How to tell if my phone has been hard spl - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I bought my tp2 last year before it dropped here in the US.
I bought it from a company that said HTC sent them the phone as a tester or something along those lines and it was in a special box and so on when i got it.
Now i asked the guy a while back about the phone and he replied with this
(Yes you won't be able to do that please do not lock up the handset, you will want to use that bootloader when the ROMs start coming. FYI there should be wm6.5 uploaded on the net. I cannot disclose where but if you search you should be able to find it. Depending how the rom is cooked you should be able to flash it w/o any issues. The device will take custom builds)
How do i get it to bootloader so i can see tell what is going on with my phone?
I have not even upgraded to 6.5 yet because I have been so over trying to get it to work and my ROM FLASHER moved from LA to TX.
So i am entertaining suggestions, I have a mac too so that is why i have not been able to flash it myself.

Just turn the device completely off, then press the power button while holding the volume down button. You should see some lines of text, with the second line being your SPL version. Post it here, if you would. By the sound of it, your device is probably superCID and security unlocked, meaning you can flash any official HTC ROM that is signed by HTC. It's extremely doubtful that the device would have HardSPL considering HardSPL is kind of the opposite of HTC, and they wouldn't generally use the products their hacking community has created.
If you don't have HardSPL, you can always put it on your Rhodium and flash ROMs as you would on any other Rhodium.

Yeah it says
RHOD100 32M SS-BC
SPL-0.79.0000
and says Security Unlocked at the top of the screen.
So how can i change the windows to 6.5 or update the ROM all together to something far better? I tried to get it from the HTC site but when i enter my serial number it says that i do not have the right phone but thats not accurate.
Remember I have an apple computer so unless i can do it via SyncMate (not likely) i need other options.
Thanks loads

If you have a Mac and for some reason or another cannot get access to a Windows computer, you cannot HardSPL. However, since your device is security unlocked and superCID, you can still flash any HTC signed ROM, regardless of carrier or branding. If you don't HardSPL, then I would recommend flashing the 6.5 update for the unlocked European Rhodium, found here. If you would rather flash an official Rhodium ROM from another country or operator, a full list of Rhodium shipped ROMs is available here.
However, keep in mind that since you don't have HardSPL, you cannot flash from the SD card. This means you must flash using the included EXE, which probably means you need access to a Windows computer anyway (maybe you can flash using the EXE on a Mac one way or another, but I don't know how).
I would personally recommend finding a Windows computer to use so you can HardSPL once, whether it be a public computer, a friend's computer, etc. Once you HardSPL, you can flash official and custom ROMs, reduce your chances of ever bricking your device because of a flash, and flash your device with other ROMs via your microSD card, so you never need access to a PC again. This may seem like more work now, but it will save you plenty of time in the long run, since you can flash your device as much as you want without needing a Windows computer.

Ok i guess I have to go to Best Buy and get an open box computer or something.
Is there some place on here that will show a fast step by step on how to flash.
I go to the ROM section and its flooded with stuff saying do this dont do that. I would like to be able to the library, go to this site, plug in press a button that says make my phone the **** again, then sign off and come home.
Suggestions ?
Thanks

This is probably what you're looking for. It's a step by step tutorial for flashing HardSPL and custom ROMs, written for beginners.

