Serious Jasjar battery life issues.... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi all,
I've just spent a good amount of time browsing these forums - lots of good info here!
I've got my hands on a free i-mate jasjar from work as it is having battery issues and they just upgraded the user.
The issue is that it drains the battery in about 3-4 hours - thats with no sim in, phone / wireless / bluetooth turned off, very minimal use. We got a new battery for it in case that was the issue but it still loses it...
The other ones we have at work get at least a day / day and a half depending on usage.
I've reflashed it to the latest i-mate firmware (1.30.76 WWE) but stilll no luck....
Aside from sending it off for an expert to look at - does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to diagnose / fix the problem?
Cheers
Sam

disable activesync checks
in wm5 activesync checks every 10 minutes or so for new data even if you do not have a server installed.... so.... here are the steps.....
with the device disconnected from the computer !
1. click "start"
2. click "programs"
3. click "activesync"
4. right soft button "menu"
5. click "add server to source"
6. fill in "1" in every field clicking "next" as you go through the proccess! (or any other fake data you want)
when you get to choosing what to sync, uncheck everything and click "finish"
7. right soft button "menu" again, now you'll have "schedule" lit
8. click "schedule"
9. change both drop down menus to "manually" and uncheck s"end outgoing items immediately"
10. click "ok"
11. right soft button "menu" again
12. click "options"
13. select the "exchange server", click "delete" and "yes"
14. click "ok"
YOUR DONE !
the device should last a lot longer !
have fun !
p.s.
don't forget to disable IR so the device won't try syncing with the sun ....

Great - I've set it up and will test it out over today - thanks for the reply

Make sure your infra red is also off, receive all beams is unticked.
Presumably you're not using any over clocking software? They disable the idle mode detection so make the battery less efficient, even at slow clocked speeds.
V

Infrared is off, currently its got fresh firmware as off yesterday, charged overnight - no sim, every conceivable option turned off, no extra s/w installed.
Since 9am its now down to 85% - roughly using 10% per hour with zero use....

I have the Same Issue ,the battey use very fast .
at the first I think may be is the net lock make that, But yesterday ,I try to use the unlock tools ,but same as it.
the charge complete. close all function ,can't use more than 8 hour's.

I've the same issue,...change a batery with a new one, BUT when it goes les than 70% all the problem start, loose the phone signal, shot down....I've a official Qtek 9000 ROM of febr. '06

I think That's the Radio or Hard device error.
If other Rom have not This issue. I think that's this rom make it .

There are a number of threads regarding batteries and new ROM versions and I think the concensus is that its the battery and it is just coincidence about the new ROM.
I have had my device for about 8 months and it has behaved well until a few weeks ago when it started to shut-down at 70-80% battery. The shutdown only occured when I had a heavy drain on the device e.g. when using GPRS or phone and I started to think that the battery was dying and the heavy current drawn by the radio caused the battery voltage to drop below a sustainable threshold for powering the device - hence the shutdown. £20 later I have a new battery (from eBay) and can go 1-2 days without charging. I am leaving the old battery on charge for several days to see if it can be salvaged

Thank you help, But I return to the old version ROM. the batteries is OK. I don't know how to explain them

Try measuring the power consumption with acbPowerMeter and post your results so that we can see your device indeed has problems or not. See my related articles for more info (cross-posted to the General forum in here).

My Universal power consumption
With BT on and Wifi off power is at 642 mA...
Is it bad or good?

What that's mean?

it means that the device has bt turned of, and also wifi turned of and acbmeter indicates a power consumption of 642

I also seem to have started incurring a problem with battery, it is shutting down the device at 50%, and yes there was a slight draing GPRS and Push Email running, and trying to make a phone call.
It only really happened today, and am at a loss as to the cause. I would guess, the battery is 1 year old and probably needs replacing.
i have been using two different 3.2 roms ltcmdr, then jw's for a while now and no problems until today.
I suspect its the age of the battery. I am in the process of trying to suck the battery down as far as I can, then recharge it.
It appears to do a complete shutdown every 2% from 50% to 40%, I am now trying to get it to less than 40%.

