Push email - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

So I have a TP2 on Telus, and like the "Olden days" with my moto Q I have to use telus mail for push email...
the problem with telus mail is it was written for wm5 and it crashes every once in a while.
is there another solution that I could use for push email?
Thanks

there is always a paid solution.

I spent weeks trying to use configure and use Z-Push on my Linux box, I managed to get my Gmail to push to the phone but it wasn't perfect and I could not for the life of me configure my server to relay via SMTP to gmail despite many attempts and "almost" cracking it. I gave up in the end. lol

Neo.magic, that is why I'm now setting up my own exchange server, I may need a few people to help out with monthly plans for like $5.
If you are interested let me know.

So many choices
There are many options:
The best for you would probably be Seven Beta (download the version for the HTC Touch P3450 it works perfectly)
It allows push email with the most common email providers (yahoo, gmail, etc)
There are other options as well though:
2. Windows Live = Push email if you have a Live mail account or Hotmail account. Just go to your windows live settings and under 'sync schedule' select 'as items arrive'
3. Google Sync. It uses exchange & activesync fro push Gmail. It can even sync your contacts.
One of those 3 options must work for you.
Let me know. All work great for me.

Google synch is the way forward, they support email now so job done.

Best Way To Handle Email

Hi Everyone,
There has been a lot of discussion about the best way to use email on a smartphone like the Tytn. Does everyone use the IMAP protocal for best results?
Personally, I get A LOT of mail for work and I would love to find a way to get the mail I want but not have to deal with junk mail and other emails that are automated on our side workwise.
Any suggestions?

if the email server supports IMAP then use it....
Or to get full functionality, rent an exchange server mailbox from someone like 4smartphone (for about US$50 per annum) and get push email etc.
IMAP generates a lot more traffic than POP3. Just fetching a single
mailheader (send/receive when there is 1 new mail) yields over 10 kB more
traffic in IMAP. As my one subscription is limited to 10 MB/month, thus
using POP3 makes much more sense (speed could also be an argument,
altought even in GPRS it doesn't differ that much). Conseqently, I have
different entries for the same mailbox (currently: 3 IMAP, 1 POP3).... but
this also has to do with my question:
How do you guys work with different outgoing mailservers?
I have duplicated my mail account 4 times: once for each outgoing
mailserver I want to use. I then just make sure I have selected the
correct mailbox prior to starting a new message. But this hardly is an
elegant solution (I have to fetch mails for all of the accounts to keep
them up to date). As the different mailservers have no log in, I cannot
use them when not accessing via that particular provider. I have been
looking at some mechanism to hack the hosts file, but the tool
"pockethosts" isn't very well suited for this purpose (and haven't found
anything else).

email
Hi, I'm currently using 3 email addresses on my phone plus the sync with my pc.(and home pc)
All I've come up with so far is to set all email pop/imap to only download headers, (and 2 of them only set for the last 3 days only),then I need to "select" manually what email I want to read and download them, the rest I leave for outlook to look after on my PC.
At the end of the day I finish up with a lot of "unread" emails on my phone, BUT once sync'd with pc they are all copied across anyway, just in my "outlook" folders, not my phone email accounts, if all that makes sense.
Any replies of forwards on my phone from any email includes my signature "email" that I prefer to use.
ie seperate work, personal etc
cheers

Server side filtering may be the answer for you.

gmail
I went to Gmail. Now it front-ends 4 different POP3 accounts, and with the spam protection it has it saves me from deleting a lot of crap. Only downside is that although I can read all my email on my Hermes, I can't really manage my Gmail account the way I want from the native mail client on the Hermes. No worries, I can always use the Mobile Gmail java app or go through IE to the mobile Gmail website. It's working for me...ymmv.

Exchange Server option not in Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys ROM?

Hi,
I want to connect to my work Exchange server. However, the option for Exchange is missing in the ROM. From the email setup, Pick your provider, I get Internet e-mail or Custom Domain.
There should be one for Exchange server there, but there isn't.
Can anyone help to get this option back?
Cheers
Exchange support
Hi,
Surely someone must have an answer for Exchange support?
Set it up via the ActiveSync app on your phone, not the email setup.
Cool,
Thanks. I'll try that. Just reflashing at the moment...
Works For Me
If you go into the activesync program, select menu, then select "Configure Server" you can setup your exchange server through there, works great for me, constantly synced.

