Symbian OS to WM Contacts Transfer Issue ... help required !!! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Dear xda, its really nice to have such a forum where one can discuss issues and help each other . I have recently shifted from symbian to windows mobile and its my first WM device experience . I am having a pretty different problem transferring my contacts from one of my main sets nokia n73 . I have all my full detailed contacts setup in the set and want to move it to my newly bought wm device HTC Touch Pro 2. The problem is that my n73 contacts is setup bit customized in a sense that n73 provides facility in editing or renaming the labels of the phone number fields within a contact. So, I manage my phonebook in a way e.g. I edit a contact named Dave and within that I add a “mobile (home)” or “mobile (business)” field and rename the field to “mobile (Dave brother Josh)” … this way, I can track links to indirect contacts and also add less contact entries with more numbers saved within my phonebook. Now the problem is that I cannot move my contacts with same labels to WM as i think WM don’t offer label customization or renaming . Moreover, i cannot see more than one mobile numbers in the WM contacts whereas some of my n73 contacts have more than one mobile numbers ...... I can easily take backups of N73 phonebook from a 3rd party application named as "Oxygen Phone Manager" which lets me backup/restore my contacts with same renamed labels as setup in N73.
FYI: I am using WM 6.1 orange stock ROM (sim unlocked).
I have been searching on XDA-Dev and Google for more than a week now but unable to find a possible solution . This problem is making my htc tp2 unusable for me even though I want to use it as it’s a really cool device .
Can you xda genius guys help me out here and provide me a method of moving my contacts with the same labels as is setup in n73?????? i really hv high hopes for solutions here ....
If you guys still require some clarification on the issue, do ask....
Sorry if I have put this problem in the wrong section as I have recently joined xda….
Thanks in advance !!

Anybody who can help please !!!!!

Can any xda forum members guide me with this issue I still cant find a solution

2 questions regarding WM5 Smartphone...

I have added the Blackjack to my collection, which currently includes the i-Mate JasJam (best device I've owned), the QTEK 8500, HTC Excalibur, many Blackberries (hate all of them) and now the Blackjack. I absolutely love this device and am trying to make it better, so here are my questions...
1. Has anybody figured out a way to delete emails with a single button press like the backspace/del key on a Blackberry?
2. Is there a way to set up a shortcut directly into Outlook email without first going into the messaging menu?
Thanks! Hope you had a great holiday!

Mark all read and Delete all cab
Here is a Microsoft's developers cab that does exactly that. I have had it installed on my HTC brander S620 from day 1 and it is a wonderful addittion.
You will find that once installing there are two new menu items in the right soft menu - MARK ALL AS READ and DELETE ALL
I found this one day on the web (sorry - can't remember where) when I was first making the switch from full windows mobile to smartphone. I was thrilled to find it so I downloaded immediatly and loved it.
Enjoy
PLEASE NOTE -- This is a CAB file attached not a zip. I was in a hurry and when it would not let me put up a cab I just renamed the extention. Make sure you download the file and then rename the file extention to .cab. Then drop on phone and install.
Thanks JMD0116! I'll give it a try.

Contacts programme/manager

Sorry to bother you all about this, but I was hoping to get everyones experienced/educated minds on what is the best contacts manager/programme out there
Currently using standard contacts which comes with Schaps WM6.1 Beta ROM, but have also tried SPB Contacts & Photo Contacts Pro. v5.08 demo
All opinions welcome, and again sorry to disturb evryone on such a trivial question
cheers
Not one response!!! Was hoping for a little bit better than that!!
It depends what you want from a Contacts program I guess but I've been impressed with the standard Contacts program when used with the Random Access CAB file. I also use the contacts section of Pocket Informant 8. They're both different and both have their own strengths and weaknesses.
You may also want to try PocketCM for a bit of iPhone-ish type contact management. It's also worth taking a look at Face Contacts (at least I think that's what it was called) which displays selected contacts on your Today screen in a similar fashion to the way iTunes Album Cover Flow style works.
I have been using iContact and CNetX Face Contacts. I find that they are good for me.
I have been using iContact is very simple and good.
cheers guys

Noob needs help

Hello everyone I just bought a new Tmobile Dash and I have been trying to personalize it as much as I can but there are some things I cant seem to figure out.
1. When I play a video in full screen I have to watch it sideways. Its not horizontal.
2. I want to take "No upcoming appointments." off of my homescreen. I don't seem to have a "Today" tab under Settings to adjust the homescreen like I read somewhere.
3. And I can't seem to put pictures with contacts for when they call.
4. I was also wondering what kind of ROM I should install because I just bought a not so big 2GB memory card but I would like to make my Dash faster.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I have Windows Mobile(R) 6 Standard
Already got the answer to question 3. Any help with the others?...
No help I see...

