hello,
i used original WM6.0 ROM until 2 weeks ago. my battery kept 3 days back then (only 2G, no WLAN, no 3G).
now i upgraded to the actual 6.5.x ROMs (23xxx and 28xxx quePPC and TAI).
the battery drains extremely.
i recharged 100% - left the phone unused for 7h - and have only 80% left. That's way to much - for a unused phone.
My question is:
- what ROM can you recommend, that saves battery life almost as good as the original 6.0 ?
- i still have the original 6.0 ROM Upgrade-Setup-Exe.
Wow can i downgrade to original ROM - only the WM, i want to keep
the installed HardSPL - and want to keep the installed RadioRom.
My technical data:
- herm100
- radio 1.47.00.00 ( i never used another one!)
- all "DisablePowerManagement"-Registry Settings are = 0
- Beam is off
- background light is lowest level
- 3G is off
Adjust your background lighting. Take it from full brightness to about half and your battery life will increase alot. Also adjust how long before the screen turns itself off. This helps a lot also. All this can be done in settings.
I recomend you... WM6.0 or feed back your questions on the right thread please Three days? WOW i always need to recharge my hermes everyday and i tho it was normal... jijijiji
Yes you can downgrade to WM6.0 again and the Hardspl remains
LOL! I charge my phone nightly also. I never even got 3 days of battery on my wizard. Heck my wife doesn't get 3 days on her sidekick!
@queppc: what exactly do i have to do to flash back to original rom - to keep hardspl (i have the original setup package) .
i need to change Romupdateutility.exe somehow - or take of the bootloader of the setup-package - don't i ?
@addicus/all: yes, 3 days is possible. and about the wizard. my wife has a wizard. she charged it last monday - then yesterday (friday).
that's even 4 days! - but i have to admit, she hardly uses it. only once a day email check (via WLAN), 1-2 SMS - that's it.
(by the way: i already turned my backlight to lowest level)
ok - I use my phone constantly - phone calls, internet browsing, texting, picture viewing. I'm a freaking junkie. I get a day out of mine (with extended battery) and make sure I charge while driving because bluetooth headset and speaking drain the battery a lot!
Not to mention using Tomtom......
hello,
i didn't downgrade to 6.0 yet (since i still don't know what's exactyl to do - to downgrade, but keep hardspl?)
but it looks like my problem is gone:
all i changed is
- i reformated my SDHC card (i assume this is not the reason)
- i changed my band settings to GSM / GSM 900+1800 + UMTS 2100
-> before i only switched of 3g with the wireless manager - i thought it's the same, but maybe not.
both changes does not really sound like the solution to my battery problem - but it is.
now i have good battery life again! ok, my PDA has never 100%, after taking it of the charger it immediately goes to 97%. then in the beginning it drains a litte faster - it does not take long to around 86% or even 81%.
But then the battery indicator decreases very, very slow.
maybe that battery-indicator with single 1% steps is not that accurate (?)
now my hermes battery drain is ok again. it rests for more than 2 days - depends on usage of course.
i assume if i don't use it it rests for 3 days (i never had the chance to not use it for 3 days ;-)
AFTER THIS - i also did another update. i use TAI V4 now (28205 build). battery life is still ok.
I recharge my phone every night and it is enough for using one day, BUT if I am listening audio book via Bluetooth the battery is empty in two - three hours!
Most of wm6.5 roms have the infrared beam automatically turned on. It drains battery! If it doesn't appear on comm. manager you have to do this:
Open "Advanced Config", then click Menu -> More Settings -> Comm Manager. There select Beam. If you want to choose among more than 6 comm you have to choose on the top Button style: Default
Then soft reset
When turned on again, go to connections and check if Beam is turned on or off.

Great information right there. Also to the OP - if you want a WM 6.0 rom and keep HardSpl - just flash the rom. That's what you're doing when you flash the base AT&T rom before flashing a custom rom anyways. If I were you I'd go no lower than 6.1 though. In fact, you may want to try one of CRC's roms as they are very stable.

