Guys, I need a bit of help before I decide whether or not to exchange my device. I have a slight squeak so I want to see if you guys can reproduce it. Close your device, now, push down on the corner where the end key is, below and to the right of the end key. This is on the T-Mobile version by the way. Tell me if you hear a slight creek or squeak. If you do, I guess its the device's fault, if not, I have a bad one. Thank you, I just want to see if its worth it.
Mine does the same. Simply us normal because the alowance needed for the keyboard to slide. Because of that and the joints used, it's normal that small plastic sounds appear. Nothing to bother...

Anyone that has the xda2s, are you having problems with the slide down keyboard? Mine has gradually worked loose and seems very unstable. The top part of the device rocks side to side , and sometimes gets stuck when opening and makes nasty cruching noice ---- Its starting to worry me, anyone got any good tips?
Thanks
Mike
Just send it to service, not much else to do.
Ok, since posting this i found a topic about opening the XDA2s up and fiddleing around to tighten it up. Does anyone know how easy this process is? Seems quite scary and am not sure whther i should attempt this....
It's only scary the first time. Once you're not a virgin anymore, you'll feel comfortable doing it over and over again. Just don't turn into a slut .
Some things to consider. Use the correct tools for the job. Once the screws get stripped, your SOL. Oh, don't be such in a hurry to take it apart once you get the screws out. Remember to take pics, or if you are good with memory, remember where everything was originally placed. Especially the screws. Had to slap myself a few times for not remembering the screw placement.
i just had my housing recently replaced coz i dropped and scratched it. the keyboard frame + the backside of the front face is considered under warranty. the repair center diagnosed its looseness as "faulty mechanical".
Execellent, in that case im sending mine back so they can fix it! Better than cocking things up my-self!
Hi guys
Got my replacement TP2. Screen protector went on perfectly .... ahhhhh
Installed and got radio app ... and it works well - thanks
I love the device .... the display is something else.
My only concern relates to the keyboard mechanism.
When closed, the leading edge (left edge of the phone with it in front of you) has some give in it and when you tap the screen on the left side you can feel the bounce (a little knock sensation).
I don't remember this on the first one, but I didn't really get time to play with it before it went back.
I'm comparing the mechanism with the TyTNII ... and there is something in the TyTNII construction that doesn't exist on the TP2. Front to back on both sides is a slippery plastic 'runner' that is about 1.5mm high. This ensures the mech slides at an even height as it closes. The TP2 doesn't have this and is therefore 'hinged' on the right hand side ... suggesting this give ... and therefore bouncing / knocking will be inevitable.
What are you guys seeing ?
Also ... my original TP2 had plastic film down the sides of the keyboard and across the back of the keyboard .... the new one has them on both sides but not at the back ... which is a puzzle ... I assumed they were there to minimise scratching from the mechanism movement ... particularly important with the 'give' that seems inevitable by this different design.
Paul.
Sorry about the bounce, but I need to know from all those that have got a TP2 whether or not they are experiencing the same bounce on the left side as I am.
Without that I can't take a decision between keep, exchange (reluctant as the rest of the device is perfect and I don't want to end up with some other issues on a new device) or send for repair (probably the worst scenario.
Please let me know.
Paul.
Mine "bounced" a little... but i think that's because it's a sliding keyboard ... and it's not clearly noticable...
by the way, i already lost one of the film-plastic pieces you're talking about... hope it don't harms the paint
Mines fine, no bounce at all
Thanks guys
Looks like it maybe a tolerance issue .... any other responses hugely appreciated.
Paul.
No bounce on mine either and I've only just noticed those little pieces of film, one of mine looks like it will be coming loose very soon.
mine bounces.
just noticed it, and then returned to this thread where i remember you talkin about bouncing edge.
perhaps im being overly concerned though. (....but if anyone else tries exchanging theirs because its bouncing, then so am I!)
The bouncing makes interacting with the device so distracting.
It's a real pain. It concerns me that given there are no raised sliders running down the sides of the keyboard as there were on the TyTNII, even if the device isn't like this as new ... the constant stresses on the mech from opening / closing and simply tapping the screen will result in all the devices getting it sooner or later.