1) There's a registry hack which will fix this problem. First you need to download a registry editor. This program will allow you to alter or "tweak" various codes embedded in your ROM (operating system). Believe me--it's not as difficult as it sounds. You'll need to Google the phrases, "T-Mobile Dash+registry hacks+sideways video" (or something similar) and also "Registry editor+T-Mobile Dash". A page should eventually come up explaining how to do it.
2) I have no earthly clue how to do this. Once again...www.google.com is very helpful.
3) N/A
4) If you want your Dash faster, there are several other ROMs which run quicker than the T-Mobile Windows Mobile 6.0. I'd recommend the HTC 1.33 ROM or one of the MANY 6.1 upgrades by Kavana or rickwyatt. A user by the name of Mikey1022 has all of them in his signature.
To answer your #2... I have never seen or found a way to do this. It seems to be a limitation of the OS. Before I upgraded to one of the WM6.1 ROMs I found here, I was using Facade (www.sbsh.net). It is not freeware, but it is a really solid program and there is an active user community with extensive skins available. It also has integration with PocketWeather.
Using Facade, you can customize what is displayed for appointments on the home screen. You can display multiple days, tasks, static launchers, etc. I don't know if Facade is compatible with the WM 6.1 ROMs. I chose to go the 6.1 route because I think my Dash is MUCH faster with 6.1 than it was with 6.0.
Facade will slow the device down a little bit... all home screen programs seem to do so... but it never bothered me. Even so, WM 6.1 is a lot better overall.
I hope that helps.
the "my appointments" ( for WM5 & 6) not WM 6.1. is part of the .xml code in the particular homescreen you have loaded. The homescreen files are located in the /application data/home folder if you locate the homescreen file you have loaded. drag & drop it onto your PC and then open it with notepad. then if your good enough to read quasi-html code then you should be able to locate the one for the my appoinments. all you have to do is delete everything from "plugin" to "/plugin" , then replace the file back in the directory you got the file from then reload your homepage
I did that but it wouldn't save as a xml file, but a text file so it didn't work

when you go to save the file ( assuming you're using notepad) make sure you type the file plus .xml at the end of it then for file type under it select all files in the dropdown. That'll ensure it saves as XML

1. Use TCPMP instead, it handles more Video and Audio formats and is a much better program, and its free TCPMP
2. As already suggested use Facade. It really is the best for customizing your homescreen if you do not know how to edit xml files.
3. Contacts have to be stored on the phone in order to use Pictures.
Tons of Customizations can be found by visiting my Mods Page (signature), such as watching YouTube and other streaming media on your Dash, Freeware, reg hacks, tips and tricks (yeah yeah, shameless self promotion here).
Ok so I have installed so many different things like pocketnester, different homescreens, different backgrouds and the TCPMP but everytime I download something it says it might not work properly because it was made for an older version of windows mobile...

Read out SMS from my Smartphone

Hi there, how can i develop an application that can read out sms messages from my touch hd (WM 6.5) ?
i want develop on my desktop pc an application that can read out all sms messages from my phone (tools are vista, visual studio 2008)
greetings
SMS
Should be able to using the Microsoft SAPI (speech) library. Would need to add a reference to it first in your desktop app. Look under the COM tab when adding a reference.
I've done it on Delphi / C++ but I believe it should be the same on C#.

Sending Bulk SMS from PC through TP2

Dear all, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for your qualified help.
I bought a short while ago a HTC TP2 with WM6.1. and I upgraded it to the WM6.5. using the original HTC ROM software. Before the Easter I've been trying to send several greetings sms to my friends, discovering the very limited sms capabilities of the TP2 (compared to my old Nokia N70) :-(((
1. I'm searching for a software application to install on both PC and TP2 to allow me typing SMS on my PC and sending them through the TouchPro2 (something similar to the Nokia PC Suite). Freeware is preferred of course. I've been googling for it, also doing a search on this beautiful forum, but I didn't spot anything reliable where TP2 is specified. Any good recommendation from your personal experience?
2. Actually cand someone point me to something similar to the Nokia PC Suite, does such a complete piece of software exist for Windows Mobile phones?
All the best to you all.

It looks like just using the features available in regular ol' ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center would achieve everything Nokia's PC suite does

Thank you for the quick answer. I am using Win XP, therefore ActiveSync 4.5 is on the table. (I am unpleasantly surprised by the limited and decreasing capabilities of the AS 4.5 compared to much older versions like 3.7, but that's another story.)
Anyway, I am not aware of such a strong feature allowing me to type sms on my computer using the ActiveSync interface, therefore could you please give some details about this? I guess that I need more than that in terms of software and that's why asking on the forum. Thanks.