Hi all,
I've just spent a good amount of time browsing these forums - lots of good info here!
I've got my hands on a free i-mate jasjar from work as it is having battery issues and they just upgraded the user.
The issue is that it drains the battery in about 3-4 hours - thats with no sim in, phone / wireless / bluetooth turned off, very minimal use. We got a new battery for it in case that was the issue but it still loses it...
The other ones we have at work get at least a day / day and a half depending on usage.
I've reflashed it to the latest i-mate firmware (1.30.76 WWE) but stilll no luck....
Aside from sending it off for an expert to look at - does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to diagnose / fix the problem?
Cheers
Sam
disable activesync checks
in wm5 activesync checks every 10 minutes or so for new data even if you do not have a server installed.... so.... here are the steps.....
with the device disconnected from the computer !
1. click "start"
2. click "programs"
3. click "activesync"
4. right soft button "menu"
5. click "add server to source"
6. fill in "1" in every field clicking "next" as you go through the proccess! (or any other fake data you want)
when you get to choosing what to sync, uncheck everything and click "finish"
7. right soft button "menu" again, now you'll have "schedule" lit
8. click "schedule"
9. change both drop down menus to "manually" and uncheck s"end outgoing items immediately"
10. click "ok"
11. right soft button "menu" again
12. click "options"
13. select the "exchange server", click "delete" and "yes"
14. click "ok"
YOUR DONE !
the device should last a lot longer !
have fun !
p.s.
don't forget to disable IR so the device won't try syncing with the sun ....
Great - I've set it up and will test it out over today - thanks for the reply
Make sure your infra red is also off, receive all beams is unticked.
Presumably you're not using any over clocking software? They disable the idle mode detection so make the battery less efficient, even at slow clocked speeds.
V
Infrared is off, currently its got fresh firmware as off yesterday, charged overnight - no sim, every conceivable option turned off, no extra s/w installed.
Since 9am its now down to 85% - roughly using 10% per hour with zero use....
I have the Same Issue ,the battey use very fast .
at the first I think may be is the net lock make that, But yesterday ,I try to use the unlock tools ,but same as it.
the charge complete. close all function ,can't use more than 8 hour's.
I've the same issue,...change a batery with a new one, BUT when it goes les than 70% all the problem start, loose the phone signal, shot down....I've a official Qtek 9000 ROM of febr. '06

I think That's the Radio or Hard device error.
If other Rom have not This issue. I think that's this rom make it .
There are a number of threads regarding batteries and new ROM versions and I think the concensus is that its the battery and it is just coincidence about the new ROM.
I have had my device for about 8 months and it has behaved well until a few weeks ago when it started to shut-down at 70-80% battery. The shutdown only occured when I had a heavy drain on the device e.g. when using GPRS or phone and I started to think that the battery was dying and the heavy current drawn by the radio caused the battery voltage to drop below a sustainable threshold for powering the device - hence the shutdown. £20 later I have a new battery (from eBay) and can go 1-2 days without charging. I am leaving the old battery on charge for several days to see if it can be salvaged

Thank you help, But I return to the old version ROM. the batteries is OK. I don't know how to explain them
Try measuring the power consumption with acbPowerMeter and post your results so that we can see your device indeed has problems or not. See my related articles for more info (cross-posted to the General forum in here).
My Universal power consumption
With BT on and Wifi off power is at 642 mA...
Is it bad or good?

What that's mean?
it means that the device has bt turned of, and also wifi turned of and acbmeter indicates a power consumption of 642
I also seem to have started incurring a problem with battery, it is shutting down the device at 50%, and yes there was a slight draing GPRS and Push Email running, and trying to make a phone call.
It only really happened today, and am at a loss as to the cause. I would guess, the battery is 1 year old and probably needs replacing.
i have been using two different 3.2 roms ltcmdr, then jw's for a while now and no problems until today.
I suspect its the age of the battery. I am in the process of trying to suck the battery down as far as I can, then recharge it.
It appears to do a complete shutdown every 2% from 50% to 40%, I am now trying to get it to less than 40%.
My original battery lasted me for about 8 months when I started experiencing the shutdown / hanging problem whenever the charge would drop to 35%. I replaced the battery with a new original battery and all went okay. Unfortunately my second battery is only 5 months old and I have started experiencing the same problem again although this time the problem is occurring at a charge level of 15%. When the battery reaches this level and I try to connect GPRs or make or receive a call the unit hangs. If I try to soft reset I cannot do so till I connect the external charger.
I think such a low battery life is simply unacceptable.
Regards
Ever wonder how a battery tells the system that it is full and to stop charging?
If you get a new battery, take the old one down to somewhere below 100% -then install a new ROM and see what the battery meter reads after the hard reset.
The system must recognize a point which would be monitored and recognized as "full battery". When installing new ROM's, the system takes the battery power at the time of the install as 100%. This is why it is reiterated in almost all ROM upgrade instructions:
"Your device battery must be fully charged before installing this ROM".
However, I'm not so keen as to have a fix; but I've noticed that when the battery is fully charged and the device is then unplugged, turned on and then off, then plugged back in...it seems to charge alot longer than what I would expect necessary to reach 100% once again.

