hi sorry if this has been posted millions of times but does anyone know if there is a fast wm6.5 becuase when ever if use them they r about 18mb for programs and that realy slowws it down so if u know of a rom that runs about 25mb when ur actually using it not what the post says anything better would be amazing thx sorry if this has already been posted
If you want really stable ROMs: 218xx builds (where the Start button is at the top)
Or try the newest Moonspell ROMs, they're more finger-friendly and you can choose different versions (with Manila, Titanium or Lite).
thx i tried nearly all of the moonspel and they are really good but have alot of lag
so buy a new device that has more ram and rom... or use 6.1
or write feedback to know wich problems it has maybe this will be closed many people can comes and see ... mmm so moonspell roms has lags...
maybe trying newer devices with newer OS gives you a new dimension of why does hermes has lag with 6.5
cheers
What did you expect? The Hermes is 3 years old, was the flagship that led to a lot of the newer phones and is insufficient in the RAM department. It works pretty well for its age...

I agree, The Hermes is a great device and it's easy to try everything to get it work. Only RAM (a big problem for me). I have so many good apps but i can't put it in rom because the RAM is not too much for all apps. It make me many time headache during cooking roms.
The new build wm6.5 doesn't work really good with old apps, i expert to buy new one or except the ROMs how it offer you in the Hermes development.
roms
Let me ask a couple of dumb questions.
What are Titanium roms?
What are manila2d roms?
Everyone talks about memory. Does having flash memory make any difference?
Can added titanium plugins be run from the flash memory?
XDA Shutdown. What is it?
How do you install a theme, like one of the 6.5 titanium themes?
Is there any way to turn the phones GSM off and use the wifi by itself? I don't have a data pkg with my carrier.
Titanium and Manila are basically today screen plugins. Go to Settings>Home>Items, you'll see some plugins there (Titanium is Windows Default, Manila is TouchFlo2D). The difference to the "old" owner/calendar/tasks plugins is that they are more finger-friendly.
For the other questions, just read a bit in the forums .
thanks
Yes, I've been reading...thousands of posts going back 3 years. I thought I would cut to the chase and ask a direct question.
What you think was the right thing to tell me about Titanium, meant Jack to me. I do know that some roms have Titanium and some don't. There is a whole page of wm6.5 titanium skins, but at this point, I still don't know what Titanium is. You say go to Settings..Home..Items. I'm using one of the roms from mr moonspell. His wm7 project rom. When I go to Settings..Home...Items, I see "Windows default", "Date", "wireless","Owner info". That's not telling me what titanium is.
I need a definition. I see roms with a scrolling, vertical line of words like
Text
Accessories
Connections
Multimedia
etc
Is that Titanium?
On Pays 6.1 Rom, its different. There is no vertical line of words.
I'm asking the question. What makes that rom structure different from mine? Or what is the name of it?
When I do a search for "XDA shutdown", I get 100s of posts, none telling me what it is. I guess I'll just wait til someone else has the time to answer the other questions. But thanks for answering one of them.
When I search for XDA Shutdown, I get this .
Try to disable all items, tap on OK and go to your Home Screen. You only see your wallpaper. Now enable Windows Default, and you'll see what Titanium is once you go to the home screen. The same for Manila, it's just another kind of interface. Some ROMs have those cooked in, while others don't.
That scrolling line is your Start Menu, in normal 6.5 ROMs it has a hexagon structure but some people have customized it to display as a list.
ok
Okay, I understand what you mean now. The honeycomb structure. That's what you're referring to.
I read the XDA shutdown, but don't quite understand. On my phone, I have an icon and it says XDA shutdown. Is this
just another way to shut the phone down? Pressing XDA Shutdown, instead of the power button?
Well, XDA Shutdown offers more features - turn off, soft-reset and shut down (like taking out the battery).
