[COMP]Confused Between HD2 and Desire, PLZ HELP - Desire General

I am looking to buy a new phone, have done a lot of research on HTC Desire and HD 2, love both of these phones. Will like to have HD2 with WM7, which isnt gonna happen. will love to have HTC desire, but hearing rumors its not gonna work with TMobile here in US. Not sure anymore what to do .. anyone plz help ...

Why dont you buy a nexus one and put the htc desire rom on it for the sense interface?

well, did my research about N1, not a bad phone. may b not that different than desire, except Less RAM and no radio, also read it having problems with screen, with scratches and cant be pocketed?
and How do i Transport Desire sense UI on Nexus 1
Sorry, found my answer ...

BTW, the screen of N1 is exactly the same as in the Desire.
regarding your concern between HD2 and Desire I think the question is wither you like WinMo or Android, ... I personally would prefer Android as its more stable and does not need alot of tweaking to make it stable (unlike WinMo devices)

I think he's referring to the article (on Engadget, I believe) about the guy whose N1 suddenly developed a majorly cracked screen while it was sitting on the desk charging, and that after contacting HTC, they said something about this possibly being due to too much pressure in tight pockets etc.

Move from HD2 to Desire?

Seriously considering making the move from the HD2 to the Desire... Anyone else thinking of doing the same?
No ...
Why moving to a smaller screen?
Never been so satisfied with a device, like with the hd2.
best decision windows is *****y and htc does not give updates for their windows devices
i will do like you i will ghange the hd2 with desire
I also did just put an order on a HTC Desire and I'll keep my HD2 and compare... let's see. However, I do admit that the HD2 screen size is what I like
I will also be making the switch and the main reason is messaging...i cant stand it on the hd2 and im afraid to say it, but it kills it for me.
in many sites people say that the hd2's is the best screen, better also then all amoled screen(n1,omnia HD ets)....so i think that Desire is a great phone but not better than HD2....
I won't be making the move to android yet, i still think that android has a way to go yet compared to windows mobile. Plus the hd2 has a bigger screen
I tried the HD2, but sadly it's too big for me. And a bit pricey, it costs around 600 € here. Amazing piece of phonery(nice word) tho.
So i'm sticking to Hero atm and getting Desire instead.
maybe a porting for android from desire to hd2, same specs, same resolution, no optic trackball but the project for porting android to hd2 will be more easy for the developers hd2 is great hardware, not so great windows
I love the hardware of the hd2 it really is just win mob which is bugging me after moving from the iphone 3gs.. I think I will give the desire a go as I have a buyer for the hd2. Any ideas if the desire is going to have a glass screen like the hd2?
Well for me it's deciding whether to go for the HD2 or the Desire!
My bro has the HD2 and I have played around with it, a big improvement over previous HTC devices (largely the capactive screen and processing power/extra memory I guess). But the device is just too big for my liking.
Also, as Ive mentioned on another post in this section, WinMo have been lagging quite a bit with the OS (still need convincing on WinMo 7).
Unless I can find a serious flaw with it (something that affects my personal usage), I'll be getting a Desire.
First part of the process is done. Already returned my HD2. The ghost typing was killing me. (I do alot of sms's).
Now searching for a replacement and the Desire looks very good...
Have to confirm if the screen has the same HD2 grid and dots... And the ghost typing issues.

Does the nexus one have the hd2 style grid and the ghost typing? I would presume if it doesn't then the desire wouldn't. I hope some good hands on reviews appear online soon!

did u not try the fix from this site to reduce the screen sensitivity while texting ?
I tried everything during the 3 weeks I had it. Hot fixes, patches, screen protector, less sensitivity screen, hard reset(s). In cold weather the problem was worse. Almost impossible to type sometimes.

You do get used to it... But when I sometimes use my 3gs which I gave to my partner it is just a dream to type with.. But then again she wishes she never sold her blackberry and new wants rid of the iphone and wants another bold.. So the iphone is going up for sale. It really is just down to personal preference and what works for one person is terrible for the next..

If you watch this video and look towards the bottom of the screen I think I saw the grid that htc use..