I have updated my tp2 with the official dutch 6.5 rom.
But my battery is eating in a day !! with use.
and no I have no push internet ,wheater or stocks updates automaticly on !!
While with winmobile 6.1 2 days battery time with verry often internet use !
Sometimes its fully loaded en after 1 night ( 8 hours the phone is completely empty on standby !!! en the device is turned off because the battery is completely empty.
How can a phone eating the battery on standby ? doing nothing
sometimes when I locked the phone I see for 1 second a red underlined box but
its gone before I can read the message.
The redunderlined box seems to be identical to the box : cant get "connection" wich you can get when the phone has not a connection.
Please help !
6.5 has a better internet experience.
but the the wheater or stocks tab update sometimes get out of connection even the internet has sometime this problem.
The 6.5 sometimes freezes for 3-4 seconds when locking the phone.
But Overal I must say I want to keep the 6.5 I like it !!
NOW ONLY SOLVING THE BATTERY EATING !!
Has someone the solution or same problems ?
same problem here...
I might have an Idea about the problem
Before the TP II I had the Tytn II. I've updated that phone with manila, and that also drownes my battery. A while later I updated my RADIO, to an older version, and the problems were gone.
So my guess is here:
The standard Radio with the dutch TP2 WM6.1 ROM is not suitable for WM6.5 somehow it drowns the battery very fast.
question is: where to find a (good) ROM?

hi one thing to do flash a custom rom sergio cell pro 5.5 rom is good for battery speed stable or any of the ohter roms ngrz fusion shadowline ark try a few custom roms out and see what you like stock rom sucks remember to use hard spl and follow the steps theres a styki thread in rom section how to do this
grtz weesje
Yes ok but I do not want to use hardspell because I lose the garanty from my new phone.
besides that.
HTC is delivering an update for their own product. Don't they have an obligation to make sure that even the battery stays okay?
I don't want custom roms (though I appreciate the work done on Cust.Roms by the XDA users!) because of my guaranty!
but 12 hours with 1 battery is also NOT an option!
Don't know yet if my battery is suffering under WinMo 6.5, but what I do know is that 6.5 uses a lot more RAM than 6.1. You've already disabled pushinternet and here is what youi can do to release even more RAM:
" Trying to relase even more RAM, my search ended at pocketnow.com with an article regarding your cab and they also suggested to perform another registry tweak (via PPCGeeks) to release even more memory. The suggested reg tweak is: “go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\ResProxy” using a registry editor and change “ShareMemSize” to 0" (on my TP2 it says 391891).
After a soft reste my TP2 starts with 41% of RAM usage instead of 55%. That should save battery life.

Can i have the s/n of someone who has a WWE English phone?
I have a dutch version also..
But i dont want the phone in Dutch..
want to keep it english..
Thnx..
p.s. maybe also the solution to the battery drain?

Have you done a hard reset? My Tilt 2 will last almost 2 days in standby with my normal set of programs running, S2U2, cellid (uploads CID every N minutes if changed), aebattery, using Pocket Plus for today screen with Pocket Weather running inside it, etc.
If I enable FlexMail with 2 online IMAP mailboxes and 6 periodically synced boxes, it drops down to 19 hours or so.
Your situation is not normal.
hard reset who knows the buttons I must press ?
volume up - volume down en power button ?
something like that ?
there is another possibility to perform a hard reset (only works as long as you can access your phone):
go to settings - system - (and because your have a Dutch ROM) - go to the item "opslag wissen" (erase everything). This returns the phone to the factory settings, e.g hard reset. It will ask you to enter the password to perform that action: this is 1234.
Some of my battery data for you to compare with your own TP2:
I'm running stock WinMo 6.5.
battery data:
standby time: 22,5 hours
talking time: 3 mins
device usage: 2 hours
remaining battery: 72%
RAM usage: 43%
Hard reset did the job.
pressing green-red-power button and read the message.
pres only volume up and device resetting.
after that I had 30 hours batt life en stil 2 stripe on batt indicator
Oh backup your device before hard resetting !!
maybe I was to fast reacting before ...
I've recharged my battery again. Now, after 30 hours and 31 minutes, I still have 51% battery life left. (with 20% drowning last 3 hours...)
so there's hope!

