Chefs School - HTC Excalibur

hi
i think its a great idea to have a school for newbie people who want to learn how to cook their own ROMS, helped by the chef teachers that have a lot of expertise cooking their awesome ROMS.
so...what you think guys?
se ya.

Yeah, I still want to learn properly how to make my own roms with proper tutorials. I can't find them anywhere....

In a quick search I found this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396745 you should make an effort in searching. Additionally, you can PM chefs (ookba, stylez, Lovebabijin and many others) so they can guide you better. I'm planning to start cooking soon excalibur roms and Kaiser roms so we can keep alive these magnificient old phones. I'm still trying to manage my time so I can do this, since it requires hours and hours of cooking.

Hola,
Nice to see more Mexicans around!
perhaps if you PM your favourite Chef and ask him to teach you, would be easier than to mount a school

Tom Codon and Meschle Should Join Forces To make a Super Rom.

Hi,
I think tom and meschle should join forces, making a fast, well performing (meschle) rom with good applications with an awesome GUI (tom).
Tom's roms always have amazing bootscreens, themes, and an overall very nice GUI, whilst they lack performance.
Meschle's roms always perform well and are very fast, but they lack the visual aattractiveness as Tom's roms.
Therefore, combining the two would produce an all rounded super rom!
What do you all think?
you can do it, you re the man!
no not me, meschle and tom!
Agreed. But there would still have to be some compromises made as rom can't be 100% as beautiful as Tom's and 100% fast as Meschle's.
Whats wrong with the new Vanilla ? It is just perfect...
Just install HtcHome or what you prefer for your design change bootscreen if you like.
Can it be better ? I guess not
can't find the keyboard icon and skin as in B&B
I don't qgree with you uzzy.
First of all, they are not the only coockers.
More, everybody has its own style: you mention the main difference between these two one but the purpose is to have everybody having its onw "touch" in roms.
Even if it is WM, the coockers are not MS

I agree with you this sener.
I think it would be a lot more effective if we filles the wiki with so much useful information that everybody could cook his own ROMs. The only thing we might need is a kitchen with a better gui. I used both of their ROMs and like both for the stated reasons. Since I couldn't decide which to use I cooked my own ROM.
You'll have to spend about 50 hours of reasearch to be able to create your own version if you are a beginner, with a little help and a lot of computer experience you can handle it in 2 hours or less.
Fast and super stylish won't work, compare XP and Vista!

If you don't like it you don't have to use it, but why deny other people the opportunity to experience something new?
Just because you don't like the idea, doesn't mean you have use your first post ever to stop tom and meschle making a rom together......its their choice, not yours.
And also, where did i say they are the only cookers? - I didn't, so why say "First of all, they are not the only coockers". This fact is totally irrelevant.
I mentioned Tom and Meschle because they are the BEST cookers for Artemis (Not the only ones).
Oh and btw, learn to spell.
Well, they are the best cookers in this forum that publish their work. I'm pretty sure there are guys (or girls?) out there that laugh about the beginner mistakes people are making here.
I'm not saying that I'm better than any other cooker out there, but I never published any ROM for legal reasons and because I don't want 1000 questions/answers for each ROM I produce. No thanx, don't got the time.

I agree on this one!!
If somebody could provide a good kitchen with a better GIU, I would be able to learn to cook myself.
Now I just don't know how to start... you need to read/combine several threads to be able to get the info you need to start to learn...
If just some of those master cookers, can make a decent guide for us, we'll be able to do it ourselfs...
Hopefully one day somebody would do this guide and kitchen with a better gui, cause I really hope I can learn to cook
Believe me, cooking is not very difficult, (in my opinion) the Artemis' Wiki is crap if you are a beginner and want to learn to cook. I recently found out how this works and was amazed how fast you can cook a ROM. I'm currently busy at University but next week my tests are over and I will start creating my tutorials with pictures and videos.
You need HyperCoreKitchen, OK Package Creator and a official ROM, that's it. As soons as you know how to do it you can create your own ROM in minutes. I'll make a big thread out of it, you won't miss it.
I don't want to offend those who have spent a lot of time creating tutorials and writing into the wiki (thanx for your work guys!), but there are almost no all-in-one tutorials. I read in the Kaiser, Hermes, Artemis and some other wikis and forums to get all the informations I needed. Basically if you read the Hermes Cookbook and use OK Package Creator instead of doing all the package stuff it states there then you know what to do.

We understand what you say. You're great.
Get Luck !
NiAx Team.
I am a user of cooked ROMs and I am very very thankful to all the ROM cookers but I can only understand that cookers do this for fun and because they like to be recognized for their job. I cannot understand someone that asks for money for something that he does not take the responsibility for.
Off course that I think some of the cookers deserve the donations but asking for donations and complain because users don’t pay is beyond limits!
Do cookers donate to all the developers of all the applications that cookers include in their ROMs?!

