyboard. and the offset keyboard is really completely gone huh..that was a major selling point for me. but it's ok I guess. I'm still gonna get the phone.
so it'll get the 6.5 upgrade AND the 7.x upgrade when it comes out?? sorry if it's a common sense question I just wanna make sure.
Probably same here, but it's still big news for a lot of people.
Besides, since this supports AT&T's networks, it most likely means that there will be an AT&T compatible unlocked version from HTC, which I had been doubting would come.
@poppinpengawen: Nobody really knows for sure when, but the most likely answer, according to this, is yes. Besides, even if not, that's practically the reason why cooked ROMs were made.
Dave
haha yea, you make a good point. I'm sure that the cooked roms will end up being better than the actual upgrades offered thru AT&T/HTC. but at least we know that it'll be upgradeable to the new versions of WM, even without a cooked ROM [:
I knew ATT would mess up the phone, but never thought theyd mess it up THAT badly. I'm sticking with getting an unlocked, offset keyboard version.. that one looks horrible.
Mod Edit: For Language
Whatever, Id rather have a GSM F'd up Touch Pro2 than some jank CDMA Touch Pro that I cant use overseas.
Honestly, I dont care that AT&T changed the keyboard, because unlike Verizon, they actually dont physically weaken their phones. That plus GSM makes AT&T the best US carrier.
Why unlocked?

hmmm I'd wanna get an unlocked one too as long as it supports the AT&T 3G bands. but I think I'm just gonna stick with the AT&T subsidized version. gotta save money I guess.. /:
uhh.... Why have the Y and the Z key changed places?
Also, the keyboard doesn't look so good compared to the unlocked version.
Very interesting point, I hadn't noticed that before. A little Wikipedia-ing led me to this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTZ. It explains that this keyboard configuration is used in Central, Eastern, and German speaking parts of europe. I'm not entirely sure what this means, but it's really weird, that's for sure.
Dave
http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=7454
the post talks about the switching too. the device pictured isn't even branded for AT&T, so it could be any other HTC device. maybe the keyboard won't be as bad then huh?
No, the keyboard will probably be worse than this if these aren't real. You'll probably have to crank some crank on the side of the phone 100 times before you can use it, or the letters will spontaniously re-arrange themselves randomly every 10 minutes. AT&T always, ALWAYS, ruins the keyboards.
Dave
I hope its before july

I agree with Dave. If this isn't it, it will probably be worse.
Has any one seen anything from the FCC or, does a standard HTC GSM unit qualify the Att unit.
With CDMA and GSM support it looks like Sprint is still the carrier to beat for this device. I would add the keyboard configuration as another reason, but it's looking more and more like the keyboard won't look like this. Not only are there mistakes in the layout, but zooming in on it it doesn't even look like those are real keys. The whole thing looks like a Photoshop project to me.
I don't see in the specs that a front facing camera is included but is shown in the picture. This also makes me think this is not representative of what ATT will actually release.
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/htc-fortress-slide.jpg
in that pic is states 5 row qwerty keyboard. maybe the pic of the phone is just a render and not final?
the ad also says its only 16mm thick, but the touch pro 2 is supposed to be 17.3 mm thick. that would be awesome if they made it thinner.
So I noticed this article, basically, it comes with windows mobile 7 and supports both EVDO and HSPDA, it supposedly has a different chipset to. It's obviously going to cost more to. Can anyone tell me if this is worth waiting for?
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=3664
Windows Mobile 7 isn't developed yet. Microsoft just finished 6.5.
So I think it will take some time untils Microsoft will realease WM 7....
yea it says not at least until quarter 3 the phone will be released
The slides were leaked in march, but there's no indication of when they were MADE. It's entirely possible that it is the Touch Pro2 we know and love, but that things have changed since the slides were made and/or the early product slides contained some errors (as was the case with some ATT slides on the HTC fortress).
I wouldn't consider waiting for it until I knew for sure that it existed. With that said, I assume Windows 7 is the selling point for you. Personally, I never like getting an OS brand new. Too many growing pains. I let other people adopt it first, iron out all the wrinkles, and then 12 months later, once they're done paying extra for the privilege of beta testing I get the finished stable product for less.
Everybody's different, and especially if there's a specific feature in a new OS someone can't live with out, it might be worth the hassle of early adoption. But I would encourage people to not automatically assume the newest version will be the best for their needs.
Where do you get the Idea, it's not the rhodium? I don't see much of a diffrence. I've seen this pics before and at that moment they did represent the touch pro 2.
It's probably a typo.
Probably should read 6.x, possibly .x as it'll be either 6.1 or 6.5

3.4" screen, winmo 7. Chipset looks like "7600", although it is scrunched a bit. @Phil, I don't think we're looking at typos so much as early/sketchy drawing board specs. If this sheet were made last year before OS delays, windows mobile 7 might have seemed doable.

