Fast Rom - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi All,
Sorry for creating a new thread but I've been constantly tweaking and upgrading my touch diamond and tbh I'm not happy. I have tried countless roms and I have yet to find a fluid one which does not frustrate me. Sense 2.5 is unusable, I don't understand how anyone can use it; you guys must have a lot of patient. I have gone for Gen Y 6.1 with Sense 2.1. I have heard that WM6.1 runs slightly faster and I use the recommended radio. Yes this rom is faster than most others I have tried but it's still not fast enough. It's a clean flash with mtty and I have changed the file system cache yada yada yada but it's still pretty laggy. I'm posting to ask peoples opinions on the fastest roms and I don't mean ones that are simply "usable". I am still unsure with the speed difference between TF3D compared to sense and I have yet to try Titanium, maybe titanium is the way froward? What are the fastest combinations (eg win6.1 with what etc..).
Any advice would be great,
Thanks in advance.

in my opinion these are the fast and stable combo you could try
WM 6.1 + sense 2.5 => GenY roms are great, programs mems are usually about 65% used but it's kinda not "smooth" enough when sliding the tabs :|
WM 6.5 + sense 2.1 => DonSalari roms , really fast but heavily tweak and some kind of stuffs i must install the invidual packages while other roms have them natively
WM 6.1 + sense 2.1 => best performance for daily use ! compared with TF3D 2.1 , sense 2.1 is more eyed-candy and get the better ram usage the TF3D 2.1 is always about 80% when you have used the music tab, picture tab. While in sense 2.1 it's about 65% used
so enough ? i'm on the way finding a best combo 6.5 + sense 2.1 with stock stuffs and best perfomance. and you may like a 6.1+ sense 2.1 combo ftw ) sorry for my english isn't good enough
i think the PP you can set to 10mb for best perfomance , 8mb by default is really turning me on when using sense 2.5

I've switched to 6.5 and titanium because I couldn't find a rom which had decent perfromance without bugs. It's a BSB rom and so far not had any issues with it. Sense 2.5 has about a second added every time you switch tabs. It looks pretty but it's just too slow.

Just switched to BSB Titanium 6.5 and it seems so much faster. I've only had a quick play but it seems very responsive. I just need to get used to the titanium UI, haven't got a clue where anything is, lol. Is there any way to get the task manager in the top menu like the other versions because I keep losing my apps =s

You should find a shortcut to a program called CHome editor. You can use this to make new panels. It's not the most inuitive app but it's what we have. You can use it to create a panel with a shortcut to the built-in task manager. I'm not aware of how you'd use the old top corner style task manager but if you get this to work, you might like it even more.

most stable wm 6.5 + manila 2.5 rom?

hey,
just wanted to ask around which wm 6.5 rom including manila 2.5 is the most stable one for you?
so far i've been testing all roms around, except the newest version of miri's (1.2) and i have to say for me the most stable one is NRG - Genesis, although Manila sometimes does freezes for some seconds after unlocking the device (with wm 6.5 screenlock).
let me know your thoughts!
tats very true dude...not only it freezes on wm lock but also with the latest version of s2u2. But thats affordable with such high eye candy looks n good performance.
Manilla 2.5 is still in early stages of development. So you going to see lockups until we can make it run good. For now, if you want a stable ROM, better stick with Manilla 2.1.
Am I the only one that doesn't like 2.5? The homescreen looks cluttered and tacky!
If the launch icons had been about half the size with a weather 'bar' above them it might have been better. Think I will stick to the old one!
The quickest and most stable build i've tried is Miri's v1.2. I was getting the screenlock problem on the other roms but so far this build has been trouble free. I would like to use the footprints tab, but I can wait!

I get the freeze problem on Miri 1.2 too. What application do you use to autolock your phone?

No, I totally agree. I like having the weather on the home screen, but the programme icons look horrible at the size they are. They need to be much smaller, and maybe just a small row of 4 icons at the bottom of the main homescreen that you can flick up to 16 icons in total instead of 9!

Sense 2.5?

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but I cannot find a ROM that has Sense 2.5 running nearly as smooth as 2.1, which is a real shame because I like the look and feel of 2.5 a lot. I've tried a large number of ROMs. I've done hard resets afterwards, and flashed back to the stock ROM beforehand, and after a few hours 2.5 will run slow coming from the home page, but scrolling and what not from there will be fine afterwards.
What has other people's experiences been with 2.5? I'd really like to get it to run as well as 2.1 does, but I understand it was made for a device that had a 1GHZ processor in it, too.
Thanks
I think a lot of us are in the same boat as you. Sense 2.5 is simply just not made for our devices.
theres alot of dependencies. and it doesnt agree with the keyboard. and it was made for the 1ghz proc. i wouldnt say its bad though. it seems most people wont opt into for the cfc compressed version though. cfc did wonders for 1.3 and 2.1.
Opt into? Are there ROMs that have a CRC compressed version, or is it just no one's done it?
Sorry, I don't know much about developing stuff like that.
I´m sure that great Chefs here will eventually have a smooth stable version
The fastest iteration of a 2.5 ROM I've played around with is Cell Pro Lite V1. It runs 2.5 and most everything really fast, but I can't get Swype to work on that ROM, and I love that input method. Always a compromise.

