Ok, I installed a cab which I think was wrong for my phone - It's the BignAdad transparent taskbar cab. I have a TP2. Anyway, now I can't access all settings nor can I go into the start menu, everything else works properly although it's a bit slower and the icons at the top of the screen don't display properly.
Because of the functions that are disabled, i cannot uninstall this cab. I do have total commander. Can I uninstall it from there? If I have to reset to factory settings (not a problem as I won't lose anything major and I have everything backed up on my pc), how do I do that? Can i do it from my phone or is there a part on the phone I have to press in with a pin or something?
Please help me out!!!!

What you're talking about is called a Hard Reset...and if you're already installing cabs you find online without knowing about hard resets and how and when to do them, you're getting dangerously ahead of yourself. Use the search box in the top right to look for "TP2 Hard Reset", and read very carefully...you need to make sure you know as much as you can about the possible consequences of your tinkering and how to undo it before you start making potentially disabling changes.

Hi there,
Could anyone assist? I am trying to make a cab of personal settings to reset my registry settings to after a hard reset, but am having trouble with Permanent Save. I have contacts, appointments and tasks stored in the permanent area, and after I do a hard reset I can go into Permanent Save on the control panel, tick the boxes and all my contacts reappear and all is well.
However, if I take a snapshot of the registry before activating the tickboxes, and then afterwards and apply the differences, it overrights the existing data with nothing. The keys I have tried are
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\AdvancedCPL]
"CalendarPassCheck"=dword:00000001
"ContctPassCheck"=dword:00000001
"EnabledStateCalendar"=dword:00000001
"EnabledStateContact"=dword:00000001
"EnabledStateTask"=dword:00000001
"TASKPassCheck"=dword:00000001
It does work in ticking the boxes, but not in doing a restore - well only a restore to no data. Do I have to make some changes to any files as well?
Thanks!
Q.
Hello Q I'm in exactly the same boat, if you look at the \storage\persavebackup folder from you PC you'll see a bunch of files the saved info will look like TaskRecord.txt etc and yup they get overwriten with files of 0 value when I run my script and do a soft reset or add in new values.
I've tried copying files back into the persavebackup folder to see if they are then picked up but no joy - its very odd must be missing something.
I thought the entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Pim\schedID might be something to do with it as an entry is put in here when there is data saved with perm save but didnt seem to make any difference when I changed this.
if I get anywhere I'll post back.
Why would you want to use the permanent save anyway?
I mean, hey, xBackUp is there, innit?
I've encountered this problem with my Jasjam this morning. Similar to the Wizard problem, in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267765. The funny thing is that SKtools and Pocket Mechanic can see the installed programs. But WM6 " remove Programs" doesn't show anything. Can't install any programs.
Can anyone please provide ALL the keys and data info from this registry folder: HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\ so I can try to repair my Jasjam.
hi, this is from my TyTN, hope it help, but I am not sure about that, it is nothing important I guess...
but I think you need somethink in this view -
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\
check also this view - \\Windows\\AppMgr\\ - here should be some tmp files -
"Uninstall"="\\Windows\\AppMgr\\C. Ghisler & Co. Total Commander\\9F01.tmp"
this is how it look like on my side
Many Thanks sinmae.
Uhm- I've tried to install the 1st policies reg and reset - but still no good.
Before I installed the 2nd Registries, AppInstall. I've examined my registry data before install and it is empty. Then I've installed it. All installed programs now appeared back in the AppInst regisries But still nothing appear in the Remove Programs option ( also tried reset too).
Do you have any more suggestions ??????

Have you tried connecting your phone to USB on your PC and using the Add/Remove programs option from the toools menu in ActiveSync? I presume it loads the list from the same registry settings on the device itself but could be worth a try.
Tried that but no good.
Anyway, what I did was with the registries fixed, did a full backup with Sprite backup ( luckily - already installed in PDA), then do hard reset, reinstall from backup, then it worked !!!!! - everything back to normal- all installed programs appeared in " Remove program" Option again . Many thanks guys.
I had the same problem on my HTC Mogul, upon pl55's suggestion I made a backup image using SPB Backup, then hard reset my devices and restored from the image. Thankfully that solved it.

You are talking about MRU list, when you run program it places own icon into MRU list, if you don't want to wait, run 3-5 different programs and they pull out your "dead" icon.
Why can't I "Remove Programs"?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am using a S621 (aka S620, aka Excalibur, aka Dash) running WM6 and when I select Remove Programs (Start>Settings>More>Remove Programs) there are no programs on the list at all.
Ideas?
What is it that you want to remove? What 3rd party apps have you installed?
Any app that is part of the installed ROM won't show up in the remove programs.
If you install 50 or more apps to your device the remove program list will be blank when accessing it from settings. You will have to use activesync from your PC to remove programs.