My original battery lasted me for about 8 months when I started experiencing the shutdown / hanging problem whenever the charge would drop to 35%. I replaced the battery with a new original battery and all went okay. Unfortunately my second battery is only 5 months old and I have started experiencing the same problem again although this time the problem is occurring at a charge level of 15%. When the battery reaches this level and I try to connect GPRs or make or receive a call the unit hangs. If I try to soft reset I cannot do so till I connect the external charger.
I think such a low battery life is simply unacceptable.
Regards

Ever wonder how a battery tells the system that it is full and to stop charging?
If you get a new battery, take the old one down to somewhere below 100% -then install a new ROM and see what the battery meter reads after the hard reset.
The system must recognize a point which would be monitored and recognized as "full battery". When installing new ROM's, the system takes the battery power at the time of the install as 100%. This is why it is reiterated in almost all ROM upgrade instructions:
"Your device battery must be fully charged before installing this ROM".
However, I'm not so keen as to have a fix; but I've noticed that when the battery is fully charged and the device is then unplugged, turned on and then off, then plugged back in...it seems to charge alot longer than what I would expect necessary to reach 100% once again.

Win $5 today!

Hello EveryOne,
I have Imate PDA2K and any one who is going to solve my following two issues i will pay him $5 as a gift from me by PayPal.
The problems are:
1. When ever i remove the battery of my phone to change the sim card the time and date changes to the default time and date something like the manufature date. I try to upgrade the rom to wm5, then wm6 but nothing help. Even the backup battery is showing 100% full all the time.
2. When ever i try to call i press the answer button but the call don't connects. Some times connects and some time i have to try hundreds of time to connect my call. Same thing is for the recieving the call. Some time it connects and sometimes it hangs during answering the call.
I will really pay $5 who will help me to sort out these problems. I buy this device as pre-owned device that's why not able to get help at clubimate.com and hence plan to get help here and pay a part of pre-owned fee to someone here.
Thank you,
1.) it's a backup battery problem, change the backup battery.
eventhough it says 100% doesnt mean it's not failing.
the backup battery is charging from your main battery.
it may show 100% but easy recharged when you put the main battery.
if it is easily recharged... it will easily discharge... hence, flat batt.
2.) i dont know this but it maybe related to main battery failing to give power to the phone module. i had a BA with no service /and/ talks disconnection once but when i changed to a new battery it was gone.

Thanx for your response...
1. Can backup battery easily changable i mean is it like a big battery like we have in our pc motherboards or a special service center have to change it?
2. Let me change the baterry today and see what happens.
no prob... just add your reward to your battery procurement.
and i hope that works...
What else may be?

I have changed the battery today and it done the same call answering problem just one time in over 20 calls before this ratio was 99% of 100% times.
What else may be creating this problem of hanging mobile during recieving the call. And also please tell me which rom of wm6 is best you think i will use?
install 2003se rom back, if u hv 2005.
try xplode's latest cook. it's in the WM6 thread of BA
The rom does not matter (well mine is a lil quicker than others but)
1. Simple SIM change procedure - press power, wait 10-20 sec. , then remove the battery and change the sim. after powering on hit reset once (or you will get no radio) - this way the date will not reset
2. Phone LAG - this problem occures when a lot of memory and cpu power is used for the OS, then the phone starts to lag. Here is a simple tweak which will speed up the phone app - press Start => Settings => Sounds & Notifications , remove the check for Events (warnings, system events)
there are a lot of tweaks which will speed up overall performance of the phone, but you need to search the forums for them
And remember, the phone app is the same for all WM5/6 devices so the tweaks are the same, you can look in other devices forums for tweaks
Thnx Every One!
Hello,
Thank you every one for your replies.
I changed the battery and currently checking it to make sure the problems got solve out.

Battery life and radio and rom version

hey guys plz post ur battery status here along with the radio version you hav on ur phone
this wud be of great help for future reference for all of us and to select the best Radio version
Plz charge the battery to full and use it upto the limit
lets see which Radio and Rom drains the minimum battery juice!!
Smartphone battery life is obviously the prime factor in buying a Smartphone
Thank you guys
plz join in and help all
plz update guys
it wud really go a long way in helping all
atleast post ur recent usage stats
standby 22hours
talktime 1hour
internet 30mins
now battery is at 23pc
my rom is the official htc 6.5
That will depend on the usage and can be different as some radios work better with some mobile providers
The best way is to test several combinations ROM/radio till you get the best.
I´m using latest Energy Photon 6.5.1 with radio 4.46 and my battery lasts me 36hr aprox. with a lot of usage, customization, calls, wifi, bt.

