Hello,
I started flashing my device with cocked ROM'S before few days and every time that I flash it , the contacts that I saved to my device are deleted, There is a way to save the information before I flash? ( The Name, Mobile Number, B-Day, Email, Face book link? , Even just the name and number).
Thank you and sorry about the bad English.

There are several ways to backup your info. The easiest is to use Outlook and sync your info up that way. When you reflash, just resync, and your info is saved back. You can also use Microsoft's Myphone, which is free and works well. SBP backup is another option, but isn't free. I use both SBP backup and the outlook method though, just to make sure I don't ever lose my contacts.

I have been using a free program called PimBackup. Just google it and you will find it. It works great. It saves everything that you mentioned plus your text messages too. I hope this helps.

Another (paid) solution is Jeyo Mobile Companion, it has a longer list of other features.
But...the best free solutions are still MyPhone and PIMBackup as mentioned above...both/either of them will backup your contacts, SMS messages, appointments, etc and should serve your pre-flashing needs. MyPhone backs your stuff up to the cloud, and lets you access it all from any PC via a web interface. PIMBackup does it locally, but very well also. I'd suggest giving them both a try to see what works best for you

...If you need to do backups of everything (all messages AND contacts etc.) and you're within range of a PC when you do it, Jeyo Mobile Companion seems to do a brilliant job...

restoring of messages after hard reset
Hi,
I need help on restoring my messages..I did a hard reset on my XDA IIs and reinstalled smsbackup but was unable to restore the messages back..I opened the directory where I stored my messages in my storage card (that’s where I exported and backed up the messages to prior doing the hard reset), I was able to see all the stored messages..
I’m not too sure if I did my settings right but here’s how the settings being configured:
Output directory : \storage card
Execute directory : \storage card
The 2 main .dll and .exe files were placed in \windows\smsbackup
Would appreciate if I could have your valuable advise on this issue..Thank You..
I'm getting errors with this.
xMessage:GetAttachments
Read failed.
I've got the settings right for the paths, backing up to \My Documents\Personal
Any ideas? Or have I come across a bug? Does this app have any logs that anyone knows of for tracing this kind of issue?
I've been getting the same error message ... smsBackup just doesn't seem to work on my IIs either, and I've tried installing it immediately after a hard reset just in case it was due to some other program!
When it fails without effort, it sucks
Fails on my Harrier. (XV6600). Same error messages.
I'd use Jeyo, but they don't grok folders other than the
default folders.
Ehud
Anyone know who the author is of the software and how we can contact them?
I think the failure I am getting is related to an email that contains another email as an attachment.
Re: smsBackup, smsHide, Allexport
Hello,
It will be available a new program (not a new version) in few hours: smsOrganizer!
You will be able to use all functions of smsBackup, smsHide, Allexport and much more:
· Message Blacklist and/or Whitelist
· Message Backup/Restore manually or automatic by rules/profiles
· Message Encrypt
· Export Messages
· Forward Messages automatic by rules/profiles
· Hide/Unhide Messages manually or automatic by rules/profiles
· Reply Messages automatic by rules/profiles
· Store Messages in custom folders manually or automatic by rules profiles
· Message Tone for Contacts/Category/Phone Number by profiles
You can use the smsOrganizer trial version for free.
This program is full compatible with the following programs:
smsBackup
smsHide
Allexport (messages function only)
When you will use the smsBackup and the smsHide functions then the trial version of smsOrganizer allows you free to use maximal 3 functions (rules) – perhaps one for the backup and one for the hide function. And of course you will be able to export and restore your messages too.
So please download the smsOrganizer trial version for FREE!
If you like it, you can buy the program and use all of the functions.
Download smsOrganizer!

