Camera focus tweak - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Tab once to focus the lens then tap a second time to actually take the pic. Is there anyway to achieve this? I think the TP1 could do this, right? This would be a great feature/tweak.

If I remember correctly, TP1 didn't have the "tap the screen to focus" feature (at least, I'm sure it could only focus on the center point). It did, though, have the option to focus when a finger was detected on the capacitive d-pad center and take the picture only when the user actually pressed the button. Maybe you were thinking of this feature (or maybe I just remember wrong )?
Anyways, I too think this would be a great idea. Too bad I have no idea how to implement it myself

Yes, that's exactly the feature I'm referring to. Maybe someone with better insight than me can figure out an equivalent method on the TP2. Thanks for the reply.

It can be done, but it's difficult as the camera app has a tendancy to close itself when minimised. You'll need an always on top app to force it minimised. It'd be easier to write your own camera/video app.

I think it is possible with Handyswitcher...

there could be some reasons why its in caps AND YA HOW IS IT BOTHERING U
ANY WAYS U COULD NOT HELP ME
I think my suggestions to you, both with respect to your obvious lack of regard for other people reading your semi-literate posts, and in relation to minimising the camera, are realistic. I've done quite a lot of research on tweaking the camera app, and thereby wrote VJLumos, VJLumos II, VJCandela and VJCandela Lite.
The camera can be minimised, but it requires a specific type of task manager, and/or API hacking, or alternatively writing your own camera application.

Start the camera going then using a small toffee hammer, lightly tap the screen about 6-7 times. Once you have wiped away the bits of glass you will see that no one will ever know you are recording them.

Htc stop implementing the hard zoom feature in your phones!

I Dont know about you guys but I really hate the built in zoom feature on all of the new htc phones. To me it is a waste of space that could have better implemented with a Dpad. I hardly ever use it and it doesnt even work for very many things except the web browser. I see htc messing up all of their new good phones with it.
I see it as a waste of space. I see myself missing a dpad or scroll ball a lot more than I even think about the zoom option.
How do you feel?
I have two gripes about the TP2 hardware:
No scroll wheel or D-pad for ease of navigation
Seidio doesn't have a spring-clip holster yet
Does it work on word or excel?
Yep it does work with excel, word, pictures, internet....
I use the bar all the time, just love it.
So HTC: Please keep the zoom-bar!!
Don't use the zoom a lot, but it does work great when I do...
Would like to change it into dpad though! (Zooming can be achieved by other means)
Well I can think off cool games with throttle.
But other then that, the zoombar just doesn't work to well for me. If it did work well, more fluent I would like to keep it. It's nice to zoom in a little bit on webpages, and not to far like what happens when you double tab in opera.
Well, I'd like to have a D-pad (because it's handy in games) but I don't have a problem with the zoom bar on my TP2. I'd like both, really. My only gripe is that too few applications support the zoombar. If Opera 9.7 beta supported it I'd stop using 9.5 altogether, but because it doesn't I still use both.
That said, iPhone-style multi-touch pinch-zooming is a MUCH better solution, and I'm looking forward to trying out the Leo.

I checked this out. I've already got the registry setting in question, but the zoom bar doesn't do anything in Opera 9.7. So.... (shrug)

3. Location of the power button gets in the way of typing at times. I have the powerkey fix by one of the xda members but its still a pita at times.
I havent really used the zoom bar but its koo. Im with shasarak far as the dpads & games.
Hi All
I have made this mention in another post, but to me at least, what we need is a reg hack that will allow the Zoom Bar to work with more apps, not just Album, Etc.
Now THAT would be worth having.......
Imagine being able to add whatever App you like to the Zoom Bar Active list,
even just to zoom the screen of any app or function would be a bonus too!
Sort of like with the G-Sensor hacks.
Maybe someone will find a way...??
Cheers

I agree. The zoom bar is retarded and serve 0 purpose at all.
I love the zoom bar. Use it all the time. Especially useful for navigating forums like XDA! Maybe my fingers too fat always cannot hit the number to navigate to the next page, even after double-tap. So always use zoom bar to zoom big big so that I can tap on the link.
Can the Opera be updated in the VZW TP2? I thought it was hardcoded into the ROM.

yeah that is true but a dpad would make it even easier to select small text w/ out having to zoom in and out all of the time.
I LOVE the zoom bar, but miss the scroll wheel of my Titan and my Clie's. So I'd like both please. the d-pad... eh? Don't really see a need. There is a keyboard with arrow keys if need be.
The d-pad is important for one handed use. Besides, if you want the 'already there' argument, opera already has a built in software zoom bar. and it work just the same.
Coming from the g-1, I really miss the little trackball. It was such an excellent feature to have. It was small precise, and it didn't take up too much room on the device either. I think that would have fit nicely on the tp2.

Enter button works for taking pictures!...& a camera question

I know a lot of people have been wishing for a hardware key for snapping pics and I have found that the enter key does the trick!
Question:
I've been a little annoyed with the camera speed lately so in a desperate attempt I'm wondering if copy n pasting the camera from the HTC Touch would speed things up(or break it) or is it all hardware/OS related?
It works !
Thanks for that.
Can't imagine you'll physically break your phone by installing a cab. Surely the worst that could happen is a hard reset, although I doubt it'd even get that far

Copying the camera executable from the HTC Touch wouldn't work. It's dependant on several other things, and probably would display wierd if at all, because of the drastically different screen sizes. It'd kinda be like trying to replace a car's tire with a bicycle wheel.
I've got my camera mapped to the PTT key, so I can use the key to open it and then press it again to take the pic.