And do you now understand what Titanium is? The honeycomb structure is unrelated, it's just the Start Menu.
titanium
yes, I understand what titanium is.
problem
I had gotten a little afraid to touch too much. I first installed Pays 6.1 rom. I clicked on an icon I didn't know what was. It was an icon of a phone with light bulb next to it. Suddenly, my phone went dark. I couldn't see anything to make any changes back. I did a hard reset to get it back to normal. This is my first pocketpc phone. I'm used to the old phones that dont have windows on them. These phones are much more complicated.
Ah, you were in Settings>System>Backlight and set the screen brightness to zero. Your screen was on, you could have seen something if there was some light around you .
Just open the Comm Manager by pressing the hardware button on the right side under the power button, there you can turn off the GSM.
I recommend you to just play around a bit, that bad experience of your is really singular .
pkg
This phone is like carrying around a brick. Its too big to put in my pocket. I tried keeping it in my coat pocket, but getting out of the car, its easy to fall out. Looks like all the new phones for 2010 are these big screen ones. I see in Comm manager where I can turn the phone off and the wifi on, so I plan to keep the phone atleast to use for the internet. My contract runs out in October. There is a new carrier here in the states, owned by Walmart, on the Verizon network. $45/month unlimited everything or $30/month 1000 minutes, 1000 text and 30 meg web. No contract either. I'm gonna go with them.

i just got my self an O2 XDA Orbit and i'm wondering what are the best apps and roms to have. i know it's a lil up to preference - i'm interested in the opinions out there. I already picked myself up copies of opera and cardexport 2 (i used the palm version and was very impressed). My main concerns is that i have previously been told that a firewall and a virus scanner were needed. Is this true?
Also i have read a lil bug the sd card issue. how do i know it has struck me? is the fix i have seen good?
i'd also love to be able to play fps games on the device when i am away. goes anyone know of any good review sites and/or shops? i also love playing GPL (general public license) games on my linux machine (no windows machines in this house. may have to, begrudingly, get a cheap laptop if i get problems with the device) so if there are any good free ones i will take a look.
I think that will cover it for now. if i get any more questions i will post and thanks for your thought guys and gals
if you feel progressive you'll start by joining the touchflo club using B&B4 rom (-->here<--). that might be a bit ...well, progressive.. if you just got the device, but hey, you got it for playing around like the rest of us, right?
before you flash a non-original rom to your device, make sure you read this thread. i recommend to ALWAYS use USPL before flashing something.

whats the difference between B&B4 and the official wm5 and wm6 roms? i do have the o2 wm6 update rom but i haven't installed it (coz i hadn't looked up how yet). so the phone is pretty much stock.
I bought the phone as a work tool but as i'm a techie and techie's get bored and wanna tweak stuff there is room for tweaking
The B&B4 ROM is WM6 but has extra features such as touchflo: like the HTC touch, certain finger movements make access to contacts, messages, music easier and finger scrolling like the iphone. It also has a much cooler look.
For WM6 and thus probably B&B4 there is a reg hack to reduce CPU usage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308792
To put a new ROM on your device, It is recommended to flash with USPL unless it is from your manufacturer and for your country. USPL allows other ROMs to be downloaded without disabling your device. I could describe it as a sim-unlock for ROMs, if you use a sim from your carrier, all is good, if not, you cant use the phone. A little more serious than a simlock though, if you flash the wrong ROM without USPL, it could damage the phone/bootloader so as to make it a 'brick'.
To flash a ROM, make sure device has more than 50% battery. Soft-reset it and wait for it to load. Plug into usb port and wait for activesync to recognise. Run USPL and a command prompt will load, wait for it to finish (~5 mins). A new window will open with a picture of the device, tick boxes, click next then update... A progress bar will let you know how far the download has got to. Once complete, the device will reboot to wondows mobile. It is now temporarily CID unlocked with a SuperCID. Now run the exe for the ROM you wish to flash. The same kind of interface will appear as before, tick boxes, next, update... Watch progressbar eagerly (wipe drool off mouth) and let it complete. Your device will reset with new ROM.
If at any point a problem occurs, aslong as you see windows or a multicoloured screen (the bootloader) you can do this (whole) process again to complete installation.