Now I have to figure it out about the mistyping issue...
It's Time to move 2 Android
I believe that is the time 4 me to move after 4 yrs with WM started with K-Jam & ends with the HD2. I'm already tired with WM despite the fact that HTC have done many improvements for the system. I loved the Desire from the first look and it will be my next smart phone.all I need stable OS
Bye Bye WM

Have decided to jump on the good ship N1;(

Loved everything about the desire, but found out that HTC are no better than Apple for locking down there phones and bricking people who want to flash custom roms;(
This goes against everything i thought the android movement stood for!
So HTC you should hang your head in shame for scaring people that want to tweak and customise their phones to there own spec... This whole usb bricking thing has now made me sell my Desire and im buying a N1....
HTC Stink and Google rule!!!
JD
Same thing can happen on the N1 too you know?
No it cant,
I have had a chat on twitter with paul tonight, its impossible to brick an N1
You can brick anything, from a PSP to a Nokia 3310, just different chances/issues.

Nothing's unbrickable - the N1 is just a lot harder!!
Yes, the problem with the Desire is that it "bricks" randomly without doing anything wrong apparently.
But I can promise you that if you update radio and pull out the battery during that on a N1, it will be bricked.
But that's not the sort of thing you're expected to do
hahaha
Yes very true
Well its very sad because i loved the desire, HTC killed the fun;(
Welcome to the world of N1))

Well, send me your phone and pay me $100, I can brick it for you (instructions included).
I am thinking of doing the same thing!
where and how much for did you sell your desire?
and where did you get your N1?
Don't forget to change your signature JupiterDroid!
I'm actually thinking of doing this myself. I love this phone, but without a stable root I just don't trust it. I just bought a great case for it as well! How much did you get for your Desire and where are you getting your N1?
Well thats not entirely fair is it? Yes there is a current issue with the flashing bricking phones but it's being worked on. When it get fixed and full root is acomplished (and i'm shure they will) it'll be just as "open" as the n1.
after all, if and when it's acomplished i'm sure i would miss the hardware buttons (i come from a touch hd and it is NOT the same!!) and maybe someday also the little bitty extra ram and personally, i prefer trackpad to trackball.
I get your frustration and you are entitle dto buy any phone you want but isn't this a bit exagerated?
Only my two cents!! Best of luck with the N1, it's a gras phone!
PS: maybe you shoud stick around and wait for Galaxy S (even if it is a Samsung!!!!)

dont forget that some people can decide if they buy or not this phone just because what you've just said. if its not exactly as you said or maybe just a rumor\guess\wishful thinking - you can make many people disappointed.

You do know that the N1 is also made by HTC, there's a reason they are so similar in hardware and design so they are not gonna care much which one you buy

ajeuk,
Yes, the N1 is made by HTC also. It's branded as a Google phone, but HTC built them.
I think I did read something about removing Sense from Desire to put it like a N1, and N1 can get on Sense from HTC if they "desire"...
Thought the N1 and the Desire were pretty much the same phone!
- I wouldnt jump ship unless I was getting the Galaxy S (although dont really like the look of it ... - battery life on it sounds very very good though...)

Your desire wears off?

Tricky title?
I don't know if this is the correct subforum... if not, mods please transfer.
Anyway... As many of you probably did, I have had many phones. The thing is that with my previous devices, the desire for them got lost in like a week after I purchased the device. But with the HTC Desire, I have kinda different feeling. I mean, I purchased my Desire like a month now, and I am not a bit bored by it. It still looks fun to me, and I still find interesting things to do with it. So, what is your opinions about this? How long did you enjoyed your new "shiny" device, and for how long you have been (are) enjoying the Desire?
I know for me the fact I can mould the phone how I want has played a huge part in keeping me interested. I usually upgrade to nokia E class phone, the E71 was my last phone, but coming from a linux fanboy the Desire feels like -my- phone just like my laptop is moulded exactly how I want it.
The fact its the first phone I've owned that has yet to struggle with anything I throw at it helps a huge amount too

Longer then the HTC HD2, BlackBerry Bold
This device is amazing indeed. I still have moments that I look at it and think... wow And soon Froyo will come, which will give you another few weeks of 'new enjoyment'. Also I still hope that the Android Market is going to start filling with great quality apps soon :0) Angry Birds this summer is a must have game.
And in Q4, Android 3 may be released and we can start enjoying that. (probably not from HTC, but from XDA) There is lots going on in the Android World!

