What carrier? I assume your phone is a Vogue, what state? What radio, PRL, PRI, there are a lot of factors. But carrier and radio are the biggest. There are many others like how many towers, antennas are in your area. Are you in a big city? a small town?

I once learned a good trick for this. Take the battery out and put it back in. This will send a jolt to the tower saying "I'm here"

HTC Desire and Reception (o2 UK)

Hey All,
I've completed a search but couldn't find anything specific on the o2 network.
I know there's been some issues with regards to reception after the 2.2 update. But i've had variable reception ever since I've had the phone which makes me wonder whether it's a phone issue as opposed to a network issue.
Is anyone else on o2 who can either confirm or reject my query? Even when I don't move my phone the reception jumps up and down like a yoyo which makes it frustrating when trying to send texts or dropping call quality (or calls itself).
If it's a network issue then it could be because there are too many o2 users and the network can't cope with the volume of people using it. I've been with o2 for a good number of years now and never really had a problem until now.
If it's a phone issue then I may look for another phone...possibly go back to a regular phone as other than checking my e-mails and occasionally going online (via wifi) I know I don't use the phone to it's full potential...
On o2 myself mate. Been with them for two years.
Tbh the reception is ok. But not the best. As for the desire the signal is pretty solid on mine but at times the data is terrible when colleagues have another operator and full data...
IMHO its hit and miss and by the nature of wireless networks.
You may find another operator better. But you might not. Its too hard to say...
reception issues
Maybe this is a radio issue I've had a lot of problems.
I've just changed my radio which is now something like
5.10.05_17.This was a downgrade and has turned no signal into
a full signal without even moving position. So I don't think its an o2 issue .
Hope this helps I'm sure it will.
Are you referring to 2g or 3G coverage? O2's 3G coverage is pretty poor comparedto others at the moment - although hopefully this will change once their network share with vodafone kicks in properly.

Ok does downgrading the radio mean I need to root the phone?

Good question, because of poor battery performance I rarely have 3g/mobile on so I'm referring to 2g. I only use 3g when I'm out and about and need to check something quickly. Otherwise I use WiFi at home. When is the network share scheduled to happen?

I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm on Vodafone and it's total gash for data. Yes, they have a lot of coverage, but a heavily congested network meaning that while you may well have a good signal, best of luck getting any data through it. I can't imagine adding you lot to an already congested network is going to help much. (of course it depends on where you are in the country - I'm in central London where the problems with Voda network congestion are well documented)
The Guy only asked about call reception now were miles away.

signal is just bad

So after reading lots of diff sites and this one as well, seems the desire z just has a generally horrible signal....
now this is prob a stupid question, but is there any way to boost this? diff antenna or anything? signal booster yada yada... if not my phone is going to be returned and ill prob get shafted with something crappy, as thats just how bell is....
so help me keep my phone pls.. if there is anything at all, would be great to hear
Thanks
Are you rooted? You can try a different radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
tried every single one, and not much changes in my home area... as stated before in another post, my wife, who is on an iphone 4, had nearly full signal, and i have the wonderful X and limited service, ie no signal....

I have perfectly fine signal. the only signal issue I have is with wifi when I'm holding the phone a certain way. this is a high end phone, if you're having trouble getting reception, talk to your provider/htc and troubleshoot.. you shouldn't have NO reception in the same area as someone else on the same network...
Good call pmcqueen...one thing I might add is that I saw a couple apps on and off the market that claim to boost youre signal

Not sure if its the case but if you have crap reception aka the signal from the tower isn't that strong, you can't magically make more signal.

[Q] Signal Bouncing Around

Has anyone else noticed signal on their EVO jumping around erratically? I can sit the phone down on a table and literally watch it go from full signal to no signal to half signal. It's all over the place. Any ideas how to fix?

Is this a new issue? Or did you just get the phone and notice this?
Also, do you happen to be in the "hurricane area"?
Weather can affect signal more than people think.
In huntington beach, CA, my signal was perfect. But visiting las Vegas, NV, my bars would randomly disappear and reappear quickly. I updated both my profile and prl then rebooted and it was solid. Maybe this will help you ?

This issue doesn't seem to be limited to just my EVO 4G. Also happened on an EVO 3D and Samsung Epic. I doubt it's hurricane related since I live in Iowa, although a hurricane here would be pretty neat. Have experienced this with all those phones in several different cities here so it doesn't seem to be related to a particular tower. Seems to be a Sprint thing because no one else's phone I know on different carriers do this.

Never seen anything like that on any Sprint phone around here.
Must be your area?
You didn't answer if this is a new issue or not.

Lost 4G at work, any ideas?