I'm not looking forward to trying to get an exchange or refund. Suppliers understandably never like dealing with repeating issues ... and never seem to push back the problems on the manufacturer. HTC responded very quickly saying ... sorry you are having problems ... you can send it in for repair anytime in the 24 month warranty ... but I don't want a 'repaired' brand new device.
I've already stuck my MicroSD back into the TyTNII (still as solid as it was the day I purchased it).
Any more views, I'd be hugely appreciative. Feeling rather despondent :-(
Paul.
Hi guys
Need to make a decision today ....
I'm trying to decide if all devices will end up with this issue because the raised bars on each side of the TyTNII keyboard don't exist on the TP2 ... or if the loose mech which causes the bounce only affects the 45-50% I'm seeing from the polls I've done.
This is a bit of a worry. I really want this device but having it bounce up and down every time I touch the left half of the display will drive me mad.
Sorry to ask again ... but thoughts please.
Paul.
I think i know what your talking about and on mine if i press on the very edge (not the screen on the chrome) it will flex but thats all the way around i've not noticed any issues with it "bouncing" while using it for quite a bit now.
The bounce is also on the Xperia, is cause of the keyboard.
On the TyTN II there was no bounce, cause of the mechanisem being diffrent.
Yes I also had it on several X1 units, there is always little movement in these types of designs. I would rather have the bounch than have it scrape/scuff the keyboard. I contacted HTC regarding this issue they say it is perfectly normal.
The bounce on my unit has so little movement. This little niggle is not enougth for my phone to go back. Everythhing else is perfect very happy with it
Yes ... it clearly varies a lot.
My TyTNII still has no movement at all - had it probably 2 years. I'm sure this is because of the spacer bars down the side of the keyboard.
The X1 had a little movement ... but nothing like I experience with my TP2.
You actually feel it move down and knock with every single soft touch screen press when you are over the left half of the display.
A girl in customer service at HTC is escalating this for me today. She tells me that she has had several calls from people complaining about the same issue ...
Some devices are obviously a lot looser than others.
Paul.
I have a screen problem.
All over the screen it seems that there is a very thin strip of rubber or something.
On the right hand side, just below half way it seems that this has been pushed towards the greyish thing on the outside.
And it has been pushed up a little.
So i have put my phone sideways and there is a little dink which is where it has been pushed up.
Now you can see the dust is getting in the rubber thing.
And if you just roll your finger over the edge of the screen you can feel it.
Is there anything I can do about this?
you could perhaps describe it a little better, maybe take some photos..
I can not take a photo at the moment.
http://www.navigadget.com/wp-content/postimages/2010/02/htc-desire.jpg
The image shows three phones, but the one on the right, of it showing sideways.
Imagine a bump on the black thing, where the screen is.
So instead of being flat and smooth it is not!
sounds like a manufacturing issue, little hard to suggest things you could try. Might have to be a returns mission..
Sounds like you have dropped it or more likely it was damaged in transit from China.
Get it replaced.
I know that I have not dropped it.
I have been so careful that I put it back in the box when I am charging it lol.
It is always on a clean surface.
When I get a new device I am always careful. lol
It is like a baby! I suspect a lot of you are careful too!
I have only taken it out my house once or twice and that was when I went to work!
To replace it who would I have to ring.
Sorry i am a complete noob ... I am only 18!
Just to let you guys know,
I just rang up T-Mobile and got this very helpful person who will replace my phone!
She was very helpful and it was no nonsense!
She mainly did it because of my battery life and partly due to the screen!
Hi, my Xperia play has a kinda loose back of the screen plate, the part i point in the picture with a red arrow is different feeling, like a bit loose unlike the part i point with the blue arrow.
if i press the part of the backplate pointed with the blue arrow i dont feel any movement at all, but if i touch the part pointed by the red arrow i notice it is more away meaning more detached from the back of the screen than the other and if push it i can feel it moving to the position the other is.
so mi question is, is this normal, and could it cause any problems with normal use, the phone is new, i noticed it by accident.