ok, how in the world are u getting such good battery life...ive got the same rom loaded and ive sent about 20 text messages and its already down to 75%....also, it appears as tho my data connection keeps turning back on by itself and i KNOW for a fact that there is nothing auto updating that would cause it to turn back on

my data connection keeps turning on and off as well. it's annoying. i've turned everything off but it still keeps coming on 3 min after i turn it off
I'd be interested in doing some kind of standardized comparison also. I read posts where some people get great battery life, some people get terrible battery life (I'm in this category), how some people's battery life improve after a few recharge cycles, etc. At this point it's hard to tell whether some people have faulty batteries, some people use their phone more than others, or some ROMs just consume more battery than others. To do a comparison, we'd had to have some kind of agreed upon methodology and here's my proposal:
1) Install acbpowermeter. Just assume that it works the way it's supposed to. Even if it doesn't, since everyone uses it, the methodology is the same so that results can be compared.
2) Whatever ROM/Radio you have, just report it.
3) With phone plugged in, soft rest your phone and wait 5 minutes for everything to get loaded.
4) Turn off the backlight, and run acbpowermeter. It will start measuring power consumption.
5) Turn off the phone right away and after 5 minutes, turn on the phone and pause acbpowermeter.
6) Report your average power consumption and total power consumption, as given by acbpowermeter.
This will give us an indication of how a ROM/radio performs with no activity. This assumes you have no other programs installed/active that contributes to power consumption, but even if you do, I don't think the results would be that far off. I'm curious to see what the idle power consumption is. You might want to run this a few times to get some consistent results before reporting. Also report if you get some spikes in the graph or if power consumption is stable during the 5 minutes. My initial results are an average of about 90mA and 6mAh during 5 minutes. One big spike up to about 360mA at the beginning. This would mean about 72mA per hour or about 21 hours for a 1500mA battery. This is close to my experience of going from 100% to 80% when I wake up in the morning (5 hours of sleep). Terrible. I might just have a bad battery....
EneryROM 11/8 23504. 4.47 Radio.
If anyone else has some suggestions on how we can compare battery consumption, do share, as I think this would be useful information to have.

battery drain / downgrade but keep hardspl

hello,
i used original WM6.0 ROM until 2 weeks ago. my battery kept 3 days back then (only 2G, no WLAN, no 3G).
now i upgraded to the actual 6.5.x ROMs (23xxx and 28xxx quePPC and TAI).
the battery drains extremely.
i recharged 100% - left the phone unused for 7h - and have only 80% left. That's way to much - for a unused phone.
My question is:
- what ROM can you recommend, that saves battery life almost as good as the original 6.0 ?
- i still have the original 6.0 ROM Upgrade-Setup-Exe.
Wow can i downgrade to original ROM - only the WM, i want to keep
the installed HardSPL - and want to keep the installed RadioRom.
My technical data:
- herm100
- radio 1.47.00.00 ( i never used another one!)
- all "DisablePowerManagement"-Registry Settings are = 0
- Beam is off
- background light is lowest level
- 3G is off
Adjust your background lighting. Take it from full brightness to about half and your battery life will increase alot. Also adjust how long before the screen turns itself off. This helps a lot also. All this can be done in settings.
I recomend you... WM6.0 or feed back your questions on the right thread please Three days? WOW i always need to recharge my hermes everyday and i tho it was normal... jijijiji
Yes you can downgrade to WM6.0 again and the Hardspl remains
LOL! I charge my phone nightly also. I never even got 3 days of battery on my wizard. Heck my wife doesn't get 3 days on her sidekick!
@queppc: what exactly do i have to do to flash back to original rom - to keep hardspl (i have the original setup package) .
i need to change Romupdateutility.exe somehow - or take of the bootloader of the setup-package - don't i ?
@addicus/all: yes, 3 days is possible. and about the wizard. my wife has a wizard. she charged it last monday - then yesterday (friday).
that's even 4 days! - but i have to admit, she hardly uses it. only once a day email check (via WLAN), 1-2 SMS - that's it.
(by the way: i already turned my backlight to lowest level)
ok - I use my phone constantly - phone calls, internet browsing, texting, picture viewing. I'm a freaking junkie. I get a day out of mine (with extended battery) and make sure I charge while driving because bluetooth headset and speaking drain the battery a lot!
Not to mention using Tomtom......
hello,
i didn't downgrade to 6.0 yet (since i still don't know what's exactyl to do - to downgrade, but keep hardspl?)
but it looks like my problem is gone:
all i changed is
- i reformated my SDHC card (i assume this is not the reason)
- i changed my band settings to GSM / GSM 900+1800 + UMTS 2100
-> before i only switched of 3g with the wireless manager - i thought it's the same, but maybe not.
both changes does not really sound like the solution to my battery problem - but it is.
now i have good battery life again! ok, my PDA has never 100%, after taking it of the charger it immediately goes to 97%. then in the beginning it drains a litte faster - it does not take long to around 86% or even 81%.
But then the battery indicator decreases very, very slow.
maybe that battery-indicator with single 1% steps is not that accurate (?)
now my hermes battery drain is ok again. it rests for more than 2 days - depends on usage of course.
i assume if i don't use it it rests for 3 days (i never had the chance to not use it for 3 days ;-)
AFTER THIS - i also did another update. i use TAI V4 now (28205 build). battery life is still ok.
I recharge my phone every night and it is enough for using one day, BUT if I am listening audio book via Bluetooth the battery is empty in two - three hours!
Most of wm6.5 roms have the infrared beam automatically turned on. It drains battery! If it doesn't appear on comm. manager you have to do this:
Open "Advanced Config", then click Menu -> More Settings -> Comm Manager. There select Beam. If you want to choose among more than 6 comm you have to choose on the top Button style: Default
Then soft reset
When turned on again, go to connections and check if Beam is turned on or off.