No SPB here, but Settings -> System is where I looked, perhaps not in my ROM. No biggie.
Today i've noticed that my Desire uses avfully alot of power in standby;
since it was dead in the morning (while at ~60% when i went to sleep)
the drain @ standby is around 300mA...
So i figured maybe some app is preventing cpu into going to standby, so i've flashed my 3 days old backup, which was working normally at the time (no power drain) but for some reason the power drain stays the same today when i've flashed it.
I've disabled wifi, bluetooth, even put phone to flight mode, but drain is still high, which makes no sense , since its an old backup which was working fine at the time.
Anyway i have AMOLED Desire with Leedroid 2.3d and countts latest kernel.
Its really wierd why this suddenly started to happen.I just hope it isnt something with the hardware....
I've just tried the latest Oxygen rom and its the same thing... high power drain... ;(;(;(
Its really wierd...different roms and the same issue...
Now i've flashed back a fresh leedroid 2.3d and still no luck.I loose almos 30% battery per hour while phone suppost to be in standby!!
I've tried setcpu profiles and set 128Mhz when screen off, but power drain stays the same.
Could it be somekind of hardware damage, becouse i've tried many different roms and still its the sam thing ?
According to some app that monitors whan is using cpu, it says that system_server occupies all the cpu.But i cant find much about this....
Anyway if someone has an idea, i kinda like more than a 3h battery life a bit cooler phone (its quite warm when in "standby")
I've had this issue as well with CMY build #23 but it seems fine in build #24. Also, how do you check you mA output or what ever?
I have checked this with Battery Monitor Widget while having it run off the battery.
Isnt leedroid based off HTC stock rom ?
You could try flashing another kernel but I'm not sure if that would make a difference since it was running fine several days earlier.
tried flashing bunch of different kernels, same thing.
ill try another radio if it helps
If you open spare parts you can see if your phone enters standby and if its not you can see what app is stopping it.
HTC DESIRE CDMA Cyanogen 7
tried older radio... still power usage doesnt drop below 300 mA.
i really suspect that something is wrong with hardware...
only thing left is to unroot device and install stock rom.
will check...
where in spare parts should i check this ?
cant find anything related to standby...
although it seems that "android system"
is eating most of the processor.

Get Spare Parts > Battery History
Partial Wake usage - You need to check this from spare parts( more info on Partial Wake usage)
If it says "Android System" / Try it with the following changes
* Settings > Date & Time ( uncheck automatic)
* Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks ( uncheck - "Enable Always on mobile")
* As usual disable wifi/bluetooth etc., etc.,
If you use notification bar power control or Battery mod , it also consumes extra cpu usage
one more thing, get Watch Dog Lite from android to check if any app misbehave( consume more cpu)
You who have poor battery should test MIUI 1.1.28 really good battery life!!!!
Highly recommended! Lovely ROM also!
Went from one day to three days of battery life

Ill give miui a spin, but its not my battery's fauls since its fine, its the power drain thats the issue.
I've also noticed while putting phone to airplane mode, that in this case "Phone Idle"
uses the most battery. But battery drain is still 300+mA.Which is wierd since this suppost to use least power.
Have you tried deleting battery stats? I was getting abnormally high stand-by battery use after flashing to a different ROM from stock; after charging to 100% and deleting battery stats in recovery it really changed.
Then again this can apparently backfire and make the situation worse according to some :/
Ill try this...maybe it helps ...
I've reseted battery stats and flashed a fresh stock froyo (with htc utillity so im rootless now ) and hell power drain is the same !!!!
Guess it must be something with hardware or something...

Hi Cos:
Patience is all you need with the battery issue. If the kernel was written correctly for the phone, then the battery level will pick up and adjust. Any time I do a fresh install I have to wait for the phone to almost die before charging because battery level is always at 15% after install.
Wait for the phone to be about dead (look at "battery information" under Spare Parts. You will see the battery voltage listed in millivolts (shown as mV). As long as that voltage doesn't drop below 3500mV, you'll be fine. Once it does, charge it from that point on. It "should" pick up on the low and high battery voltages pretty well after this.
High volt reading is around 4150, lowest should be no less than 3500. If the battery never reaches 4150-4200, the battery is bad and should be replaced.
No problem here
My Kaiser "Android powered" last for 2 days - sometimes more.

