You apply themes as you would install a ROM: name the theme "update.zip" and apply it in recovery mode.

oohhh thanks and uh how do i remove the theme?

oh nvm i found out that i cant uninstall but im gonna have to wipe and rerom the phone. hmm but if i nandroid backup it can't i just restore?

yes you can restore, assuming you did the backup before applying the theme

I'm going to go ahead and close this now since the question was answered and this thread hasn't been updated in several months.

If you have clock work 3.x check if the zips you are flashing are converted to edify scripts. Or since I think truly epic is edify anyways, you're probably not on clockwork 3.x. look for dameons posts on installing the clockwork mod 3

I don't believe syndicate even has a EXT4 (Clockworkmod3 compatible) ROM, so you must be trying to flash RFS only ROM's from the sound of it.
Make sure the ROM you flash says EXT4, not RFS.
EDIT: Checked Truly Epic ROM out and it looks like it should work fine with Clockwork 3.0.0.5.
When you say it doesn't work, what do you mean exactly? Whats it do?

Where do i start with this device????

Iv'e come across the samsung epic 4g, I HAVE NO IDEA on where to start with rooting it or recovery's or anything of it's nature, I come from the land of the HTC EVO so everything pertaining to the Epic 4G is like alien language to me, So basically can someone point me to a noob guide or something like that lol? thank in advance.
Under our Android Development, you should find everything you need stickied.
You'll want:
Odin and if I were you, I'd start of with an EC05 Stock Rom, odexed, RFS, but with root, cwm 3.1, and that sort of goody.
Once flashed, you'll want to nandroid backup, and then start seeing what you want, and how you'll go about achieving that.
Stickied at the top of this forum. 67 videos by qbking77 tells all including needed links.

then DO A BACKUP!!!!
basically everything you do on this phone is through clockworkmod. forget about rom manager. after you do a backup and you want to flash a new rom, you'll want to do full wipe 3x every time you want to flash a rom.
the links and instructions and the "what is that?" for odin as well as rooting instructions are in the first link... the second link will upgrade you to our current CWM (purple)
Edit: I would stick to EC05 stuff at first... it's our current stable 2.2 build. all of our 2.3 stuff is leaks and most of them behave naughty. So my advice is definitely stick to EC05 until you find your footing

Wow. You must live under a rock...LOL. Or don't read threads before you post. Gingerbread man! Gingerbread! If you want it then you need to be completely stock. You could also flash a custom GB ROM.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If you were running syndicate and you let the ota update run, then you lost your root. Your running "stock" gingerbread now. No more clockwork mod. You have to re-root your phone by flashing the cwm 3.0.0.1 tar with the phone in download mode. Then flash a different kernel first. There's a couple on here to chose from and they are both wonderful. and then you can install an EI22 rom of your choice.

If you want the OTA then Odin back to complete stock from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Otherwise if you are on the EC05 modem you can update your modem from here:

And then flash any EI22 ROM that strikes your fancy.

Do you mean stock? As in the way it was when you first bought it?
---------- Post added at 11:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:42 AM ----------
Well if you did want it bone stock again but with ROOT then I have a link that takes you to Zedomax's website where he has a download that includes root: http://epic4gtouchroot.com/epic-4g-touch-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-epic-4g-touch-newsph-d710/
To do it just follow the instructions and it will remove everything off of the phone and return it to stock W/root. To remove root just download ES file manager from the "Play Store", I hate that name, and then find the superuser.apk and remove it.
He says how to do this on his website. That's actually how I got into flashing and rooting and all this nonsense. ^^b
Make sure you put you phone into download mode before you connect your phone and also make sure you have KIES with the drivers installed on your computer.
I flashed a ics ROM and did not like it so I restored a android backup of the blazer 4.0 ROM.
As much as I am confused by the OP, anyone else think it's wierd that someone would link to some other site for getting back to stock on XDA? What with all the resources available right here?