Flashing How To

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473
well im changing this because of a request that a lot of people supposedly dont know how to flash. but i dont think that the link was doing anyone much good. so here is what is at the link (right now at least).
THIS IS ONLY FOR THE HTC CDMA TOUCH (VOGUE) !!
i know this first post here is now real long, but READ IT ALL before posting/pm'ing anyone. trust me, you will get through it all...every last word.
(dont get all scared either, this cant ruin your phone. if you are stuck at the htc boot screen, your device is not bricked. if you are stuck at a rainbow/tricolor screen, your phone is not bricked. have faith and patience! )
this method is for a pc running Microsoft Windows XP. if this is not your situation, still continue reading as there are methods for virtually every case.
ive been told that imcokeman's vogue unlocker will not work from a partitioned drive, though im not sure if thats the case.
if you know what flashing/the benefits of flashing are, skip this paragraph; if not, read on. flashing could be likened to installing a different Operating System on your PC. keep in mind, however, that when flashing roms to phones/pdas, the roms ARE DEVICE SPECIFIC. if you find an awesome rom for the titan and LOVE it, but you yourself have a kaiser, forget it. only roms made specifically for your device (and no, even if you have a cdma device, and they make a gsm version of your device, it still will not work) will work for your device. the benefits/advantages of flashing a custom rom onto your device are speed enhancements, addition/removal of programs/settings/reg settings you want or dont want.
now for how to..
for some slight insight on using a Mac, have a look down to the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM" after reading everything else, and/or go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ighlight=macos
for how to on Vista: look down to the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM" after reading everything else, and/or simply remove any sd cards you might have and follow below directions as normal, and/or go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292631
linux users: still read everything here, but have a look down at the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM"
for those who don't know this, flashing your phone also performs the same functions a hard reset would. all your previous apps, contacts, registry tweaks, etc will be gone. also, when you flash someone elses custom rom onto your device, keep in mind that they may have cooked in their own apps and registry tweaks.
ok, go ahead and go to this http://rapidshare.com/files/88767429/RUU.zip.html rapidshare link, and download the ruu.zip there. (if this does not work, navigate to \vogue\users on the ftp, and you should find "RUU.zip" there. if not, go to the folder there titled "jim256-jim2561" and you should find "RUU.zip" there.)
if for some reason you are unable to download the ruu from the above link/location, try my ftp dir here: ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/jim256 - jim2561
download whatever rom image you want
if the rom you download is in nbh format (something.nbh), read on and skip step 7.
if the rom you dowloaded is an exe (something.exe), read on and skip steps 5 and 8 (or use winrar or a similar program to extract the .nbh from the .exe)
then, get imcokeman 's latest vogue unlocker tool.
for those who arent sure, you never have to have ActiveSync synchronized for this to work. you just have to have it connected, with ActiveSync recognizing that the device is there and plugged in.
1. backup all contacts/data/etc..
2. ensure your device is connected to your pc via activesync.
3. run imcokeman 's vogue unlocker and follow ALL instructions in the command prompt exactly .
4. once you have booted back up into wm and are connected to activesync again (dont worry about setting up your device again because you're just going to flash it again and erase all that in a second anyway) extract the ruu.zip to somewhere convenient.
5. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF THE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AND NBH) stick the rom you downloaded (should be something.nbh -- if the file extension is NOT NBH, stop; this will get you nowhere. as i stated above, roms are device specific, you cannot install another devices rom to your vogue.) into the RUU folder from the rapidshare/ftp link.
6a. (power-camera reset) press and hold both the camera button and the power button (top), and poke the stylus into the reset hole. you should then be presented with the tricolor screen and near the top you should see something like coke 0.4.0 ( if you do not see the coke 0.4.0, then dont bother trying to flash your device. if it does not say coke 0.4.0, the device is not unlocked, and you need to start at step 3 again).
7. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF YHE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AN EXECUTABLE). run the exe!
8. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF THE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AN NBH) run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the ruu folder you downloaded and extracted.
9. follow the steps, be patient, be careful, and whala!
10. thank imcokeman and whoever you downloaded your rom image from.
good luck.
also, for all those that keep asking about this and are worried about this, yes, the version discrepancy is completely normal in the ruu before updating. it just means v1 of the cookers rom, so even if it is a version lower than 1.12.651.1, that is ok.
whenever you flash a custom rom, it says whatever they want it so say in the ruu, so even if it doesnt say 1.12.651.1, that doesnt mean that it is downgraded, it is just the version of the custom rom builders rom.
HERE IS THE BOTTOM
ok, for those vista/mac/linux users, there is another method of flashing., courtesy of pnyce777 in post #42 and on. this method is via the sd card. it is not required that you do step one if your card is already fat32. i will update this post as we gain more knowledge
1. Format your MicroSD card to FAT32 (YES - FAT 32 32 32!! not just plain old FAT) (again, this is not required if your card is already fat32; it is ok to have other data on the card). I have read that the card needs to be 2gb or smaller, though I'm not sure how much truth, if any, there is to that...
2. Extract the .NBH you desire to flash from the exe or zip or w/e put it on the microsd card rename it from RUU_signed.nbh to VOGUIMG.NBH
3.Put the MicroSD card in your phone and Get To the BOOTLOADER screen (camer+power+reset) it should then start updating with the .NBH on the SD card and the procedure should begin automatically.
you can also use this procedure to unlock your phone by flashing the .nbh from Cokemans unlocker just extract it and rename it VOGUIMG.NBH or if your stuck at that HTC screen and cant sync because your phone wont boot up.
i will try to provide support on this as i can, but as i have never used this method myself, pnyce777 is probably a far better resource if he is available and willing.
sorry this is now so long, wasnt supposed to be in the first place. but if you're not already used to a lot of reading, this is a good first step, because you will need to be doing a LOT of reading.