Great information right there. Also to the OP - if you want a WM 6.0 rom and keep HardSpl - just flash the rom. That's what you're doing when you flash the base AT&T rom before flashing a custom rom anyways. If I were you I'd go no lower than 6.1 though. In fact, you may want to try one of CRC's roms as they are very stable.

battery issue

hi guys,
i just checked out my ARTE160 battery. when i checked out the output voltage, i found that its 3.95~4.2 v when full charged. i jus checked this out with a multi meter. the battery is designed for 3.7v only, so does this mean there is a prob???
thx guys
I'm not a pro, but I think this means that everything is alright with the battery. I would rather worry if the voltage was below 3,7 V - that would definitely mean a problem.
well i find wat u say is logical but still im having some small prob in my phone.....
it keeps working well and suddenly the phone service alone wont work and gets hanged (means no calls and sms) after couple of mins mobile just researches the network and joins.
the prob is when this thing happens and someone calls me the call is ringing but i dont get any ring or alert in my mobile.......
also sms is not delivered kater but is lost completely......
i jus looked out somewhere that these probs may be due to battery........

I've just chcecked the output voltage of my battery - when 45% charged - the voltage was 3.82 V.
in my opinion, your problem has nothing to do with the battery. I had same problem that you described - I switched to WM6 from WM5 - it did the trick.
now it hangs very seldom.
I guess that would help you (at least if you're using WM5).
oh but im using 6.1 at present
its TOM'S ROM.....

*for battery issue;
buy a new battery and
charge <----- device must be off!...
when green led light shows, its done..
this should sort your battery issue..
* for issue with - ''suddenly the phone service alone wont work and gets hanged..''
try a hard reset, if it still happens, open the device - open through the back of the device and simply give it a clean, ensure all connections are connecting, in other words, scratch the pins inside device if they need it.. assemble correctly and hope this helps..
-use cotton buds, the ones you use to clean your ears with..
-use a pin/needle to scratch connections..
*sounds like a hardware issue, not rom issue so cleaning inside the device is recommended..
*I've fixed my p3300 plenty of times now by just simply cleaning inside it.
- including the ''not charging'' and ''no sim'' issue people have experienced..

HI Geeks, I have a problem with my blackstone battery. It is getting charged only up to 50 to 55 percent. I kept on charger for one ful night. But no use. I am using official ROM. Can you suggest any solution for that?
Help PLZ
I tired both the charger and the USB cable. Still the problem remains.
A new problem
Now i am facing a new problem. When i switch off the Touch HD, it will not start. When i press the power button, it shows "Smart Mobility" then it will go off. I tried once and pressed the power button again. It lasted some more time, reaching to the HTC logo screen.
Then I Connect the phone using the usb cable to the desktop and press the power button. WOW. it started without any problem. Can you help me to get around this problem?

Why is batterylife worse on Froyo?

I'm getting 4-5x idle consumption on latest JPA. Hope this is still not final..
I see that next version of Android is already trying to discredit previous one. Don't be afraid, gingerbread, we will update to you anyway =))
On a more serious role - I see approximately the same battery.
Re-calibrate your battery.
A bit worse on my end on IDLE, but same on usage, close to 8hrs of battery life watching a 720p movie.

Whats a good method of recalibrating it aside from deleting the battery stats..
Speaking of battery stats, a lot of people misunderstand this as the file that keeps the current charge of the battery.
my standby time of the battery is great. No drop in battery after a full nite of sleep.
however, surfing net on data really eats a lot, 1% every 2 or 3 times.. really fast

Maybe you just can't understand well the charts.
for example: Music Player 25%, it doesn't mean music player consumed 25% battery; This means that when music player was worked, then battery consumed was 25% - what did consume it? - The music player + display + some refresh + etc...
Yeah, I know a little bit strange logic for "Windows taskmanager" browser kids; but this technic is general in mobil IT (maybe Google should hide this feat, bcoz lot of users are confused; and ask again and again and again and again and again...)