Hope this rather messy post helps you out a bit. As to applications, somewhere on the FTP site I think is pocket doom. BEWARE: Some files on the FTP site are viruses, not detectable by antivirus software.
Pete
wicked and that leads me on to my Anti virus question. is that any anti virus tools for WM5/6? iirc i have seen some pc side ones that scan the phone if it's connected and the app is setup for it. also is a firewall advised? are there any?
There are a few antiviruses for PDAs, but TBH the only viruses I have heard of for them are proof-of-concept so I doubt anyone really bothers.
If you really want an antivirus, I've tried this before and it seems to be ok http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/airscannermobileantivirus.shtml
When I mentioned viruses on the FTP site, I meant for your home PC!
oh right. i run linux so it's pretty much impossible to catch a virus infection. although i spose caution would be needed if i needed to install windows for something. i'm trying to install stuff straight to the device from the net atm using cabs and i have a tool that strips the cabs out of the exe files so all looks good there.
one question that has just crossed my mind (coz i just tried to do it and couldn't). Is there a way to install cabs once they have been save to the eeprom or memory card? i checked out "File explorer" for an option and didn't find one. "remove application's" seems to be remove only so, i'm a lil lost as to what to use. If i hit open in the d/l dialog in opera or PIE it installs them. Any tips?
You should be able to just tap them in flie explorer and they will run... You'll get a notification asking whether you want to run and then the usual installer screen will come up asking where etc...
i have to admit i didn't try that. i was thinking too far outside the box
thanks for all the help so far btw
No probs, I'm not an expert, computers and techy things just seem to come naturally to me!
same here but i'm known to have moments of thinking too abstractly and after using linux for so long i have kinda gotten used to having to think to get most of the things i do done.
i just saw some screen shots of B&B 4 and i do have to say "how good does that look?" i can't seem to find a feature list. i found it the other day. seems to have vanished in to the depths of the board tho. any clues?
Well I've got B&B4 and I must say It's probably the best ROM you can use on your Orbit... The black and blue go really well with the black and blue (duh) of the Orbit...
Heres the post for B&B4 with some screenies and the programs list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321503
It's basically WM6 based, with TouchFlo making it a bit like an iphone where you can use your finger to scroll through stuff. Other finger friendly interfaces like the new today screen interface (with quick contacts access, programs, weather, time, phone profiles etc), htc audio manager, new skin for wmp, some very useful utilities, etc etc
Like WM6, and in the (edited) post I made earlier, you should carry out the reg hack to reduce cpu usage, other than that, and needing a separate cab for live messenger, it is _thebest_
If you decide to flash it, remember to use USPL...
i may do. i think i'm gonna check out my options first. i don;t wanna mess about with it too much because it is spose to be a tool for work. but seeingas realvnc works pretty well i think i'm pretty much covered for my objectives in the software department except for GPS software. money is no object there. i want the best. i heard tomtom was a bit unstable (from a treo 750w user) so if that's true i'm gonna stay away from it
Tomtom seems to work fine on mine so far ...
As a 'working' tool
I've tried all the flavours of roms out there - but didn't like the touchflo stuff on B&B4... I need my today screen to have my calendar and messages on it, so the big clock is no relevance, and the touch stuff is gimicky.
I'm running O2 WM6 on mine, with a few tweaks. It's definitely most stable, and quite fast, although I run batterymeter to overclock to 240-ish mhz for a bit more slickness.
I also use todayagenda to replace the calendar plugin as its far more useful.
I have a synchronisation with my corporate Exchange server for office mail, and route my personal mail throuh an excelllent free imap service at www.axigenmail.com - simple imap servers, no frills, works excellently.
TomTom 6.02 or 6.03 work absolutely fine, no issues whatsoever.
I've just started using SPB PhoneTools on my todayscreen to give me a decent quickdial in the car... I've just replaced my car stereo with a Sony MEX-BT2500 unit (£90 on ebay) that gives full bluetooth handsfree integrationand streaming with minimal fuss.

Although my Artemis shows 60 % free program memory, this ROM is still painfully slow.
i've download now n will try...
Thanks for the rom!