Jim, great how to. As a noob, I have a qstn about different carriers. I just got a VZ touch and want to know which roms are best to use with which carrier? Some roms seem carrier specific... others seem like they will work on anything. How do you tell whats wat? I have been waiting for someone to post a ROM specifically for VZW, but I haven't found it yet.
It might also be helpful to add a glossary. Like I have read how some folks have taken a sprint kitchen moved it to a new directory (?) and merged it to make a verizon kitchen. With that people have flashed their VZ phones but it doesn't seem like something a noob should try

ok. so as for different roms saying they are for different carriers, they are most likely just referring to having the different directories (/folders) for the carriers. so what that means is that a sprint rom would actually work just fine for you, but it may have things like sprint tv or on demand on the cube or other places. it will still function just fine and everything though. it would probably look a little different than the stock vzw rom (im not sure really how it looks) and such. the only way that you could get screwed having the wrong rom for your carrier is if you were flashing the radio as well. but since you're not (in most cases), it doesnt matter really. just be sure to check the roms threads about whether they include a radio or not.
as for the glossary thing, that is probably a great idea. thanks for the tip i will get working on that.
so what you will need to do is:
1) download a kitchen: set of tools for creating/editing roms. dcd just finished his vogue kitchen; available here on xda in this vogue upgrading subforum. there is also lattisimo's older vogue kitchen available on the ftp site over at ppc geeks ("qlinks" at top of page, ftp upload/download, vogue -> users -> lattisimo? (i think?)).
2) download a verizon titan/mogul/ppc 6800 kitchen from somewhere, look in the "sys" folder contained therein, and copy the "carrier vzw" or "verizon" or "carrier customizations - verizon" folder (it will be something like that) into the "sys" folder of the vogue kitchen you have downloaded.
3) delete whichever other carrier customization was already in that folder (such as alltell or sprint or bell etc..)
4) run "buldit.bat" or "buildnb.bat" (or something similar) and flash your new rom that will be located in the "ruu" folder after the batch file (xxx.bat) is finished!
feel free to ask any more questions if that wasnt too clear (sorry :S) .
good luck!

You can't just "make" a ROM for a different carrier. The phone itself won't work because it's registered for one comapny.
Great Thread!
Good to see there are some thorough instructions out there for noobs... Howabout an unlocker for Vista 64??? Any advice? Thanks.