Yeah, I know a little bit strange logic for "Windows taskmanager" browser kids; but this technic is general in mobil IT (maybe Google should hide this feat, bcoz lot of users are confused; and ask again and again and again and again and again...)

I dont even think he is basing it on the battery chart usage, I dont think anyone does.. we are just looking at the battery indicator. If we idle for 8hrs we epxect no more than 2% battery drop.
I get 20% battery drop in froyo for 8 hours during the night without even switching the phone screen on once!
Maybe because of all of the services I have?
I have the following real time services:
1. google stuff
2. exchange (touchdown)
3. Tango
4. whatsapp
5. Chrome to phone
6. SMS Backup+ (backs up SMSs as soon as they arrive)
In addition to that, I have two email addresses configured in the stock email app with 1 hours pull time, and in "accounts and sync" I have facebook and twitter put as sync once a day.
I have a bluetooth headset connected all the time and receiving calls though it, I make and receive almost 1 hour of call, probably 5 SMSs, WiFi is on all the time, and the display is set to auto.
It is also worth mentioning that I have the JPA, OCLF and the 341MB ram kernel (250Hz) with the enhanced GT TWLauncher, no live wall paper, no auto syncing widgets.
My battery lasts almost 8 hours until it is flat, in which I have another charger at work, that a good 2 hours charge keeps me going until sleep time, where it is flat again, and then I put it to charge all night long.
If anyone is having my same configuration and settings, please share your experience.
Oh, I have disabled the haptic feedback completely and the clicking sounds universally also.

This. Tango is broken, it keeps your phone awake, even when the screen turns off. Uninstall Tago and you're good.

You are a lucky guy,
The first day I used my phone, I got a drop of 15% per hour of continuous use.

Whats a good method of recalibrating it aside from deleting the battery stats..
Speaking of battery stats, a lot of people misunderstand this as the file that keeps the current charge of the battery.

Charge the battery FULLY, & start discharging it, when it comes down to 5% or something, go delete the battery.bin (search the forums) or some such file. You need root. The restart, Viola, your battery is indicating the exact charge.

May I ask where did you get this information?
AFAIK, phone usage timer "in battery stat" is not increasing while the phone screen is off, indicating that phone is not operational.

I dunno what tango exactly does but i can only confirm this: tango kills the battery in no time. even the newest version claimed to be "fixed for sgs", it still eats 5% an hour in standby just by adding tango.
besides, tango doesnt work very good anyway.

I've read about that by deleting the batterystats bin file, Im still looking for a solid explanation on whats exactly in that file, from my own understanding its just a battery usage history.

how are you using your phone ?
I see a lot of these threads talking about battery.
But bottom line is - How do you use your phone.
You have to compare apples withe apples.
Only 1 person in this thread described how he / she is using the phone.
Thats something you can compare with
I usually have mine running for 8-10 hours and have to charge. (almost empty then)
But im a heavy user.
Blutooth headset - Wifi - Sometimes GPS.
Aways on fastest netvork.
Exchange and Google mail, facebook and twitter.
Everything consumes battery.
BUT having said this -
I was on a vacation in France, and stopped every service, as im from another country and did not want to pay expensive roming prizes.
The phone now lasted 2-3 days on 1 charge, and this was all new for me
You get the drift
Forget about this battery charge discharge / charge delete stats thingy.
It will absolutely not give you longer battery run time.
Maybe the battery indicator will be slightly different, thats all.
Not worth the effort.
Hope this helps you

I think I found this over on the Desire forums but these steps have helped me immensely. I did these steps just last night, and I unplugged my phone at 12am and now at 9am it's at 90%, with 3G turned on with syncing once an hour.
With your phone on, charge it to 100%. Once it reports it is full, disconnect the phone and turn it off. Plug it in again, charge it until it says it is full (1 minute or so). Then disconnect again, turn it back on, and plug it in again. Charge it until it's full. Disconnect.
I find that after I do that, the battery life improves IMMENSELY for at least a couple days, or until my next flash (still testing).

If you checked what you posted you can see Im all over that thread, bottom line is that doesnt work for me what works is I just charge to full while the unit is off. Thats how I calibrate it and it always works on my end.

Hi, I also have a question regarding recalibration. I have the OCLF v2 installed and find / -name battery<somethingwhatever>.bin shows me 3 files batterystats.bin (I'm pretty shure this is because of the oneclick lagfix). Do I have to delete all 3 files or is it only necessary to delete the "real" one?
