!!! Help! Touch Pro2 ....USB socket.... - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

The touch pro 2 USB socket broke... (the 11 pin one)
and it is out of warranty.
They are demanding $300 to get it fixed.
Does anyone know of some other way I can get this phone fixed at a much cheaper price?!? Please!!

How exactly did it break? Did the whole socket come unsoldered or did the little tab thing just break off? The tab broke off on my old Mogul & I just superglued it back in. VERY carefully. It worked just fine afterward, the tab is just there to support the pins.
If the whole socket broke off, all I could suggest is finding a friend who's really good at taking stuff apart & soldering. I would do it(used to do micro-soldering for Hitachi) but I live in OK.

$300.00...?!?! That's insane...when the same happened to my mda, I purchased a battery charger from cellphoneshop.net, that charged the battery without the phone...I searched their site and was unable to locate one for the tp2
I don't know how big bellevue, wa is, or if its close to a larger metropolitan area. If so, I would look on craigslist and search for "cell phone repair". I had my mda screen repaired by a company I found on there, pretty cheap....

Alright, thanks guys... but is there like a place where I can mail-it in to get the phone repaired? Craigslist isn't really helping. The phone charges, but I can't connect it to the computer via USB or use any headphones. Also, there are other MAJOR problems caused by this broken socket (it won't boot unless I have a USB adapter plugged in, and that it remains in headphones mode). The black clip came off, but it's kinda impossible to glue it back in.

it isnt here right now but try calling them and see if you can get a new port, if the port isnt soldered to the board.

CRADLE causing HARD-RESET???

I have had it happen 4 times in less than one week... occasionally my device somehow does a HARD-RESET by itself!!!
One time, I slightly shifted the device while it was just sitting in the cradle, and it did a HARD RESET!!! The other times it just happened when I was inserting it into the cradle or when I was removing it from the cradle.
Any ideas? This is a HUGE pain-in-the ...ASK me if I really like setting-up the device features over-and-over again. Aaaaargh!!!!!
i had this problem once... when i changed the sim card..
just make sure that the battery latch is secured properly.
Have you checked that the connector, or especially the pins on the pda2k are not bent/damaged? The design of the dock isn't great (unlike Toshiba pda's where the dock cradle is so high and good quality metal design with slide rails that you can drop the unit in perfectly and quickly) and if damaged could be shorting a power line. A collegue had this problem with an XDA and it was a chargeable repair as they say it is deemed user negligence! So be very careful docking your device!
Thanks Sunish, the battery is secure... don't think that is the problem in this instance.
lx_t ...I checked the connector on the cradle and the pins on the device and everything looks good.
Maybe I should get a new cradle? Do you guys know where I can get one of those newer cradles that allow the sync AND the recharge using the USB connection. I saw them on eBay (UK) but they were silver color and I'd prefer a black cradle to match the device. I'm in Canada though, so it's not that easy to find these things locally.
dunno if it will work, its not really fixing the problem, but try and upgrade your active sync, to v4 i upgraded to this and it seems faster and fixes a couple of fixes i had.... its only a suggestion tho..

UNIVERSAL : need a Coaxial Cable Pre-assy replacement

Hello
I am new on this forum, sorry if this type of question has alreday been answered.
I've got a UNIVERSAL/ SPV M500 and the Coaxial Cable (linking the screen and the keyboard) has been twisted and is damaged.
Where can I find/buy a spare part to replace it ? the reference number is 73H00233-01M (Coaxial Cable Pre-assembly) as indicated in the service manual.
Thank for your help.
Hey,
If you find it let me know, I need one two. Actually these are two cables the Coaxial (Display) and Coaxial (Functional). My screen goes white in landscape mode and I confirmed it's the cable by disassembling my machine. However was unable to find that cable Will let you know if I find it.
Me too.
I am getting odd touch screen errors and think it can only be the cable.
If anyone knows of a supplier, please post here.
Has anyone tried contacting HTC directly?
I've tried HTC europe , they forwarded me to the local repair centre. this one do not sell spare parts without repairing the item.
I'm trying to contact various shops . I'll let you know if it is successful

Give this site a look, http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk/Universal.htm
I have been having the same problems as you guys. my uni have been getting "white screen of death" for about 6 months now.
I am going to take out the cable and try and fix it myself. (fingers crossed)
I will let you all know how it goes. I felt £60 plus vat and postage was a bit steep.
coax cable
Fixed it!!
I took apart my uni down to the last screw, and rebuilt it.
In the process I did find that i am missing an antenna in the back, it should have 3 but only has 2. oh well it works.
The 3rd antenna is for 3g and i am not on 3.
Anyway back to my uni.
The coax conectors where a little lose, so after a good clean in a solven cleaner and popped back in to the conector holder, after playing for 20 mins I found that they poped back out verry slightly, just enough to make the screen go white and not function.
So the solution is to make sure it does'nt come back out.
ok.
well I have as a tempery solution put a tiny bit of foam on top of the connecter and held it in place with a bit of tape.
If this works for longer than a month then i will solder the cable down.
Touch wood it seems to be working. I will try and get some photos done tonight

Hi,
Congratulations!
What tools did you use for this job(srews, tweezers)?

Anti Static gloves!!
Because of the Job I do, I have an earthing band to connect the phone and me to the wall, and put the phone on an anti static table cover. All is good so far. I am looking at Feb to solder (as i have some leave in). There will be detailed photos and description.
Untill then........

