So what happened was my original one had a microphone problem, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4779840#post4779840
So I backed it up with SPB Backup and Sprite (just in case) and last night since I had some time to kill I verified the backup would restore properly. I didn't try Sprite yet, but SPB worked just fine. It asks a few questions during the restore process, but nothing surprising.
Today I replaced my Tilt 2, it just finished charging and when I went to restore the exact same backup I restored to my previous Tilt 2, SPB Backup says my ROM version is different and what type of restoration process to follow, ROM Upgrade Mode, etc... !?
Both were hard reset before restoring, etc, so... Interesting! I didn't look at the version of my original one, but could some of you look at your phone info and post your ROM version? Stock ATT ROM's please ;-)
This phone shipped with this: CE OS 5.2.21849 (Build 21849 5.0.63)
If the ROM is already listed, no need to re-list it, just curious about different versions out there. Very interesting that two phones from the same store 4 days apart have a different version, wish I knew what the original version was! I guess I could maybe restore the "whole thing" back in SPB and see if the version differs... Might do that in a bit.
I have the same OS version you do, and here's my ROM information:
OS version: CE OS 5.2.21849 (Build 21849 5.0.63)
ROM version: 1.59.502.3 (67150) WWE
ROM date: 9/25/09
Radio version: 4.48.25.20
Protocol version: 61.39tc.25.30h
dupe, ignore
Interesting.. From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4720804&postcount=15
The dump from Herg is build 21839 the shipped ATT build is 21849.

Hi all,
First of all I want to thank you for your time.
I bought a Blue Angel device from a friend of mine but unfortunately I'm not so sure who made it.
It does have the bluetooth, camera on the back, wireless wifi, etc.
About a week ago, the phone function died. I verified that it wasn't the GSM card because when I moved the GSM (Cingular) to a different cell phone, it does work.
I then found out that from the device information, I only saw the ROM version, ROM date and ExtROM version BUT the Radio version and the Protocol version are blank.
I am attaching the devicedata.txt.
With that in mind, I have tried to upgrade the ROM and the Radio. I'm currently running the O2 ROM with the following information:
1. ROM version 1.12.62 WWE
2. ROM date: 10/04/04
3. Radio version: Blank
4. Protocol version: Blank
5. ExtROM version: 1.12.178 WWE.
When I tried to upload the Radio ROM, it seems to upload it, no error messages but still the radio version information is blank and my Blue Angel is still not recognizing as if the radio is off.
I tried to upload other ROM, like Imate PDA2k, Siemens SX66, etc but I couldn't because sometimes it kept complaining about country id or language id not correct.
I really appreciate any helps, inputs on this matter. I'm kind of dead on the water without my phone...
Thank you so very much,
Tambeng
Upgrade everything, not just the radio rom, you have a really old stuff running there...
Download upgrade from. clubimate.com and install it. But only of you have PDA2K.
I did try upgrade it to the following:

Do you think the fact that the radio version is blank is the cause of my phone to die?
Has anyone else since this issue before?
Thanks,
Tambeng

I tried to download but it says about the model is not correct.
btw: what does it mean by a ROM that says cooked?
Thanks,

No, no. Try to download from official website. What is your PDA call? It must be says some where on it.

It means that somebody made it by himself - not official. People take different parts from different ROMs and put them together into one ROM. You don't need things like this right now.

Very possible. What is wrong with your phone exactly? It's searching for signal or......?
It's actually really interesting that it didn't have any brand at all on it.
It just says, PocketPC on the top right corner. Can I identify the maker from the IMEA? I can share the IMEA number.
As for the phone, it doesn't even search for a signal at all. It just have the exclamation mark, like "!".
Thanks for your help,
Tambeng