Like user above, runs very slow on the main menu but once in file explorer etc it's just as fast.
Time to upgrade the phone??
3rd wm 6.5 rom p3300
I have tried all 3 version of this ROM,
nice look but very very slow on my artemis.
today TITANIUM good, Honeyconbs slooooow other apll quite fast,
IGO8 breeze, tt7 slow.
I hope that some1 can make this fast than today.
it was lag & makes my phone hang... this ROM requires more RAM...
anyway thanks uploader... something new...
tested it for 20 minutes.
TOO SLOW on Artemis.
downloaded and tested for a day or so now
the titanium is better than in previous versions, seems to run smoothly and integrates well at last...good to see the clock finally making a propper appearance in there
also the first chance to play with the new honeycomb interface.
unfortunately the jury is still out on this one.
my view is that it's more of a hinderance than anything else at the moment.
This totally replaces the start menu. Click on the start button and you're taken straight into the honeycomb interface. I wasn't expecting this behaviour from it...i thought it would be more of a today plugin replacement or something, and if it's going to behave like this on new roms it needs to be
a)quick
and
b) easy for you to find your programs or settings that you want.
Personally i dont think it does this yet.
You can click and hold to bring any app into the "favourites" part of the comb, which means you can now "pin" your favourite apps...mcuh like your last used apps used to automatically appear at the top of the start menu.
Unfortunately i think finding anything more than you favourite 5 or 10 progs would quickly become a real pain in the ass.
let me give a quick random example
on a "classic" style rom, let say you want to go to the "SMS SETTINGS" app....you'll go to start , settings, hit the communications tab at the bootom and choose SMS SETTINGS
on this i'll go to start, straight into the honeycomb. From experience i know that it's not in here (which is good becuase this is now a looong page to look in) so i choose the SETTINGS cell. now all i can see is 7 cells and remember there are no tabs here anymore so this is ALL of your settings. I've got About, backlight, bluetooth, buttons , certification, and clocks and alarms. Anything else i have to start randomly scrolling and searching so i start moving downwards. Eventually find it on the 12th cell on the left That's 12 'Down clicks'. If i wanted WLAN SETTINGS or something i would have to do a lot more scrolling. Everything is alphabetically sorted which helps, but it's a 3 colum system and so you still need to read ALL of the available options and you need to know EXACTLY what that app is called (is it TOMTOM or NAVIGATION? Is it under T or N ? etc...you get the gist)
I hope they are still experimenting with this interface becuase i think it looks good and COULD, if done right, be a really nice feature for the WM6.5 system...but it still needs some fundamental work before it works well. Remember how, from the concept art, we through it would be a 2d scrolling 'intellingent' list...it's not. It's stricly up and down alphabetical.
I can't quite put my finger on what it IS that's wrong with it...but there is SOMETHING...it just takes too lonk to find what you need at the moment. Maybe it's just unfamiliarity and it'll all become clear after a few days use, after all i've had 5 years of experience with the old system...the same as lots of people switch vista and XP's interface into win2k mode becuase they know where everything is. I always plead with those gus to stick with it and learn the newer systems becuase they usually DO make sense....but this time i cant see it yet
The new lock mechanism also needs some work. they've obviously tried to emulate a slide-to-unlock mechanism without making it TOO similar to the iphone....unfortunately this means that you get the small blue slider we've all seen on the screenshots at the top-center of the screen and sliding it 1cm or 2 to either the left or right unnlocks. I personally think this gives too much scope for accidental unlocking. I mentioned in another thread a while back about how a "shake to unlock" feature would be self defeating. the point of a lock is to make sure that when the phone wakes up becuase of incomming texts or whatever the phone doesnt totally wake up and end up accidentally resetting all of your calendar appointements or calling people while it's in your pocket....you need it to be HARD to unlock accidentally, but not hard to unlock intentionally. The balance is not quite right here either, same as the honeycomb.
it's still in beta and hopefully the whole thing just needs those last few "tweaks" to the functionality and ergonomics before it too "makes sense" but right now i'm more than willing to switch back to dhee's last manilla rom....it's just easier to use. I hope i'm right and that this rom is in BETA for both reliabiliy AND functionality reasons.