Really? That is strange. That was probably the problem.
Anyways I had been meaning to change from the Russian ROM to the HTC Official one for a while anyways, so I just did that last night. So it doesn't matter anymore (as upgrading removed all my programs, of course), but that is good to know for the future. Thanks.

Need help REMoviNG application please?
I downloaded some applications that i decided that i didnt need (Yahoo Go, Streaming Media Player, Etc)
When i delete them out of my Folders, i still have the icon in the Start menu...is there anyway to remove the icon?
Thanks
Go to settings, page 2, click on remove programs, then choose which ones you want to remove.
If you have total commander you can take em off easily. just open total commaner, go to windows-start menu. Go to icon you want to remove and hit file softkey and delete. Takes off start menu.
Never Do That Unless Everything Else Isn't Possible
You should always go to remove programs like stated above. It's in Settings then more then remove programs. Always, do that instead of just deleting the folders. It removes everything.
Removing programs that come with rom
Hey was wondering if anyone knows how to uninstall programs such as Office mobile, command processor, orneta calculator, resco explorer, cele task just to name a few. I am running ricky's v23 and they were built into rom. I know i can flash to vanilla rom but I like the fact omap clock thats built in keeps setting on what you choose with no further need to set it again. Also like alot of his built in features so dont really wanna flash if i dont have to but wanna free up space and get rid of stuff i don't want. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
As far as I know, you can't but there is a way but i think it is complicated. I don't quite remember what you are supposed to do but i think you'd have to basically re-cook the ROM to your personal preference. The best person to ask this would be rickywatt himself. Get in touch with him and he'll guide you in the right direction. hope everything works out the way you want it !
If you look in Rickys thread, previous ROMS, he has a "vanilla" version.
Thats the one you are looking for.

I think he just doesnt want to flash the phone, thats the reason why he was trying to find out on how to do it. it kinda takes some time to get the phone the way you like it after you flash it, I would like to know how to get rid of those programs as well with out having to flash the phone.
Remove Programs Problem
Hello,
I am trying to remove some programs I have installed, however when I go into settings > remove programs, the list is blank. I have let it sit for up to 10 minutes hoping that it would populate but no luck. I am able to remove programs with active sync. I have used the remove programs feature with no trouble in the past. Have any of you ever had this problem or know what could be preventing programs from showing up in the list?
How many programs did you have installed? I remember there used to be a problem with WM6.0 where, if you had over a certain number of programs installed, the list wouldn't display.
Hi all,
I saved loads of information on my tytn II during the summer. Very important files (notes most often). I was stupid enough to let WM6 store this on the main folder instead of the micro SD card.
Earlier this evening, I tried to use the camera and the phone froze (classical...) so I pressed "reset". Except it never really restarted! I could just reach the WM6 picture on the screen and it would stay there for ages... until a white screen with black text made it clear that a program was running while i'd pressed reset (i really doubt it, i hadn't launched anything), and that i'll have to press reset to recover the initial configuration of the phone. I pressed reset just once (too scared to do a hard reset, im not crazy enough yet) but it still does the same thing, gets locked on the WM6 screen but never shows the damned white screen with the terrible message.
Is there any (even very expensive) way to retrieve the data? I hope it's not lost...
Thanks for your help guys, im a newbie and im really starting to hate WM6.
a friend of mine asked me to use bootloader... but i dunno how to use it with the software on the computer (it doesn't even display the USB port).
Actually the message on the white screen said that i could go back to the initial settings and lose all data if i pressed "send", which I never did...
I just wanna find a way to get files in "mydocuments" folder or something.
is it possible to "fix" the ROM, or save everything in a microSD card and retrieve the data?
thank you

