It can be done, but it's difficult as the camera app has a tendancy to close itself when minimised. You'll need an always on top app to force it minimised. It'd be easier to write your own camera/video app.

I think it is possible with Handyswitcher...

ANY WAYS U COULD NOT HELP ME
I think my suggestions to you, both with respect to your obvious lack of regard for other people reading your semi-literate posts, and in relation to minimising the camera, are realistic. I've done quite a lot of research on tweaking the camera app, and thereby wrote VJLumos, VJLumos II, VJCandela and VJCandela Lite.
The camera can be minimised, but it requires a specific type of task manager, and/or API hacking, or alternatively writing your own camera application.

Start the camera going then using a small toffee hammer, lightly tap the screen about 6-7 times. Once you have wiped away the bits of glass you will see that no one will ever know you are recording them.

Perhaps I'm being a numpty, but I can't get the camera to save pictures!
I start the camera, zoom, focus and press the button. The viewfinder freezes for a second and then the toolbar appears at the bottom, giving me all options except saving the picture. A quick view in the My Picture folders doesn't yield a picture. If they are saved where are they and if not saved, then what is going on?

The camera in B&B4 is pretty much screwed beyond use. Tom is too busy making money from the sycophants by writing the next ROM to do anything to fix this one, which has a list of problems as long as the contributors to his Pay-Pal account. If you want touch-Flo though it is about the best your going to get.
The flo thingy is ok, but not enough to get pants all knotted about. The camera would be useful to make best use of the picture contacts facility. I never used the camera much anyway as it wasn't that good. I suppose I can take piccies on a proper camera and pop them onto the card.....no huge loss really.

hello,
i have also a orbit and i can save my fotos on the storage card. There is a new folder called DCIM. The fotos and videos will be storaged there.
I have the same problem if i want to save a contact foto. this function doesn`t work.
But you can shot a normal foto and select this in pocketcm as contact foto.

no sry, he is right.
its not like the camera bugs are minor things. these are major bugs, which are really annoying.
and yet, in the B&B 4 Thread, tom never replied to a post where something with the camera was mentioned. (correct me if i'm mistaken, but i read all 100 pages).
And now hes doing a new rom, so i don't see a fix for B&B 4 coming :-/

I did install B&B4, I don't have it on now. And I did think about my comments. As for complaining my ass off, no, I don't think so. There is more I could complain about, much more, like the transcriber being missing, but won't because it is no longer a concern of mine.
I have respect for Tom for what he does but his latest ROM was rushed out, not fully tested, among shouts from people that they would donate if he got a Touch-Flo version out, other Touch-Flo ROMs were appearing, but were full of other stuff not everyone wanted and with minor operating problems like the 'X' close button not working etc. So people screamed for Tom's next ROM, and out it came. Complete with all the bugs reported so far.
If Tom chooses not to fix the bugs then that is fine by me, I can't use his ROMs if features of my device that I want to use don't work right. But Tom needs to be careful, up until recently all his efforts were for the community you want to build, but money can skew people without them realising it is happening. Perhaps if he sorted the bugs out then started looking for donations again....
no problems here...
@ Fucawi: Did you set your camera to save your pictures on your card? Then look in \Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA.
@ MaskedMarauder: For some people not being able to save the pic as a contact pic isn't the end of the world. Thusfar the B&B rom has been working fine with a few minor bugs. Personally I think your comment about Tom going for the money and not solving your problem is pretty cheap.
-Hans
This bug isn't reported entirely correctly, the camera does save pictures but only at the highest resolution. If you try and reduce the res then it doesn't save them. To be fair though if you really want a camera on your phone get a sony ericsson as HTC cameras are rubbish! Perhaps the fact that Tom is working on a new ROM suggests that he is going to implement all the fixes found for v4.0 in the new one therefore creating a fixed ROM... just a thought.

Right, of them is about 75% who refuse to read the first 1000+ posts, so they ask the same questions others have asked and resolved before, the other ones are in my opinion mostly pretty minor or feature requests.