Hate to say it Paden, but your posts have not been very clear.
When posting here, it's very important to be very detailed about what rom you're on, what you flashed, in what order, and any symptoms or problems you are having.
If I've got it correctly...
You flashed some ICS rom, didn't like it, then flashed back to Blazer's?
And things are working?
You didn't do a complete stock restore first?
What recovery was built into the ICS rom?
What kind of wiping did you do before flashing?
And why are you looking for another ics ROM to flash to?...
Sent from my calculator watch.
very cool

How do you do that
I was going to post a thread asking a similar question. I've been running blazer for a while, and eventually I downloaded the Goodness and ran with it for a week. It was nice and all but for the moment I still prefer GB...however, my nandroid backup didn't work, it told me I had an MD5 mistmatch. So I just went into the ICS recovery and reflashed Blazer no problem. It's been perfect since. Afterwards I was reading the thread on how to not brick your phone, and it said to do exactly the opposite of that. Does that make me the luckiest man in the world? or am I missing something. Would it be okay to try it again?

It's all luck, the current ICS recovery is very iffy on flashing and even wiping data is bricking some devices, if you want to continue using your phone I suggest making a nandroid backup before you flash ICS then flash ICS, and if you wish to go back to GB then ODIN to EL29 and install clockwork mod and restore nandroid, or it won't be long before you have some fancy paperweight.
MultiLockOn said:

Make sure u do a nandroid back up using the gb recovery before u try these steps...... Simple lets saY u are on blazers 4.0 rom n u have a zip of a ics rom put it on your sdcard go into recovery n do a full wipe i use calkins full wipe then i flash the ics rom keep in mind that after you flash the ics rom you will lose your gb recovery n you will have a ics recovery n if you don't like the ics rom u can go to the ics recovery n restore ur nandroid backup make sure to do a full wipe before restoring your backup n when you finish your restore you will have your gb rom n ur gb recovery... Ive done this like a million times n never had a problem BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK... ONE MORE THING I NEVER FLASH ANY ROM USING A ICS RECOVERY

As long a your just restoring a backup from ics recovery you're fine, it may be a problem when flashing roms from it that results to bricking. So if i read right from your beginning post all you did was just restore so you're fine.

I'm still on Froyo - upgrade to Gingerbread help please

I searched through the forums here and didn't find anything helpful. Probably because it has been a long time since 2.3 came out.
I have a stock Froyo Evo 4G (rooted). I would like to move up to 2.3.x
I find many sites online with instructions on doing it, and downloads, but I don't trust any of them. I only really trust what I read here at XDA.
That being said, can someone point me to instructions to do the update?
Also...what will I lose from the phone?
How do I re-root afterward?
When I use the phone to look for the system update it finds nothing, so I need a link to download the file(s) necessary.
Thanks in advance, I know I'm way behind the curve but my job just started using Office 365 with Lync, and it doesn't support 2.2.
Just flash a gingerbread ROM. Here's a link to an almost totally stock sprint rooted ROM. this thread may also have a truly stock sprint ROM.

Do NOT take an OTA update if you are rooted. Every single guide for rooting tells you this.
That being said, if you want to stay stock, fine the stock rooted GB rom in the stickies in the Dev section. Make a nandroid backup in recovery, then wipe everything, then flash. You will not lose root as long as you flash a rooted rom.

your don't need to unroot or anything. Backup whatever stuff you wanna keep with Ti Backup or mybackup root. Wipe caches and data and flash ROM.
I think you may wanna update radios, too. Update to at least the 11.19 radio. All radios are available in Calkulins thread in dev section. I would say update radio first, but maybe someone else can chime in on if that really matters.
But, you don't need to unroot, reroot, blah blah blah. Just flash updated ROM. When updating radio, do NOT interrupt the flash. It's about the only thing that can truly brick your phone.
from my 2yr old ICS Evo
Also, the thread I linked may be the slightly modified stock ROM. If so , brad has another thread in the dev section that is for absolutely stock rooted GB ROM.

To save your text messages you can find SMS backup/restore in the market. Some use myBackup root for this, but I'm not familiar with it and can't advise.

Bro here's the best advice I can give you I'm gonna give you two roms that I stand by as the most stable
First of all if you still want sense on the evo and want 2.3 download mikg rom v3 go to themikmik.com and go to the evo section and there will be a lthread that says update 3.11 its in v3.xx forum. There will be a download link and download the one that's not the update version after that follow normal flashing rom procedure.
Now if you want pure gingerbread then I would go to cyanogenmod.com and go to evo and go to stable release and click on the newest one download and flash there are tons of helpful forums on flashing roms if anything reply and ill walk you through... Enjoy bro