I'm a Verizon user so sadly(sorta) lol we dont get a push to talk key. N oh yeah I forgot about the differnt resolutions. Anyone know of any camera snapping apps for WVGA resolution? The camera is so slow and the link to HTC album is embrassing with the slow pic loading speed. I'd rather use Resco's snappier Photo Viewer
In the dumbest post ever I just today realized I spelled my username wrong when I registered. Firefox always logs me in automatically so I've never noticed

Oh no thank you! The star button is always forgotten lol
more keyboard camera buttons
Sorry if its already been mentioned elsewhere, but I just noticed that on my TouchPro2 the arrow buttons cycle through all the different modes (photo, video, panorama, etc)!
This, plus Star Button=start camera and Enter=shutter makes it a perfect trifecta of keyboard excellence for camera users
Thanks for the 'Enter' find!
How/Is there a way to map it to a hardware key though? I'd love to be able to just press 'volume up' to take the picture when in camera mode.

Geotagging photos

Does the HTC TP2 come with software that geotags photos (adds lat long GPS data to jpg) ? I cannot seem to find this function?
If not any good solutions?
In the camera app, click the menu icon (lower right corner when held in landscape mode), then the camera icon. This should bring up the Capture Mode menu -- hit Next, then GPS Photo. This will turn on the GPS receiver and will place the GPS co-ordinates into the picture's EXIF data.
You may need to install the 'Enable_All_Camera_Modes.CAB'.
So, once you Geotag a photo, what good is that?
I did it a few times, but you have to wait for a GPS connection before you can take the photo. It was annoying and I couldn't find any reason to even do it.
Setting GPS Mode on the camera is one good option, albiet sometimes it can be tedious waiting for it to lock to take a quick shot.
GPSToday can also geotag images in the background automatically or on-demand after taking the shot. Also does a horde of other cool stuff.

Thanks. Seems like my HTC TP2 came with no software to do this. I guess I will try GPS today and Enable_All_Camera_Modes.CAB when I can find them to download.
I find geotagging a useful tool as I often need to share photo locations with colleagues at work either using Google Earth or some other photo location display. I'd have thought HTC would have built this in when I bought the device but guess not.

It is built in. The 'enable all modes' CAB file turns it on. Not sure why they disabled it.
So where's the 'enable all modes' cab file located....can't find it??

[REQUEST] Glowing 4 bottom buttons on SMS/other

Hey all, Ive been thinking about what i miss about my pre, and besides the obvious wireless charging (one can dream, right) touchstone, the one other thing i miss the most is the glowing of the trackball device at the bottom of the phone for a notification.
Now i know there are many people who have WIMAX Notifier and will say to use that, but i really dont like it as much as a more behind the scenes and clean look, and W.N. keeps crashing and is really buggy.
My app idea would incorporate the 4 buttons at the bottom using different patterns for different notifications.
Ex:
Text: Glow all 4 slow
Email: Run from right to left back to right and repeat. (8 secs for one rotation)
Missed call: Glow only home
etc.
I searched and was not able to find anyone in the developing stages of an app for this. I would be more than happy to assist with the coding, but i have no programs or anything downloaded so far, and dont really have any idea what im doing, though i do know C, Java, & C++ a bit and can learn coding quickly.
Any idea on if this could be made to work, im pretty sure there has to be a way the light sensor sends a signal to the mocrocontroller to light the keys, but can it be done independently, outside of that code section? Any words of where to start with development of this app?
Thanks for the advice, please keep it relavent and to the point, i would REALLY like to make this a reality. Also please link me to any current development on this if you can find any.\
PS. I have an evo 4g, but i assume this would be a global android app.
PPS. Dont let my 2 post count dissuade you from the ferver i have to make this app a reality. I dont post a ton, but i am very serious about creating/developing this app with some help.

Right, which are not clean at all. I want a more subtle item that is similar to the pre functionality.
Thanks for the clarification, ive been looking forever and couldnt find what i was looking for.
I think that is a great idea and would look cool as hell. Try making a quick flash demo to illustrate your idea. I'm with you and can definately visualize it but, maybe others can't. Don't give up, it's a great idea.

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea having the 4 bottom capacitive buttons blinking/flashing/glowing for notifications. I would definitely pay for this.
The number one thing I miss about my Nexus One (which I sold back in May) is the trackball notifications where it would glow different colors. Getting the 4 bottom buttons to glow/flash would suffice for me. $10 bounty pledged by me!
This would be such an awesome app...
Alright guys it sounds like there is an interest in making this happen. I will start to look into what it will take for the process to begin.
Stage 1: Getting a coding program installed and getting the HTC Sense open source code to start looking into the light sensor callout for hints of making the bottom LED's come on.
I am committed to this one guys! Sounds like there is a definate want for it thus far.
Good luck man...with all the devs have done with this device, I dont see why this wouldnt be possible.
Btw.... shouldnt this thread be in Apps/Themes section?
sent from EVO with XDA app.
This sounds great!
Alright guys, small update, got the software downloaded and the code/sdk for android 2.2. Wasnt motivated enough to put on my nerd hat and get into the code and start searching out the specific lines im looking for. The good news is I have a flow chart laid out for the notification in each scenario.
Gotta figure out how to ensure the program boots on startup and continues working until force closed.
I will be starting with Froyo, and will move it back to 2.1 eventually. My primary focus will be 2.2 on the Evo.
Welp guys i spent 10+ hours this weekend just to figure out that those LED's are only allowed control when the screen is on. This app is not possible without a significantly more experienced developer, who could make the screen control independent of the LED's. Given my little experience this has become too difficult for me to handle. I will sell my idea for free though!
Thanks for trying, would def be awesome if someone could come up with this. My old samsung instinct use to light up the bottom when it had messages, being that it was a samsung as well, I would *think* (i'm not developer) that there are def ppl with the skills to figure this out .... eventually =) thanks for trying....