Chris.
Good done man go ahaed, and plz try to post the photos.
Another question, my universal some times lost its external speaker sound, so i cannot hear the rings, when i press on the back of the device, exactly on the battery cover in the middle between the two dummy holes and the usb port, it works again. Do u think that this is due to the coaxial damage also, even i don'y have any problem in the screen??

I have disassembled my uni and checked for all connections, but there was no improvement. I can confirm that the disappearance of external speakers sound is not due to co-axial cable. The proof is that i extracted my main borad from my uni and implanted it in another one, i assumed that the problem will be rsolved, but the same problem still exists. Ok, now i can disassemble my uni for smallest piece, but any one advise me where is th connection part or the piece that causes that problem. Again a brief description of the problem:
when there is a coming call, i cannot here the ring or it is sevrely intermitent, also when i play any WMP file, i cannot here the sound, if I press firmly on the base or around the keyboard the sound comes again and may last for a few minutes or disappear after another press. So, there is a lose part in the main board i think that needs fixation, but which one????
Hi all
Now it takes me more than a month to upgrade my JASJAR due to a lot of problems I faced during this upgrading adventure… anyway, the last problem I still have is that after upgrading the screen goes crazy, I mean if you press on the screen the colours are mixed for few seconds and then its ok but at any time I touch the screen again the same happened so you can imagine what if I am going to dial a number or write a message …. So can anyone advice me what to do? …
The rom version is 1.13.82
Radio 1.04.02
Extrom 1.13.188
And I think the bootloader 1.00 and I don’t know why I feel that the bootloader is the reason ... I made a deep search but I couldn’t find problem like mine

Sitting next to my M5000 and all of a sudden the screen turned on but was white!
Following your lead I found that the first i.e. 'underneath' connector was not fully home. A little push and all is well.
Took the time to pack out the housing for the stylus to stop the little blighter escaping whilst in there.
Thank you for taking the time to post gingerchristopher.

[Q] Getting (electric ) shocks from mine DHD

Hello,
I send mine DHD back to the store where I bought it because I had some problems with, one they couldnt reproduce so I guess it vanished? But another which I always have had is that I get shocks from the DHD when its on the charger and I put the phone again my ear then I get a shock from the device.
Now I have told the store that and explained I have been having this issue for a long time but I though it was normall.
This sounds like something isn't grounded properly. That, or something's shorting out within the phone. Is the problem specific to the adaptor, as it's well known that a poor adaptor can be the source of much ass-pain.

[Q] Can this Gnex be saved or should I sell it for parts?

It looks like I finally got burned buying a phone from kijiji. I'll save you the gory details. It seemed fine when I met the guy but once I got it home there were issues.
My computer won't recognize the phone. When I plug it in, nothing. No errors, just nothing. It doesn't show up in Device Manager. This is my fourth Gnex and I have the Android SDK installed and the Google drivers. I reinstalled them just in case but no luck. Upon further playing with the phone there are other issues. When I plug in headphones, the speaker stays on and there is no sound in the headphones. The volume up rocker doesn't work and the 2 batteries I've tried drain like crazy.
So is it a lost cause? Unfortunately, I'm in Canada and can't get a cheap one from the Play Store and now I'm a little gun shy about buying used. On the bright side, I'm back using my Nexus One.
Any help, ideas, sympathy would be appreciated. Thanks!
As long as it has a good working screen it's probably repairable. Sometimes the USB port pins get bent and don't connect, or short to ground. You can try bending them back into place, or just replace the whole USB port if necessary. Not that big a deal. The audio out jack might also have a loose or broken connection. The battery drain is the most troublesome. I would just take it apart and reseat all the connectors and check for bent or broken ports, which can be replaced.
Check out ifixit.com for disassembly guide.

USB Port/Daughterboard Replacement

Some how (isn't that what they all say) got water in my GNex USB Port which caused the port to fry once charger was plugged in. Phone still fully functions as normal, just can't charge it. After pricing out a few options, I've decided to replace the part myself. Should everything go well, this should save me at least $35.
Just wondering if anyone else here as had to do this, would love to hear how it went for you. I'm currently waiting for the part to be shipped to me.
There's been quite a few people (not me so far) who've had to change their usb ports because they failed (stopped charging). There's several threads on how to do it, I've not bookmarked them but search would probably turn them up.
Should be pretty simple if the charging port is on a daughterboard and not on the main PCB. It's pretty easy to remove the lcd/digitizer + mainboard from the housing, and if it's just a daughterboard you should be able to disconnect the old part from the connector and attach the new one.
Thanks for the replies! ifixit.com actually has a detailed step by step, just wanted to see if anyone here ran into any issues while doing it or not.

Its fairly easy to replace the USB board if done with care and proper tools. A word of advice, when you remove the back cover ( the step after removing screws) pay attention to not drop the rubber buttons..... they are hard to find once they hit the floor . Anything than that, just do it with love and you will do fine
Success! Time to put the Aria back in the closet!
I take that back, the microphone (which is part of the usb port board) on the new board does not work. Attempted to make a phone call and they could not hear me. Used a voice recording app and got nothing. Looks like I'll be getting another replacement.
I've got to hand it to Wholesale Gadget Parts, Inc out of Oklahoma. That's saying a lot coming from a Texan, we usually aren't too fond of Oklahoma. As stated the other day, the replacement board I got had a faulty microphone. Called WGP, no questions asked shipped me a new one and got it within 48 hours. My GNex is now back to fully functioning order!