What about reading messages from and copying messages to the simcard itself? i cant seem to find software that can do that. kinda annoying, i cant read old messages from my sim. know any software that can do that?
Well...
Hi anevemkovacs...
...to be quite honest, I've had a disapointment with SMSOrganizer...
I've been using SMSBackup for some time... and I always used without a problem... but a while ago I was forced to change to SMSOrganizer (SMSBackup told me to go get a newer version and didn't let me use it anymore).
Well... I configured SMSOrganizer... and asked it to backup my SMSs (that's all I needed)... it took me ages and I wasn't able to finish the process!!!! When I used SMSBackup the process was completed in some 15 seconds (if it took that much)... Whit SMSOrganizer it was running for 15 minutes... and the process is almost at the beggining... :O((((
Do you think this is just some bug or does the increased funcionality of this new application makes it soooo slow?
Thanks for everything...
i like smsbackup whats with the forced upgrade? i'm curious to try smsorganizer but it may not sit well with some being pushed into it. is the smsorganizer trial version also time limited?
any chance making smsbackup available again? in case smsorganizer might not work out for me (angelito seems to be having issues with it).
Well...
Hi thorne...
Don't get me wrong... For what I've seen SMSOrganizer is quite complete... and it's a nice upgrade from the SMSBackup in terms of funcionalities... however... for me is way to slow (but it may be any bug or any configuration I have on my Qtek2020).
But I do, in fact, had all I wanted in SMSBackup... it was simple and fast.
(OH!!! I still wasn't able to do that backup since SMSBackup went on vacations )
Just to inform...
Hi thorne...
I haven't tried it yet... but there's an update to smsOrganizer (at http://www.zedsoft.net/, as usual). According to anevemkovacs it will correct the problem I had... I'll try it today, later at night... and I'll give a feedback on how it worked out.
About the time limit I really don't have a clue if smsOrganizer is also defined to last a certain amount of time... but I supose so... since both smsBackup and AllExport worked like that...
EDITED [06.09.2005 23h12]
I've tried the v1.01 and everything's OK now!
And the speed is just like smsBackup... I think you can migrate to smsOrganizer without fear now...
see ya!
thanks for the heads up dude! i'm gonna give it a try over the weekend
Wouldn't it be easier to just make a full backup from day 2 day?
I've tried the smsorganizer.. there's a new version online..
The backup bug has been fixed.. I've just manage to do a back up.
Export work as well too.. It creates a txt of the sms in the specified folder.
However store feature doesn't seem to work.. but that's secondary to me..
As long as I can backup and restore plus export them out.. I'm good to go..

ActiveSync4.5 & Contacts problem

Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated

used active sync and lost contacts

Hi all,
I'm in serious trouble. I just used active sync 4.5 to sync my hermes to a new install of Outlook and have lost all my contacts.
Is there anything I can do to get these back? I'm using binky's verion 3.9 and version .25c of pocket cm..
I have no backup of the contacts, unfortunately... Am I in serious trouble and lost the lot?
Mmmm. This happpened to me a long time ago. One of the causes is that the date of your new outlook (date of your system) was younger than the date of what was on your PDA. The system thinks that you erased all in outlook and makes the modifications on the PDA accordingly. Moreover, most of the time the sync is in the mode "replacing the elements on the PDA". You end with all your contacts lost.
In my case, when i sync a new flash on the PDA, i take care that the date of the PDA is older than the date of my PC (just change the "year" for ex.) So outlook will update my PDA and nothing is lost. Moreover, when I do that, i copy the "outlook" directory (in user/yourname/appdata/local/microsoft. You have to enable the seeing of hidden files) somewhere. So i have at least a backup.
I believe you cannot recover your data unless you had a backup. But i am not an expert
Hope this helps
Are you sure your contacts isn't in the "deleted" folder in Outlook?
This is why everybody always says. Watch what you are doing and take a backup. When it was asking you what to do. You should have choose to combine items on both devices.
The only way now is to check in the deleted folder of outlook if you have not already reinstalled office. Or the only way is to check if you have any contacts left in your sim.
Or better to start over in getting all the contacts from the persons you meet. Hope you didn't lost the number you met in the club last night.
Chill
The funny thing is that I didn't get the usual popup asking the question if I wanted to combine like one does when first time syncing. I figured it kept my previous sync's data with the phone. Thought I had a backup but don't.
I got my backup working eventually...
All back working... Thanks for the comments.
i just had the same thing happen to me last night. i loaded a new system and put office on it and synced it to my phone and all gone. i really really hate activesync. i really wish there was a good alternative.
Pim Backup. 2.8 is the latest version. You will never lose your contacts again.
Pim backup is slightly different to Activesync though. It is more of a static backup (though you may be able to schedule backups).
Its always good though, to use a backup program as well as activesync for these little accidents that happen.
Pim Backup is faster (I have about 700 contacts), easier to use and eliminates all the problems you get when you have a new flash. It is my choice to use and many others. I no longer sync my contacts with ActiveSync. Oh yeah - I store my pim backups on my SD card.