Does this push your calendar to your dash as well as the email? I just purchased the G1, didn't even have it 24 hours. It certainly has some shortcomings but I was enjoying the calendar and email sync from google. Got back to my office and I was moved to the exchange server and of course no support on the android. I really like a lot of the features of my dash, but never had exchange before. I guess I am going back to it but wonder if my calendar and emails will be synced?
Yes they will. That's the whole point of a mail server like.. exchange. To sync your email !!
Yes, it does calendar too
I can confirm that the ActiveSync Exchange configuration works on the Kavana and Ricky ROMs. Not only emails, but also personal calendar items sync. Group calendar entries, however, do not sync. THIS IS NOT specific to Kavana/Ricky ROMs. It's just a feature that Microsoft left out of ActiveSync in Windows Mobile all the way up to v6.1. You should warn your Exchange support people that they should discourage group calendar use, as Microsoft incompletely implemented it. Instead, people should use the traditional invite/response system that puts calendar entries in the personal store when they are accepted.
I hear that there are third party agents that run on the Exchange server and, basically, copy group invites into all of the group members' personal stores so that ActiveSync syncs them, so if your office insists on using group calendars then they should look for one of those server add-ons.

application to setup hotmail as push mail

i successfully set up my hotmail in my X1, set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive, intending to activate push mail.
but now everytime i have new mail, i am not notified at all, not even showing of the numbers of new mails in the Today Screen.
i still need to manually go Menu > Send/Receive to update my mailbox.
any1 got solution or what application i need install?
thanks
yes: GMAIL lol
This would be a workaround, but it would work.
1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Forward your Hotmail to Gmail.
3. Set up your Gmail so that you can reply using your Hotmail account. (yeah you can do that...nifty eh?)
4. Go to your Outlook on your phone and set up "gmail-sync" as your push mail account to retrieve from. It's in beta right now but is working 100% perfectly on my Kaiser. (I'm in here because I'm getting a SEX1 in a couple days ) I frickin' LOVE IT - it pushes IMMEDIATELY as soon as the mail comes in. Instructions here:
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
5. Now all your e-mails will be stored to your phone permanently too, instead of the inbox getting wiped every time you send receive, or whenever you have your timing set up for that.
6. Forget about Hotmail and start using Gmail lol. Just kidding...but if you set it up that way, you can still use your Hotmail completely, Gmail will be practically invisible to you. (Or is it the other way around? lol)
Seriously, Google's free push e-mail service is amaaazing. I am LOVING it.
ohhh pls tell me how to fwd mails
in aol /hotmail pls
Syncing frequency to As Items Arrive works perfectly for me.
I confirm that both hotmail and gmail works as a push mail on my XPERIA.
For hotmail, you can just use windows live connection setup and choose/set "as items arrive" and set the time as "always". For gmail, you can use the activesync feature on outlook mobile as have been told by deezy7 above.
Or else, you can use the feature from Emoze service.
hi all.
thanks for ur advices.
i did add my hotmail using the Windows Live program, did set to "as items arrive" and did set for "always"
but nothing ever appear in my pjone for new mail unless i do it manually using "send/receive"
i prefer to use my hotmail acc ley.
any1 pls help mi.
thanks

If you would like to have a free account for push mail service you should try Emoze. I have been playing with Emoze and honestly it helps me much to get my XPERIA have numerous mail account which works as a push mail ....
Ok, I did some workaround, created another gmail account and forwarded all my accounts to that one, and I receiving only that one.
Maybe not the best solution , but I prefer not to use online services like mobipush and such where u leave them your user name and password for each account u have...
As an alternative to Emoze i use Seven Beta. It provides near realtime push on most types of account.