So when I got my Nexus I had great 4G at work, i'd use wifi tether and tether my tablet all day with no issues, although I never did anything that required much data.
These last few days I can only get 3G at work, but I can get 4G in the parking lot. I don't understand why all of a sudden my signal has deteriorated. I don't know if VZW is able to see I used a large amount of data in one location and force 3G to that particular area? I've tried flashing new roms etc but nothing works, I had 4G today up until I entered the building, but just last week I could sit at my desk all day with full 4G
My first guess would be that it is an issue with the Verizon tower you were getting 4G from before. You could call them and ask if they are having any problems in your area. You might be getting a 4G signal from a tower further away when you go outside.
I know you can force 3G to save battery, but is it possible to force 4G and no CDMA? Im wondering if I can force it to connect to a tower.
Or is it possible to rescan for towers or something? I always download new roms and stuff and it sucks on 3G =\
Call Verizon and ask? Or maybe they have like a service-status homepage you can check.
Like maybe that is better than asking here, since this place is like about the Nexus and not a telecom provider.
Or should all people across the world SPAM this place with new threads every time their thousands of different cell-service providers have random local outages? Would that be tolerated?
Why should Verizon-customers be excempt?
Pull the battery, take the SIM card out, and then power up the phone. It should ask you for a SIM. Now power off and insert the SIM and power back up. See if it helps!!

If you did that, you'd get no voice, just data. Wouldn't want that.

You can update your PRL.
Seriously though, call in and ask if they're having network issues in your area. If you've done nothing to your phone and it had 4G in an area consistently before and it doesn't now, the problem probably isn't on your end. It'll take 5min to call in and ask. Hell of a lot quicker than troubleshooting problems on your phone that might not exist.
Try updating to the latest bootloader and radio for 4.03
Verizon is the largest carrier in the United States, not just one of millions of carriers across the globe. A lot of topics here correspond to the LTE version so you should expect topics about what is going on with them. Besides, this is GENERAL forum. Can post and ask about anything remotely related to the Galaxy Nexus, GSM or LTE version.
Seriously, if you aren't a moderator, you shouldn't be trying to police the forum. Keep your day job.

I've cleaned this thread also.
Once again, consider this a fair warning. If you have nothing to say relative to the question asked, move along and stop the childish bickering.
If you lost service only in your building it most likely has nothing to do with your phone and is cell-tower related.

Sprint Voice Issues in the RDU area

I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues like this in the RDU area.
When I go to make a call, whether it be to another mobile phone, or a landline phone that has caller waiting. I get a busy signal. This happens on Sprint networks and roaming networks. I can resolve the issue by either powering the phone off and turning the phone back on, or by putting the phone in airplane mode and then turning airplane mode off again.
Has anyone else run into this issue in the RDU area? Specifically near Apex, Cary, and Raleigh? Or is this issue specific to me? The issue persists between wipes, and flashes of the OTA files, so I am pretty sure it isn't a phone problem anymore.
It's network side.
I've been seeing a lot of service issues across NC in the systems, it's not just the RDU area. Winston and Charlotte markets are encountering this also.
I actually think that Sprint's either tweaking the towers or implementing Network Vision. When the tower closest to my store went down, it was hell. It just came back up the first of this week, but we've noticed that 3G is blazing fast now.

I really hope this is the case. I live close to Garner and the signal in and around southeast Wake County is almost unbearable. I have been tempted to look at other carriers, but I am giving Sprint a little more time, hoping they will come around. I travel all across NC for work too, and it seems like it has gotten much worse over the last 2-3 months.

I noticed i could only get 1x when i was on that side of town the other day Sunsparc. I actually saw this happen about a month or two around the tower thats by Harris Teeter and the Ymca. Hopefully they're updating all the salisbury towers.
I hope they get it worked out. The last week or so I've had more 1x signals than I've ever seen in places around Winston that are normally strong 3g areas. I was also surprised when I was in Raleigh last week that there was no 4g around the downtown area and the 3g was crap as well.

Absolutely......I cent even use the 4g here in Raleigh.........it won't stay connected. I'm in the heart of Cary right now and I am fluctuating back and forth between one and two bars. Unreal

I just want to bump this and say this is STILL happening.
Called them up today and they said the only issue that they have been informed of is EVDO data issues.
So, I am stuck, because it is happening between wipes, Sprint says there isn't a problem, and I am not sure what else is going on.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Customer Care is going to tell you it's a device issue to get you off the phone. Go to your nearest repair location and ask them to put in a CTMS ticket for your phone. They should already be doing this for anyone complaining of signal issues where the device is found to not be at fault.

Yeah, so I attempted to do that today.
Went to the store, and they immediately told me that there was a tower outage, and they wouldn't pull my phone back and do any form of diagnostics. So, what I did was call up customer service, then explain to them what was going on and ask them to speak to a tech at the store.
After a while, they told me there were two tower outages, that were blocking 14% and 90% of calls, and then gave me the phone back and was told that the ETR was over the next two days.
To be honest, the techs there are not always the friendliest, especially the older one that works in the cary location, I have had the pleasure of dealing with him multiple times. Generally why I like to call more often than not.
As far as the CTMS ticket goes, is there any information that I should give them? I was given an ETR for one of the two towers that was told to me to be having issues.
Not sure if you can check, but they said Tower Number: RA74XC340 was experiencing issues.
Is this still a problem for anyone else? I have been having this issue happen continually.