Suggestions for ROM flash?

Currently I'm trying out the SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 UI and enjoying it as it appears to be faster than TF3D. Are there any ROM's out there that are as customizable as SPBMS 3.5 and as clean looking? I'm currently using the stock rom/radio and really have no idea what else I can do to the phone other than download more apps from the marketplace.
In terms of customization there isn't a whole lot you can do w/ the stock Sense 2.1/2.5 interface. Icon customization, taskbar customization, background/page customization.
I think this is probably the most popular theme for sense UI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585072
That theme looks pretty nice. I'm a bit confused on the implementation of it though as it looks like you need to install a cab file for each screen?
I've honestly never installed it, so I couldn't say for sure...I think its just the first cab for the whole theme and then all the attached cabs are for specific screens.

main cab.
Also check out the Theme forums to see what else is cooking:

Completely forgot, but as far as flashing a more stable ROM, here are some general guidlines. Sense 2.1 will almost always be faster than sense 2.5. Some popular roms include NRG Pheonix, NRG Leo, Valkyrie:

The fastest ROM?

High time I changed the ROM on my Diamond. However there are really MANY of them and every cooker claims it's "faster, better, more badass". However, there is no objective speed test on all the ROMs. And here is my question: which ROM is the fastes though not ascetic (I mean, has at least the good, old TouchFlo 3D)? Please reply only if you've tried quite a few of them, not just one.
Start Testing.

try the one in my sig , it's quite old but it's the fastest (seriously it's the one of out of the hundreds of roms I flashed, in my opinion). That's because of it's build and a wm6.1 kernel. It's not a clean rom and it has Touchflo3d v1.
try it and let me know!

Let me know about it!
Hi,
I've tried a lot of roms and I cooked also for my old phone.
The balance is quite often the same eye candy features or speed
It meas that on the same phone the speed is conditioned by the gui you want to use...
Generally using the same windows version this the list af the fastest gui:
titanium
tf3d
sense 2.1
sense 2.5
in my opinion stat to choose you gui than your windows version...
6.1 6.5 or 6.5.x
generally a rom with 6.1 and sense 2.5 should be acceptable.
But a rom with 6.5 with titanium should be faster than the previous one.
but this depend also on the ability of the chef to cook the rom
To conclude I suggest the diamond lover rom with titanium is discontinued but the balance between features and seed is very good and the rom is very stable
if you like sense 2.5 donsalari rom is very fast but there are very few features and it's not completed
personally I don't like a lot 6.1 roms I prefer 6.5 for the touch friendly capabilities
I hope in other suggestions t learn different point ok view

Sense UI or DeFrost ?

Hi, i searched all over... some1 said to me that DeFrost would never likely be on the same ROM as Sense UI as they cancel each other out, I`ve found threads on here sowing the changelogs/bugfixes etc of DeFrost but what are all the PROs / CONs to Defrost ?
whats it got that renders sense UI uselss
thanks
The fact that there is no sense ui in Defrost. But just take a look at the defrost thread, all you need to know about, what it is and what it contains can be found there.
i moved from leedroids to defrost and have to say im impressed, support is amazing, its lighting fast and battery is also great, sense only takes up space and slows down the system.
I currently use defrost and it is fast. Alot faster and smoother then leedroid, however i think im going to go back to a sense rom.
This is for a number of reasons but mainly because of all the widgets and apps and extensions of sense. Once you try to get some of the functionality back that sense offers the rom starts to become as bloated anyway.
It you want sense use a sense rom, if not use a AOSP rom. TBH it is best to try them both out and see which you prefer.
I find that defrost is much faster, assuming you're using launcher pro, its more responsive to the touch... in my case anyway. the only downside to defrost i think is the camera skin... its ugly as hell. I love the camera interface on sense, although the video recording (720p) is much better on defrost.
anddd you can flash so many different kernels to your different needs on defrost, personally i like HAVS 1113 mhz BFS 875mA the best.. but thats only cause my desire can handle the low voltage
DeFrost is better in battery live and speed (of course it is a non-Sense ROM).
Sense ROMs (like LeeDroid) is according to my taste more beautiful and it is somehow like a birthmark of the Desire. The new Sense (HD or Z porting) is even more awesome than the ordinary Sense.
But of course, Sense will drain your battery and resources more than without Sense.
That is why I find it hard to decide which ROM I should use.
I am now on Z ROM...but dunno how long this will last...