theres a lot of potential, but it isn't there yet.
these comments are ALL down to the mew 6.5 system, NOT dhee's rom, which seems to have done everything it can with what it's been given. Considering the clumsyness of the new interface etc this is as good as i could hope for a 6.5 beta rom to be, and i will install his next rom without ANY hesitation.
for anyone wanting to try the new features out, this is the rom to go for, but i wouldn't blame anyone for not keeping it for too long
thanks again dhee for a great rom, i just hope you get an improved system to pass on to us next. I'll probably leave this one for another day or so to see if it grows on me, jstu like i gave XP and vista's new interfaces a chance.
he's now updated it with an M2D version, link : http://pirun.ku.ac.th/~fscinrn/Download/Pawaj_65_M2D.7z

yeah, the M2D version didnt work for me....reverted back to his earlier 6.5 Beta 2 version with M2D becuase i dont think the honeycomb and titanium is quite ready yet

This one is not from dheewatara, and was one of the first roms to include WM6.5.
So far DJ M2D WM6.5 5.0 UL is the quickest and smoothest.
i found DJ M2D WM6.5 5.0 UL to be the same speed as the 2nd rom with M2D from dheewatara, but dheewatara's rom has the newer camera version (with panorama mode) and a slightly newer rom version if i remember correctly. I'm sticking with that one for now
we beg pardon for my terrible English :-[ , I wanted hear there is version room without additional programs ( light ) plz give reference
Hi ppl,
All the links give error .... not found....
Can someone give me a positive link?
Hi any re-uploaded links?
Thanks
Hi All,
First of all BRILLIANT website ... keep the good work up guys ... please bear with me with a few question that i have no idea about. Thought i'd put this all in one thread rather than 4 different ones:
1) Does it actually matter which cab file (i don't know what you call it ExtRom? please let me know what exactly you call it so it's easier for me to search for in the future) to use with which version of OS? Currently i'm on WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1 and i think i downloaded some can file from WM6.1 or something
2) Where can i find TouchFlo for WM6.5 Build 23004 WWE R7.1?
3) I installed the HTC Manila2d on my XDA iis but can not seem to find it any where, do i need to install something else besides this to be able to view the application
4) Most of the time when the backlight goes off on my XDA IIs, i press the power button to bring the screen back up only to find that the screen has gone white and then i have to reset my XDA a couple of times ... to get it working i have to make sure that i'm constantly working on some app for a good few minutes before i leave the screen light to go off
Would appreciate if you can help me with this. Many thanks in advance.
1. yes it most certainly does. if you had upgraded to wm6.1 and tried an extrom of wm6.5 you would probably be disappointed that some of the programs like internet explorer, office or wm6.5 specific stuff wouldn't work. the extrom is a bunch of cabs to install certain programs after a hard reset. that's why you should have a look inside the extrom and maybe google some of the cab names and decide, whether you relly need them or not. for example, if you never use java, mss, or pdf documents, leave jbed, arcsoft and adobe reader out of the extrom and save a lot of space on your device. in general, the rom chef gives a link to the extrom, fitting the rom best, but i think the last official extrom, released by a chef was with xplode's 21202. that is the one you want to take for the newest internet explorer and office and other useful stuff.
2. what? touchflo in general means... nothing. there are 3 aspects of touchflo: touchflo3d (=Manila2d), touchflo cube and sometimes touchflo is also referred to, when it comes to finger friendlyness and touch scrolling.
to be short, the touch scrolling is always on in wm6.5 and it is also quite finger friendly. about the rest... forget it.
3. you know, manila 2d is sooo 2008
manila2d is, as you might know, opticly comparable to an animated version of htc home with a bunch of extra features, and also, like htc home (or the above mentioned touchflo cube) it is improving the today screen of wm6 and wm6.1 devices. it might also work on wm6.5, but for that to be even remotely possible, you have to lose the titanium home (default today screen plugin of wm6.5, with the sliding and all...) so go to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and then manila might work for you, which still begs the question:
why would you want manila when you can have titanium?
manila is slow & outdated (if you ever even get it to work, most versions won't do on the BA), while titanium is new, modern, highly customizable, hip, trendy and most important of all, works extremely fast on the BA.