Hey icbicb, in response to your other question as well, my suggestion would have been to do what you already did, which is create another gmail acccount I also prefer not to use any other online services, and was very happy when Google came out with Gmail Sync, since I've already been using my gmail account for five years, and don't have to give out sensitive information to yet another company
To those here using other services, I'd suggest you give Gmail Sync a try. Deedee, I noticed you said that Seven Beta provides you with near realtime push. I've noticed with Gmail Sync, and having my Gmail open at the same time on my pc at work, that Gmail Sync pushes in actual realtime! I'll hear the notification on my phone first before my page refreshes to show me my new e-mail! Also, I should mention that I am using gmail plug-ins to autoupdate the screen when new e-mails come in, and the Gmail sync sends them to my phone simultaneously or even before my page refreshes, thus, I know that it is actual real-time. Just like blackberry's service! I'm in love with it right now
icbicb, I'm glad it's working out for you , loyjwe I hope you are able to give this a try...
it's a good solution, but if i transfert the mail from hotmail to gmail they will be of the hotmail box...
And it's a probleme for me...
do you have a solution for that
(excus me for my bad english)
Big advantage of Seven Beta is that it works for almost all POP3/IMAP email systems and it keeps all the accounts separate so that replies from your PPC keep the correct return address.
I have it working on Gmail x 2, Hotmail and a POP3 account and all four accounts are independant of each other.
I said near real time sync as i didn't want to claim real time in case it wasn't. I rarely use the web interface since starting Seven so haven't been in a position to check. As i tell the BB users at work if you have time to compare the two delivery times then maybe you don't need a BB.

Hi titeloo...bad english is okay lol, but, I don't really understand what you mean by "they will be of the hotmail box..." need further explanation!!
@Deedee, gmail does that also....so... for example, when you get mail forwarded to your gmail account, if it was originally sent to your hotmail account, when you reply on the phone, it will reply from the hotmail account. Gmail's set up pretty good that way. I believe right now though they have a limit on the number of accounts you can send mail from, not sure if it is 3 or 4. So it's pretty neat that Seven Beta keeps all accounts separate ...btw very nice avatar
Seven is only restricted by the number of accounts that can be set up in WM, think it's 8 in total, that includes your ActiveSync/Exchange and SMS accounts.
Thanks for the compliment. Always prefer to use real piccies for avatars where practical.

Mobile Outlook/ free Yahoo! Mail Account configuration

My first post but not new to this site or wonderful community..
Here's my dilemma (I performed a search but couldn't find the answer I was looking for)
On my TP2, I'm trying to configure Outlook email (push service) using my free Yahoo email account, circumventing the process of signing up for a Premium paid service with Yahoo.
The standard email service on WM just does not cut it for me; I need to receive real-time push notifications.
I hear that this can be done with specific settings. I was able to accomplish that using my free gmail account on my old Iphone. Blackberries can be configured with no problems as well.
Any ideas, tips, tricks and direction to the right place?
Sign up for the Seven beta. It'll give you push email service for Yahoo basic. Works most of the time, but since it's beta, the service can go down once in a while. So not a great option if it's mission critical.

Windows Mobile supports push-email natively only if you use Microsoft Exchange or Windows Live (i.e. Hotmail). So, if you don't want to use any 3rd party software, you can do the following:
1. Set up your Windows Live email and set to sync as items arrive.
2. Set your Yahoo account to forward all emails automatically to your Windows Live account.
Downside is, it's tedious to reply to emails with your Yahoo account. You'll see the email in your Windows Live account. Then you have to pull the email from your Yahoo account and reply to it there.
Alternatively, you can pay for an Exchange service that allows you to change the "From" field.
Thanks for responding all:
@ vudo: Can you elaborate on this beta Seven service that you speak of?
@ ohyeahar: What domain and server address do I use when setting up my Live account?
Try these settings
Hotmail (when setting it up, intentionally misspell it so it doesnt redirect you to Windows live..)
-so.. put in [email protected]
Then manually enter these settings
POP = pop3.live.com
SMTP = smtp.live.com
GMAIL
POP = pop.gmail.com
SMTP = smtp.gmail.com
Yahoo
IMAP = imap.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP = smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
If you do it myknyte's way, you will not get push email for your Windows Live account.
You need to set it up via the Windows Live app. Just launch the app. It's very self-explanatory. If you don't have the app (for whatever reason), it's available on the Marketplace.