upgrading the ROM - a noob guide

Hi all
please dont flame the n00b. I have recently acquired my first smartphone the diamond and am very pleased with it. I have read through the threads and have developed my understanding of the considerations to make in flashing the ROM on my phone
I have an early version of the ROM as I received one of the first stock into the UK, which turned out to be grey imports from hong kong :S . I would like to realise some of the speed / battery / bugfix benefits of the newest ROM
however many of these threads are quite long , so i was wondering if someone could do me a favour by succintcly summarising the steps i would need :
my phone is runnning :
1.34.831.1 WWE - the unit is from hong kong i beleive, i have registered on HTC HK e-club
I would like to upgrage this is the latest signed UK ROM ?
If this is not possible can advice be given on going to the latest HK WWE ?
I understand this will involve changing the HARD SPL ?
Additionally can any method provided be confirmed as a reversible process should i need to invoke the warranty ?
thanks in advance for your help.
please let me know if you need any further information form me in order to help.
thanks
1: install hardspl (unsigned)
2: search the threads for the newer HK stock roms, they've been posted by tudispin I think.
3: flash
4: should need arise, you can revert to stock spl, search the threads for spls by htchackers.
you should be able to flash back for warranty purposes.. safest thing is still to dump your current ROM (search the forums and wiki for how-to), but i think you'll be alright. You can check out my site for step-by-step instructions on how to upgrade your ROM
thanks so far
just for help so far
your guide looks great racerx_
so i should be able to do the following tonight
1: install hardspl (unsigned)
2: search the threads for the newer UK? stock roms,
3: flash
4: and should the need arise, you can revert to stock spl, search the threads for spls by htchackers.
once the hardspl is loaded am i correct in thinking any ROM can be loaded ?
oh but
dump my current ROM before proceeding .. just in case

yeah you should technically be able to load any ROM... if signed Hard-SPL, then only any signed ROM of course
hit a slight problem
So i am tryiong to HARD SPL. have gone through all the instructions but :
when installint the HARD SPL . the phone screen switches off the progress bar on PC sits at )% for about 20 sec it then accelerates to 100% very quickly within around 2 mins. It say that is is installed correctly
however the phone restarts and i can still see the d: as 1.34.00.00
so the loinex 1.3 has not installed
the windows is hard reset as i then have to go through the screen calibration
any help appreciated
HardSPL is not the ROM, just software to enable the update
once you installed HardSPL you should now be able to install a ROM
hi
yes sorry for the confusion in my past previous description. It is the HARD SPL software update which says that it is installed but isnt
i have not attempted to load another ROM until this is done first
any further advice ?
in essence when installing the olinex 1.30 i get no errors
bit it doesnt install and all i get is a hard reset ?
If it goes through OK, it has installed You don't see anything different in the splash screen- that just lists the basics
To confirm, go into Bootloader mode by holding down the Volume Down Key and at the same time pressing the red reset button at the mouth of the stylus silo. It can take a few goes, but will show a rainbow screen listing the SPL etc, which ought to say 1.30 Olinex, confirming the correct SPL flash.
Once confirmed press the reset button to restart.
ok thanks for step by step advice there
the HARD SPL is loaded version 1.30 I will try a new ROM now
i am trying the :
RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.37.707.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship
which is signed so should work
mmm even though the phone is synced up I get error
"262" when i try to install new ROM
it basically stalls on 0% for about 4 to 5 mins before it aborts with this error message.
i have searched the forums but cannot see a succinct plausible answer
hmm.. i thought that error was usually encountered with unsigned ROMs...
1) are you flashing with xp or vista
2) are you connected through a USB hub?
3) what EXACTLY are your steps for flashing this ROM
hi there
yeas flashing through vista 64 bit