4. ok, assuming that you already checked the backlight and power settings, that leaves a few other things to check:
- does it also do the white screen, if you press the power button in the first place, to switch it off and then turn back on?
- did you do anything in the upgrade process differing from "the book"?
- did you try a hard reset? if you just upgraded, you have nothing to lose?
even more stuff would come to mind, but first post back if any of the things are done so far.

Chef_Tony
Hi Chef Tony, mate honestly i really do appreciate taking your time and explaining this what was once all french to me. Ok i totally get the idea of ExtRoms and Cab file. So assuming that if i use one of the 6.1 cab files on a 6.5 it should work correct?
Apparently i downloaded Manila2D from this forum, installed it but that didn't work ... i went to start->settings->today->items and unselect windows default and but it comes up as blank screen (home screen) and also i could see TouchFlo as an option and when i select that it takes me back to the home screen saying "Tap here to activate TouchFlo", no matter how many times i tap, nothing happens. So correct me when i say this, this TouchFlo which was showing up on the options is actually a Manila2D app right? I saw a video last night on youtube which said TouchFlo on XDAiis (sorry but can't find the exact link to it) and it looked something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFBifvgSgA i mean the interface and the screen tapping.
As far as the screen is concerned, it never used to do this but since i've upgraded to 6.5 it has started to. I followed the exact same process what the book said because i'm the sort of a person who follows the book and nothing besides that ... besides i've hard rest it as well but that still did not help. Ok here's what happens (i think), when the device is battery powered, it will white screen when the device is not used for a few minutes (sleep mode or whatever you may call it) but it does not happen when it's on external power because it's always on any way.
in general an extrom from wm6.1 would work on wm6.5 flawlessly. but as mentioned before, the versions of the internet explorer and office changed dramatically. you should include the newer cabs there.
this tap here to activate touchflo is exactly the manila, and normally it should start up then, but as mentioned before, there is no guarantee, every version would work with the BA, but i had a version once, that worked in general, it was just a little slow and some features wouldn't work, which is perfectly normal. you should have a look at this thread and maybe try the versions given there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340932&highlight=iolite
also you'll find other neat stuff there.
if you really want manila as your GUI, maybe you should try a nice wm6 or wm6.1 rom, because manila is really sucking cpu and ram, and with most wm6.5 roms those resources are optimized for titanium and even with titanium switched off, they just consume more hardware than wm6.1 for instance. it will run better then.
but your last sentence there is confusing me. what exactly do you mean, when you say white screen? is it actually showing all white, with backlight, or is it more like the display is off, a pale grey without backlight? if it is the first option, it seems there is actually a tiny problem there, could be together with manila, back in the day, when i ran it, i experienced sort of a third boot splash screen with manila installed and the device would take forever to boot up, soft resets were a major buzzkill then.
if it is the 2nd option, then it is perfectly normal and you can go to start->settings->system->power and set the device to never switch off on battery power, but instead just switch off the backlight.
last but not least (ok, i should have written this above): the video you posted!
the first 48 seconds don't show any manila stuff, that is called s2u2, slide 2 unlock a keylock app, you can download for free, from another forum member here, called A_C, on his site here: http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/ (all credit to A_C)
i wouldn't exactly count on the photo and video function to work on a BA either, as shown about 1:20
at 1:50 the youtube app is not part of manila either, but you can download something like that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227 or the official one here: http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=20991
i really wonder what the last app was, he showed, since i don't have sound at the moment, i can't tell whether he mentions it maybe, but probably doesn't matter anyway, because you are not looking for a paint clone, but for a nice GUI
hope this could bring you a little bit further in getting your device customized. let me know, whether everything worked out as planned.

Hi Chef Tony,
Trying Titanium on Xplode's v7.1 but cannot get my normal Today plugins selected - Pocket Breeze, Device lock, Comms, and a Programme Bar.
