i found 2 themes that I would love to put on my phone but they are for 4.0.4. Is there directions on how to port them as I did find a 4.1.9999 theme template but really have no idea wtf im doing with themes. Should I downgrade to 4.0.4 instead, or would I really be missing on key features. I mostly just call, txt, and web, maybe use google maps if im stuck somewhere. Is it as simple as wiping and writing the 4.0.4 over the 4.1.9999 and any clue where to find 4.0.4, found the one link in the development forum in offfical thread but its dead. Thanks for all help and opinions.
these two are pretty badass...

I think that if you want themes you have really only 2 options.
Learn how to make themes for yourself because it's really not that hard. Just time consuming.
Go to a stable build (like 4.0.4) and use the theme of your liking.
The main reason why there aren't a whole lot of themes out there for the experimental themes is because they are EXPERIEMENTAL. Experimental = possibly unstable. Adding themes to even a stable build can mess it up. Also, if you are using an experimental build and have problems while your using a theme it is likely that Cyanogen wouldn't easily offer you support because it's likely related to the theme. Besides until you either make a theme from scratch or port over your favorite theme you have no idea how much time it can take. And nothing is more aggravating than to successfully port over (or make) a theme just to find out that another ROM update has been released.
can i just go into recovery mode and put 4.0.4 over 4.1.9999 and should I do a wipe? or will I have to do more than that. Thanks

Yeah it's best to wipe. Normally you don't have to with Cyanogen's builds, but as 4.1.9999 is 1.6 AKA Donut and 4.04 is 1.5 AKA Cupcake then it's a very good idea.
After wiping just flash 4.04. You shouldn't need to wipe your ext partition.
know where i can find 4.0.4?

That's pretty much why I just use a rooted version of the stock rom.
Yeah, right now im using the stock rom with netarchy kernal
Im a huge fan of the Damage Control and Fresh ROMs. Im a bigger fan of the Fresh ROM and am currently running his 0.5.3 version. Anything that has been removed by the developer you can always re add to make it your own.
I'm using Damage Control right now, but it gets the boot as soon as CyanogenMod is released.

Hey guys, could you either describe or post links to threads describing some of the roms that you're bringing up?
I mainly rooted my phone to customize the hell out of it, but now I'm interested in things liek overclocking it, and using less battery without losing use of my camera and camcorder.
Ok ok so which would be the closest to the features that sense offers by the way on those roms can u use sense widgets
if you really really like sense and do not want to get rid of it you don't have to. the ROMs like Fresh and DC uninstall only parts of Sense...and they put those parts in a folder. if you to add something back like FriendStream or FMRadio for example, then you just double click it to reinstall it.
from your two posts, i'd say use Fresh 1.0.1 or stay with your clean rooted rom. it's ok either way...the nifty thing about getting full root w/ NAND is that you can create an 'image' of you EVO. then load up the DC ROM or the Beast ROM...if you don't like it, revert back to your image and away you go. figure about 5min to create or restore from an image.
install something like adw.launcher or launcherpro and then you can actually see what breaks when your not using sense. (it is very easy, simple and non destructive to flip flop which 'application launcher' you use)
Fresh - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726090
I think Fresh may be a bit more conservative in his work than the DC team. HTC Sense will still be available on both once you are rooted and booted. it won't be until you install/use an alternate launcher that Sense widgets have issue. if you continue to use Sense then you can reinstall those component very easily.
i would suggest that you spend more time reading the Development thread. the answers ARE all here...unfortunately, threads like this one add to the overall chaos on the site. but its ok...search tools are your friend.
TJDuckett - read up on DamageControl and Fresh. Toast and Netarchy have custom kernels available. CM6 will be out soon, you will probably want to read up on it as well. use the xda search or google ( add site:xda-developers.com to your queries). good luck and enjoy.
Oh wow that's alot of good info thanks alot, i try to do as much research as possible before i post anything... one last question n i think i'll be good to go. I have a question about the flash 10.1 that's included... is it ACTUAL full flash, or is it the one that I read about on here (in the NO FROYO NEEDED! thread), that's pretty much bunk?
If it's actual, full flash, then is it one that I can just add onto what I have now?
Because, I'm running rooted 1.47.651.1 with damned near the exact same, custom theme, and don't really see the difference between what I've got and what's listed on this rom.
... definitely not trying to put down anyone's efforts, and in fact I'm asking, because it's so similar to what I'm running that it may be what I go for if it has something enticing.
Just a couple questions about some stuff.
I'm running the Cannon 2.1 rom and I really enjoy iy. I've used a couple of the Froyo roms but can't seem to get the apps to install to anywhere except the phone so I'll just stay here. Anyway..I've seen a couple of boot animations I like but they says there for a different rom..Will they work with mine??
Also....THEMES..I like new themes..I like to switch em alot but I can't really find any..Is there a thread on here I'm missing?? Maybe a website in general?? Does it have to be for my phone/rom, or just for android in general???
Thanks folks.

i might not know alot about themes and roms seeing that im very new to this.. but i like the nexus one boot screen and i downloaded a flashable signed zip from the forum and ive used it with every rom ive flashed.. ( CM6 based).. but i dont reeally think it matters!
and ive used majority of the froyo roms and most of them have the app2sd fully working .. u just goto follow instructions on how to enable it
and theres like tons of themes and such in this forum , heck just search around.. ull find so many that u wont even have time to try em all XD
as for the theme for specifics... ye i think the theme has to go for the phone.. again this is just my assumption but im just saying cause most themes are custom made for resolution specific devices... also like wvga and hwvga but meh..
try and try and try..im very positive you cant brick your phone by theming