and not using USB hub but direct connection
I downloaded the signed 1.37.401.3 Europe ROM linked from this forum and this installed fine
the improvement over the old ROM is immense. so far i am delighted by the results.
I am still perplexed as to why the asian ROM did not install still :S
only difference so far is that this EUROP ROM does not have the remote desktop app
thanks for all your help. I am going to test this ROM over the coming week, but unless there is a compelling reason to another ROM i will stick with this
Why HARDSPL when flashing HTC rom?
When using the newer 1.37 roms, you download the installer from e-club, make activesync conn en go for it?
A noob's point of view
I got my Diamond about two weeks ago, and since I'm new to PDAs and WM, I've done a lot of reading on the forums, wiki etc. At first things were quite murky for me and I know what my fellow noob here is feeling. So I thought I should share my experience (or lack there of) for the use of other noobs.
What I Know
HardSPL is needed in order to flash a cooked (non original HTC) ROM. As I understand, it is the equivalent of BIOS for PCs, mixed with a bootloader flavor. You need to first change this section of software first in order for the cooked roms to be accepted.
HardSPL comes in two flavours:
- the developer edition with which you can flash any type of roms (signed, unsigned, original) link: HardSPL dev ed
- the signed edition with which you can flash signed roms (original HTC, and cooked signed). The signed ROM versions give an added sense of reliability since they are tested. link: HardSPL signed the topic name was confusing for me at first
A list of signed ROMs: here
There are more than one "cooks" out there working in teams or otherwise. And more than one ROM you can flash. I did a lot of reading before I chose the one to use, I find user feedback the best measuring tool for quality .
Now for the flashing part
After you downloaded the HardSPL and the chosen ROM, you need to install ActiveSync. This is found on the CDs that come with the device, or downloadable fromo the M$ ****e aaaa site ActiveSync is a tool used for transferring contacts, e-mails and other outlook stuff if you use it, files, AND is needed for the flashing process. When installing, if you do not use outlook and do not like "syncronisation folders" on your desktop uncheck every "folder" option, you will be better off.
This site was very useful to me since it gave a detailed description flashing with visual documentation which (a bit uncomfortable to admit) was very helpful for me.
The HardSPL flash takes little time to complete and unless going into bootloader mode (vol down + soft reset) is completely transparent to the user.
The ROM flash takes longer 10 mins - they go by pretty slowly .
For safety reasons, I also downloaded an original HTC ROM just in case.
Because the flashing process once started SHOULD NOT be stopped there are a few things to consider:
- charge the battery
- firmly and directly (no hubs) plug the USB cable into computer and device.
- if you live in an area where power cuts are often consider doing the flashing on an UPS-enabled computer.
When the flashing finishes, the device will reboot and you will have to set-up again. If using TLRs ROM do not panic if you have to align the screen 6 times or so as I did. You will eventually get to the next step
What I don't know or am not sure of:
- when using signed HardSPL can I load an original HTC signed ROM? if so, is this enough in case of RMA issues?
- when reflashing with a newer/different ROM can I restore a back-up made with the previous ROM? I'm using sprite and I backed up everything, including what registry stuff it offered to. In this case, do i need to reapply the registry tweaks? dunno if sprite backs-up all the registry or just some of it.
Im must thank guys for this thread, i am minutes from going to the postal office to get my Diamond and this weekend has been full of information reading and program downloading, but the only thing i was a bit hung up on was this flashig buisness. Of course i know a lot about flashing ( Right about everything there is to flash ) but almost nothing about Phone Flashing
But i think i will try the version i get now first to see if i feel the need to update to anything else...
Hence my question is rather simple... How tha fack do i see what version i already have? >_< is it that (vol down + soft reset) thing? or am i way out of place?
thx.