Hi,
i have changed from stock to Revolution HD today, because the dialer of the stock rom (since the GB update) drains my battery up to 50%.
But the problem is not fixed with Rev HD. My Dialer is still the top 1.
Is it possible to fix this bug in the same way as the cyanogen rom has fixed it?
Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929054
And here the changeset:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,3904
Or is this option available in Rev HD?
Home Screen > Menu > Settings > Call Settings> Turn over silence
I could not find it in the specified settings.
I have no apps installed. It is a fresh image of Rev HD.
I have read the linked battery threads too, but i think it looks like the same problem as in the CM7 rom.
Many thanks.
Kase
edit: I am using it on the Desire HD
There's been some discussion around this and in my opinion (which means it could well be wrong) it's not an actual issue.
I don't experience any more battery drain when Dialler is listed than when it isn't, and the details for Dialler in the list typically show it as only being awake for a couple of seconds over a full day.
Personally I think either HTC (or google or whoever) have combined several system processes and listed them together as "Dialler" making it show higher up the list, or it's a bug in how they calculate battery use in Gingerbread.
It might well be that it's continually using the sensor as was presumed in cm7 but I would expect to see more evidence of reduced battery life that were the case.
As I say, I might be wrong
//sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk; all errors entirely intentional.
Hi hopscotchjunkie,
thx 4 your reply.
I am very sure that it really drains the battery. I have tested it a few times with the stock GB rom.
If i reboot my phone and never do a phone call, the dialer is not in the list. My battery time increases from 2 days to at least 3 days on low usage (only 3g on, but auto sync off). With Froyo, i always had up to 2.5 days (and no dialer problem).
Maybe you can test it too (i know it is hard to reach 2 or more days without phone call )?
I will install CM7 the next weeks (if i have some free time), and test the battery usage with this rom. But comparing 2 completely different roms is very inaccurate i think. But i will give it a try anyway.
I know whilst the problem may sound related but just to be on the safe side of things, ensure that you have the recommended Radio and the compatible RIL installed on the phone. The Radio and the RIL will vary depending on the ROM that you use, and as far as I know both AR and CM7 all have listed their recommended Radio. The RIL you will have to match depending on the version of the Radio. Both Radio and RIL library is avaliable in this forum.
As others have mentioned possible bug, once the phone has been fully charged, go into CWM and clear the Battery Statistics. This will allow a sort of "restart" for the battery life articulation.
I am using CM7 (with custom kernel) and generally speaking, from what you have described, I havent had such issues before with either ROMs, although the last AR I used was prior to the 2.3 releases but have since been with CM7, noticably higher benchmarks, possibly better battery life, but definitely free up more RAM, which I suppose = better battery life?

Or is this option available in Rev HD?
Home Screen > Menu > Settings > Call Settings> Turn over silence
I could not find it in the specified settings.
Kase
edit: I am using it on the Desire HD

Its listed under Settings > Sound > Incoming Calls. (Gingerbread)
Disable all the three, worked for me! - Im getting about 3 mA in standby = 2 % Usage over night.
BTW: I`m running a DHD with Revolution HD 5.1.9 (No-sense++) with the ADW Launcher EX - Recommended!
I'm running ARHD 5.1.9 with nosense++ and launcher pro Plus and i don't experience the problem.
Edit: I don't have the three options disabled.

Wow, you battery is a beast if it can last up to three days, no matter how little you use the device. Back to the topic, it may be worth backing up your settings and try a factory reset, although you probably did in first place when you installed Revo HD. You may want to look at uninstalling Sense dialer and get a replacement and see how it goes. There are a few good ones out there.
I hope it helps.
Hi all, thanks for your replies!!!
I have done some tests now with the AR 5.19 ROM.
If i reboot my device and do not start the dialer, the phone drains my battery 15% in 10 hours. No usage, only 3g on with whatsapp and icq, but no messages written at all. I have tested it many times with different battery charge levels, its always about 15%.
=> Battery usage: 50% phone standby, 50% phone inactive (i dont know the exact english words).
If i reboot my phone, start the dialer, but still no usage, same conditions, the phone drains the battery about 30% in 10 hours. Also tested many times with different battery charge levels.
=> Battery usage: 50% dialer, 25% phone standy, 25% phone inactive.
With the dialer, my battery is <10% after 2 days of low usage. If i reboot the phone and never start it, my battery is ~40% after 2 days, same usage.
I am very sure, the dialer drains the battery with the exact amount displayed in the battery stats. It matches 100% for me.
@0semaj0: I use the recommend RIL and Radio for AR 5.1.9, i have done a full wipe before and cleared my battery stats.
@HeiDuDer: I also tested this, deactivating the 3 options you have described does not change anything, the dialer is still in my battery stats after i used it at least once. Even after reboot.
@fdelosriossanchez: I will give it a try. If i use the nosense script, do i have the stock dialer??? Maybe i will test AR 5.1.9 with nosense.
I will post an update in a few days. Thanks to all!

Bumping this with my own observations, deactivating the 3 options doesen't have an effect on the battery life, and the battery drains far faster after a reboot if I make a single phonecall to start the proximity sensor polling bug