I'm pretty much bored with it as I get with any phone once you do all with it you wanted. It becomes just another phone. The only difference with this one is that I'm hell angry on HTC for there build quality in general which covers everything from the poor UMTS reception to the stupid body design with button back light shining through micro holes under the screen.

Been happy with my HTC phones since I opened up a box of Magics and knew I was buying one by the end of the day. I've now had a Magic, a Hero and now my Desire and I always find something new to do or try out every week and that's without having rooted the phone. Before this I've had a S.E. W950 and after an E71 and while I've had my Hero I've had an iPhone and I've got to say that the iPhone has nothing on the overall features and abilities of even my Hero.

[Q] Desire or DesireHD?

so I pretty much decided I'm getting the HTC Desire over the Nexus one, but now with the Desire HD's release about 1 month away I'm debating whether or not to wait.
To be honest I'm in love with the HD's huge screen and looks, but looks alone don't cut it for me. I plan to jump on board the modding/rooting community as soon as I can (just starting out atm) and the Desire is the better choice when it comes to that since its been rooted and messed around with already.
I just worry that I will have to wait a very long time for the Desire HD to be rooted successfully, or it will turnout to be hard to hack and play with like the Nexus one and Desire as I want to try my hand at some hacking myself.
what do you think I should do?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: ok thanks everyone for the replies, I've pretty much decided to go with the Desire. I need a phone I can play around with right away so the Desire would be the better choice. Maybe in the near future when I need a new phone android phones will be more out of the box hacker friendly (hints @ HTC)
If I were you I'd take the HD, but after hTC's stunt with the T-Mobile G2, I'm not so sure at all. If you really want to customise your phone properly, then your best bet would be the Desire.
I'm after the HD now, as i'm a phone whore. So if you want a Desire £230 if you fancy it, unbranded, used but never damaged. Screen mint, phone mint. PM if your interested.

definetly a Desire. A guy at work got one today and i was well jelous until i saw it in the flesh.
The screen is bigger but the resolution isnt much higher than the desire resulting in a big average screen.
Obviously the cloud features are a benifit but no doublt a custom rom will turn up with them on sooner or later.
Aye. supposedly we're going to get the HD sense package for our desires in December too! w00t.

Hey, what do you mean by Free of Market Restrictions? (sorry for going offtopic)
I have a Desire and wanted a Desire HD. Until I noticed, it's not the hardware I want. It's the software.
I think the design of the Desire is better.
I also like the physical buttons more. (My mom got a Wildfire, I had using it cause I always accidently hit the capatative buttons).
I think the size is perfect. Sometimes I feel like I wouldn't mind if the Desire was bigger. At other times when using with 1 hand, I find it a bit big.
It's the nw HTC Sense that I noticed I REALLY want. And I'm gonna get that anyway. Officially or modded.

oh yeah, i heard that this feature was on the motorola Droid, had no idea HTC did that same thing to the G2. While the phone will most likely be sold here unbranded and unlocked, since I got Legend which was exclusively sold by vodaphone unbranded and unlocked, i think it will most likely be a built-in hardware feature regardless of whether or not its exclusive to a certain carrier. that seems to be the on going trend right now with HTC and other manufacturers.
___
at the moment the Desire seems to be the better choice for me, i was considering the HD version based purely on physical looks. after seeing the HD2 in person i loved the huge screen and i thought the Desire HD will be like a buffed up android version of the HD2. i know the Desire will eventually get the updated Sense UI so i have no worries regarding the software.
As for the camera, 5MP is good enough for me when i want to take pictures on the go, otherwise i bring along a real camera with me. I don't think phone cameras are good enough to replace an actual camera just yet.