I think your probably right actually, it's probably an old spec sheet.
Considering HTC are probably working internally on devices that they plan to release in the next few years, have them completed at least several months before release (time to test/finalise specs/release to manufacturing) and probably announce them to networks way before we find out about them so there is time to negotiate sales contracts etc chances are that's all this is.
That's the Sprint version of the Touch Pro 2. It's based off of the Rhodium nomenclature but is built differently. Also Windows Mobile 7 has been taken off in favor of 6.1 upgradeable to 6.5. The device is EVDO Rev A and HSDPA for 2100 and 900 bands only which means only usable in Europe and Asia. As far as I know, it's still sporting a 3.6" WVGA screen since the size is almost the same as the current GSM Touch Pro 2 except slightly thicker. This is actually pretty old news. HTC has a separate code name for this one except I have to take a look at the presentation I have somewhere in my files.
the device does exist, here are the device infomation taken from my device:

I think this is the touch pro 2, just an old document that is now outdated, I doubt that they would make two phones with the same code name, and also the phone in the picture looks like the touch pro 2 but has a smaller screen and less ram so in some ways it seems worse than the touch pro 2, so if ti is a real phone i would say no

So I'm wondering what the concensus is. Are we going to see this or not?
The official word is obviously that there will be no upgrade for the HD2, but people seem to have hope in the community here. I'm not much of a dev/hacker to know for sure, so I'm wondering what you guys think...
The issues I'm hearing are:
Hardware buttons
GPU
On-board storage
Upscalling
The hardware buttons are obviously a non-issue. And from what MS is saying, despite not being able to swap out memory cards, SD storage can be used by OEMs to supplement on-board storage. But I dont know about the GPU and upscaling. Are these built in to the HD2 already? Is the upscaling a hardware or software issue? Are these things a deal breaker??
This would be most excellent if so,I just picked up a HD2 last night and even though I am back to edge speed ( which is not a real issue for me,lots of wifi around.) I LOVE THIS PHONE !!!
Man this thing is making me giggle like a school girl.....
I don't see anyone NOT putting it on there, especially when it hits America (If it hasn't already that is)
HOWEVER, i highly doubt you will want to use it. THey are going the iphone route. NO more File explorer and open source and multi tasking. All the things that made WinMO popular are apparently disappearing.
Disappoints me really. I jumped on the Android train. My first PDA was a dell X50

that's what im doing, 4 more days! cannot wait to get my hands on this beast!
All because of $$ !!
M$ want more developer to developes more app and game for WP7S, in order to do that, u need to convince developer that they can make $$ for the app. Currently it is to easy to get craXXk app for WinMo.
M$ learnt the good idea for iPhone by locked down the system so u can only purchase from App Store. By doing these, M$ will stand good chances to complete will iPhone (Gen 4) in the future.
My only wish is : Hopefully M$ don't be hash on XDA, cos i believe XDA will make something interesting from WP7S for HD2 ... i believe.
Althought I'm glad others are showing interest, I was hoping to make this a technical discussion around the facts of whether it can or cannot happen. And maybe at this point the answer is "we dont know." But hopefully we'll get more answers in time...
I think the question is not whether or not the HD2 will receive the upgrade to 7. Officially or unofficially, I think its just a matter of time. May not be as soon as youd like, but I't will get there. Its more a question of how relevant the HD2 will be be the time win7 is made available to it. Also, will there be able to be some kind of dual boot option available. The way 7 is shaping up, I'm not too enthused about only having 7. I would use 7 for gaming, social use, and winMo 6.5 when I'm looking to get my hands dirty.
Is it a Tomtom icon we can see? is the old version or is tomtom already developpe a new one in Sylverlight?
AFAIK that image is simply a skin over the top of WM6.5 rather than WM7s, so it is a current tomtom app

No, that image was published on winmo.nl during the Barcelona unveiling of WP7, long before any WP7 skins were created.
Right now it looks like it was either fake (just an HD2 showing a WP7 picture on its screen) or an early development version of the OS, not destined to ever be released on the HD2.
Winmo.nl claimed the TomTom app worked fine on WP7, possibly because 'tomtom was already preparing their software for WP7'.