Equally a lot of the posts are people who haven't search for an answer or don't know how to flash a rom to their device.
I'll admit that tom's rom isn't faultless but compared to the dire GPRS issues in the Dopod rom and the general lack of anything exciting in the O2 rom it is still the best out there - unless of course you want your camera to work
The whole thing with the camera is a shame as the new camera looked nice with a clean interface, it is just a pity it does not work on anything but the basic setting.
And for the record the reason I gave up on B&B 4 was that I was having to continually hard-reset my device at least every other day. I did not go on about it, I just will wait the next version, put it on and see if it works.
I agree with MaskedMarauder
bb4 is full of minor faults.
and i just saw that Tom isn't going to repair all those faults.
that's why i go back to version v3.0
the last one that worked like it should have to.
And Tom never reply's when people ask him about the camera problems or other problems.
It's a pity.
Not having the contacts picture facility is not the end of the world and I have made do with the normal camera and save piccies to contacts. There were other niggles on the v4.0 ROM that made me try the v3.7 and the O2 WM6 ROM and I think that the BB v3.7 was the best of the bunch. They all suffered from an inability to turn off the WiFi from the top toolbar and v4.0 needed to have a soft reset to get the GPRS sync started in the morning. So I will reinstall v3.7 and run it for a few days.
I liked the clock face and the contacts, weather and other HTC toys, but could do with a blue colour rather than black (does this only require a .rar file?) and a reliable GPRS sync connection (no issues on WM5 O2 settings).
Keep up the good work.

It also has to do with people not knowing how the search function works too and getting so many hits across all the forums that they give up with it.
Hi, any one know why my clock constantly slows down and I need to set the time again ? It is not an active sych issue... it just slows down.. looses time..
Everything seems to be working other than that on my arte110....
But.. the touch cube/ flow stuff... would be nice if there was some instructionst on that because I dont see any of that happening on my phone even though I got it set to default in the touch flow settings....
No animated cubes or other stuff inn navigation.... Not sure what it is exactly supposed to look like...
the only animated feature is the contact list and the opera mini , as a page loade it slides in... cool,
But other than that opera mini sucks...
it can hardly search this forum.....
and no tabbed browsing or selecting, copying text...
it is however very fast.
And isnt there some sort of function holding down the buttons to the phone vibrates? Would be nice to know about how that works....
Zoom on the camera doesnt work at 2 mp setting...
media player part of the home screen seems non functional...
And what is this hibernation feature?
BTW, it seems that when my screen is dark the phone stops keeping time...
I hope I am not missing any calls durring this time....

Frees up extra ram, that is all
You just need to take the time to explore the features this ROM has, there are a lot of applications included, some may not be to your taste, and others you'll think are fantastic(like hbutton), if there is a specific application you need to find more about, try searching through the forums or on google, there is a lot of information out there regarding most of the applications, unfortunately we can't expect Meschle to produce a lengthy instruction manual detailing each and every single aspect of his ROM, part of that is the expectation that the people using custom ROM's should be able to figure out the nitty gritty details.
Of course the forums are here to answer questions, but it is also a repository of answers to the questions already asked. The TouchFlo one has come up many times.
I Dont know about you guys but I really hate the built in zoom feature on all of the new htc phones. To me it is a waste of space that could have better implemented with a Dpad. I hardly ever use it and it doesnt even work for very many things except the web browser. I see htc messing up all of their new good phones with it.
I see it as a waste of space. I see myself missing a dpad or scroll ball a lot more than I even think about the zoom option.
How do you feel?
I have two gripes about the TP2 hardware:
No scroll wheel or D-pad for ease of navigation
Seidio doesn't have a spring-clip holster yet
Does it work on word or excel?
Yep it does work with excel, word, pictures, internet....
I use the bar all the time, just love it.
So HTC: Please keep the zoom-bar!!
Don't use the zoom a lot, but it does work great when I do...
Would like to change it into dpad though! (Zooming can be achieved by other means)
Well I can think off cool games with throttle.
But other then that, the zoombar just doesn't work to well for me. If it did work well, more fluent I would like to keep it. It's nice to zoom in a little bit on webpages, and not to far like what happens when you double tab in opera.
Well, I'd like to have a D-pad (because it's handy in games) but I don't have a problem with the zoom bar on my TP2. I'd like both, really. My only gripe is that too few applications support the zoombar. If Opera 9.7 beta supported it I'd stop using 9.5 altogether, but because it doesn't I still use both.
That said, iPhone-style multi-touch pinch-zooming is a MUCH better solution, and I'm looking forward to trying out the Leo.