I want to jump on the band wagon here cos im in the same boat, and this thread has thrown a spanner in the works!!
Ive currently got a rooted hero but lack the power from a 1ghz amongst other things....ive played in length with the Desire and genuinely love it, but its knocking on a bit now so am tempted to hold out for the Desire HD as the price is only £100 diff.
What are we saying about the new HD ? Is it likely to going to be a ball ache to do what the desire already does well.....dont get me wrong ill wait for the dev work to catch up but obviously if theres **** hard coded designed to prevent rooting is it gonna be worth it?
also im going unbranded this time....if that makes a difference (aside from the obvious lack of network restrictions!)
I'd suggest wait till the community has successfully rooted the HD, then decide
aww I was gonna go buy the Desire tomorrow, now I can't decide again haha
I can call HTC's distributor here and ask them when exactly the device will release here and how much it will be for. When i was comparing between the Nexus and Desire the price was almost the same but now there is obviously going to be a significant price difference.
I guess for me now it all comes down to the price and customization ability.
I've checked the Desire HD's forums and there seems to be a temporary root solution for it at the moment. Looks like they are still working on it.

Thinking of buying the HTC Desire...but..

Hi all,
I am thinking of getting one for my wife...however, I have been told the internal memory isn't a lot. Specially for games and apps. So just wanted to know if this really is a problem in a long run.
I quite like the screen size and the screen particularly, it's bright and beautiful.
Also, if I buy it now, some where in February, what OS version should i expect, upgradeable to what? I am not much is flash fanatic, so i am not going that way at all...
And also could someone be kind enough to sum up the pros and cons in less than a minute...
Thank you so much...
I would suggest to look for a better phone if you have the budget. Although a great hardware in its time, Desire is old and is obsolete now (it hurts me too say it but that's the truth. ). The last official Android version is Gingerbread. If you are not going to root and s-off, you will definitely have to complain about the memory storage.

just what I was afraid of...thanx a lot buddy...but the use it going to be moderate to low-heavy..like simply put, for games and all...nothing over the top...and some apps of course...
and as I am writing this, I am comparing it with the Desire S...it looks wayyy better...so what would you suggest? Desire S or Incredible. I don't have the budget for the Incredible honestly...but any known issues with the Desire S?
Yeah better a Desire S than the original Desire. Although I'm not quite sure if it will get an ICS upgrade in the future.
Game files right now are getting larger so Desire isn't really up to the task of storing several games plus other apps at once specially if you intend not to root it.

Thanx buddy...but no known issues with Desire S right that I should be aware of/expect?
There were some problems with the Desire S, but most of them were software-related and have been fixed, either by official patches or by independent parties such as the devs here on XDA. The main issue with the Desire S, however, is a hardware bug: some shipments have been plagued by random reboots. Some people even had to have their devices replaced 3 to 4 times until finding a stable unit. So if you decide to buy an S, please make sure you have at least SOME warranty left.
Hi, I wouldn't buy a HTC device at the moment except you really like the stable metal covers of HTC. But for me, Samsung has the best devices now in case of hardware and price performance ratio.
So long story short I would recommend you a Samsung Galaxy S Plus. The Motorola DEFY+ is also quite good.

Take your money and run, run as fast as you can, run as far away as possible from this phone.. scat! get outta here!! I never want to see you again! :'(
But in all seriousness... go for a newer phone, this ones almost 2 years old.
Today if I wanted to buy new HTC, it would be Sensation (not that XL or XE - I see just marketing move of HTC under these). I think it's the best HTC you can buy today.
As it was already said, Desire is too old today and in case of stock settings (no root or S-OFF) the memory status is really painful.

Thank you for your reply...If only you could tell me how to look for those issue-infected devices...like for ex. the Droid Razrs that were a pre-release units had a bad screen, date - 26th Oct...so is there a way to find out BEFORE purchasing a phone, manuf. date, make-country, etc...

I would if i could, but there's actually no way to tell. As i've already said, the reboots are completely random and HTC's solution for these is a mainboard replacement.
I don't know where the Desire S has been/is being made. The Desire was made in either China or Taiwan. My GF's Desire is made in Taiwan and it's visibly better built than mine, which is made in China. Both are PVT-4. So if that's also true for the S, i'd advise you to buy a Taiwan-made one.