Anyone please
If it's relatively new, call your provider and get it replaced. Should be under warrenty.
Also check to make sure theres no broken clips.
can i tell if a clip is broken without openning the cell? i dont' think is is because it just like half cm that the side market in the red arrow is outter than the blue one, but i can push it foward unlike the blue arrow one that is still.
Heres a detailed photo of the problem, the part in the blue square is good and the part in the red square is kinda misaligned out of the frame (i can push it and it moves to the place it should be, but comes to this position when i stop pushing), could this be serious and possibly get worst or this is something that can normally happen normal can i continue using it without problems, i don't have warranty
what you guys think, looking at the last picture?
Sorry, I know this isn't going to help but, your Play looks way different to mine. Different volume and different L/R buttons. I know there are different models, but I never realised that the actually outwards facing hardware was different.

Lol.
So back on topic, please can someone tell me if i should worry of this problem or i can continue use the phone normally without concern:

Is it in warrenty?
no, do you think is something serious or i can continue using it normally?
Nobody can really tell without actually getting it into their hands. To me, from the pictures, it looks ok to use. But without actually feeling how loose it is I can't say for sure.
Personally, without a warranty, I would continue to use it but just be careful when sliding it open and closed.
If you notice anything other than the loose backplate, then it is time to get it checked out. Eg, dimmed screen, lack of responsiveness to the touch screen etc. Especially around the area where it is loose.
thanks, it's not realy loose just kinda moved half cm outwards of the frame, and it only moves if i push it down to where it is supposed to be. the other side cant be moved because its pressed against the frame, unlike this side.
Yeah, just sounds like a broken clip all right. Like what you first though. I'd say you will be fine.
Thanks.
Could be but i dont feel any broken pieces moving inside, and i havent dropped the phone and i opened from its seal brand new.
but is this is the cause, you think this could have been caused by the plastic case, it's a trident one?
also, can clips be replaced easily by yourself, or the cell have to be serviced?
No, it's more likely a clip that is actually attached to the casing. You are unlikely to hear anything as it would have fallen out long ago. They are quite small.
Eg, like the ones that hold the back of the phone in place.
I can't imagine a case would have done this. It's too.... internal, if you know what I mean. Is it possible it was like this when you bought it? It could have just been shipped badly or something. These things happen.
If it is what I think it is, then the casing itself would need to be replaced and that wouldn't be worth the money.
Thanks again
A little back story: me and my friend bough One X-es not long ago, and while i generally LOVE the phone,
both mine device and my friends (we bought it on same carrier, same store, few days difference) it had this really
uncool creaking all around when you touch the phone on certain areas (ours were specialy creaky at the bottom)
This is what people call "bad builds", "manufacturing fault" etc. It was kinda sad for device of this quality, with unibody design.
Now, i was already dealing with the fact that i have creaky one, and as much as i dident like it, i couldent be sure that replacament
wont be the same, and both of us just choose to live with it. Until yesturday. So what happends was, I dropped my phone from my table.
Pretty bad. I was already pale-faced of fear that i broke the screen, but what actually happend is that screen just popped out a bit.. you know,
like bottom part was little raised up and as i know this is actually way to open OneX i just popped it back in place and nice "click" was heard.
and quess what? The creaking was gone, completely.device never felt more solid, and i cant even get it to creak now no mather how hard i press!
Seems like certain builds are just not properly assambled, and this fall obviously just put everything back in place!
So right away i call my friend and tell him what happend, and how happy i am. What he did was he tryed to reproduce the "problem" by trying
to open up the phone like in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpBAupp8kKc . It was hard to do at the beggining but he menaged to
get it pop up a bit after some trying. he said while he was doing it phone creaked and screamed like crazy, but the moment he popped back
everything in place, ALL of the creaking instantly stopped, like in my case!
TL;DR So my conclusion. Seems like some series of builds are just like that out-of-the-box, and looks like something is not properly alligned in factory itself. Poping screen out a few milimeters and then back in place seems to fix this creaking problem.
Two important things to mention:
1. Do not pop the screen out all the way by any means i think it can void your warranty.
2. I read some phones are glued in place and you wont be able to open it anyway, so dont try to open it too hard.
if you try to pop it out just a little like we did, without actually completely opening up device there is no
way you will void your warranty, so this is safe! So, if you have creaky build-try it out, you got nothing to
lose, except your creaking problem.
I have a slight creaking sound.. but everywhere on the screen... Only if I press the screen at a certain angle the sound comes... I tried popping the casing again but the sounds still there
Not a big deal though....
Fixed my creaky upper left corner...THANKS!

Fixed
Fixed creacking on the bottom for me thanks :good:
Will fix it
but not for long