No, that is for HardSPL info. To see the ROM version, go to settings - device info and you'll see both ROM and radio.

lol if you're a smart kid you wouldve flashed to a custom rom with m2D on it.
Jk. I've had that problem before where i couldnt add programs to the "launcher page" of manilla as well as having issues adding favorite people to the peoples tab.
I would try 1 of 2 things.
1) try a different version of manilla 2d for example if you used version 21 try version 20.
2) BUT i would highly reccommend using a custom rom with manilla 2d. Why? first off we have great chefs (people on this forum who make great roms). They optimize the rom (or basically the operating system for your phone to run more efficiently --> FASTER)
I would suggest NFSFAN who makes vogue roms. He also added other mods that are featured in the touch pro and touch diamond. Cant go into detail here but if you need help flashing to a custom rom you can pm me

1) You should upgrade your radio --> maybe 3.42.30
honestly the easiest way is to use this utility from htc. This upgrades your htc touch to the newer windows mobile 6.1 with GPS enabled and Rev A for faster data downloads. http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=76&act=sd&cat=all By doing this it will upgrade your radio. But note: this is not the only way to upgrade radio its the simplest way for newbies 2) You need to unlock your phone
This is the Unlockerhttp://rapidshare.com/files/113951076/Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exeIf you need instructions here is where i got it. Just read we all had to read to figure it out. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=203703) After doing that you can finally install a custom rom.
I suggest this one. Here is a very good and stable WM 6.1 Rom with Manilla 2D aka Touchflo 2D incorporated in this rom/os made by NFSFAN: http://74.53.45.2/%7Eevadmin/nfsfan/Public%20Releases/Sprint/NFSFAN%27s%201.12%20Sprint%20ROM.rarThere are 2 ways of flashing your phone...actually any windows mobile phone for that matter. 1) Flashing by your micro SD card or 2) flashing through your computer via USB cord
Flashing Through microSD card
I Personally Like this method because it works 100%. The usb method sometimes has errors with active sync connection. Basically you download the rom (provided above) and thers a file called RUU_signed.nbh For the Sd card method you have to copy that to the root of your microSD card and rename it to VOGUIMG.nbh. Please note that you shouldve unlocked your phone by now and you shouldve backed up everything from you fone/sd card to your pc because everything will be deleted. Now after the VOGUIMG.nbh is on the root of the SD card, you now press and hold the power button on your phone AND press and hold the camera button on your phone at the same time --> keep holding it and then insert your stylus into the reset button. KEEP holding it until you get a 3 color screen red blue green. ANd follow the onscreen instructions.
Flashing via USB cord
If you flash by this method, with the rom provided above, NFSFAN has provided u with a .rar of all the stuff you need to flash. Just unzip/unrar it. In there theres a file called ROMUpdateUtility.exe. open that. Make sure you plug in your phone and have an active sync connection. that program u just opened has onscreen instructions. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR PHONE FROM THE USB CORD AND HOPE YOU DONT HAVE A POWER OUTAGE WHILE DOING THIS BY USB CORD. This method is the easiest way to flash...but easy to me is subjective and it may not be easy for all.
Anyways after its done whether u flashed by sd card or usb cord...it takes a while to start up dont panic. YOu shuold see that screen where u have to align your screen... after that ur phone will perform a customization let that **** run do not cancel.
intimidatorx31 thanks for the amazing guide! If anything, it should be stickied at the top to help all newcomers here. Well done.

By CLARO, are you referring to CLARO SAC, as in CLARO is your cellular carrier/provider?
If CLARO is an app its not one Ive ever heard of for unlocking HTC Vogues and a google search comes up with it being a cellular provider NOT an unlocking software to flash custom ROMs to your phone and the only thing I find close to unlocking a phone and CLARO isnt even for the HTC Vogue but rather a V220.

Claro runs all the CDMAs in this country, and Viva is another competitor,
btw i mean claro by this http://claro.com.do/
and they unlocked my phone and even had their custom Rom which, apart from being slow had a hideous theme
and i've never unlocked a phone by myself
what is the purpous of unlocking?

Unlocking the phone is what allows users to flash a custom ROM onto them other than the locked, standard ROM from the Carrier we buy them from.
So your saying the carrier CLARO has unlocked the phone? can you verify this to be certain, if not check with them regarding flashing of a custom ROM and check out THIS for more information regarding unlocking and relocking your phone for custom ROMs
As far as you being a "foriegn" (at least to me as Im in the US and my experience and understanding of ROMs and Unlocking comes from use on US phones) you may want to double-check your phones state before going to far