Hi, lastnight i upgraded my radio from .03 to .09 and it worked perfectly, as normal i had to make sure the phone was in bootloader mode to make t work, i got the files from this sites FTP server, XDA-Developers site is all you need!
Thank you to everybody that gives there views and advice freely!
P.S i got Pocket plus to install after i did another hard reset, phewwww
Don't want to sound stupid but ...
.. is upgrading your ROM an easy thing to do for a non teckie ?
Do you need to hard reset etc etc. ?
Is there a guide out there ?
Don't wanna take the plunge and mess things up. I've got loads of software and tweaks on my SPVM5000 - will Sprite Back up re-install with a new ROM. I'm also on 1.13.49 same as jab1a.
Hello All,
If i replace my xda exec rom to orange rom, it will be locked?
Another question, where can i get the radio rom 1.09 to flash the orange rom?
Thank you,
racerx
Hi Rick GM,
the ROM upgrade is pritty easy and the Radio update is aswell, everything you need to know or might not need to know about the update is in the WiKi and forum. its real easy.
As for backups, im not sure how this works but for good measure before i did the upgrade i did a FULL backup, then i did a non-rom backup (i.e i just backed-up the things i had installed on the m5000) then i did a PIM and message backup (note: i only ever have problems with a restore when i decide to restore the messages databases so unless you realy need to i would only backup the PIM(contacts) database). I think if you tryed to do a full backup and then do the upgrade and then restore the full backup you might run into a few errors or incompatability. it only takes about 30mins to do the update and about another 20mins to re-install all your software and then the rest of your life to get all the setting you want just right! lol
I am sure you will do fine, after all this is the best site in the world for PPC so im sure someone here would be able to help you if it all goes pear shaped
Moved thread from news section
Thanks for that jab 1a
I haven't taken the plunge yet but it's coming !
I think your 20 minutes to re-instal software is a bit optimistic even if all goes well. I reckon it will take me an hour plus to sort out all the cr*p that I've got on my device. (I keep a copy of everything but some's on my home PC and some at work).
I'll update you when I finally pluck up courage / find the time.
BTW - I'm only going to do it because you can. Isn't that what these devices are all about ?

Well I upgraded with the ROM from the Orange site (1.30.90) - no problem. That's good news.
Sprite Backup V5.1 is newly released this week and boasts cross ROM/Device backup capability after capturing your old ROM in .sbu file immediately after hard reset and prior to ROM upgrade.
It hasn't worked - it won't recognise my .sbu file (Invalid Upgrade File) or words to that effect so it looks like a slog to put everything back on (unless Sprite can restore (no pun intended) my faith in them and come up with an answer. Might have a go at the Radio Rom next.
I have the new ROM from Qtek into my Universal. Is it worth the upgrade to this new Orange ROM?
best regards,
Deiota

Sprite really screwed up here.
When they released 5.1, they re-introduced their killer rom upgrade proof restore feature. It even works for the new self-extracting restores. How cool is that?
Now, today, I had to have my SPV M5000 replaced (same model) because of a screen problem, and knew the replacement would be AKU2, so I purchased Sprite 5.1 to back up with. I looked around all the different pages I could find showing how to use Device Upgrade Mode. All had links to the same GetUpgradeData.exe. So, even though I had that nagging developers' intuition that this must be wrong, I assumed it was the right version. I only had twelve hours to puchase, get the file down, and do all the backup stuff.
Then I exchanged devices with the courier. (Orange care is great (mostly!)). However, when I tried to restore, what a surprise: "Invalid Upgrade File". Checked back on Sprite Site - ONE page out of the five or six links to GetUpgradeData2005.exe. Howl !!!! :x
Can someone please post an UpgradeData.sbu, from a clean vanilla Pre-AKU2 M5000, dumped with the new GetUpgradeData2005.exe, otherwise someone at Sprite is just gonna have to die. Lots.
Many, Many thank yous in advance!
Update: Sprite have kindly offerred to provide an sbu for 1.13.53 WWE.
Unfortunately, as best as I can remember, mine Rom was 1.13.49 WWE.
Can anyone please tell me of an identifying characterstic by which I dould have distinguished the two versions (bearing in mind - I don't have the device any more), or even better an upgrade file (sbu) for 1.13.49 WWE?
Mutant
I too used the GetUpgradeData.exe as advised by Sprite. After registering my problem they advised me to use the GetUpgradeData2005.exe and sent me a copy. Unfortunately I'd already upgraded the ROM so didn't have the .sbu pre upgrade. I've since got a clean 1.13.49 from a colleagues Orange SPV M5000 but the backup still didn't work. Sprite recognised the .sbu but just messed up the device (after partially restoring) requiring several hard resets. If you want the .sbu, I think I've got it stored somewhere. Let me know.
T-Mobile UK Vario II HERM300
IPL - 1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Rom Version: Black Satin
Rom Date: 07/10/07
Radio Version: 1.41.00.10
Protocol Version: 32.74.7020.18H
I have searched and as you can probably imagine any people have done neraly the same thing, but i cant seem to find one exactly the same.
I am in need to revert back to the original WM5, but to keep the phone unlocked with SPL 2.10.Olipro. I used the Hermunlocker.
Beleive it or not i have a backup rom.
Is there anyone that could help me step by step on what i need to load into the device and in what order.
My need to do this is to sell on and move onto the next Vario.
I see there being a problem if i sell it on, in the way that someone will probably get confused without the original O/S on.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Sorry if i have repeated myself over another post, but im being honest as i have been looking from work and home today.
Again thanks in advance.
In my current position can i install rom
RUU_Hermes_TMO_UK_3.60.110.4_6275_1.50.00.00_108_Ship.exe
Thanks again
If you've got the original ROM or a provider supplied upgrade then rolling back to that should not be a problem. Have a look at MrVanx's link in my Signature.
erm, this probalby isnt the place for this
you didn't hear from me, but there is an official t-mobile wm6 for hermes on the t-mobile.co.uk website.
a few small issues with it, windows live is not supported neither is blackberry connect. oter than that it seems ok.
you may need to change your voicemail number from +44 to 0044 prefix
it may not be up there for long tho
i updated my HTC Touch Diamond (3700) and noticed one thing
after i installed the new RUU_Diamond_HTC_Asia_WWE _1.93.707.1 i checked
which rom release (settings - Device Information) i have and i was surprised.
My HTC show me:
Rom Version: 1.37.405.1 WWE <-- previous one
Rom Date: 07/13/08
Radio Version 1.00.25.05
Protocol Vers 52.29.25.12H
it seem that the new RUU_Diamond_HTC_Asia_WWE _1.93.707.1 still have the old 1.37.405.1 WWE inside plus the new Radio and new protocol
Can someone tell me why The Rom Version is still 1.37.405.1 WWE and not the new one "1.93.707.1 " i installed? Now i am confused
I believe the flash has not happened
hm ...strange then why after flashing i have the new Radio and Protocol and also the Fltouch is different now ...any hints or idea ? I have SPL-1.40Olinex loader installed
should i maybe first do a Hard Reset and then install again ? i have my doubt that the new 1.93.707.1 has really a new rom inside
thank you