How do I backup my SMS's

Hi there.
I have quite a lot of SMS's on my MDAII that I need to backup.
How do I do this?
Thanks.
Gyc
this morning I read your post, I thought about a application Microsoft recently made, myphone or something. It syncs your sms to a webservice, linked to a live account. You can also see the sms online.
After a week or so I got problems with this one, it slowed done my phone terribly!
but a minute ago I read about SMSSyncUp! It is from mohitsapru here on this forum. It syncs you sms to gmail, probably better then live ;-) I have not yet tried it, only installed it.
oh by the way, those are for if you want to read your messages via another way, there is also PimbackupPPC, can automatically backup all of you PIM into a compressed format!

Small facebook & contact issues

I'm sort of stabbing in the dark here, but my issue is this: When I open my received text messages, the peoples contacts that I have sync'ed with facebook should show their photo. This is how it worked when I first got my phone.
I have done a few factory resets since then, and yesterday loaded a new rom. I loaded my contacts that I had backed up to SD card.
For some strange reason ALL of my contacts have hiphens ( - ) in their phone numbers. I think this is causing some texts to not be delivered.
Also, when in the messages window, all of my contacts photos wont be displayed. But if I go to the people directory they are displayed fine.
Now, is there a way I can delete the cache or similar without factory resetting the rom?
I have rom manager, and I used this to reboot into recovery before loading a new rom. In there was options for deleting cache and things (to be honest I didn't know which was the correct one so I did them all before loading a new rom). Now when I go into rom manager it just loads a sign like this a!
so I cannot try that again.
Thanks for any help given!!
Why did you back up to memory card if they're going to be saved to the cloud via your Google account?
Otherwise I have no answer for your question.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I had all sorts of problems with the facebook integration.
The magor one I had was that the phone would automatically use the facebook phone number and not the one in the phone which was very annoying when people put fake numbers in their facebook profile or don't update for their new number and also all the numbers had a +44 on them which meant my phone wouldn't dial them at all!
My advice is remove your facebook account and see what happens. The try adding it again. If the problems persist then keep it removed. Life will be easier without your phone and facebook contacts being merged and updated all the time... trust me!
Phil
Thanks for your replies.
Regarding the backing up of contacts, does anyone recommend a GOOD FREE app for backing them up? I simply do not wish to use Google to back up my contacts. They are personal, and I would prefer to keep them on the phone. Google contacts is pointless to me.
If you would like Google contacts I have no say but I would rather not have my contacts spread out all over the place, with different versions etc...
It's going to take me forever to edit everyones phone number, and each time I flash a ROM I'll need to do it again..
Worst still, since flashing PaYs ROM the Google sync actually worked for the very first time since receiving the phone - So, now Google contacts has all of my contacts but the phone numbers have dashes is ( - ) which is wrong. Like the person above me, us in the UK have issues when dialing strange numbers!
Google contacts is fine, means you never have to worry about them being backed up as it's automatic...otherwise you've gotta sync them with yur email client on your PC which is hassle...I was a stickler for backing up to Outlook but now use Google...
The dashes come up after restoring contacts from the SD card...don't know why it does it but it can't be removed (another reason not to back up to sd card)
while in the htc people app, just press menu button then you can export your contacts to your sd card, which you can then later on import again.
