Hey guy's wanted to know if any of you have a good suggestions for a Video converter program for our Touch Pro 2? I have a bunch of movies that I would like to convert to the best possible format for the phone. I was watching a Youtube Vid online and the guy suggested adjusting the Resolution to no more than 720 and a bit rate of no more than 1.5 for the best quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uONMuEeTo7A . I have not been able to find any programs on Demonoid as of yet that allow you to specifically customize the resolution or bit rate to that setting....just a bunch of pre-set settings.
Any help greatly appreciated!
-Scoob
i've always used Super
Super can let you specify (if you click on "more" in the res settings). Oh, and you really should avoid saying just "720" as it can be interpreted as "720p" or "1280x720". What you're talking about is 720 x XXX (can't remember the specific horizontal, especially as that depends on the specific movie)
I'm sorry guys, whats "super" ? Is that the programs name alone or is it something eles? Oh and thanks in advance if you could post a link to the program...

The maximum resolution of the Excalibur/Dash/s620/s621 is 320x240, however your resolution should be a little less since Handbrake will scale your video in such a way that it maintains the aspect ratio (and doesn't stretch out your image). Set the bitrate to, at most, about 256 KbPS. And for the love of God, don't choose to use h.264. The amount of overclocking required to get the thing to decode h.264 would likely cause your device to 'splode. Use MP3 as the audio codec, don't bother with chapter markers either.
Those settings ought to do just fine for your Dash or other similar device. And if you wanted to be really cool, you'd share the preset for anyone else using Handbrake (Its home may be on the Mac, but there's a Linux version available and a Windows version planned)
what do u mean id share the preset? i just put the dvd in the macbook and then i open handbrake. i would love to help out people by making a thread about it once i have figured it all out. but i still have to test it on my phone . im getting it in 2 weeks when my upgrade is due. i just wanna get all my stuff ready to upload.
ohhh yah and im using mpeg4 and taking out the dolby 5.1 (im guessing stereo would make the file even smaller)
Is there a better way to Play Videos on Dash
I tried alot of different movies and music videos but they don't show to good.. So I was wondering is there anyway to get movie or videos playing better on the Dash?? Is there a app or something I could use to play movies better?? I mean I tried .wmv, .avi, .3gp and none of they all played pretty lousy...
Besides TCPMP because I tried installing it and it said "Unsuccessful because it wasn't made for my phone" and I don't know if it was because I used the wrong one or what..
Thanks In Advance...

Try istalling the TCPMP/Player in my YouYube WizzStar thread, the download is located in post # 1, that one is beefed up a little and should give you very good video resolution quality. Install it too your SD card. It will work on the Dash, I know that already! Let me know how things work out for you.......!

.mp4 is the best to use to recode good quality films for dash @ 320 x 240, just keep the bitrate low, mono sound about 92kbps will keep the size down.
You can use SUPER © http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html it's free.
I use A-One FLV to AVI as i use it for YouTube but will encode any file to .mp4.
Consider using 3gp format. The quality is good and the file size is small. There are a number of 3gp converters available.
thanks
im interested in quality and speed not the mb
thanks guys

The MB will play a big factor in quality as the larger the file the harder it is for the Dash to read the ammount of data to frames.
Anyway .mp4 is the best mobile codec.
320 x 240
Lower the bitrate and keep the fps the same as original source.
Already commented on sound.
Oc'in your device will also help with playback and having a good media player on Dash?

im using windows media player
dont know other good player..

there is a much better one ?