Is there an easy way to do this? (In M2D customisation you can set the Today page plugins...)
Thanks.
the titanium blocks everything else.
when you go to start->settings->today->items you see, by default, there is a list of a lot of plugins, but the only one that is checked is the titanium home, there called "Windows Default" for instance date and time is unchecked, which does not mean, you don't see the time in your today screen as a clock is also part of titanium. if you decide to work with m2d or other normal today plugins, you need to uncheck Windows default and then you will have access to the old today screen with the static, yet small, list of items. and then you have the opportunity to use all your today plugins. if you want to use titanium home and have plugins for that look for "titanium plugins" or "chome plugins".
and the plugins of titanium can be monitored, sorted and (de-)activated in "titanizer"
all those things in " " can be found in the forum, just have a look in development & hacking section or use the forum search
I don't know why but text messages on my US TMOB TP2 make this phone one of the most irritating devices I have ever owned. I am using stock 6.1 and the device lags so incredibly it is beyond description. One of the reasons that I purchased this particular model was because I wanted to be able to bang out quick text messages hence a full qwerty keyboard. I sometimes have to wait over a minute for it to stop thinking before I can access my messaging. And god forbid I am actually trying to accomplish something when somebody interrups me with a text message. Can I down grade this to WM5? I have almost had it!!!
Is it just me, or are a large percentage of the people who complain about this phone with T-Mobile?
From my experience my unbranded TP2 is just great using hardware keyboard
Of course not better keyboard then my beloved Universal but from the new devices TP2 is the best one with kb this days
I feel ya!
Well I do not have the T-Mobile TP2 but I have a Tilt 2 and on the stock WM6.5 is could get laggy if I have a lot of messages.... try clearing your inbox and that will help out! Now that may take a while to actually do the clearing, but don't worry the device is still deleting. My recommendation would be to look around the Rhodium ROM development forum and read up on custom ROMs or maybe an official T-Mobile 6.5 ROM. I am currently using TPC's ROM which should work w/o a problem on your T-Mobile TP2!
It really is a great phone and has one of the best keyboards around imo! So if you are willing to go for it and try an after-market ROM I recommend it, and its pretty easy although ya know you run a few risks (albeit low)!
Good Luck to ya!
Oh and no I do not think WM5 is an option!
i have a tmo tp2 and i have NEVER experienced keyboard issues. You prolly have very low memory problems or cache issues...if ur getting lag you prolly need to check your memory in task mnger and see how much program memory is in usage. download app called clean ram its a good utility to clear up loose memory.Delete history in your internet browser also when need be, stuff like this for cleanin up your memory is mandatory, also see the thread about TMO keyboard fix and see if you need that cab, search rhodium app section. You may have a bad/recalled phone also so i suggest you take it back to tmo if your still having problems afterwards.
This is stock ROM for you.
I had similar issues, but a cooked WM6.5.1 ROM reduced lags considerably.
Still, Windows Mobile leaves much to be desired.
My RAM is never above 56%. I do not run many multiple apps simultaneously. This issue of mine is not keyboard related either. It is software related because it doesn't matter whether I am using the keyboard or not. It just seems like the messaging portion just has a lot of thinking to do. I tap to view something and it just stalls out. Every other app runs fairly smooth. Sending picture messages basically is a 5 minute job. Very annoying. It also doesn't matter if I am using TF3D or not.
I've not done much in the way of messaging yet, but I've noticed that anytime I let PIE or Windows Explorer do anything that requires them to access the filesystem the wait begins. I've tried tweaking the cache size with Memmaid and it helped a bit, but it's still unacceptably slow. Enough to where I never ever use Windows Explorer now, and don't let PIE access the filesystem on the SD card.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread here. I think that your problem is my problem and it has to do with a defect in our devices that causes extreme slowness when the filesystem needs to be read by the OS, or specifically how that is implemented on this particular device. My iPaq 210 has no problem, Windows Explorer on it is almost instant in reading all filesystems, even the Windows directory itself. And with any of my many CE, PPC, and WM devices I've never had a similar problem.
you got some other issues going on, the stock tmobile rom was glorious for me, although now im on a official 6.5 rom euro style. Its got nothing to do with being tmobile either, and this place is mostly gsm thats why theres mostly tmobile complaints, and its been out longer than at&ts........
i never had a problem with the stock rom for tmobile either.
