Hi there,
I was trying to establish a wifi connection to my home network and my HTC S620. I completed the set up and the phone is connected to my network, but when I go to the internet, the error message comes on "your internet connection is not configured properly, ..."
I searched the forums, but couldn't get a relevent thread. Any help is appreciated a lot.
Thanx.
this happenes to me 2. Anyone?...
Im running the 3volution 3.0 rom.
my wifi is not connecting
it found the wireless network but not connect...help me...i am new here
The problem with the devices of the First two posters is, they should tick mark Automatically detect Settings and Set Internet Explorer connections settings to "The Internet".
Also configure your wireless network connection as Connects to: The Internet
And RiPpeRru: Your wireless network as weak signals. For some reason when scanning for network, your device draws a bit more power in scanning to power up the signal reception of excalibur. While it cant connect because of not sufficient signals for normal operation of Wifi
Thank you dark_prince
I`ll keep in mind

Hi guys, I recently destroyed my XDA2 and got a 2s on the insurance
Bluetooth on WM2003 SE if fair poor, but I managed to upgrade the stack thinger to 3900..... so I'm not completely XDA illiterate.
However, the wifi baffles me! I have access to an unsecured wireless network with internet access, and my 2s will connect to it. When I go on the the internet on my XDA, even with wifi connected it still tries to connect GPRS to use the internet. If I keep clicking cancel, it will load the page (presumably through the wireless network's internet access).
It has become clear that I have no idea what I'm doing with regards to networking. Could someone post a quick guide as to how to set up the wifi (from scratch) so that when it finds an unsecured network it will automatically use it for the internet.
Sorry if there's already a thread on this but I really can't find it. Cheers guys
-Mike
just what i need as well, i have just bought a wifi router so i can use the internet on my xda2s.
using the wireless manger -> wireless LAN manager i get:
STATUS: connected to network
SSID: NETGEAR
TX RATE: AUTO
MODE:INFRASTRUCTURE
CHANNEL 11
BSSID: 00-09-5B-D7-DC-2A
MAC: 00-09-2D-0B-C0-A6
but even when i pull the Ethnet cable (forgot how its spelt) out of the back of the router it still stays connected. so im thinking its more my PC than the xda. the thing is the router came with no software so i have no idea if its connected properly. when i pull this Ethnet cable out of the wifi router o get network cable unplugged. The network card is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Which I have never used.
if anyone has a any ideas it would stop me pulling my hair out.
Sorry to hijack this thread

Mike, I dont think the wifi first and GPRS next works. It doesnt work properly on mine either. If I try a internet access via gprs and a local wifi is readily available, the system does not automatically switch to local wifi.....I think this could be a microsoft issue than a xda issue.

when u pull out the ethernet cable from the back of the router, can you still surf the net from you xda or PC?? that seems odd. So either you are not connecting to "your" own router, or someone else has a same router with unsecured setup and you were locked onto their service....if you follow what I mean. what happens if you kill the power to your router? you should definitely notice that the wifi service disappear in your xda and PC.
Dont expect a router to disappear by simply unplugging the ethernet cable, if the router is powered up, it will show up on your xda and the PC although obviously there will be no internet access.....
sorry if i wasn't clear. i meant i was still receiving a signal from the wifi router. i could never use the internet on the pda
update:
i can browse my pc files wirelessly using resco explorer, using the standard file explorer i can view the pc files using \\network/c and i have finally been able to connect to activesync.
however i still can not connect to the internet.
Any ideas, from looking on this forum it seems lots of peeps are having problems with this but nobody seems to have the answer
XDA Wi-Fi Solution....It Works!!!!
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and new to XDA2i (presumably XDA2s is same!) ....
I too had many frustrations connecting the wi-fi...but now I've cracked it, here's how.......
On first very first use (or following a hard re-set) device users are prompted to choose “What do you want WLAN to connect to?” The option bullets are ‘Internet’ or ‘Work’….’Work’ should be selected, this will connect them to the nearest WLAN (if this network is WEP encrypted it should be switched to ‘Open’ rather than ‘shared’ as is often the case).
Next prompt asks for any WEP Encryption ‘Pass Key’ to be input, when doing so omit any ‘-‘ between character pairs. Normal start-up should then be completed. Once device is up and running…..
From ‘Start’ pull-down on the ‘Today Screen’ select…. ‘settings’>’connections tab’>’connections icon’>’advanced tab’>’Select Networks’> pull-down ‘My Work Network’ > ‘OK’ out of selections to save and exit.
Go to ‘Wireless Manager’ in programs, select WLAN icon from main screen (which should turn green to show active), then select mini ‘WLAN’ icon from lower toolbar to see the status of the connection, quality of signal etc.
That did it for me......
Cheers