Well don't use a frog but TCPMP will do it, you will want your vid's in .mp4 to which there is loads of software available for mobile conversion online Super © is a free one.
The trick is to keep the file size down you can do this via mono sound as the speaker on phone is mono and keep the bitrate down and also keeping the bitrate down on the video.
Hope this helps it is covered in other threadz on here.
there is an alternative , divx mobile . http://www.divx.com/mobile/requirements.php
average size when using divx converter for a full length movie is ~ 200 - 250 mb.
using it on my htc s621 , flashed with kavana's 6.1 rom .
Just done an initial test of video playback on the Desire. Used an MP4 which was encoded at 640x480 fro my iPhone, and I know the file is good. This plays back jerkily, and is not wide enough on screen.
I have tried yxflash and playback is poor.
Can the Desire play back this format smoothly, and can it adjust the aspect ratio in the player?
What are the recommended file types/sizes/encoding for the Desire?
well i think the reason it's not wide streched is because the width of the video is 480px and the width of desire too so it cannot expand to the whole wide height since the video's height is 640 and desire's is 800!! my opinionas i see it
800x480. Perhaps use the HD Encoder tool found on the Blackstone forumns here. Encodes videos perfectly for this resoultion.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
Tell us how it goes. Remember to use this from the source video, and not your already converted videos which are lower res and not widescreen
Thanks. I'll give that a go.
have you tried this yet? Any luck?
There is also DoubleTwist, which acts as an iTunes replacement. I tried this, but it is extremely slow at encoding video, although it does work, and the quality is OK.

Fantastic program. Have converted avi's and even 720p mkv files.
Results are excellent on the Desire's screen.
Highly recommended

It's a bit of a shame that video playback is pretty poor, Hero was the same. Don't know why HTC choose to do this everytime, make a fantastic device and spoil it by sticking in a inferior software.

Hi there,
I was just wondering if you use any specific settings in the program for the Desire, or do you just use the default settings? Thanks in advance!

I would use defaults. By default it's set to the correct resolution. Depends if you are converting a SD or HD, then choose from the two checkboxes to the left of the resolution. That's it. Just add the files you want to convert, choose a destination folder and go for it.
Let us know how it goes.

Link isn't broken. Although I will upload to rapid share for you in a a few mins as it's taking forever.
http://gm.mainframe.no/stuff/Encoder.rar Try that again as it works right now for me.
Thanks for that! All is good and working right now, hopefully the quality will work out! For those that haven't checked it out already, I recommend beebplayer! Works just like BBC iPlayer but also includes live TV broadcasting

I've not been able to test further yet - I on the road just now. Will be checking this out later today.

Sorry
sorry for being so dumb but could you tell me where to put the movie file once its converted ( in the phone that is ) as i tried to put it in pic,s but it never showed up on the phone after tranffer
lots of thanks
Guys - what is the easiest way to convert DVDs to watch on Desire? Is there any good free tools out there and what format/settings should be used for best pic?
I got the AnyVideoConverter, but as far as I can see it only does in 640x480 format... please advice a newbie! Thanks!
HTC Touch HD Video Convertor v1.2 allows you to covert output res of 800x480, i haven't tried it yet but I already read someone tried it and work great for HTC desire.
Is conversion necessary? Can the Desire play .vob files right out of the box or with some app? That is, unless space is a major concern...
(I don't actually know the answers to those questions, mind. Just wondering.)
I was wondering the same thing. Any links to the best software for converting?
MP4 For HD works perfect and it's really fast. You can find it here:

Anyone know if it has a DiVX compatible player? It'd be a total pain to convert all my vids...
You could always try the Videora Android Converter. I use the Videora iPod Classic Converter for my.. well, for my iPod Classic. And it works like a charm!

Doesn't appear too, was rumoured the phone would be updated to support it though.
Personally i use badaboom, GPU encoding is much better then CPU. Doesnt do 800x480 but 720x480 is good enough.
I have been using sompy movie encoder for a few years to convert movies to play on tilt and am using the same to convert on tilt2. I play them through tcpmp but quality isn't that great. I was wondering if there are different settings for the encoder to make it better?

No Just something that is better. My movies don't even use the full screen on the tilt2. I think its because im using the same converter as original tilt with smaller screen. Fixing that would be a start. Any suggestion?
i think theres a thread in here somewhere with details on the best process of converting a video for better results. but your gonna have to search lol.
Pay particular attention to my posts.

Is the following option selected in TCPMP? Options>Zoom>Fit Best.
With this selected, TCPMP should fill the screen as much as possible (without "chopping" off any of the picture) depending on the aspect ratio of the video. So you may get some letterboxing. But either the height or the width of the picture should go all the way to the edge. Select "Fill Screen" if you don't want any letterboxing (but you may have some of the picture chopped off).