Try out SMS-Chat from VITO. That thing is faster than lightening to text with.
Man, I am PRETTY sure I was reading on XDA the first week TP2 came out for Tmo about HTC sending out devices with memory error? like some devices not having as much RAM as stated? I could be wrong by try to search. Maybe it could be that? warranty what?
Oh, and I am a texting whore (10,000-15,000/month EASY) thanks to my job and lifestyle and I have tried many phones in my life...the TP2 is amazing.
My gripe with the TP2 (or TMo Vario V with a stock TMo 6.5 ROM) is the inconsistency of the UI.
I get a different texting screen if I start texting from favourite people or from the all contacts list.
The "all programs" listing is different when started from the manila tab or from the windows key/symbol. And I didn't even start ranting on the subject of the calendar ...

This is why I ditched the HTC UI ASAP and went with a custom 6.5 ROM with Titanium...thing's a beast!
Hard reset solved the problem. Thinking of custom 6.5 ROM now since TMOBUS doesn't look promising.
Hi all, its been a while since I posted but I am the former user of the 8125,8525, and 8925 (tilt) and haven't used a pocket pc phone since then. I had my stints with the Fuze & Touch HD but thats another story. Anyways Ive been using the iPhone 3g/3gs for the last year and I recently sold it to purchase the AT&T Tilt 2. I must say although the phone is very good looking and this is the best qwerty I have ever used, the phone lags and it is kinda slow especially comparing phones like the iPhone or BBerry Bold 2. What are my options in terms of Navigating the GUI without TF3D? I remember when I used to own my pocketpc's I used a program called "HTC Home" which was simple, fast, and efficient. Does that program still work on the Rhodium? Do I have any options of using something similar to the TF3d but faster? Or will changing my ROM make the difference up in speed? Let me know what you all think and thanks in advance. Also What does "Manilla" mean?
Dude there are so many ways to have a decent UI without manila go through a lot of the rom threads and read about each one, Most have light versions and a titanium version that eliminate tf3d completely. MANILA= TF3D they are one and the same as I see it, some people might get more technical with you but its like a tilt 2 and a touch pro 2 different names for basically the same thing, minus a few hardware differences when talking devices. Also Give SPB Mobile Shell a try, you can download a trial and if yuo like it can either purchase it or do one of those promotions and get it cheap o pm me and I'll let you know where to find it I myself love tf3d and cant wait till it becomes fully modifyable with the ability to make my own tabs for whatever we see fit, It will happen just gonna take a while and have some genius' coding things so quick links can be installed in the script with copy and paste so its easy for everyone to do. I think there may be a few other 3rd party UIs out there too, so just play around and see what fits you. And if you cant fully uninstall something its not like a hard reset cant be done! Always backup what you dont want to lose.
See here for HTC Home for WVGA/VGA devices.
Buy an HD2
Windows default "titanium" is also very customizable and much less RAM eating than TF3D.
I´ll stay with Manila 2.1 working very smooth for me
I really lost interest in this phone the more I used it - I found tf3d to be too slow... Rather than flash ROMS, I gave SPB Mobile Shell a try. It's awesome! I removed all items from the today screen and just run the shell.
Memory usage is different as well. Before I had to keep it under 50% to get the phone to run. With Mobile Shell I just keep opening programs up to 80% and the interface doesn't lag.
Give it a try...
Want a familiar and friendly (as well as FAAST) interface?
Google iPhoneToday. It's mimics the iPhone interface and is very easy to setup shortcuts and icons.
Simply go t your SETTINGS>TODAY button and disable TF3D and ENABLE iPhoneToday.
I love this interface much better as it's quick and to the point. Also less memory uses than TF3D