Go to www dot seven dot com and sign up for their bera program. You then set up your email accounts thru their service and it will push the emails to you. Another benefit is that your email accounts are saved, so if you flash a new rom, you dont have to type in the settings again. Note though that once you have it installed, any new email account gets added through the Seven service.

Multiple Exchange servers

Hi,
I'll be receiving my new toy next week and after being a HD2 user and growing tired of winmo I was hoping to have multiple exchange server support on the Desire.
According to android this is possible from 2.0.
However it seems HTC has disabled the function and only allows 1 exchange server to be entered.
My main reason for this setup would be to have my work e-mail and my google account ( mail/contact/calendar ) simultaniously on the phone.
Anybody got an idea how to get this working?
Perhaps a different app than the HTC mail application?
Any hints/tips would be appreciated
re: multiple Exchange server support
dirk07,
As far as I can see, there is no option for setting up more than one Exchange server in the Desire. As soon as you set up one Exchange account, when you try to add another account, "Exchange" is no longer in the list of options. However, you *can* have both Exchange and Gmail and numerous other mail accounts set up at the same time, which sounds like it would work for you. You normally would not access your Google account as an Exchange server, would you?
John
True..
However the reason I want to sync my gmail with exchange is cause I also need my contacts and calendar from them..
the work e-mail would need to be exchange as it is the only way I can reach it .. ( no imap/pop access )
Would it be possilbe when disableing sense?
or use something else to sync contacts/calendar?
Your contacts and calendar will come over automatically from your Google account (when you set up the phone, you provide your Google account details). You don't need anything related to Exchange to make your Google stuff synch - that is built into Android. I have a setup just like you, my work email comes across via Exchange, and the Google stuff comes across as well (contacts/calendar/mail) via the Google account setup on the phone.
John
Syncing contacts with more than one source is always a bad idea. I tried this on WinMo with exchange and windows live and found a couple of issues which you are likely to run into with exchange/gmail sync. They are:
1) Exchange sees the entries from live as unique, different entries resulting in duplicate contacts.
2) If you delete an entry from one source, it gets 'revived' when next sync with the other source.
There may be fixes for these issues now but I gave up on it long ago and use my exchange contacts folder as the source of truth.
Im pretty sure you would have experienced these problems before... just adding my 2p
Edit: forgot to mention - without sense, I don't even think you can sync contacts?? Anyone confirm?
@bcmobile
well i would only be syncing mail from one source and mail/contacts/calendar from another
I allready make a point of only keeping my contacts/calendar on one list so I dont get duplicates etc..
@jstegeman
I hope this works If google mail/contacts/calendar syncs by default I indeed would be able to add work mail as my one exchange source..
Guess I wont be able to test untill friday
you can definately have both setup i.e. exchange / gmail as i have. I only have contacts in exchange though. I have also setup gmail so can see emails from there also.
OK guys i thought i would summarise my battle with the energy ROM and activesync/sense 2.5 for my hd2
Previous i had o2 Uk's stock rom, it was ok, but my main mod was to pull email, contacts and calendar off my exchange server and sync the calendar and contacts with my google account through activesync. I used the EnableNonLocalCrossPolination method (ENLCP)to do this.
When i install this ROM i had one problem, the registry key ENLCP was not there. So i entered it and attempted the same trick. However sense would not let me add another activesync account.
Firstly i wiped the phone, then i went in and pair my phone with activesync on my pc. This would enable the ENLCP reg key that i was looking for. I then disconnected the phone, checked the ENLCP reg key on the phone, set it to 1, and then deleted the PC active sync profile on the phone and pc.
After another soft reset i disable sense from the home screen. Another soft reset.
On the next boot i enter the options for googles exchange server (m.google.com) and only ticked the contacts. These sync'd ok. I think enter microsofts email client and enter the 2nd exchange server. Here i only set it to sync my email. I then tested both exchange servers in activesync. They worked!
So i enabled calendar and contacts on both exchange servers and only email on one of them. This again sync'd great. I re-enalbed sense and did another soft reset for good measure.
Sense picked up the email exchange server, but not the google one! Great! Now i add the googlemail email as an imap account through sense and i am done.
Hopefully this helps someone as i have initially struggled with this ROM.
