Possible to remove Apps from cooked ROMs? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Can I remove some of the apps from the cooked roms? I don't see these apps in the installed programs list so I am not able to remove them using the normal method.

Root/ Froyo question

I currently have a R3 Rom with A2SD on it. The only i rooted was that i can install A2SD on it to have apps on the SD.
But since froyo will allow for apps on the SD, is it better for me to install the original froyo rom rather than an aftermarket?
The stock froyo roms idea of a2sd is crap!
It only allows you to put certain apps on SD, and then only after the app developer has made it possible in their app.
You can flash a custom froyo with the old a2sd. A good combination in my opinion!

You do realize that's how it's supposed to work, right? I've had no issues with it, and neither should anyone else who has at least 2MB free on their device.
So how does it work, does it work with every app?

No, only those that have the option enabled by the dev. Just go to Applications > Manage Applications. Then, if you tap on one, you'll see a Move to SD button. If it's not greyed out, and the app isn't/doesn't include a widget, you can move it. If not, no. You can probably move most apps you find under Downloads there.

[Q] Removing Bloatware without Flashing new Rom?

Is it possible to remove the bloatware apps on a HOX without having to flash a new Rom? I can deal with rooting my phone but the rom business is confusing and id rather keep Sense but get rid of the pointless apps if thats possible
Thanks, apologies if this has been covered before.
Here's what we're going to do.
Root your device.
Get "Root Explorer" or any other file explorer with root capabilities.
Mount R/O.
Go to "system ->app" and remove what you like.
Keep in mind that there are some system apps that shouldn't be removed though!

Thanks, will do.
Is it easy to upgrade rom, say when KLP is released?
You must make a nandroid backup directly after flashing the custom recovery. You need it to get back to full stock to be able to have official updates.
If you want to delete system apps i would like to recommend titanium backup.....you can uninstall and re-install system apps.
Removing Bloatware
Try an app called "Root App Delete". I tested it by removing one piece of bloatware and seems to work very well (you must be rooted).
Being over cautious I have disabled (rather than deleted) all other bloatware for 2 weeks now just to be sure all is ok to delete.
yes it is possible

There are many apps listed
you can try sd maid, rom toolbox, root uninstall,
See you have many options now
Thanks for your replies, can you not get OTA updates when you're rooted even if you stick with stock Rom then?
Yes you can but you have to leave the rom itself 100% stock (no removing of system apps) and you have to reflash the stock recovery after applying the root because you root the rom via a custom recovery.....i dont know exactly if a tool can root the rom without a custom recovery.....

[Q] GB27 Rooted-Stock Bloatware Removal

Is there a list of safe stock bloatware apps that can be removed from stock GB27?
I used Sdx Stock App Removal to remove the bloatware that I could match with the corresponding .apk file and those listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35744929&postcount=2
However, there is still more bloatware that I can not find the corresponding .apk for removal. Is there a list of stock apps that are safe to be removed?
PS: The .apk files seem to be named differently in GB27 for the same bloatware app when compared to previous android versions...
Try this one version 2.4
I know there is a list somewhere of some other things you can remove too.
Titanium Pro comes in handy here too.

That one is essentially the same list. The app I have allows me to remove these stock apps easily so I don't need to use TP. Still...there are some apps left over of which I can't find the corresponding .apk files to remove. Maybe if there were a way to find out the .apk filename associated with apps installed.

Download romtoolbox. Go to app manager. Long click an app. Click show more in the next window. It will show you the apk path / data directory

I've been using SystemCleanup for a while and love it. Provides a description of a lot of the apps and whether they're safe to remove or not (one notable exception I would NOT remove is the stock galley). You can also freeze apps or convert user apps to /system and even odex them.

Using CleanROM without some default-apps

Hey,
im using the CleanROM of Scott. there are some apps installed by default, i dont want to have.
The apps are:
\system\app\Flipboard.apk
\system\app\Evernote.apk
\system\app\SamsungWatchON.apk
do i only have to delete this files before flashing the rom or do i have to delete some apps else, that are depending to the apps above?
thx and grz

There should be no dependencies. I would not suggest just deleting the files from the system directory . You can remove system apps using apps like Titanium Backup or ES File Explorer. Check them out

Flash the ROM first, then use TiBu to freeze the apps you don't want. If you are happy with it after you do that, you can either just leave them frozen or make a backup of them then uninstall them.

Isn't there an app that can quickly remove all the samsung preloaded rom bloatware? I'm going to look one up, just make sure to make a nandroid backup before.