3. Location of the power button gets in the way of typing at times. I have the powerkey fix by one of the xda members but its still a pita at times.

Hi All
I have made this mention in another post, but to me at least, what we need is a reg hack that will allow the Zoom Bar to work with more apps, not just Album, Etc.
Now THAT would be worth having.......
Imagine being able to add whatever App you like to the Zoom Bar Active list,
even just to zoom the screen of any app or function would be a bonus too!
Sort of like with the G-Sensor hacks.
Maybe someone will find a way...??
Cheers

I agree. The zoom bar is retarded and serve 0 purpose at all.
I love the zoom bar. Use it all the time. Especially useful for navigating forums like XDA! Maybe my fingers too fat always cannot hit the number to navigate to the next page, even after double-tap. So always use zoom bar to zoom big big so that I can tap on the link.
Can the Opera be updated in the VZW TP2? I thought it was hardcoded into the ROM.

yeah that is true but a dpad would make it even easier to select small text w/ out having to zoom in and out all of the time.
I LOVE the zoom bar, but miss the scroll wheel of my Titan and my Clie's. So I'd like both please. the d-pad... eh? Don't really see a need. There is a keyboard with arrow keys if need be.
The d-pad is important for one handed use. Besides, if you want the 'already there' argument, opera already has a built in software zoom bar. and it work just the same.
Coming from the g-1, I really miss the little trackball. It was such an excellent feature to have. It was small precise, and it didn't take up too much room on the device either. I think that would have fit nicely on the tp2.
I know a lot of people have been wishing for a hardware key for snapping pics and I have found that the enter key does the trick!
Question:
I've been a little annoyed with the camera speed lately so in a desperate attempt I'm wondering if copy n pasting the camera from the HTC Touch would speed things up(or break it) or is it all hardware/OS related?
It works !
Thanks for that.
Can't imagine you'll physically break your phone by installing a cab. Surely the worst that could happen is a hard reset, although I doubt it'd even get that far

Copying the camera executable from the HTC Touch wouldn't work. It's dependant on several other things, and probably would display wierd if at all, because of the drastically different screen sizes. It'd kinda be like trying to replace a car's tire with a bicycle wheel.
I've got my camera mapped to the PTT key, so I can use the key to open it and then press it again to take the pic.

I'm a Verizon user so sadly(sorta) lol we dont get a push to talk key. N oh yeah I forgot about the differnt resolutions. Anyone know of any camera snapping apps for WVGA resolution? The camera is so slow and the link to HTC album is embrassing with the slow pic loading speed. I'd rather use Resco's snappier Photo Viewer
In the dumbest post ever I just today realized I spelled my username wrong when I registered. Firefox always logs me in automatically so I've never noticed

Sorry if its already been mentioned elsewhere, but I just noticed that on my TouchPro2 the arrow buttons cycle through all the different modes (photo, video, panorama, etc)!
This, plus Star Button=start camera and Enter=shutter makes it a perfect trifecta of keyboard excellence for camera users
Thanks for the 'Enter' find!
How/Is there a way to map it to a hardware key though? I'd love to be able to just press 'volume up' to take the picture when in camera mode.

Well basically any I imagine possibly because it's my device and I want to use it how I want it,
like viewing photo from different angles instead of device deciding for me how I should watch this.
All the automatic processes are always buggy to some extent. I want to be the only deciding factor to it.
This should be available to anybody who wants this feature
and possible for beeing disabled by the user whenever one wants to.

I would suggest using a device before declaring it buggy. Yea, it's been buggy on WinMo but all of WinMo has been buggy. There very well may be a "disable accelerometer" option. Not sure, I haven't seen it.

For instance while reading in bed. Apple added it in iOS4 as it was a strong request from the community.
Nice feature if you ask me, as developers don't need to provide a "switch" it within their apps

Agreed, happens often enough. It'd be a nice plus to the OS, allthough not at all required.
Rotation is defined on a application level:
Code:
<phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage x:Class="PhoneApplication1.MainPage"
SupportedOrientations="PortraitOrLandscape"