It'll probably be iPhone 5g before WP7 will be any threat. iPhone 4g is probably coming out in June/July, a few months before WP7 is even out.
Though the HD2 is a fantastic device and loved by anyone (incl myself) who lays their hands on it, you can't help but feel somewhat bitter that a device of such magnitude is just going to be ANOTHER HTC phone almost solely kept alive by xda-developers.
You can see MS's reasoning. You can love the sheer beauty of the HD2. But Jesus - think of the potential going to waste and how it comes across to consumers who hear 'hey, your device is outdated already'. Consumers that haven't even got the device available in their country yet.
One word - Flash. THAT'S reason enough to be at least a little pissed off as an HD2 user.
A joke, it is - but in XDA I trust.
unfortunately, HD2 doen't support WM 7, WM7 only support 3 solid buttons, no more, no less....
HD2 has 5 solid buttons, so...give up to upgrade to WM 7
If the HD2 has a WP7 test build running on it somewhere at HTC and it gets leaked the HD2 should easily get an unofficial upgrade but if that doesn't happen it won't be easy.

You're clearly new to this part of town...
camera hardware button is also a requirement...
an interesting key i found on my T-Mobile HD2 HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\WM7KeybdLayout.
Very strange indeed
I'm pretty sure hardware keys would be irrellivant to getting this on the phone.
My understanding of the key requirements are based upon the chassis version been used with WP7. I think these are basically stipulated purely for the user experience Microsoft are trying to give and not software limitations.

It'd be nice thats for sure... too bad there has been NO sign of something like this at all... and this hypothetical article was written in October of 09 :S I can only imagine how bulky a phone that big would be with a keyboard. I'd still do the upgrade though!
Here's hoping the next flagship winmo phone they come out with has a flash for the camera on top of a sliding keyboard as well. I cant believe they got rid of the flash from the touch pro. Stupid stupid stupid.
Actually, theres been very recent speculation about this device appearing. Of course it wont be exactly like the picture, but HTC are working on a HD2 + Keyboard variant.
Seems like a pretty safe assumption that they'll release a new high end slider this year, just like they have every other year.
so that brings us to the summer of 2010 for the HD2 Pro release.

Guess we can assume AT&T will get it some time in 2011 then
after microsoft dumbs down their os, it should be called the hd2-iphone...

Got a link to that recent speculation that you could share?
since im on sprint i want an EVO Pro
I'd say the HD2 is gonna be tmobiles flagship phone for a while. No other phone really comes close to it, except the TP2. And thats just a scaled down HD2 with a slide out. I would say the evo 4 would be a good candidate but with the 3 hours of battery life I don't think we can put it in the same group. Yes a couple friends got one and are shocked they have to start recharging on their lunch hour.

tmo is soon getting the nexus one and the garmin phone...
your friends must be new to htc devices if they are shocked by the poor battery life...since my 1st htc i have kept a charger by my bed, in the car, & at the job (when i used to work for "the man")
Why would any manufacturer release a new killer Windows Mobile phone at this point? Windows mobile is a dead platform. Windows Phone 7 and Android will be getting the high end hardware. A company would be moronic to release a killer device on a dead platform a mere couple of months before the launch of its replacement.

Am I the only one to notice that this image was created from a photo of the HD2 and the slide out keyboard "bottom half" of a TP2?

I don't understand your post, unless you meant Windows 7 PPC w/slideout.
The TP2 is a Windows PPC with slide out keyboard.
Don't hold your breath
Now that MS has gone to WM7 I do not expect anyone to make any new models that run WM 6.x. I think the TP2 is the last of the breed.
However, maybe people can adapt WM7 hardware to run a version of WM6.5.x. But I doubt it - the drivers would have to be re-written.
The main reason I've stayed with WM is all the applications I've accumulated over the years. Since WM 7 is NOT backwards compatible with previous WM software, I think that I may try a different OS this time.
Plus, others have posted that WM 7 is derived from Windows Vista. Who wants that?
I would have expected them to use Windows 7 as a base, but I imagine when they started WM 7 they only had Vista.
It´s really not important what OS will have as long as it´s a great device with REAL keyboard!
