Uninstalling programs on ATT tilt 2, and it says "this is a system file" - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi all,
I am trying to uninstall program/apps that came pre-installed on my tilt 2. I just go to file explorer and delete the folders. When i do that, it will say something like "_home is a system file and deleting it may cause some programs to not work"
What does that mean and is it safe to continue to delete it anyway? Also, what is registry keys and stuff like that? If i wanted to delete a program or app, am i doing it correctly by just going into file explorer and deleting the folders? I know there are apps like total commander to delete registry keys but im not too sure how to use total commander and dont know what are registry keys. I am a first time WM user and these beauties are amazing, but it takes a while to learn everything. Thanks for all replies in advance!
Cheers

How to uninstall Intellipad?

I installed a CAB file called Intellipad. I just wanted to have a feel of XDA Mini on my XDA IIs.
But, now I want to uninstall this application, there is no way that this is possible until I do a hard reset. This is what I know.
Is there any less tedious way of doing so?
Thanks,
Siddharth
can u not delete it from the windows directory? i dont know as i have it and like it, but dont use it, and havent tried to remmove it. i would have thought if u look in windows and find the intelipad files if u remove them u get rid.
That would definitely stop the application from running, but I don't think it would "remove" it entirely.
Windows as an OS does not facilitate "uninstalling" the application just by deleting the files.
I already did what you have suggested, but that still leaves "Intellipad" as a choice in the "Input Type" menu at the bottom right.
Thanks,
Siddharth
practical tip
I assume you have a cab file for installing the intelipad.
open the cab file on your desktop to identify all the files that was inatalled at your phone (you may use win zip).
now that you identified all the file you may delete everything at you phone manual by finding them one by one (nice to start at windows directory).

I cannot get vitocopypaste to work!

i am trying to copy/move file, it wont tell me" file cannot copy or move".. i heard that Vito Copypaste is a good program, when i try to download it, my device says ERROR.. Cannot be viewed on this device.. I am pretty sure i have the App unlock.. because i have google maps, total commander and so installed.. any suggestings?
my understanding is that vito is for copying and pasting text, not files.
use total commander to move files...
I have tried that already, its says, cannot move or copy file! so i dont know what else to do...
This may be a silly question, but is your device app unlocked? Vitocopy/paste works great on my Dash.
i would think so, since i have total commander, farcade demo, google maps.. I am also running WM6.. i have no other problems installing/downloading any other files!

When your device is still Application Locked, you can still install some apps and they would work, however, some apps wouldn't run, so the question is, did you app unlocked it or not?
yeah i did do app unlock.. just not sure why vito wont work for me....
If using vito copy/paste to paste from one program into another, I have found that you cannot paste into password fields -- whether in IE, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini. I'm guessing this is a security measure either imposed by Vito Copy/Paste, The OS, or the browsers. I don't know why it's any riskier to do it in WM than in a Windows, but whatever. That is a pain in the butt.
If you are unable to paste a file using Total Commander and your device is unlocked, it's possible that the file is in use by the OS, or maybe in ROM?

just to add..Vito Copy Paste App could only be used for texts only and only in edit mode. It would not work on files etc..
thanks for all the info.. i appreciate it! this is VERY HELPFUL... after all this hassle, i was playing with total commander and was able to move i needed to windows/folder.. i cant tell u why it worked, but it did! trying to get the fav5 program to come up on my homescreen..Thanks again
looking back at all the posts ...
it seems that people have been telling you that the program is specifically used for copy/paste TEXT ONLY !!!
yet you keep on indicating what you have been trying is to move/copy files !!
are you even reading the helpful inputs ???
roger that! well anyways, i have it all taken care of!

Delete File in "/Windows"

I have researched and I know you can't delete ROM files, but they can be replaced. I tried, but the same message, stating the file is protected, appeared. I am trying to delete or replace a file called "ATT_Warhawk_boot" which is the file that makes an annoying and unnecessary sound while turning on the phone. I have messed with the registry and concluded that this is the best way. Does anyone know of a program or would like to walk me through any tactics that can help me?
Note that not all files can be replaced. But most of them can.
For a freeware solution use Total Commander on your device. This is a very powerful File Explorer for Windows Mobile. It also contains a registry editor.

Howto Uninstall Max Manila?

I tried installing Max manila on my TP2, but I must have used the wrong version. When the phone boots, it gets stuck at the "Touch here to launch HTC Sense" prompt.
I can get into the programs menu, but not into Settings. How can I uninstall this CAB if I can't get into Settings?
Tried looking at the original thread, but at 96 pages, the signal-to-noise ratio is just too low, and you can't find anything! Hence this new thread.
I really don't want to have to do a hard-reset!
if it is getting stuck at starting manilla you should still be able to click on the windows start button where you can get into the settings/home sections. From here untick sense and restart the device so it starts properly without starting sense. Remove manmanilla from remove programs option and then reinstall the working version.
Alternatively reflash your rom.

In WM6.5, there is no settings entry on the start menu. There must be a series of steps for deleting files and changing registry sessions that could be done manually if only one knew how.
There is a settings shortcut in WM 6.5, however in some roms the chefs have this shortcut pointing to the manila settings tab instead of WM settings dir. Obviously if manila won't load then this shortcut won't work for you anyway. Unfortunately I have no idea how to get that settings shortcut back on the start menu and working for you :/ You could use Total Commander to manually delete all of the files altered by MaxManila and then soft reset - your phone will then restore the rom's original files. There are a lot of files in MaxManila though, so it might take a while to hunt them all down. Use aiCabExplorer to open MaxManila's cab file and get the names of all the files to delete.

I tried renaming all the files and registry keys obviously associated with MaxManila, with no luck. I don't know how the files in the CAB get installed, but I searched for half a dozen of them and they were nowhere to be found.

Did you use Total Commander? File explorer isn't powerful enough to edit system files

TC for the registry, Resco for the files, but I have it set to show all types.
Well I've just checked - I can see and delete all of the MaxManila files in my windows dir except the homeservice.dll using TC. Don't know what else to suggest; there must be a way to get back the settings shortcut (?)
To get settings, change registry as shown:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo]
"HideSettings"=dword:00000000

File Explorer Problem

So I have been installing apps left and right on my tp2 and uninstalling the majority and I think one of them messed up my "File Explorer" application. I have total commander on my phone as well (it came with it on it) and I have tried using it but its too complex for me and I can't figure out how to do some things on it. Should I just try to learn total commander or is there another program my fellow XDAers suggest? Thanks!

...Or you could try to un-mess File Explorer. However, without a clue what exactly is messed up, noone will be able to help you with that.
Learn Total Commander. The only difference you need to worry about between File Explorer and TC is that to enter directories/execute programs you need to double tap, instead the single tap needed in File Explorer. That and to go to the parent directory, press the .. button at the top right of the screen.
Everything else is extra. TC is not hard to use, it just throws a lot of features at you that you do not need to use that often. But of course when you do need one of TC's many features they will be there for you.
And in fact...if you must....you can configure Total Commander to work with single taps like File Explorer. Assuming you have the latest version, goto the Show menu, then About/Settings, then click Single click start checkbox.
Yeah...what did you mess up anyway?
Did you mess up/have too many icons on screen and would like to sort them.in a better way other than windows/start menu/programs...?
anyway...try resco file explorer...or this lil puppy