hi again and more infos. I did a hard reset and now my htc show the correct rom release 1.93.707.1.
What i suppose is ...after the data restore from my previous rom release i saw that the HTC rom release was 1.37.405.1 WWE and not the newone. I did a restore with Level1 option , so i guess i got some system information from the previous rom backup... hmmmm strange
here step by step what i did now
- hard reset and upgraded to 1.93.707.1
- check Rom Release ...and now is ok , it show me 1.93
- execute a backup of my htc and also a registry export
when i use restore, which upgrade Level should i use?
Level1: Use this option to perfom restore operations between the same device
with different ROM revisions. For example: restoring from a KJAM ROM 2.16.9 to a KJAM AKU2 ROM version
Level2: Use this option when you wish to restore across devices and ROM versions
Level3: If your device does not boot after permorming a "level1" or "level2" restore use the "level3" operation
i am going to install all again, i am not sure i can restore my previous data and ikeep the correct rom release..
more hints, help or explanation ?
thank you

Hey,
I'm pretty new at this, so I'll explain how i've gotten in to this.
1. Bought a HTC tytn UK and I wanted it in dutch
2. Since I couldn't find an original rom i flashed it to the dutch rom from shap's (wich is actually great)
3. Then i did find an original rom but wasn't able to flash it so i used "HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlock - v3a"
4. The original dutch rom works fine now, except when i go to device info
Rom version: empty
Rom date: empty
Radio version: empty
Protocol version: empty
CPU: 8 squars
speed: 6 squarsBe...
No imei number and so on.
Can someone please help me, maybe in the future when i try to sell the phone this must be ok.
Thx a lot to all xda developers here !!!
edit: original bootloader and ipl were: SPL-2.05 IPL-1.04 (maybe it has something to do with that?)

1) you need to flash HardSPL
2) make sure you have flashed a new radio after using the CID/SIM unlocker, due to the fact that it downgrades it to a very old radio for it to work.
I had this issue when I tried a version of HTC Home Customizer that I found somewhere on the net.
To make it all come back, I had to hard reset, and not reinstall the program that caused it. I'm not sure if any other programs could cause that issue, or why it was caused.
I've flashed my device to HardSPL. now wich radio rom should I use?
I've found several radio rom but I don't have a clue wich one is best for me (Belgium, Mobistar)
flash a shipped ROM from here, there is a dutch HTC from there. get to boot loader, pressing the ok on the left, power on right, and stick stylus in at the same time. plug it to active sync, and run the exe file from the WM 6 rom upgrade/downgrade.