For starters, you may find a bit more help in your devices sub-forum.
Second, unless you've flashed a new ROM, I don't see a reason for you to enter bootloader, if you do, it won't hurt anything.
Also, what have you done to your device that you think may have caused this?
i haven't done much except reset the device because WM6 was frozen (I loaded the camera application and it got stuck there for miiiiiinutes). tsk tsk. I'll wait until anyone replies in the device section.
Thank you
I want to install themes and I've read just about everything out there on this subject and still don't understand how to do it safely for this phone. There are a ton of threads on this but not one of them explains how to go about installing themes safely.
Some say just dump the .tsk files into the windows folder, others say use Diamond TF3D Config, others say not to use it because there's a version coming out specifically for the HD, others say cabs aren't as good as .theme files because you may not be able to uninstall the cab...
So I'm asking...for those of you who try out almost every theme that comes out...how are you doing it? Can you explain what you use, which types of theme files you use, how you safely change from one theme to another, and why your method is the method you choose to use?
Here are some things I've read that I'm not sure are true or not (please confirm/reject if you know):
-xxx.tsk files are a type of theme file you need to put in the Application folder and are only good for the "top and bottom bars"
-you have to use Diamond TF3D Config to install xxx.theme files; there are 2 versions of this software, one for gsm and one for cdma; you may need to delete the "tweaks file" for this software to work; there is a new version (version 1.0) coming out specifically for the Touch HD
-some say you must install xxx.theme files into the windows directory...others say you can install them in any folder you want
-even after installing a theme, you may need to perform extra steps to fix the top and bottom bars and to have the correct background
So, I know these things, but still don't understand. What is the cleanest way to install and change themes without leaving behind clutter files...is it by using a cab, by using a zip, by using diamond tf3d config?
I'd greatly appreciate if someone experienced who's tried different methods of installing/changing themes would respond and help clarify some of these confusing details.
anybody know?

Well it really depends on what you want to change. TSK files really only change the color of the top and bottom bars, highlights, etc. If you are referring to changing icons, transparency, etc of Manila/TouchFlo, that is a bit more involved. There are applications out there like Maxycy's TF3D Theme Maker that will assist with this. Also, like you said, there are lots of cabs floating around with customizations in them. Most, if not all cabs can be uninstalled. Your best bet if you want to start playing with your device is to get some backup software, like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup, and then playing with your device. Then you don't need to be worried about messing it up. You could just do a hard reset and then restore the backup and be back to where you were before playing around

Thanks alot for your response. I have sprite backup and have made many backups but was hoping not to ever have to restore from one (afraid it won't work perfectly)...that's why I'm trying to understand all of the details. I guess my only concern is not being able to go back to a previous state EXACTLY as it was before installing a theme. From all of the methods available, what would you say is the best (not necessarily the easiest) and cleanest way to prevent random files from appearing or disappearing after installing or removing a theme?

If you have Sprite Backup, do a full backup. Once you have that you can completely destroy the current setup on your phone. Once you hard-reset just execute the backup file Sprite created. When the restore comes up do a merge level 1 restore. It will put your phone back to the exact state it was before. I have done this many many times as I do craptons of testing

Thanks man, I took a step forward and did my first manila mod last night. It's amazing...by simply taking three manila files I found in Maxycy's Theme Maker and replacing the originals with them, I now have background for all tabs and a new clock ha. I've also downloaded m9editor and Manila Editor and have a better understanding of how individual files influence the system. Thanks again for the support...who knows maybe I'll even be able to create a theme one day.

I was on a roll until now...I encountered my first serious problem and will need to hard reset and restore from backup. You mentioned to do a merge level 1 restore. Is this what I should do even if I have all original ROM, radio, etc? From what I've read on the Sprite website, level one is the most "complicated" level and is MOST likely to fail. However, you and others on here say to use level 1 bc it causes the LEAST problems.
My default settings are as follows:
-unchecked box for "delete all files"
-checked box for "check for corrupt registry"
-system settings restore set to "merge" instead of replace
-upgrade mode set to "personal data only" instead of merge
How come one option is set for merge and the other isn't? Should I change the upgrade mode option to merge level 1? I'm assuming this option wouldn't apply to me since I haven't upgraded anything, but I'm not sure...
[and just for information/advise: my problem occurred when I clicked on the cab for sdkcerts that came with the Max TTM program. The program worked perfectly and everything was ok until I clicked on that cab. I wanted to install custom taskbars and read that you needed sdkcerts first, so I clicked on the sdkcerts cab I just happened to find in the Max TTM folder (bad move). Ever since doing so, almost half of my programs no longer open bc it's either "missing a component or is not certified." So, long story short, don't click on the sdkcerts cab or install another sdkcerts cab after installing Max TTM bc Max TTM already has a sdkcerts cab which I'm assuming automatically installs when you install Max TTM]
EDIT: I went ahead and restored via sprite backup with the settings described above and it worked PERFECTLY...all of my contacts, appointments, programs, system settings, background, where I left off in a game, etc etc is now EXACTLY how it was at time of backup. The restoration went without any warnings or errors...I'm stunned at how perfect it went. Thanks again...
The only time you would want to do a merge level 1 restore is if you are restoring to a different rom than you backed up from. If you are restoring to the same rom that you created the backup from you can do a full, normal restore.
