hey,
just wanted to ask around which wm 6.5 rom including manila 2.5 is the most stable one for you?
so far i've been testing all roms around, except the newest version of miri's (1.2) and i have to say for me the most stable one is NRG - Genesis, although Manila sometimes does freezes for some seconds after unlocking the device (with wm 6.5 screenlock).
let me know your thoughts!
tats very true dude...not only it freezes on wm lock but also with the latest version of s2u2. But thats affordable with such high eye candy looks n good performance.
Manilla 2.5 is still in early stages of development. So you going to see lockups until we can make it run good. For now, if you want a stable ROM, better stick with Manilla 2.1.
Am I the only one that doesn't like 2.5? The homescreen looks cluttered and tacky!
If the launch icons had been about half the size with a weather 'bar' above them it might have been better. Think I will stick to the old one!
The quickest and most stable build i've tried is Miri's v1.2. I was getting the screenlock problem on the other roms but so far this build has been trouble free. I would like to use the footprints tab, but I can wait!

I get the freeze problem on Miri 1.2 too. What application do you use to autolock your phone?

No, I totally agree. I like having the weather on the home screen, but the programme icons look horrible at the size they are. They need to be much smaller, and maybe just a small row of 4 icons at the bottom of the main homescreen that you can flick up to 16 icons in total instead of 9!
After having used my Hero for 1 week now, I grew tired of the sense UI.
I do not need the HTC widgets, or the keyboard/ custom contact lists or 7 homescreens.
That is why I want to run the original vanilla 1.6/donut on my HTC Hero.
I don't want any custom roms, because I trust that Google is able to make the OS fast as it is. Plus I hate custom hacks and things I don't know about which somebody put in.
So can anyone give instructions on how to do this?
(Plus will the camera, buttons, lights still work?)

You could however just start using the standard Android interface instead of Sense and that way skip all the HTC apps.

Thanks! I could not find that topic through the search (came up with people who want updated 1.6 on Sense UI however).
I Understood that I can use the standard interface, which I am doing at the moment. This only works for the homescreen though. The colors, and contact lists are still hero (spammed with flckr twitter, facebook, etc) Also the keyboards are still hero this way.
I have a feeling it is still in the memory, because my friends G1 (1.5) seems to run faster, even though the specs are the same (save for 7200/7201 cpu)
Bear in mind that it's quite unlikely that you'll be able to get everything up and running on Donut, as it really requires the kernel source for Hero to be released. I'm not saying that it's impossible, as a lot of good work has already been completed, but without the kernel source it is a good order of magnitude harder!
Regards,
Dave
Sorry, I cannot seem to change the title.
I would also be happy with Vanilla 1.5 on my Hero, as I don't need the features. It is to my understanding that the HTC Magic is running 1.5 android, without the Sense UI. I am currently searching if somebody successfully ported 1.5 vanilla to the hero.
(with successfully I mean with everything working).
I would even be content if I can use my hero firmware, while restoring the original google apps, contact list, keyboard, homescreen, lockscreen etc.
so a htc 1.5 rom with turned-off sense is not good enough for you? might become difficult then, for two obvious reasons:
1. there is no official rom for hero without sense ui (why would they, they spend a lot of time and effort to create this great ui)
2. there is no inofficial rom for hero without sense ui (why would they, their goal is to pack MORE features in the custom builds...)
I have to agree with the thread starter, I'd love the Magic ROM looks, white taskbar and all on my Hero hardware... I'd finally have a working IMAP client as well (using K-9 now since HTC doesn't know how to make a usable app...).

I understand, and respect, that a lot of users would prefer the Sense UI on their hardware.
But I want to have the OS as clean as possible.
example:
http://the-gadgeteer.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/android-g1-6-0.jpg
http://www.openintents.org/en/sites/default/files/mediaplaybackactivity1.png
I prefer that to the hero sense UI music player interface.
So maybe somebody with modding experience could help ?
We can use the Hero Sense UI rom, and 'mod' the default android features back. Would that be an option?
It works for the homescreen already, maybe it works also for the other features.

best option, wait for HTC to wake up and provide us with the kernel source, then build a fresh android with that....
complain to HTC that they are LATE with providing the sources......

