[Q] manual setting for internet - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have been using wifi internet on my phone for some time. And it has been running fine.
I had a Sattelite connection instead of a landline Dsl. But recently I switched to Dsl and the phone doesn't connect to the internet anymore. It does connect only for a few minutes sometimes in a day whenever it wishes to otherwise there is no connection. The wifi icon at the notification bar shows complete signals, the wifi finder easily finds the network but there is no connectivity. When I go to my university I can connect easily. So probably the problem is with the landline connection. Is there anyway to manually connect to this connection?

If it finds the network, but can't connect, you're not likely to have any luck by setting it up manually. But if you want to try; open "Settings", click "Wireless & Networks", click "Wi-Fi settings", turn on Wi-Fi, click "Add Wi-Fi network", enter the network's name where it says "Network SSID", choose the security type, enter the password. If you don't know what to fill in, ask someone around you who would.

How to manage differnet network connection (wifi/gprs/usb)??

G'day
I have been using my XDA2s for 6 months now and the worst thing I have found is switching between different network connections.
When i am on the road I use GPRS, in our offices WiFi, and at home USB, but i have not yet found an easy way to swap from one to another. After I go into Wireless Manager (which i have set to the ie button), i select the method, but still need to go into Network Settings -> Advanced -> Select Networks, and change the connection that the Internet uses.
Am I missing something here, or is this what everyone goes through. I should add that i mainly use the network for ActivSync'ing to our Exchange 2003 Server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
Doesn't sound normal; if wifi is on all the time the manager should intelligently select between wifi if it's available or GPRS if it isn't. USB I don't think is managed intelligently, but I might be wrong there; I don't use it.
Do you have it automatically connecting to unprotected wifi networks? Is the wifi at work encrypted or no? What happens when you walk into the hotspot, does the wireless manager change from GRPS to wifi? Stupid question: Do you keep wifi on all the time?
Chris
Hi
No, dont have it accessing any network in range. This is what i do, let me know if its wrong:
On the road when i want to ActivSync, i go into Wireless Manager, and press the GPRS button, then go into Network Management -> Advanced, drop down the "Internet should connect using" and select the Vodafone-GPRS Settings option. Then open up ActiveSync and Sync. I have noticed, if later on the if i just go into ActiveSync and Sync it connects to the internet without having to go into the Wireless Manager. But if i have in the meantime connected to a Wifi network then it doesnt.
When I go into our offices, i go into Wireless Manager, and press the WLAN button, then go into Network Management -> Advanced, drop down the "Internet should connect using" and select the "My Work Network. Then open up ActiveSync and Sync
In My Work Network, i have nothing setup/ticked except for "This Network Connects to the Internet".
In Vodafone-GPRS Settings I have a GPRS modem (Vodafone) setup, and the "This Network Connects to the Internet" ticked.
Paul
The wireless manager should be switching between wifi and GPRS automatically. I don't use Activesync (I'm on a Mac), so I don't know anything about the syncing.
Try keeping the wifi connection on all the time. When you want to use GPRS, just leave the wifi on (which will have no connection if you aren't jumping between hotspots). Don't go into the manager. The wireless manager should realise there is no active wifi connection and then drop down to using GPRS instead.
Try that, tell me how it goes.
Chris
G'day
I preformed a full backup, then cold reset the unit. After that I just let it auto-configure to Vodafone, an presto it works. Docked, WiFi, and GPRS without having to go into the advance setttings every time. Although I will turn of WiFi after 5mins not being used - cant afford by battery to die (normally use it as a phone for over 3hrs a day).
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
Paul

HeeeeeellllllPPP Meeeeee Please...