I have noticed a few people posting about Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) problems with the fantastic new 6.1 ROMS. This is what I discovered:
I was mystified that Internet Sharing was showing as "Connected" on the smartphone but my PC would not get an IP address (some other people report this as getting 0.0.0.0 but that just means that it's not getting an address). Then I realized that my laptop already had an active Internet connection (through WiFi) when I was trying this. So, I disabled my WiFi connection, shut the phone off and then turned it on, and Internet Sharing worked!
I think this is why: I don't remember if this was true in the 6.0 ROMs, but in 6.1, when the phone is connected with the USB cable (and ActiveSync 4.5 is installed) the phone will automatically grab and use the PC's Internet connection. So in this mode if you do any browsing on the phone you are actually using the PC's Internet connection and not the GPRS. So when you try Internet Sharing it creates a "double sharing" problem that keeps you from getting an address on the GPRS network. I think this is a cool feature!
If there is no PC Internet connection then turning on Internet Sharing on the phone works. Now I'm wondering what would happen if I am WiFi connected on the phone. Will Internet Sharing in 6.1 give out the WiFi connection instead of the GPRS connection? Probably not - but it sure would be cool!
Anyway - this is my first post, and here is the signature that I plan to use here:

Kavana and Ricky are AWESOME!!! I love the 6.1 ROMs on my S620 (formerly TMobile Dash) and I can't thank you two enough for providing them.
Sharing phone's WiFi - not quite
So I tried sharing the phone's WiFi connection to the PC.
I know - why bother? Because it's cool!!! (Actually the phone gets really hot when WiFi is turned on.)
Unfortunately, it seems that Internet Sharing (on the phone) will only try to share the GPRS connection. It doesn't list WiFi in the Connect to... box. But it tries! In fact it gave my PC an address on the WiFi network, but it established the actual connection to the GPRS network. I tried turning the phone functions off but this just causes Internet Sharing to fail completely.
Oh, and a note: Internet Sharing will NOT work properly if you have the phone's WiFi turned on. This is because Internet Sharing will connect to the GPRS network but will give you an address on the WiFi network, which means that none of your traffic will route correctly. At least I think that is what's going on.

internet sharing implies pc/ppc sharing only right?
phil_white99,
That is very similar to what I am experiencing. I tried this past evening to disable the onboard network connections of my home pc before I attached my Dash. I then attempted internet sharing, and still only got 0.0.0.0s for an IP.
Have you been successful on sharing your Internet connection on multiple computers?
Don
BlueTooth was the problem.
I finally figured out that I could work around the problem by disabling bluetooth in the comm manager when I need to use Internet connection sharing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-385825.html was what clued me in to the answer.
Hello
I have been using wifi internet on my phone for some time. And it has been running fine.
I had a Sattelite connection instead of a landline Dsl. But recently I switched to Dsl and the phone doesn't connect to the internet anymore. It does connect only for a few minutes sometimes in a day whenever it wishes to otherwise there is no connection. The wifi icon at the notification bar shows complete signals, the wifi finder easily finds the network but there is no connectivity. When I go to my university I can connect easily. So probably the problem is with the landline connection. Is there anyway to manually connect to this connection?
If it finds the network, but can't connect, you're not likely to have any luck by setting it up manually. But if you want to try; open "Settings", click "Wireless & Networks", click "Wi-Fi settings", turn on Wi-Fi, click "Add Wi-Fi network", enter the network's name where it says "Network SSID", choose the security type, enter the password. If you don't know what to fill in, ask someone around you who would.
In this video, you can see my problems.
There are a lot of networks i cannot connect to ("Dev Room" is one of these).
Sometimes I obtain "impossible to connect to the network", but it connects anyway.
Using an app like "WiFi Fixer" I can connect and disconnect from every network.
Any idea?
Hi i used to create my own hotspots when i still had ADSL from my windows 7 machine. All my phones tablets other PC's would connect to it with no problem whatsoever.
I have found other uses for wifi networks that do not require an internet connection. Now seeing as i do not have an internet connection on my computer and some of these that i use only work if the network is not started by the phone, the hotspot has no internet connection.
This is where I think Android says screw the wifi without an internet connection lets use cellular to do things. The error it throws up is "Avoided Poor Internet Connection".
Is there a way to fix this without connecting the hotspot to an internet connection & without rooting or modding my M8?

Settings > Wifi > advanced
turn off auto-switch to mobile network
This should help
Another one in developer settings (however not ticked by default)
Settings > developer options
turn off aggressive wi-fi to cellular handover
These should help you if not already enabled. If they aren't then I'm afraid I don't know