Thanks for this information. I would like that option, to contact them and complain.
It would only be useful however, if it worked in the past: ie complaining and then getting something done by htc
Check if this might be what you want to accomplish:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...if-you-wanted-to-get-rid-of-rosie-completely/
I'd really, really, really recommend a backup of everything first though. Or simply solve it by renaming the files from something.apk to something.apk.old or similar. That way the apps won't launch and you should be pretty close to vanilla android

If the calendar, dialer, contact list, music player, and browser turn back into 'regular android', i would be a very happy Hero owner

That is good news!
Did you also use this method: "root", then input all the commands as suggested by MoDaCo?
Wasn't there something like 'Rosie remover' for the hero? A program / process that patched / modified your running Hero to remove all / most of the HTC stuff from the current ROM.

Yes,

But it did not remove the htc apps fully

Vanilla 1.5 minus the HTC bloat. I installed it this weekend and it works very well. I cant post a link as a new poster. Sorry!
I've just upgraded my TP2 to Windows Mobile 6.5,. I downloaded the official ROM from the HTC site.
This ROM has HTC Sense and I was just wanting to know how you get the quick links on the home screen. All the images and videos I've seen running 6.5 seem to have them but I can't find any options to do so.
Thanks
Sense 2.5
Hi skratchwiz
I think you've seen screenshots of Sense 2.5, which has the shortcuts on the today screen as well as clock and weather. Sense 2.5 is from the HTC Leo, and other newer HTC devices so you won't see it in a stock HTC ROM upgrade. You will need a cooked ROM to get Sense 2.5. One thing to note is that it doesn't natively support landscape like Sense 2.1.
Cheers

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the quick reply. I really like the look of the custom ROMs. Just reading up on how to flash my TP2.
Skratchwiz
Hi All,
Sorry for creating a new thread but I've been constantly tweaking and upgrading my touch diamond and tbh I'm not happy. I have tried countless roms and I have yet to find a fluid one which does not frustrate me. Sense 2.5 is unusable, I don't understand how anyone can use it; you guys must have a lot of patient. I have gone for Gen Y 6.1 with Sense 2.1. I have heard that WM6.1 runs slightly faster and I use the recommended radio. Yes this rom is faster than most others I have tried but it's still not fast enough. It's a clean flash with mtty and I have changed the file system cache yada yada yada but it's still pretty laggy. I'm posting to ask peoples opinions on the fastest roms and I don't mean ones that are simply "usable". I am still unsure with the speed difference between TF3D compared to sense and I have yet to try Titanium, maybe titanium is the way froward? What are the fastest combinations (eg win6.1 with what etc..).
Any advice would be great,
Thanks in advance.
in my opinion these are the fast and stable combo you could try
WM 6.1 + sense 2.5 => GenY roms are great, programs mems are usually about 65% used but it's kinda not "smooth" enough when sliding the tabs :|
WM 6.5 + sense 2.1 => DonSalari roms , really fast but heavily tweak and some kind of stuffs i must install the invidual packages while other roms have them natively
WM 6.1 + sense 2.1 => best performance for daily use ! compared with TF3D 2.1 , sense 2.1 is more eyed-candy and get the better ram usage the TF3D 2.1 is always about 80% when you have used the music tab, picture tab. While in sense 2.1 it's about 65% used
so enough ? i'm on the way finding a best combo 6.5 + sense 2.1 with stock stuffs and best perfomance. and you may like a 6.1+ sense 2.1 combo ftw ) sorry for my english isn't good enough
i think the PP you can set to 10mb for best perfomance , 8mb by default is really turning me on when using sense 2.5
I've switched to 6.5 and titanium because I couldn't find a rom which had decent perfromance without bugs. It's a BSB rom and so far not had any issues with it. Sense 2.5 has about a second added every time you switch tabs. It looks pretty but it's just too slow.
Just switched to BSB Titanium 6.5 and it seems so much faster. I've only had a quick play but it seems very responsive. I just need to get used to the titanium UI, haven't got a clue where anything is, lol. Is there any way to get the task manager in the top menu like the other versions because I keep losing my apps =s

You should find a shortcut to a program called CHome editor. You can use this to make new panels. It's not the most inuitive app but it's what we have. You can use it to create a panel with a shortcut to the built-in task manager. I'm not aware of how you'd use the old top corner style task manager but if you get this to work, you might like it even more.
Just wondering if there was a way to add custom tabs to the home screen to launch programs or contacts like with Sense 2.5 Right now I am running basic T-Mobile WM 6.5 with sense 2.1
i have a better one....is it possible to move the home tab....let's say to put it in the middle

No...That's the point (special feature) of Sense 2.5. You're going to have to flash a custom ROM with Sense 2.5 to have those quicklinks.
HTC would have to "add" those quicklinks feature to Sense 2.1, but that would make it Sense 2.5!

Yeah, I guess the custom ROMs can provide too much icing sometimes!