I connect to Wi-fi Line with Internet, but when i Sign In the messenger dont connect to wi-fi net and turn-on the gprs or 3G
try go to:
settings -> connections -> connections -> advanced -> select networks -> change the "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" to "My Work Networks"
If you want to use GPRS, revert the setting back.
Thanks... Work good

Hmmzz... this doesn't work for me.
When I'm connected to Wi-Fi and I do the setting you describe, I get the error message as shown in the attachment when I want to sign in with Windows Live Messenger. Suggestions?
Something else: when still connected to Wi-Fi and I just leave the connection settings the way they where, and I sign in with Messenger, the Messenger wants to connect by GPRS/3G (the known thing).
But when I then quickly press "Cancel" (or press cancel a few times when one time isn't enough) in the GPRS/3G connection popup, the connection build up will stop and Messenger WILL actually sign me in, seemingly using Wi-Fi.
Do you think I can assume it's really using Wi-Fi and not the cellular connection, since there's NO GPRS/3G connection icon in the top bar at that moment?
If there is no GPRS/3G connection on top bar, it's using a Wifi.
Your prob similiar to my girlfriend's Hp 6828, Just make sure you setting for connection to your hotspot is setted to connect to internet, not to connect to work. and try to set the setting first then connect your wifi. My GF's 6828 prob solve by it.
Strange isn't it?
Then let me know...

problem with live messenger on wm 6

whenever I want to sign in to msn live messenger, my hermes tries to connect to gprs connection. even when I have free direct access to internet through wifi connection.
I tried everything but it still tries to connect.
Apart from live messenger I can connect to every type of internet service through the active wifi connection.
Is this a bug o the live messenger ?
Is there any newer version that beats this bug ?
I believe that it is a "feature" of WLM that no user actually wants but the network operators are quite happy with and probably had a say in.
Best workaround I know of is to have a network set up with no connections defined, and select that in Settings > Connections tab > Connections > Advanced tab > Select Networks. You may already have a network defined there called "Wifi" (my Orange M3100 did).
If you do that, all apps will be forced through wifi (if enabled), but if you want to use GPRS, you will have to switch the network back.
Anyone know of any apps that will make it quick and easy to change this with a single button click? I hoped that Phoneweaver would have it in the profiles but it doesn't
Disconnect from grps...then sign in to msn... then click cancel when it says "connecting"

interesting, it works.
but if I reset, then connect to gprs for any other reason.
and then disconnect.
then it never connects to msn with no gprs connection.
after a reset it works again.
thanks for the workaround...

"this network connects to the internet" keeps clearing

I have never had this problem before and whilst I am not the most technical, I am a long time user of pocketpc's.
When I try to connect to the internet whilst cradled, it tells me this connection cannot connect to the internet. So I go into the connection settings of "My Work Settings" and find the "this network connects to the internet" checkbox is cleared. So I tick it. My network does not have a proxy, so I leave that clear.
I go and try to connect again and get the same. I go back to the connection settings, and the checkbox has cleared again. It doesn't matter how many times I go back and set it, it keeps clearing.
I have tried creating a new connection, still clears. I have tried setting a proxy for SOCKS but not the others...doesn't clear it (the proxy checkbox seems to force the "this network connects to the internet" to stay) but I can't connect because it is looking for a proxy in the https (or so I assume).
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks
I too have this (Athena WM6).
I have a GPRS connection for internet, and a VPN connection for my work network.
I would like to be able to connect to both work and internet via wifi.
Ideally it should be possible to select whether a particular Wireless SSID is work or roaming, but also allow access to the internet from the work network.
Sorry I was mistaken in subject
Can it have something to do with syncing, since your device is in the cradle.
I'm having this issue as well on my Wizard WM6.

wifi connected, but no internet

Hi there,
I was trying to establish a wifi connection to my home network and my HTC S620. I completed the set up and the phone is connected to my network, but when I go to the internet, the error message comes on "your internet connection is not configured properly, ..."
I searched the forums, but couldn't get a relevent thread. Any help is appreciated a lot.
Thanx.
this happenes to me 2. Anyone?...
Im running the 3volution 3.0 rom.
my wifi is not connecting
it found the wireless network but not connect...help me...i am new here
The problem with the devices of the First two posters is, they should tick mark Automatically detect Settings and Set Internet Explorer connections settings to "The Internet".
Also configure your wireless network connection as Connects to: The Internet
And RiPpeRru: Your wireless network as weak signals. For some reason when scanning for network, your device draws a bit more power in scanning to power up the signal reception of excalibur. While it cant connect because of not sufficient signals for normal operation of Wifi
Thank you dark_prince
I`ll keep in mind