That's not a part of activesync natively, I was just covering everything I saw listed as a function of the Nokia PC suite...I didn't see that SMS was part of that.
I know there's a number of apps that will allow you to SMS via an ActiveSync'd TP2, the only one I happen to recall off the top of my head is Jeyo Mobile Companion. When I get home this evening I'll see if I can turn up any of the other ones I've run across. Jeyo's product is great, but not free.

I'm not aware of any such software available for TP2, though it seems Samsung has developed a similar ( like Nokia PC Suite) for the Omnia B7610 based on Active Sync, I'm not aware though if it will work on our handset.

Sirphunkee, I was editting the post to give more details about the OS in use and about sms and probably that was the moment of your first answer. No harm done.
Thanks for the hints, I will see what Jeyo Mobile Companion can do. Of course other alternatives are most welcome.
With these limited sms capabilities of TP2 I feel like having 2 left hands :-((( Preparing a new sms one doesn't even get a view of the contacts list to click on the target name, but has to type the name. What about if having 5 or 10 persons to send to? Unbelievable unconfortable and unfriendly.
Sorry, the bitter comments are not addressed to you, but to the software designers which did not put themselves in the user's shoes.
Thanks for your open minded support.

No problem
And we'll gladly add your opinions about how SMS is lacking on winmo to the pile that's already accumulated around here
Group SMS does not text from the pc but it DOES allow for mass sms. Also it is not free. That said, I use it to mass text people and it gets the job done nicely...you simply set up groups, check off the boxes of those you want it sent to, type your text and send.

Yet I am a bit confused as you mentioned that Group SMS does not text from the pc, but, following your link, at the bottom of the page it says Skb Group SMS and Scheduler 5.2 does a PC application. May be there is a new version, if so I'll be most than happy. Also HTC TP2 is not shown in the Compatibility devices list, may be the list is old.

Not really .. I admit that I do miss the ability to send SMS/MMS from my PC thru my old Nokia. PCSuite also allowed you to view/delete your messages on your PC, selecting which you needed to keep and which could be discarded. I honestly expected some kind of PC software to come with my TP2 and was disappointed to learn AS was the answer.

Thank you for the hint. I installed the Samsung New PC Studio v 1.4.0 for Omnia, it looks nice and similar as functions to the Nokia PC Suite, but as expected it does not recognize my TP2 phone as connected (USB). A matter of drivers I would say, but how to solve it? Thanks anyway, I forgot that Samsung put on the market WM phones.

I fully agree with you. All the major phone manufacturers are supporting their phones with a free PC Suite, I am disappointed that HTC didn't cover the WM phones. Active Sync is a very poor solution with very limited features. I know there is a HTC PC Suite for the G1 nad Hero Android phones, but not for the winmo phones.
Btw, I wonder if anybody asked HTC about a PC Suite for the WM phones, with TP2 in particular, and what was the HTC answer?

This is a newer version from what I have, which did not have pc linking...apparently they have changed that, but to what extent I do not know. I run version 5.0 on my TP2 without any issues and it does a fantastic job!! I am pretty sure that if an older version runs good on my TP2, this updated version will work just fine.
Hi again. These days I managed to install and test both the Jeyo Mobile Companion and the Skb Group SMS and Scheduler 5.2. Both are nice and doing what they are supposed to do, but I consider the Jeyo Mobile Companion more user friendly, looking closer to the Nokia PC Suite I am used to and therefore more appropriate to my needs. So I will buy this one. The only drawback is that is doing only sms and not mms, but is good enough for me for the time being.
Thanks everyone for the good advice.
Sending Bulk SMS through TP2
You can enter multiple recipients manually or create a group where you add members and send bulk SMS like that. You can also search (or scroll if you don't want to type) through your contacts to add them to an SMS. You mentioned that you are not able to do this.
Can you tell me what limitations you've discovered in TP2's SMS?
Just curious.
Thanks!
I have been using PowerSMS and My Mobiler to bulk sms from my phone via PC. Although I do have a bit of lag when typing, but that may be the Fuze vs TP2.
Also, Google Voice can do this for you too. I won't get into the setup needed but you can bulk sms from that interface.
I've used Efficasoft mobile Express (free), but since upgrading to latest 6.5 ROM, I'm having a problem with SMS remaining in 'outbox'. I have emailed them and they're working in a fix.
Just thought of an application which could allow me to "bulk-text-message", and after reading here, I am giving PowerSMS a go...
My carrier here in Norway has a program I can install and use from Outlook. It syncs perfectly, of course, and I can just click all the contacts I want to send the SMS to and click send.
Maybe your carrier has something like it?

I enjoy using it. During NFL season I burn through thousands of texts to Fantasy league members, family, etc. I still haven't figured out a way to backup the Lists that I create so I end up having to recreate them after each flash.