Quick Advice Needed: I going from stock OEM WM6.0>Android

I have flashed phones before, (my TP2 runs android)
Sorry for the extra post, but I know someone has tried this.
I've read the stickies, there is ALOT of outdated info, dead links, etc..
***Whats the easiest upgrade route to get a stock WM6.0 Kaiser on Android?***
WM6.0>OEM HTC WM6.1 ROM>Android
OR
WM6.0>Custom WM6.5 ROM>Android
Which is the easiest/quickest way to get Android?
NAND or run Haret off the SD card?
I don't need a walkthrough just anyone's quick advice. Espicially, any trip-ups I might encounter regarding the radios and SPL versions.
Thanks
Sucessfully bricked the phone trying using Atools!
congratulations for not thoroughly reading the sticky topic about HOW TO COMPLETELY REPLACE WINDOWS MOBILE WITH ANDROID.
It Requires Radio version 1.65 or higher (which is only compatible with WM6.1 or 6.5)
It Requires HARD SPL Version 3.29 or higher (which is compatible with WM6.1 or 6.5) for the case you wanna flash on NAND
So either way, you gotta upgrade to WM6.1, HardSPL, Radio, then Go to ANDROID. Impatience often hurts. Android is blazing fast when installed on NAND (sys + Data)
So tell me,
Your phone is bricked in what sense? flashing using Atools is risky. I suggest go with RUU utility or SD Card. And I suggest you must consider a lil bit of reading first
Atools isn't a flash tool...
Thanks for the help, and I can sense your frustration. I make my living doing IT work. And, I'm not technically a newbie to the flash game. I've owned the PPC6700, Mogul, Touch Pro, and TP2. I've flashed them all. I've even contributed a sticky or two.
I admit I was rushed. And like a small child with a gun, I took a shot without fully understanding Atools.
Yes, I can only blame myself for my Kaiser's demise. To answer your question, the Kaiser is toast. It can't get bootloader and only has a blackscreen and one green light. Atools wins this round. But I'm not too concerened, I'm in a position where I have a nice stock of Kaiser's to fry before I need to peruse The DEFINITIVE MTTY thread.
Dark_prince, please don't blame my impatience entirely for the phone's death. Don't you think some of the blame definitely falls on me not being a bit smarter than 'ye old sticky thread (How to replace Windows Mobile with Android). Following that sticky verbatim will lead a WM6.0 user to HARDSPL first, and then update WM6.1. Ignoring that, the sticky also instructs users to use Atools, which requires it's own sticky.
In the passing year and a half since that sticky was updated, haven't newer versions of Android appeared with newer methods of installation that aren't covered in the sticky? Specifically, it's not clear to me where to find a newer Android installation tutorial that doesn't include Atools.
I'm comfortable that I could complete an Android-Haret setup running off the SD card, but I don't think performance would be acceptable. I want what you and others have

and I'm not above begging for your help to get it.
Now that I've burned one attempt, I need someone's input about how to proceed. Any help is appreciated....
In my usage case, I'm starting with an AT&T 8925 (Tilt) (KAISER100) w/ WM6.0 Professional. Here's where I stand on attempt #2
1. Cleared the storage on the phone.
2. In order to get the correct usb drivers on my Windows 7 PC, I downloaded and installed WMDC 6.1 UPDATE: WMDC 6.1 Does not install ALL the correct drivers, you'll need to force some by reading this thread.
3. A few toggles of "Advanced Network Functionality" later, the phone was Syncing nicely.
4. I then downloaded and flashed the Official HTC AT&T Tilt WM6.1 Upgrade ROM Success.
I now have stock WM6.1 and radio version 1.65.21.18
Next up, I'm trying to decide which HardSPL to use, and which radio will provide me with the best options from the Android Chefs. I don't anticipate any trouble flashing these. But, which combination of HardSPL and radio offer the best base package for an upgrade to Android? I'd love your advice.
Speaking that, after I upgrade the SPL and radio, how the hell do I get Android on my phone if I'm not suppossed to use Atools? Don't I need Atools in order to create a custom .nbh and Android install package for my Kaiser? If not, where can I find these files, especially if I don't know my panel type?
UPDATE: A Little bit closer.
I successfully updated the SPL / Radio(1.70.Olinex) / SIM Unlocked using KaiserUnlocker.exe
Updated the bootloader to 3.56 Hard SPL nostuckinSPL / Force USB via SD card
Updated the radio from 170.0linex to 1.70.19.09 via SD CARD
For any Windows 7 x64 users attempting to Flash their Kaiser, be sure to have a look at [TUT] Dummies guide: updating HTC USB Sync Drivers.
I should have made a bigger mental note when after I installed WMDC 6.1, Windows FAILED to install the correct driver the first time I connected my phone to the PC in bootloader mode. The above thread explains the process of booting Windows 7 in a special mode, in order to force customized drivers to be installed on your machine, the hard way. I followed the steps until about step 12 (my device manager never yellow flagged anything). According to the thread, it looked like it failed, so I resorted to the next best thing. Keep the phone in bootloader and unplug and replug to different usb ports praying that my "forced-on" drivers would finally recognize the damn thing. Success, it finally did and Windows started loading the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM Windows driver. Launching KaiserUnlocker.exe took it from there, albiet with one confusing caveat... IN the first part of step 1, KaiserUnlocker will tell you that you need to unplug and replug your usb during the second-half of step one. Okay, no problem. It fails to tell you that you're going to do this "uplug and replug" at the same time you'll be staring at text in red saying DO NOT UNPLUG OR LAUNCH ANY PROGRAMS!
However, unplugging and replugging is necessary in order to trigger Windows to use the bootloader drivers to communicate.