Like Dhruv94 said, most boot animations will work with any ROM. As far as themes, you have to find a theme made for the ROM your running. Most ROMS have different framework so just any ol' theme wont work. Unless its a metamorph and it says (Will work for any 2.1 ROM) or something like that.
Ok....since I'm using the SpeedTeam 2.2 build, I would have to find a them for that one, or any one compatible with all 2.2 builds...correct?
What about the Launcher Pro..I don't really like the other one..ADW??..I just find the icons cleaner and I've had crashes before, will I have to get a theme compatible with that as well?
Sorry for the noobish questions but I'm ust to WinMo.
Thanks

No biggy, its good to ask questions when your new to things like this. As far as launcherpro, it doesnt have anything to do with any themes you will install so you dont have to wory about that. Also, alot of people that make ROM's, base there ROM's off of cyanogenmods (including speedteams i think). So if you find a theme that is made for cyanogenmod RC3 or something like that you can use it with speedteams ROM if they based theres off of cyanogenmod RC3. If you look in the first post of the thread where you found your ROM it will tell you what they based there ROM from. If i were you i would flash the new cyanogenmod RC3. Its running very good and alot of people will make themes for it. Go to cyanogenmod.com and go to dream magic themes and you'll probably find one you like. If you need any help at all just let me know.
So, I have successfully rooted my phone and gained superuser rights. This was my first time rooting a phone. So, I get the cm7 rom from cm's website I. I put it on my sd card, and I go to flash it and it gives me some sort of error... Something about verification? If anyone could help out that would be splendid.
I have a galaxy s2 t989.
Our phone isn't on cyanogen mods website so u probably got the build for the wrong phone. Ur lucky it didn't install otherwise u would have a brick right now. Get the cyanogen build from the development section of this forum

I would like good links to those too.
However, try this...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416445
It's a great Rom to hold you over for an official CM. Without trying Slayher's actual versions but reading comments I believe it might even be more stable than where he left off.

You are probably like me....
I came from the G2 and all I knew was CM7 (most roms based off cm7 in that section at that time). Once I got the Galaxy S II, I was sad that there was no completely finished and supported cm7 builds. I tried the ones mentioned and they do work for the most part but you have to turn on gps before rebooting or you lose audio in calls.
Anyways...long story short, try out some touchwizz roms. You will find that they are almost exactly like gingerbread roms from cm7. You can get a different launcher than TouchWizz (like ADW, Launcher Pro, Go, ect) and your basically there. The settings menu will look different, and some animations and tones will be a little different....(you can customize all of this stuff BTW!) but after I used it for a week I was used to it and I was over the whole Cm7 gingerbread look that I thought I had to have!
Hope this helps.
Anyways, l

hi,
i know asking what rom is better is not a good questions as it is different for different people. However, I just want to know what is the most stable, so once I flash it i dont need to keep re flashing.
I am ussualy a fan of CM and when they get stable releases I flash them and then dont need to think about it anymore. on my previous samsung galaxy S I used the CM9 RC for a long time until the stable CM9 came out and then used that.
currently there is not stable CM10 and when it comes out I will probaby use it perminently.
What JB rom can i install that will be stable to use for the next months until CM10 stable comes out?
im using stock JB right now.

ok, what the heck is BAMF i searched that in the android development and dont know what rom your talkign about
Bugless Beast, 9-27 has to new binaries and is JRO03R.

Rasbeanjelly. Its the cleanest rom ever. Fast, amazing battery life and the latest aosp source. Also the nee binaries from jro03R. You should try it. It has the power widget, lockscreen targets and some more mods. If you dont like all the blue of the icons, simply flash modstorms white mod. Flash the rom + trinity/franco. The outcome is awesome performance, no slowdowns, everything just works. No reboots and sh!t. I highly recommend it.

You've already got the most stable Jelly Bean software then
stock, are you jellin, cm10.
after those you get into roms with more features and and there tends to be little bugs that sometimes go along with them.
Nothing against the others Ive had good experiences on alot of roms but as for the MOST stable these in my opinion would be them.
Stock ROM.
Beamed from my Grouper.
ok looking into BAMF and rasbeanjelly.
another question that could help me dicide between the two. do either have the possibility to upgrade the rom on the device without a computer. so when i install it i can always have the latest version without having to keep resetting to factory settigns and wiping all the data and cache

are you sure? becuase when i was running CM9 RC2 on my old captivate, then the CM9 stable came out. I kept checking for updates in the settings and it kept saying my software was upto date. I had to download the new file and flash it again in clockwork mod.
It looks like CondemnedSoul's Kangdemnation v5 is the only ROM with the rotating softkey fix. Aeroevan's unofficial CM9 Rom used to have it but it hasn't been implemented in his past few releases. Also, the newer CM9 and CM10 Roms that have been released also don't have this fix (probably because they use Aeroevan's Rom as a base). Anyway, if someone can point me or set up a flashable zip file that we can install on top of the newer AOSP Roms, it'll be definitely appreciated! :highfive:
P.S.: I was told to put it here so excuse me if I posted the same question in another section :cyclops:

Yeah I responded to you in the other thread but that was deleted from the section. The fix you mentioned only fixes the issue with the softkey lights turning off really quickly instead of turning off when the screen turns off. It references another link where you can download some libraries but it's missing the key library to make fix the issue.
Thanks anyway!
Aero did have it working in most of the older cm9 builds and if you don't mind gb I believe he has them on his cm7.2 build. At the moment I know he is working mostly on cm10 across a few devices and he just recently got married so since the soft keys not rotating doesn't prevent them from working it is kind of far down on the list of things to work on. Just have patience I am sure they will be rotating soon enough as aero has done a fantastic job so far.