While it is true the ROM Cookers do this for fun (and to some extent for their own use) plus the challenge, they have all these people asking them for this modification and that modification. It all takes time and it is only fair and reasonable that they should ask for Donations and be rewarded for their work.
At the end of the day all they are asking for is a Donation. Remember, Time is Money......so if you like and use a particular ROM...donate if the Cooker has that option.

Maybe you should try cooking a good ROM, to understand how much work and most important the spare time spent to achive it!!
This being said, not to mention, that ervius, not only is a awesome cooker, as he is also a developer of some excelent apps that he always share so we can our cooking experience more satisfying. So don't talk about something you know nothing about!!
I'm also a cooker, and never asked for donations; as a matter of fact, I don't even have a donation link, but sometimes these kind of comments make me wonder if I shouldn't have one, bc I'm wearing down my phone, flashing all the time so I can test my ROMs before releasing.
And sometimes I have to put up with some nagging from some users that are never satisfied and want more of this or less of that, with some disregard for my time and effort. What keeps me going is that there are still many users that are pleased by my work and encourage me, by some compliment or even by some help(sometimes precious help) in solving some issues that I wasn't able to test before...
So, maybe you should think and do some of the dirty work before talking nonsense...
I agree with you 100%!! I can only imagine the effort and time spent on releasing those application. It's surely very difficult to make such perfect ROMS as yours and satisfy all users' needs.
So I take the opportunity to thank all ROM cookers and especially ervius for bringing some crucial tools for the development of applications for our trinities.
Keep up the good work guys!!
I absolutely agree with finixover.
I would like to thank ervius for his help and for everything he does for us cookers.
Again thank you
Hi
+1 For finixnover
ERVIUS the king cookers . APPS or tools is the best ...
VERY THANK's FOR MR ERVIUS ...

For me asking for money takes away de xda-developers spirit. Can you imagine if developers of open distros of Linux start asking for money?
Anyway I am in favor of putting a donation link, I would donate to you, FInixNOver, if you have a donation link, I am using your ROM and I am very happy with it. What made me write was the fact he was saying almost something like "I’ll do it if you pay".
I can imagine the time you all spend on this, and again I am really thankful.

Ervius, you've done a very good job, I am even thinking to flash your latest ROM over FInixNOver’s ROM and If I start using yours I will donate!
cooking a good rom is a bit like porting macOs on a PSP... but without credit from apple.
so may i say "big up to all romcooker around the world"? yes i think so

Welcome to the board. You gotta be careful of that question. You have like 30 chefs on here and you're probably going to get flamed for not researching. I guess the best way to decide which ROM is the best is to decide what you want to use your device for. Then start reading. Or you could cook your own. Before I started cooking, I used JoshKoss, CRC, Mick Smith's. They are all good. Just read my friend.

WHOA WHOA slow down you over-achiever. Take a deep breath. Now, this should be your first read. It has a BUNCH of info. The site has a WIKI also that answers a ton of stuff. Yes, I have a Yahoo ID. It's in my signature, just send an invite.
lol...yes indeed. Your question is almost begging to be flamed. Though you may also get lucky and get away with it Like the above poster said there isn't anything like a specific 'best' ROM for a phone. Its a personal preference. The wiki is an excellent place for you to get started on getting to understand everything you need to know about you phone. Use the search option for any question you have. Your bound to find relevant results on almost any type of search. Happy reading and welcome to the board.

sorry guys,, newbees fault...
after i got the first answer i have found teh WIKI.. no bad intentions here...
i just saw so many ROMS... and i hardly know what they are.. just now trying to find out.. somebody enlighten me pls..
i am reading, reading..
thanks..
Start with CRC's rom.. good, fast, stable
This cant be flamed, BTW!!!! this can be great apreciatted.
I meet many designers and has magic on their hands (and HD's full of tricks on photoshop's projects!) well if you want to start... you can talk with joshkoss, CRC, abuzalsa and many others... cause at this time they are trying to change some icons in .PNG and .ICO full glossy pics maybe 32 x 32 or less like the Notification Icons in upper bar... so talk to him about your skills maybe you can give us new Icons or something... read about the images on the ROMS... what extension, or what kind, sizes, and wheigts...
Hope you can find your work here.

Building a rom?

Is it fairly easy to begin learning how to make a rom? I mean I love delving into new projects and getting my teeth into things and I do alot of .Net programming and I would be very intrested to have a look around and see what is possible, and if all successfull I can post a rom for the community if not then well I had a bit of fun trying.
I know it won't be an easy job to do much or even get it stable and I know people put a hell of a lot of work into making one but it would be an intresting project.
Regards, max