[Q] New radio, and how can I tell what type of unlock I have?

Hi
I've got a Bell Desire Z. I bought it brand new and "unlocked" from a guy on Craigslist, who told me it came direct from HTC as a sample for a photoshoot and was already unlocked. Sure enough, it worked with my non-Bell SIM card just fine. I now use MIUI, love it.
I've been having a few funny issues with the radio (12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M) such as sometimes I make a call and the other person can't hear me, or I answer a call, same problem, or the call comes through all garbled. I want to see if upgrading the radio will fix this.
1. How do I know what type of unlock my phone has? I didn't put the engineering HBOOT on there, but if it is already on there, how can I tell? I've got it rooted, can I tell if the radio is already S-OFF? I've read tons of stuff and I can't figure this one out.
2. How do I flash the PC10MSgwhatever.zip file onto the phone?
3. Will flashing this break my unlock?
Thanks for taking the time to help me. You guys are the best
Answers
Hi,
to answer your questions:
1. one way of getting some information out of your phone is to use the AMT-Tool to query the device info and the security status. You can find the tool in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097977&page=1
The latest version 1.8.5 is somewhat wacky though and sometimes claims, that it can not query or manipulate your phone, although you are already rooted and have the right software version installed. So do not rely on this tool for further flashing your phone. But the queries usually work fine and produce results.
If you run into trouble with the 1.8.5 you might want to download and try the older 1.8.1 which seems to be more stable and can be found here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26590769/AMT181.zip
You don't have to install the files, just unzipping them to a new directory is sufficient, so you can unpack and use both versions parallel without any troubles.
Another way to find out the version of your HBOOT is by shutting off your phone and then holding the ON-Button and the TrackPad-Button (that square thing at the bottom of your display) at the same time until the phone boots into the bootloader screen. There is the version of your HBOOT displayed.
2. I am not sure, what exactly you want to flash, but if it is something like a PC10IMG.zip, usually all you have to do is put it into the root-area of your SD-Card (so do NOT put it into any subfolder) and then again boot into the bootloader by the method above. Then select the first option called "Bootloader" (which usually is already pre-selected) and press the ON-Button once to confirm the choice. The phone automatically searches for any PC10IMG-Files on your SD-Card and then asks you, if you want to flash that Image.
Don't forget to delete the file from your SD-Card afterwards, otherwise your phone will try to flash the Image again the next time you boot into the Bootloader!
3. Depends. As far as I have learned, flashing only the Radio should not tamper with your root or unlock. But I am quite new to the Android-World myself and would not want to guarantee the correctness of that statement. All I can tell is, that the 2nd phone I have rooted was the Vodafone Branded and SIM-locked phone of my wife. After de-branding, rooting and unlocking it, I flashed it with the Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 ROM and in a 2nd step also flashed the latest Radio onto it. Both did NOT break the UNLOCK. But since I don't know by which method your phone was rooted and unlocked, all I can do is speculate.
But even if you should break your UNLOCK somehow, it shouldn't be too hard to re-ROOT and re-UNLOCK it by following any of the many HOW-TOs published in this forum.
You can find the Link to all the HTC Desire Z Radios in my signature. There are a lot versions available that are newer than yours. As far as I have read in other threads, you can safely flash and try out several radios on your phone, but again no guarantees on that statement.
But keep in mind, that you might also need to align the Radio Library with the Radio depending on your ROM. This thread will tell you more about that process.
Hope that helped...
